A very nice and child friendly historic site. My kids were so excited about the idea of a military fort and they enacted scenes from movies and pretended to be archers by the windows upstairs.

The rooftop gives an amazing view of the sea and a nice spot for pics with the citadels in the background.

I did not like the fact that there was this amin shorta who followed me and the kids soliciting his "services" as a "tourist guide"! I'm historian of Egyptian history and surely i know what this place is all about and don't need his help. He was just too clingy and i gave him 20 pounds to get rid of him.

Also, some guys were harassing foreigners by talking to them and also offering help providing information.

I would recommend the place for friends.

Very good place to visit , you can see stone construction of the castle and of course the air wells in the castle , not mentioning the good scenery and nice places to take pictures, you can enjoy the old historical type of construction together with the well naturally air conditioned castle, there is a discount for student, so if you are a student don't waste the chance, its worthy to visit.

A Historical citadel , with an important role in the defence in crusades , a nice complex with amazing structure considering the era it was built in . The ticket is around 2 USDs ,it worth a visit .

This fortress was established by Sultan Al-Ashraf Abu Al-Nasr Qaitbay Al-Mahmoudi, who is the forty-first Turkish king in Egypt and the fifteenth of the Circassian kings, and he graduated in jobs until he reached the Sultanate in the year 872 AH / 1467 CE and he died in the year 901 AH / 1495 CE. Quite nice. Entrance is from the side. You'll get kicked out about half an hour before the place closes so come earlier.
It's really cool actually and you can learn about the history of the lighthouse before it in the local museum.
My only issue was that some of the rooms inside were clearly being used as toilets from the smell of piss and the wetness of the floor. Quite disgusting.

Historically the Citadel of Qaitbay was built by the Sultan of the Mamluk dynasty, namely Sultan Al Ashraf An Nashr Syaifudin Qaitbay in 1423 AD (872-901H). He was tasked by Sultan Jaqmaq to serve as head of the military, until when the Sultan died Qaitbay was appointed to replace him.

And one of Qaitbay's relics is its fortress in Alexandria. The fort is a creamy whitish color, gracefully standing on the edge of the Mediterranean sea.

The place is bad and the work on the site is crowded. There are no services and the lights around the castle disappear and the street vendors are active.

A historic place with an excellent location and next to it is the Museum of Aquatic Biology and the Maritime Museum
