We were very disappointed with the blue cod meal and the dessert. I always dine here when on holiday and have been delighted with the food in the past hence my continued return. This time over priced and below average food.
Lovely sample of wines accompanied by a great tasting platter. A fun experience for this novice
Very disappointed to see the wines are more expensive at the property than in shops (same wine, same year, same name, same vineyard, same same).
The entry level wines are not so good, especially the ones they make you taste in their cave tour (another disappointment - a tour guided by someone that has no knowledge into winemaking).
The single vineyards and their top level wines are excellent, you will need to pay 15 to 25 dollars more if you want to have a taste.
The cheese shop is very expensive. We bought 2 cheeses and a baguette to take home and we had to pay as much as we paid for a cheese board for two in a restaurant (same amount of cheese and some extras on the restaurant board).
Perfect place to stop for some wine tasting. Fantastic wines. Grab a spot by the fire in winter to warm up or outside in the sunshine. Delicious platters available so make sure you have one of those.
Went for lunch, had the rabbit starter and lamb main, was delicious, also paired with the China terrace chardonnay and the diamond pilot noir, wife had the chicken and dark chocolate dilece also delicious
Great wine, great surroundings, great service, great food. Definitely try the duck. Best duck I've ever had.
I have been to this place twice. First time attended by a staff who did not introduce any of the selection for wine tastings. We were up there nice and early but the staff was unpacking and almost seem as if it was too busy a job to actually look after the only two customers there.
Second visit was targeted to visit their wine cave. Had to wait for 15 minutes while three of the staff were at the bar. Our presence were noted by them as they look at us and quickly glance away hoping that we would simply vanish.
I sincerely hope management can do something about this because it is not the first review stating that staff were rude, not accomodating and terrible at what they do- aka customer service. Perhaps it is because I am asian but i hope this is not the case hence i would not like to label the staff as racist just based on my two trips to the same winery within the span of five days.
The cheesery was fanstastic and customer service was excellent.
The wine board I got was really average but the place was set up well and the cheese board was excellent. Nice vibe but not sold on the wine.
This was our first stop on our self drive through Otaga. We had to pull ourselves away - we could have spent all day here. The food at their restaurant is delicious. Service was also warm and friendly. My husband had their steak and I had the cioppino - super yummy. They have a cheesery on the same lot - we had a delicious cheese board for dessert along with a glass of wine. Their wine was good as well. Their vintage rose is super unique with a layered flavor profile. Recommend!
Stopped by Gibbston for around half an hour. Didn't take the tour but did get to talk to the staff a bit and do a bit of wine tasting. $5 grants you access to 3 wines from the current season. Good tasting wines but prices were high to purchase full bottles, especially directly from the winery (eliminating the middle man - such as a liquor store)
Some of the best wines of the region. Great Pinot Noir and you have to try the Desert wine.
What a great place! We popped into the winery on our way to Queenstown and it's absolutely worth a stop! We started with getting some cheese, and then headed over for some tastings. We were lucky enough to have Emily as our tasting guide. She was very knowledgeable about the wines as well as the property and it's history. She recommended we do the bike ride and wine tasting with a meal. So the next day we did. It was an absolute highlight of our trip. I would highly recommend doing the bike ride. Meal at the end was one of the best things I have eaten.
We did the cave tour and enjoyed it. The guide was friendly. We tried the Rose, Pinot gris, reisling, and Pinot noir. The reisling was ok but the other wines were too earthy for us. The cheese shop was enjoyable though had limited selection.
We visited for lunch whilst in queenstown for our honeymoon. It was a lunch to remember, we opted for the 3 course meal with matched wines. The foor was phenomenal, and wines beautiful! Our waiter Bronson - what an absolute legend! We will definitely be back again, hopefully soon!
The rabbit lasagne was a definite favorite for me.
Great place for wine tasting and some good food. The adjacent building also offers local variety of cheeses with great service to boast. The wine tasting is excellent with small tasting options for as low as 5 NZ$. Make sure to try their Pinot Noir!
Extremely rude staff. Far better winieries down the road that welcome customers.
Very nice tasting. Although they were busy that spared time to explain the wines to see what I like and move around that. Bindy (hope I spelled the name right) was super friendly and knowledgeable. And of course, they had great wines. Recommend.
