Library for high school students and medical students !!! The students of Inalco ... good luck to find a place ...

It is too quiet, perfect hours, power to work even on weekends.

There is no place on Saturday lunchtime. 3/4 of places are occupied by a kit and papers.

Pretty nice, bright, quiet, but huge problem with the connection: no wifi, must connect his computer with a cable (no adapters for mac) it's galley. Otherwise for people not wishing to connect, it's a good place.

- No regulation mechanism of the entrances and exits, result: the only solution they found is to allow people to transfer the business of those parties paused; if it happens when the person has been away for more than half an hour, for those who have been away for 5 minutes to go to the toilet, it hurts a bit ...
- A stupid openness policy: some people are there clearly for the internet connection that allows them to bet, play online; all while rolling their cigarettes, telephoning or insulting the reader who would make a remark to them because they are too noisy.
- Printers and photocopiers for 1/3 of the time in maintenance.
- Frequent flights.
- Helpers librarians, but sometimes completely overwhelmed by the anarchy that prevails in the rooms (obviously if you have the right to reserve spaces, this library suddenly becomes the best in the world).

In short, a big mess, because the fund is certainly one of the richest and most original in Europe; it is to wonder how the boat is managed to get there.

Pathetic. Great fund, good place to work, but the stupid and omnipresent French bureaucracy spoils the place. To make a few scans you have to use enormous and hyper slow scanners normally designed for art works (around 30 seconds for a page), students not based in Paris can not reserve workspaces (= no place for you) and the place is already crowded at 11am, opening at 10. It's impossible to really work here.

PS: bring your ethernet cable, because in French libraries, just like in the Soviet Union back in the '60 or something, there is no wi-fi. You have to use a cable.

the few positive points: the cafet with a nice staff, closes at 22h, vigils at the nice entrance (only those at the entrance)
NEGATIVE POINTS: Just awful vigilantes, they are not at all discreet, daring, prowling around us while staring while we work, hello concentration.
A library that is crowded, in the mezzanine as on the ground floor. Never space, more when we want to book a room librarians, who are really overloaded of course, we make a speech on the reservation of rooms by ourselves, as they had something else to do and a few clicks would be dramatic.
But to come back to the vigils, REALLY unpleasant, learn politeness it will not hurt you. Especially those dressed in red (except vigilantes women you are nice to you)
In short, I put a really low note to a library that is deteriorating on the part of the condescending and haughty staff.
I will not be back because the eagles do not fly with the pigeons. Bye.

For me it is the best library, very classy staff welcoming extraordinary times.
However, the places that is a problem if not the rest nikel. it's the only library where I can quietly review. Viva Bulac

No better library to work with very good schedules. The only fault, having to arrive at the opening to have a place

I am a researcher in oriental studies. This library was eagerly awaited by the community of "orientalists". I came at the beginning to work on the documents in my specialty language, but unfortunately I had to give up More

Bulac is one of my favorite libraries. It is well equipped and if you are researcher, you can reserve a place before coming. Only downside: it opens at 10am (but we can work until 22h).
PS: the cafeteria of INALCO is very expensive.

The place is clean, but the people are indifferent, wicked, without humanity, as dead.

Can not work comfortably in this library, so go to the BnF!

Modern and spacious place, but where freezing cold prevails. The agents are not very discreet but pleasant.

This library at the top in terms of schedules, and really meets the expectations of students.
But it is true that there is a small ik many people come sometimes occupied postsq (pc)
while many students remain standing without tables or computers.

I would also like to say that the fact that the bookings are only for the students of 4th year 5 is unfair because me who am in 2nd year why will not I have this privilege? these are the only unjust points I find in this library.

Unfortunately I went there during this Covid period so it is not possible to access it if we do not have very specific criteria.
But the interior looks really nice and good for working, too bad for me. I will come back when the covid is gone

REALLY very pleasant library I really appreciated the calm and the studious atmosphere of this place in spite of the world there !!!! There is also a cafeteria in the building and bakeries around if you have a little peckish.

