More fame than flavor. The chocolates of this fact...
More fame than flavor. The chocolates of this factory are delicious, however in your store there are not many options.

The icecream was good but not the best I have had icecreams much better than this place! I think it was a little overrated. Next time if I try sundaes then my opinion might change!!
Definitely a good place to visit if your from outta town. Good chocolate obviously, but cool scenery outside and the legendary lit up Ghirardelli sign on top.
It was recommended to us as a must-taste but I didn't find it worth to pay this price, as everything in SF. Just a regular very sweet chocolate.
The ice cream was amazing. Terrific treat to end the day
Store was smaller than I recalled and only 1 cashier available.
I have been fortunate enough to go to many Ghirardelli Shops throughout California which there are many, Florida, Chicago, Texas, Nevada and even Kentucky believe it or not. So needless to say I m a chocoholic through and through, not to mention my sweet tooth .
So, I was blown away when the worker at the register told me that for any and every Sundae you order you can only order VANILLA! No offense to anyone that are just vanilla fans out there. But vanilla to me is just too vanilla, which is why that saying exists. So, I requested the Ocean Beach Sea Salt Caramel Sundae with Espresso Chip Ice Cream and the employee at the register that day 07/22/2020 at approximately 1:00PM still said that it s not an option. If I wanted anything other than vanilla I d have to order it additional to the sundae and it d be on the side.
As I mentioned before I have been throughout numerous locations nationwide and I have never ordered any sundae with vanilla ice cream. And I ask him, are you kidding me?! I m attempting not to be too rude and ask, is it too complicated to scoop anything other than vanilla ice cream because there s no labels or anything on their end and he said that s how it is for every location and is policy.
So hopefully one of the managing staff there can set the record straight for the that employee or know that there hasn t been a single employee until now that s enforced that rule. Either way, I d like to hear from someone in the staff and if I am in the wrong, then I will gladly change my star review. But if this employee was just too lazy or something, people like myself, they re losing business. But I knew what I wanted and was determined to get it, lol.
So, I simply went upstairs to their West location that s open in Ghirardelli Square and at the register asked for the same thing I did with the brain washed employee and they did as every location nationwide has done, make a great sundae without argument or so called strict VANILLA ONLY rules, which I think is BS. That location the staff was swift, kind and to the point.
Not sure which location it is in the address but it s the one downstairs that had poor service and the one upstairs that had great service.
Paradise for a chocolate lover. Good place to buy chocolate souvenirs to take back home.
tbh a little boring and overpriced.
There's so many wonderful chocolate stores in SF, check out small businesses, too
We try to stop every time we re in town. Great staff and awesome selection. Such a fun treat to take with you as you walk down to the piers or take a trolley ride.
Ah... amazing, and beautiful...the square is filled with beautiful sites, restaurants and the chocolate shop. Great place to buy gifts and hang out during the day and the evening...good place to hang out during the holidays ...has a huge Christmas tree
Yummy. So cool seeing how the chocolate is made. Everything is delicious.
If you are a chocolate lover then this is your store
This place on the Ghirardelli Square is very good place to spent time.
Things to do there:

- Eat Ghirardelli special ice-creams
- Buy Ghirardelli related soft toys and mementos
- Play ping pong(Table tennis)