The new Gibbston Valley Lodge is just stunning! Beautiful stay amongst the vines, a wine lovers oasis. Incredible new lodge building and tastefully elegant villas. Trust the Chef he certainly knows what he is doing!
Did the wine tour which includes a peak into the wine cave where they store and age their wine. The on-site store next door has a nice selection of cheese and meats that you can purchase for a picnic on the grounds.
An excellent and informative tour. The Pinot Gris was very good.
We booked the wine, dine and tour package, great value for money. The lunch was incredible and our waitress Bindy went above and beyond allowing us to try a variety of wines to match our meals. Highly recommend.
Incredible food. Rabbit lasagna and salmon were seriously good.
A most amazing experience with the best service in the area. You do not want to miss out on the wine cave tour! Emily from Colorado rocks this tour with her passion knowledge and friendly manner. The food by Chef Anthony Gradisky is Devine, the menu is entirely holistic with every dish from the starters through the mains to the desserts being complimentary to each other. Thank you to Trish and Nick for their excellence in service, good knowledge of the dishes and their friendly manner. Oh and course the wines...magnificent! A great way to spend a day or an afternoon while visiting Central Otago.
Need to have the heating working. Very cold and staff wearing puffer jackets while they work. Need to show more effort post covid to get people in
Food was good.
Food is fantastic and the place is beautiful. Highly recommended.
Although I missed the restaurant's opening hours, the snacks at the bar are also great and it is a beautiful winery.
Absolutely fantastic experience, good service and incredible food. Would recommend to anyone.
Staff was friendly, generous tasting pours, wine was good, nice indoor and outdoor seating with good ambiance
The home made cheese plater was simple remarkable. Paired with some wines - culinary heaven I must say
It is a long-established store with a large scale that you can spend with confidence.
You can try various wines. Friendly staff available. Wine tasting is a bit expensive. If you set the time well, you can tour the winery, but there are a few price points. It is a place to buy cheese but not a manufacturing process.
Commercial machine, far behind the intimate, personal, welcoming and informative experiences you get at more boutique wineries in the region such as Mt. Rosa
Great wine tour, loved the cave. Alexios was amazing, really down to earth and answered all our questions. Had a really tasty cheese plate to finish.
Nice set up. Great wine and cheese. Pity for the work being done with heavy machinery in the car park and rude bus loads of tourists. Worth a visit though.
Love this place ssssoooo much! Recommend it to everyone! Nice food, great wine, fabulous scenery, good service, a must visit for wine lovers. First time for me to try late harvest dessert wine, and I love it so much! This affogato is great, French chips are also great, all in all, everything is great about this place, the highlight of this southern island trip for me!
Amazing restaurant, great chef and very nice setting. Strongly recommend for a couple night out.
Lovely winery with beautiful wines ! Especially the white !
The best winery I have ever visited. Very nice selection of cheese and great wine. Would definitely come back and would also recommend to my friends.
Consistently impressed with this place, we have eaten here a few times when we have been down in Queenstown and always had an excellent experience.
I was absolutely blown away by their new Lodge & Spa, above and beyond anything I could have anticipated!
Their attention to detail, the quality of the fixtures and fittings, the landscaped gardens and billowing stream make for a truely special stay.
The Spa is serene and inviting, a credit to Frances and Daiana who have created a wonderful environment and provide the most amazing massages!
disappointing experience in Gibbston today. The staff there were very very rude. First of all, they just ignored us even we were standing by the bar waiting for ten minutes. No greetings, did not even knowledge our presence. We had to ask if we can do some wine tasting. Then, during the wine tasting, she gave us a couple glasses of wine with it's own tasting notes and told us to leave the bar table to do the wine tasting by referring to tasting notes. When we asked her the reasons why we were treated differently from the other two groups there, instead of apologrizing, she ask ' oh, are u not happy with this'?
The winery is beautiful but the staff there are terribly rude and a bit racist. Out of all the wineries I have been to, this is the most disappointing and humilated experience I ever had. Rating is less than one star.
Suggest you spend your money in other wineries eg Aimsfield and Chard Farm which are juz nearly with more friendly staff.
