The hotel was wonderful! The room was rustic and basic, but the wrap around terrace and restaurant were amazing. In these days of the corona virus, the deck had individual tables spaced far apart with a view of the lake. Many tables had fire pits in the center, and extra heaters were available to make this a perfect and safe dinner spot for a cool late summer or fall night.

We were happy with our three-night stay at Gateway Inn. We bought the Groupon on a whim so it was an incredible deal. They don't have a restaurant anymore but they do provide good-sized mini fridges so we could buy breakfast things and store leftovers. Beds were very comfortable - soft but we like soft. The balcony was very nice and the bear/cabin/wild west decorations great with our kids. I think their housekeeper is a little inconsistent, but for $80 a night we weren't expecting perfection. Gateway is on the west side of Rocky Mountain National Park and I think we'll try staying on the east side next time when our kids are older. The less intense trails on this side were great for hiking with young children in backpacks.

Beautiful, large comfy rooms! Nice restaurant, bar with lovely views. Staff are friendly and very helpful. Biggest drawback is that the walls are paper thin and having a bar on site leads to loud patrons. Bring a white noise machine if you want sleep.

This is the best place to stay in Grand Lake, but it does not mean it is 5-star quality. Has a great bar which is a local hangout it seems. Happy hours starts at 3 pm. The restaurant downstairs has some good food. The couple next to us asked for their red wine to be served in the appropriate glass. That should have been automatic from the staff(white wine glass). The bed in the room needs some work. You can not place a pillow against the wall without it falling through the backside. So if you want to sit up with a pillow behind you your out of luck. Hardwood floors. I had just been on an all-day hike and wanted to stretch, but no rugs anywhere. Hardwood floors need a rug or two. Nice shower and bathroom. All that being said, this is the only place I now stay at in Grand Lake after many bad experiences elsewhere.

A very nice place to stay in Grand Lake. Nice large room with fireplace and comfortable seating. Cozy cabin feel with hard wood floors, cabin decor, and a comfortable bed and bedding. Very friendly staff in the office and the restaurant. Buffet breakfast was good and more than enough to get you through the day of outdoor activities. Minor maintenance concerns, but easily addressed. We'll visit again.

Great place to stay in Colorado. Very friendly staff and very tasty food and drinks. The town is right around the corner and so is the lake. The view was amazing every day I was there.

Good place. Loved the breakfast, it had pancakes, biscuits and gravy, eggs, and more. Hot tub was very nice. Bed was comfy. Only negitive was that they were doing some construction and it was a bit noisy. Reserve online on Groupon to save a bit of money.

Over rated. 3 out of 5 stars are appropriate. The beds had an odor as if not washed in a few days. Was suspicious when reading a sign asking to please reuse the towels to save money and resources. The smell wasn't from the bed sheets but the main blanket comforter. Don't waste your time or get hyped on the free continental breakfast, very small selections to choose from. Nothing warm to eat except the toast from the toaster.
Overall, the price of this place is too high and not worth it. Price should be no higher than 90 for the stay.

Really enjoyed our stay. The room was cozy and clean. Felt like we were staying in a cabin. We sat out on the deck & enjoyed a drink and dessert. The staff was nice and attentive even though they were short handed. We will stay again when we are back in the area.

Very nice rooms, friendly, helpful staff and super clean. Comfortable bed, fire place, fantastic view. We were able to do every possible winter activity and come back to the Gateway Inn to soak in the jacuzzi.
We really enjoyed our stay & we'll be back.
Couldn't ask for a more beautiful week.
Thank you! Maralyn & Dennis

What a treat to find this place! The wifi actually works in this hotel and it feels like a cozy cabin. The beds were like a cloud and dreaming was easy and sweet. Perfectly clean and tidy. A minifridge, fireplace, tv, table & chairs, coffee maker, hamper, closet, are standard. Lots of fresh towels and soaps for the bathroom and a hairdryer. We did not try the bar out as there are such great restaurants nearby however. It's so close to town, any able bodied person can easily walk to the nearby restaurants, beach, or hiking trails.

