Ginger Hill Tavern Review

Working for a few weeks, this summer at SRU, I of course went to Ginger Hill.

Burgers are good but the wings are excellent.

Being Buffalo born and raised I found the wing being served whole to be a throw back to a simplier time. When wings were not on every bar menu, in the country. The folks at Ginger Hill were able to get them crispy, the only way a wing should ever be eaten. The sauce had a nice bite, without tasting like salt and vinigaar.

Nice ambience. Food was nothing special. There was hardly anybody there but we waited a long time for burger and fries.

We go to Ginger Hill at least once a month it's usually good this last time was terrible waited almost an hour for our dinner and then it was cold and the fries were soggy it'll be awhile till I go back

Don't go on Sunday with a large group with reservations ! ,slow service ! Food is decent. Beer is cold.

Worked here while attending SRU, was a customer equally often - wouldn't care if I never go back though

I think they could do better with their food. Most of the time I just visit to hang out and have a drink and it's always been pleasant, their prices are reasonable.

Absolutely horrible I ordered a shrimp salad the lettuce hard and tasted old , the wingz I ordered were so hard you could throw them threw a window it was like fried hard with some weird sauce on them what a waste of money

So much food for your money! You can sit on the patio or inside. Daily specials that are always changing but I love wing night!

Had the portebello salad with zucchini fries. There is an option to have it with organic greens for an upcharge. Was really good. Nice atmosphere with a large bar.

Horrible service. The waitress spilled ranch all over me when she give me my food. She never got me a replacement ranch. All she did was say she was sorry and got me a towel to clean the ranch off my clothes and my leg. She never tried to make it right. I still had to pay full price. My friends had a different waitress and they never put her food order in and when she did get her food it was about 30 minutes after my family got our food. All she order was a salad. The bathroom were dirty. I would not recommend eating there.

Had dinner hear while in town. yes it is a college bar and can get a bit noisy and crowded and that can be a plus or a minus depending on what you are looking for. All the staff I dealt with were good, food was fine, drinks were cheap.

Had a chef salad worst one ever found a hair in salad waitress took of 2 dollies ask for manager she said since you ate some I can only take off 275 she was the worst manager I have ever experienced I would not recommend this place terrible ! Who put these people in charge!!!!!!!!

Down Hill Ginger Hill! Stunk so bad like stale beer! Booths were filthy,dirt rings and inches of dust by windows. Food was DISGUSTING! Got check and got the HILL out of there! HILL NO!! Server was nice ....that's a positive,right!?

Local bar, decent food. Gets busy with SRU students later in the evening.

Really nice place. Stopped in for lunch. Server was super polite & personable. Burger was very good. Pub fries may be the best fries on the planet!

Decent food. Very loud inside. Fans going even in winter time makes it cold inside. College crowd.

Food was as expected for a college bar - service was a bit slow, but overall a good experience and I'll return

Rock club is good for lunch. Cajun chicken Alfredo is great.

Great place to eat! Wife had the Philly Cheese Steak with zucchini fries and said it is the best she ever had. It was cooked well but still juicy and flavorful. I had the fish sandwich and it was great! Staff was pleasant and helpful. Will gladly eat there again!

I have been to Ginger Hill Tavern many times since I both am a student at Slippery Rock University and live locally. Each time that I have been there, there is a middle aged gentleman that bartenders (if you could call him that). He is most recognizable for wearing a backwards ball cap and appears to be in good shape. But anyways, each time that I have been there I have always tipped well (at least 20%) and this bartender has repeatedly said F*** to and at me, cursing at people sitting at the bar each and every time someone orders a drink. The last experience I had there was recently during a 21st birthday party in which he said, and I quote "all of you need to buy your own F***ing drinks and quit buying for other people" (the birthday girl) also I was extremely overcharged for drinks and I basically had to yell at the top of my lungs to get his attention (because he was obviously ignoring me and several others) it eventually got to the point that several people there were asking others to buy them drinks because they felt unsafe and disrespected each time they ordered a drink. The worst part was, it was a Wednesday night and the 20 people attending the birthday party made up more than half the bar. This man without a doubt should be fired and never allowed to work behind a bar, or in a restaurant what so ever. without a doubt if I ever go back, I will not allow this man to serve me at all, and if he does I will NOT be tipping at all. On a side note this man carries himself as if he owns the place, which I pray to god that he doesn't because I know, without a doubt, if that man runs any establishment at all, it will go under.