It is an extraordinary library with documents that cannot be found anywhere else

A book is hidden by a reader (explanation of the librarian) ... One week, two weeks after, the book is still not found! A "reader" uses a computer station to watch pornographic movies (!) And gets caught; a week later ... He's still here! On a reservation of five documents, three are absent from the store! But what is this library? And why three quarters of the students I see in the room are students of medicine, law, math, while during this time students of Inalco are obliged to go to Paris 7 to have a decent working environment ? To avoid absolutely if you can.

Well, I change my opinion and removed two stars: the collections are as I said, superb, however, what had not bothered me the first time becomes unbearable: the lack of seats, the permanent noise that some do not discuss, instead of working, computers used wrongly and through (facebook, blah, games ...). In short, the BULAC is a superb library that would do well to select its readers!

Excellent library. It is irreplaceable for those interested in Oriental languages and literatures of the world. On the other hand, difficult to find a place when if you are not a student and you can not book. Cheap photocopies, friendly staff in general.

An impressive collection of documents, dedicated librarians and comfortable work spaces all within extended hours.
The mezzanine in winter makes it possible to work warm and the basement / garden level is cool on sunny days. Of course, we can regret the places monopolized by students who have only deposited some effects and then volatilize for hours ... especially when it comes to computer station to do research.

Best places to read and for review, you have to bring back network cables if you go connected to the Internet via your computer, Bulac borrows cables but usually they are broken or they took by other users, you can also borrow a laptop or laptop, but laptops need to come early to get one. The employees are friendly and responsive.

Taking in particular and partly the comment of Yann Avi I would say that the Bulac could be a great alternative to an Internet point, the local coffee shop (try to work when you broadcast counter briefs next to you), the dormitory. an AJ (that said, it can be a proof that we are overwhelmed by the work) or even public toilets (A urge? Access card in pocket? The toilets of the Bulac are quality) ... but do not looks only through its shelves (of excellent quality) to a library for students of Inalco. Twice I rubbed dictionaries and one or two notebooks left for two hours (two empty chairs last time) while some wandered in search of a place. Sad to see such a deviant tool as well.

Some messages similar to this one were posted a year ago. What solution has been brought? It was given to us during the visit organized for the new ones: arrive early or have your place booked by acquaintances. Distressing.

The Bulac gets the average here thanks to 5/5 of this kind: "Farm at 22h, near restaurants, train station and masjeed" ... (precaution I specify that I have nothing against the presence in my environment of a place of worship of any kind).

Very well arranged! A good source of books, sometimes a little crowded but it's nice to be there!

a shame ! This public library refuses access to French researchers with accreditation (CNRS, UNESCO). The people at the reception are contemptuously ignorant.

Everything was said. Specialized library refusing to select its readers based on their real interest in the fund. You have to go to the opening (10h) otherwise there is no place.

Researchers without a French institutional affiliation are not allowed to request books from the closed stacks ("magasin"), which, by the library's own count, hold 90% of the collection. The few works available on open shelves are arbitrarily divided between a ground-floor "reference" collection and a basement "research" collection, numbered according to an idiosyncratic schema, and presented on bookcases without internal dividers.

On the upside, BULAC claims that it has no wifi; in fact, you can connect via Eduroam, if your computer is so configured. This is helpful when you search Sudoc for another library to use.

Very pleasant working environment, you still have to find a place!

this library could be really nice if handled better ... books are often lost (stolen maybe?) and computers are available to outsiders who play online poker or chat on the net social ... I do not mean noise. pity the place is nice, well done yet

They should open at 8am or 9am addition there are not enough places in relation to demand and tired of people asking their business and are away for hours ... But it is a very convenient equipped library and well positioned

The Bulac is the ideal library for a language student ... But in reality it is a nightmare since the rich resources, a good part of which are not borrowed, do not benefit anyone: most of the work tables are squatted by students in hard science, even though they already have a library qques hundreds of meters to P7. Management remains deaf to the problem and the situation is getting worse. Soon we will be entitled to a Baubourg 2.0 with a tail of one hour before entering, and for what? to consult a reference while standing ...