The man who did the tour and tasting was informative and friendly. The setting to try the wine was incredible, barrels of wines lined up in a cave.
The wines themselves were very good. Ate a cheese platter at the cheesery beforehand which was yummy. There is also a restaurant if you wish to have lunch.
Recommended as a great place to visit.
Exceptional food and obviously good wine. Good 2 and 3 course options. Pricing was fair given the quality.
Lovely environment for dining and wine tasting. Staff were international and really great.
However it's not acceptable to need to wear a coat inside a restaurant or wrap up in blankets they provide. Please provide some reasonble heating or another solution.
Great wine tasting
And very nice winery
Nice staff, specially Claire (French nice lady) who guided the tour.
Friendly people all over.
But
Wine are a overpriced in my opinion, and their style is quite dry.
+100 $ for a sparkling champagne bought right at the cellar door think I can find a MOET cheaper around.
Worst off all..
Booked a tour included transport at their website. I waited 3 hours for the bus to get back to Queenstown. And the restaurant was closed 2 of the hours.....I think that could have been arranged WAYS BETTER. (It wasn t free )
I have traveled all NZ wine areas.
My advise: don t jump in to this!
Comfortable and spacious tasting bar and sitting area. Restaurant too (but we Didn't eat there). The fleet of wines we tried were all really lovely. Surprised that I enjoyed the Rose so much, as I am not a usual fan. Enjoyed my chardonnay and SB. And of course the pinot noirs were fantastic. The staff was very sweet and knew her wines.
Gibbston Valley has a cheesery and gift shop right next door. Had a quick pop into both and enjoyed a sample.or two of cheese. Yummy.
Well worth the visit.
A relatively new winery as it was made in the 1980s. There are restaurants and cheese shops here, so I think it's a good place to visit.
Central Otago is another wine region in New Zealand. Wonderful wines have been grown in this area since the 1980s. Gibbston is one of the larger wineries. Correspondingly, buses with tourists come and of course the prices went up. If you are familiar with this area, if you want to go to one of the smaller fine winegrowers, unless you want to eat, then you can do something good for yourself in the restaurant.
We visited for wine tasting and nibbles. the staff were incredibly knowledgeable, helpful and accommodating. We couldn't have asked for a better time!
It is located in beautiful place. You have Cellar, cafe, giftshop, cheesary, wine tours and also bike rentals for your here. Wine tasting varies from 5$ to 25$.
They have outdoor sitting arrangements. It's really amazing to sit out under color trees in autumn and enjoy, even the view around is beautiful
Absolutely excellent service and delicious wines! Massive shout-out to Alex who served us; she was amazing and really accommodating.
Possibly the best lunch I've had in a while.
The roast chicken made the whole meal; incredibly well made and seasoned.
Other dishes such as the pork terrine, pork cheeks, roasted vegetables, cauliflower grain and blue cod ciopinno were great as well.
But that chicken. So good.
Personally, the B95 Chardonnay was well matched, as well as the recommended pinot noir.
On July 18th we got married, and had our reception/stayed at GV Winery for the weekend. GV Winery made this experience more than we could have ever dreamed of. Kat, Trina and the rest of the GV team were incredible. Made us feel very special and were extremely accommodating and helpful. The venue is beautiful, the service was impeccable the whole time, and the Villas are luxury! The food and wine was delicious Would recommend 1000%
Cheeses, get the 4 option well worth it.
Tasting was ok (ish)
There's a lot of options here, we came for the wine cave tour but it was booked out. Seems to be every 2 hours, I recommend you book this in advance. The location, venue and environment is pretty nice. Presentation of the wine tasting was good, but it makes your experience less engaging with staff.
Excellent experience as far the Wine Tasting is concerned. Very knowledgeable presentation by Alex.
Nice tasting room.
Wines were ok
There is a cheese shop and wine cellar. It is recommended to participate in the wine cellar group. Although it is not difficult to speak English in English, you can see the largest cave wine cellar in New Zealand. The tour of the day was very clear and interesting for COCO, and recently let us drink four wines.
Known here as Pinot Noir :)
The oldest and most established winery around Queenstown. Wine Cave Tour is a tour that can not be experienced elsewhere. It is recommended.