Slippery Rock's only real bar. The food is good, and the drinks are reasonable. If you like crowded bars, go when college is in. If you want a less crowded experience go during the summer or earlier in the day.

If you're into the bar scene it's a great place to mingle. During normal hours it's good spot to eat at. It's just so crowded very uncomfortable at night

Oriented towards college students with the nearby Slippery Rock University, obviously. The food is reasonable and pretty good and the wait staff has always been attentive and courteous.

Not bad, but gets very loud. Basically a college frat house on the weekends. I prefer going here on a week night.

Once again...a huge disappointment in service. 10 minutes we sat there, and no server ever came over to take our order. So we left.

Food was pretty good. Service so bad that we wont return. Literally all the kids and families coming in after a concert and no hostess...bartender had head down on counter..waitress spilled ranch all over our table and threw me a rag to clean it up. Totally not worth it..go down the street where its much better!! Food not even worth dealing with all that.

Slow service, gross graffiti on the bathroom wall and food so bad I sent it back to the kitchen and left.

Whenever I come back home to Slippery Rock, one of the highlights is gathering with family at Ginger Hill. This past Tuesday we went there for an early Christmas celebration and as usual the food was great, the service was outstanding, and the atmosphere was joyous. I highly recommend Ginger Hill.

Decent place. Bar atmosphere, pretty noisy and wide open with loud music. The place could use some updating, and if you re looking for something upscale, this isn t it. However, the food was great, very flavorful and well presented. The services was excellent and very efficient considering how busy they were. Plenty of parking in the rear of the building. Definitely attracts a younger crowd.

Good food and regular variety of beer. Gets noisy when place fills up. More of a college student restaurant and bar.

The food leaves a lot to be desired and the drinks are a bit pricey.

Great service and amazing food specials. And karaoke is always a plus

Great atmosphere ,great service, & terrific food. Would highly recommend if you are in the Slippery Rock area.

Bartender was really nice. Had a special on yungling and twisted tea for two bucks

The only reason have it for out of five stars is because the service there was horrible. We had to ask the server behind the bar to seat us after waiting about ten minutes to be seated. After we were seated the waitress took forever to bring our drinks and continually didn't refill them during the course of the meal. The meal was fabulous. I ordered the wings there and they were really good.

I went here with my friends and my friends are so wise and handsome, and I'm from pennsylvania. I was putting the food into my body for a couple hours. So far this group is straight up thriving.

If anyone can cook a medium well steak. It is the Chef"s at Ginger Hill. Outstanding.

Good food I am not a drinker but I hear they have good beer too

Ginger hill is a staple to anyone that has attended SRU. It s a great atmosphere for people over 21 that wanna have a fun bar experience. They food is great and the drink menu is fantastic . Get a forearm smash and some rocket fries, you won t regret it!

Tried to call in to ask some questions, and got hung up on twice. Highly unappreciated. Won't try to call again that's for sure

Their Oreo cheese cake is Disgusting...i have no idea what was in the middle it was warm is Squishy foul.

Really nice little restaurant in Slippery Rock. I've been there in the past and everything was great. The last visit the service was slow, not the wait staff, but the kitchen. My salad came back and it was just iceberg lettuce. My wife had fish with mashed potatoes. The potatoes were terrible, how do you mess up mashed potatoes. I'm sure will be back again at some point, but not for awhile.

Great food especially considering it is a bar. I usually sit at the bar, Amanda is the best!

Good food and prices. Although they definitely go over maximum occupancy and it gets a little out of hand.

Wasn't really that impressed with my meal. Restrooms were a filthy, smelly mess! Service was good. Maybe I'll try it again someday for a possibly better experience?

Great local place to eat! Blue Moon and Quesadilla are fantastic!

If it weren't for the waiter it would be lucky to get a star. Very disappointed in this place.

Good food and drink, can get very crowded. It is a college hang out and may be a little bit loud. Just plan your visit a little early before the rush