The best library in Paris.
Bright, calm (move away from entrances and stairs), rich catalog, pleasant welcome and proximity to a R.U Crous at the University of Paris 7 as well as a cafeteria in the building as well.

Nobody in sight but all places are filled with notebooks. And a lot of computers are occupied by people who are using useless videos. Waste of time unheard.

I repeat most of the previous negative comments. I do not understand why this library does not better select its members, and why no regulation system is adopted. I was also very surprised to learn during my registration that for the connection on fixed computers, no identifier was requested, which is contrary to the most basic rules of security in force ...

Great library but no WiFi and very bad network. If you need the internet to work, I do not recommend. Otherwise it's great!

Being in double degree in Paris 1 and INALCO, I can only confirm the negative opinions given against the BULAC. When I have classes at INALCO and therefore need to work at BULAC on a free niche or just after classes, it is simply impossible to find a place to work with the resources I have yet need and are not in any other library.

All places are occupied by medical / eco / math / law students who reserve seats and leave for several hours thereafter.
I even saw a person playing HALO on a BU computer for several hours, or other people spending whole days on facebook!

The BULAC employees do not lift a finger and the administration ignores all these problems.
The BULAC is comfortable, it meets all the problems of any Parisian BU but much worse, since all students in Paris rush on this BU.

Clearly, do not waste your time going to BULAC, you will not be able to work on site and much of the resources can not even be borrowed.

Very welcoming, quiet, clean, great opening hours and good service. The only drawback is that there is no wifi.

It's just a BU like any other. If you want to study languages, go your way and turn to more specialized institutions. Bulac is a fair.

Library very pleasant and very quiet, unfortunately since September 2018, the fact of being able to reserve "his place" does not allow to work nice of being able to be moved at any time by other people who come at any time ...

tl; dr: good resources in languages and civilizations, arrive at the opening during the holidays to have a place, places sometimes "reserved" by people who take breaks of 3 hours, no wifi.

I love this book. I go there to learn Japanese and Korean, and they have a lot of interesting books. There are books in French / English-Korean on the ground floor and books in the original language on the floor below. It is very bright and not too noisy.

What annoys me is to see students arrive, drop 2-3 polys / books, and leave for hours and hours while other students are desperate for a place. Personally I do not hesitate to remove polys and settle if I really can not find a place, unless there are several personal things like pens, a coat, a PC etc. The staff asserts that it is not possible to reserve a place by depositing personal belongings, but the practice is so widespread.
There is no wifi, but you can borrow PCs and ethernet cables (very limited stock), there are taken at each place. There are also computers available but calm is not guaranteed: between snoring (yes yes), discussions, telephone conversations, it is not possible to focus.

The main problem of BULAC is its lack of space for INALCO students. We have a library containing all the resources that are useful for our learning but it is difficult to find a table to be able to work.
It is mostly occupied by medical students, economics ... bringing their handouts and books for review (while they could very well do it elsewhere since the BULAC does not bring the resources they need). Most of the time, these same people leave their stuff to desert an hour, reappear and disappear again ...

The administration is obviously deaf to this type of problem. In the meantime, it's the obstacle course to study quietly.

Precious library for those who are interested in extra-European civilizations. Friendly, helpful and patient staff.

Too many people, impossible to consult documents on site because all places are occupied from 10:30 / 11am by students working on their mimeographs all day ... The bulac is advertising everywhere and especially to anyone, 3/4 of the students do not have the slightest attraction for oriental languages and use it as a revision room ...
A hell for inalco students who have nowhere to work when they leave a class in the afternoon!

Nice library. Not too much noise. The cafeteria is also Cool plus the terrace.

I keep a good memory of this library, lots of documents, spacious place, nice cafeteria