The tasting was so tiny it was not worth bothering. I actually thought the glasses were empty when they were bought to the table. I did note the volumes of tasting varied between staff. There perhaps needs to be a standard measure. Very disappointed.
A great selection of wine plus friendly service from the staff. Highly recommend stopping in for a visit.
We did the quick $5 tasting of wine which I highly recommend because you can try a few and see which you want to buy a glass of, my favourite was the pinoy grisio here. Fantastic.
ok but the restaurant food is very overpriced for what it is. my fish/seafood stew today had more potato than fish in it, and the same with the octopus salad. wouldnt go back.
There are many tourists, and the parking space depends on luck.
Emily is very serious to explain
Arranged tour directly with the vinyard, all staff were friendly and very helpful, thank you driver Ayato and tour guide Duncan. Great experience, excellent wine and food, fantastic value for money!!
A little confusing...a lot of staff bustling about. But had a cheese tasting platter which was very minimal and a bottle of wine.
One of my favourite winery experiences in Queenstown - magical experience in the wine cave for tasting. The cheesery had good cheese picnic options which you can taste and the chocolate and gift shop, restaurant is limited in menu but great food and way to experience some extra wine after tastings :)
Get it delivered to Sydney every few months and it's worth it!!
I m not really the right person to write a review of a winery and a wine tasting because I know very little about wines. However we did visit this winery and did some tasting and it was a fun experience. It was very pleasant to sit down inside and in the grounds and they have a lot of experienced folks to help you understand and make choices
We stopped by for a quick lunch. Great seating options at the restaurant, this time we were seated outside. The waitress and hostess was lovely and attentive.
We ordered the wild rabbit lasagne, the portion size was a bit small and it was a bit dry for my liking, still quite good.
Scotch fillet was very good, it had a nice charcoal smell/taste to it which you won't find very often in NZ restaurants. I really enjoyed it.
They of course had a large wine selection and we had the 2017 GV Pinot Noir. Perfecto!
Some of my favourite wines during a day of wine tasting in the area. However we almost didn't stay as we were greeted by a shockingly rude french manager. Luckily, we had a young American lady, Emily, do our Wine Cave Tour which really turned the experience around. Great knowledge of the wines and her tour easily made this the most enjoyable stop of the day.
Exceptional food. The flavour from the confit duck with red kumara, chargrilled spring onion and Pinot jus and the baby onion tart blew us away. Wish we lived closer. And Pia - legend!
Not a wine drinker but a day out at this little place made a very welcome change. We tasted wines while there and were introduced to a number of lovely wines we'd never had. Would reccommend to anyone be they wine drinkers or no.
Way overpriced wine tasting offering, dished up by half baked service. Much better options down the trail at the other wineries.
Attended concerts here for the past 5 years and they are absolutely fantastic! Great venue with gorgeous scenery.
We had a lovely experience here. We came in for a wine tasting and then wandered across the courtyard to the cheesery. Both were excellent!
Thoroughly enjoyed a Harvest Platter and a glass of Pinot Noir with my daughter. The food was so tasty. The staff were really efficient and helpful. Nice and light interior.
Came in with a group of 20 for my birthday lunch and had the most fabulous experience. All the staff are incredible and made the day so special. Food and wine was delicious. We did a cave tour and the tasting was very interesting. Will recommend!
Great wines and well looked after.
Problem was delivery of our order. Ten days later it still hadn't arrived so emailed them. Got given an excuse about somebody going on leave. Guys- if you've failed to despatch an order after 10 days, what you have is a system problem, not a people problem. If in fact you do have a people problem, it's the people who blame other people for a system problem.
Such a quality location. Great staff and great food.
Amazing wine to be tasted in a lovely relaxing atmosphere.
We waited at the counter for ten minutes and were totally ignored by the staff. Dont come here. Go somewhere else, where your custom will be appreciated.
Overpriced, bad service and food just ok. Crowed and not great atmosphere.. They overprice for everything. If the quality was outstanding I wouldn t mind, but for the quality it is not worth. 35 NZ for a very small portion of vegetarian gnocchi it is just too much. Wine was great though.