- Do shopping

Best Hot Chocolate! And even better Frozen Hot Chocolate!
Had a delicious time choosing chocolate and enjoyed a sundae Amy was extremely helpful answering questions and ringing us up!
Very yummy ice cream and chocolate, but not worth waiting in line! We went earlier in the morning when they first opened, dessert for breakfast. Of course it's San Francisco so there's was a homeless person screaming at us while we trying to eat so we left the patio and walked along the boardwalk.
Historical chocolate place and really enjoyable chocolate
Very nice and tried the world famous sundae as well.
Pricey for what you get, but nonetheless very good.
Chocolate everywhere you look and in everything you eat and drink.
Very few eggless options. Their staff didn't have ingredients list for their menu items....
Nothing special about their ice creams. Decadent hot chocolate was ok, too sweet for being dark chocolate and most importantly lacks chocolate flavor.
I was here not too long ago. The chocolate was amazing, but even better was the giant sundae split the chocolate sauce was poured over. OMG! It's definitely an indulgence but once in a blue moon is OK with me!
I tried their treasure Island and it is delicious. Definitely a must have while in San Fran
A must visit place in San Francisco. Best time to visit will be late afternoon or before the sunset and enjoying the sunset.
Long line, high prices, and the drinks are almost too rich to finish. But it's still worth a look around. You can see the machinery they use to make the chocolate.
This is a must stop if you are visiting Fishermen's Wharf. The line moves fast. There are plenty of seats inside. Enjoy the best hot fudge sundae that you ever tasted.
It's really a treat for kids and old kids!!
It was the appearance of a well-organized cafe without the feeling of a factory.
Their chocolates are one of the best chocolates I've ever eaten.
A few minutes walk from the end of the cable car.
Ice cream and cones cost over 1000 yen for 2 scoops, and the sweetness was so strong that I didn't bother to take the time. There are many delicious ice cream shops in Japan, and it wasn't necessary to come here because of the itinerary that doesn't have much time. I was just excited to see this stylish site.
The Hot Fudge Sundae was great, although the fudge wasn't very hot by the time I got it.
An entire city block of historic desserts!
Raspberry chocolates...
Always came here, as a child. I'm a aholic! They have the best chocolate, in the World. They're pricey, yet so worth it. They've been open a very long time. The employees are real helpful, as well. Lets not forget to mention, how darn good it smells inside omg! Wish they made perfume, that smelled like Ghirardelli Chocolate. I love this place, plan on visiting again in 2018 and I can't wait.
Sundae was delicious although WAY over priced. Staff was totally useless and not at all friendly. Find new people as that group today was terrible! Good luck. Thanks,
55 minutes and had to ask for a refund. Never received my order and never was able to get a seat.
Who doesnt love Ghirardelli Chocolate? Awesome historical sqaure!
Always known for the best chocolate and of course it does not disappoint. Be ready however, there is always a wait/line to get in.
Great ice cream desserts - just need to bus tables a little quicker during busy days..which is always.
It s a good place to take a hot chocolate and buy some souvenir. They give chocolate to taste. It s beautiful with a different architecture and there is a brewery there.
This chocolate shop is really nice! Good for buying gifts especially for this upcoming christmas
If you are visiting SF you absolutely need to check out Ghirardelli Square! The square contains some lovely shops with unique items. The highlight of this experience is, of course, the ice cream creations at the restaurant. My personal favorites are the "painted lady milkshakes". This is a delicious diversion that is great for the whole family!
This is one of the last good reasons to go to San Francisco (Boudin Bakery is the other). San Franciscans are very biased and nasty to tourists, visitors etc. who do not look, act and vote exactly like them. In other words, if you don't have long hair, aren't homeless and have ever voted for a Republican, you'll be hated here. Well, not in the chocolate shop--and yes, it's the best chocolate in North America.
So don't make Frisco your destination, but just a stopping point on your way to someplace better (which is just about anywhere in California) and stop off for some chocolate, then stop by Fisherman's Wharf for the best sourdough bread in the world. It's a shame you have to stop at all in America's rudest city, but what can you do if you love chocolate and sourdough?
Oh, and FYI... be sure to refer to the city as "Frisco" whenever dealing with locals. They just love it when tourists call it "Frisco." Trust me; I wouldn't screw with you.
Overhyped place. Not service friendly. We have to wait 50 min for our order and come 2 times to the waiters to remind them about our order. Overpriced.
Pretty nice. They had some old boats on display on the water front
Service is way too slow. 45 min wait for ice cream on a Saturday / 4pm. Unless they can figure out a way to speed it up, find another place to go or budget an hour
Took my date to this place and waited nearly an hour for a sundae. Even brownies take less than an hour to bake from scratch.
I asked a server if she could check when our order was coming out, which she ignored several times and later told me to talk to the manager if we had a problem because "it's not her business to check late orders". She even tried to take away my number card on the table for the order. Even other customers sitting next to us seemed surprised by her behavior.
Thanks for ruining my date. Five stars for those who like rude servers, get embarassed, want to ruin your date or break up in a fashion.
Very crowded, all the time. But it was worth it to go see the chocolate shop.
The famous chocolate shop, the crowds are crowded, the ice cream is the traditional American ice cream is sweet and big, the chocolate is sweet enough, but the finished product will be very satisfying.
We went on a rainy Saturday, and it wasn't very busy. The Treasure Island Sundae is godly. The hot fudge is awesome, and the fudgy brownie is the best! Chocolate milk was subpar (regular store bought is better), but you're probably not going for the chocolate milk ;-)
Super touristy shop with a huge range of all your favorite chocolate. Ice cream shop and other shops to visit on the square.
If you want like chocolate, icecream, milk shakes, this is the place. Has 2-3 ghirardelli shops. All of them are crowded on weekends. Finding parking nearby is difficult and expensive. Taking the cable car on a non holiday wekeend would be a better choice.