Like the town of Grand Lake itself, The Gateway Inn is a strange conglomeration and, at times, head scratching.

Our room was spacious, new, and very clean with plenty of outlets and a large HDTV. Shower was great. Mattress was comfortable, too. Staff was friendly and extremely accommodating. We arrived hours early and they bent over backward to let us check in. Lounge area is great with a very nice bar and good food. Prices for food and drink are very competitive.

Now for the other side of the conglomeration. The rooms have a "cabin" vibe with furniture made from pieces of wood straight from the trees (i.e. not cut into finished wood.) It's attractive, but not really ideal...especially paired with the other elements in the room. For example, the headboards are not solid and they've chosen to use tiny square pillows. Because the pillows are small and the gap between the wood in the headboard is large, every night was an exercise in retrieving the pillows from the floor behind the bed.

The bathroom is very attractive with excellent shower and other fixtures. They chose to use a sliding "barn door" for the bathroom instead of a conventional door. Again, it's attractive and it does provide visual privacy. However, the decision to use hardwood/laminate floors and the gaps between the closed bathroom door and the wall means there is ZERO sound privacy. In fact, I think it may have been louder outside the bathroom than inside. Also, the coffee maker is inside the bathroom. Not a deal breaker, but the smell of coffee mingled with...other odors...is not enticing.

The restaurant downstairs (we did not eat there) is, by all accounts, excellent. We also did not have breakfast there as it did not start serving until well after we were out hiking. We did attempt to go to the coffee bar, but they were not open at 6:30 as we had been told they would be.

I've spent a lot more time talking about what is odd or inconvenient about Gateway, but please don't mistake this for dissatisfaction. If we travel again to Grand Lake, we would not hesitate to stay there again. It's clean, friendly, well appointed, and well located. It's just a strange mix of elements. It has personality...that's probably the best way to say it.

An amazing clean beautiful and peaceful experience. We came for a. Relaxing trip and that's what we got. I wouldn't change a thing. The owner is always present and takes pride in the property

Staffs are very friendly and helpful. Rooms are big, but the brown comforters are dust and dirty, seems haven't been washed for a long time. Although on their website they claim they do free upgrade when it is available, upon check in they said they charge more for the rooms with balcony. Rooms don't come with microwave.

We came in to watch the band and it took 45 minutes to get our drinks. I wouldn't have written a bad review over just that but on top of it the manager was screaming at a customer and he physically shoved the guy out the door for trying to order a beer at the bar. I won't go back there again.

We ate dinner at the OA Bistro, which is in this hotel. After a terrible dinner, involving mice, I complained to the restaurant manager. When she expressed no concern, I then took the issue to the hotel night manager. She also said that the mice/vole's are a problem, but they can't do anything about it. She also asked that I don't leave a bad review. Here is my warning for your own safety, avoid the OA Bistro and Gateway inn.

Fun atmosphere! Great restaurants in the hotel. For dinner we ate at the bar and enjoyed complementary smores with an awesome mountain view! Enjoyed the breakfast resturant with awesome burritos and personal service! Weather wasnt great during our stay but the hotel made it a pleasant trip. Make sure you visit the mountains during the late spring summer! It was hard to find things open surrounding the inn.

We were only here one night on our way to and thru RMNP, and I wish we could have stayed longer. The property is very cool, with a log lodge look and feel. And the rooms were equally well appointed. Some rooms have balconies over looking the lake, and there are plenty of local activities to keep busy for a long time (we just were not here for that), including bike rental on-site in the hotel. The number one thing we liked wasn't from the hotel, but it's worth mentioning...that wonderful outdoor pine smell. The freshness simply cannot be replicated and just puts a smile on your face.

Gave them five stars last year but I think they must have replaced the mattresses. They were way too firm in our room. After a long day of snowmobiling, the beds were just uncomfortable and we tossed and turned both nights we were there. Other than that, the hotel itself was fabulous. The view from our room was awesome and the fireplace kept the space nice and toasty.

We had a great time at Gateway Inn for our anniversary trip. The staff was very friendly and went above and beyond by leaving us a anniversary note and treats in our room, and upgrading us to their best room because it was our anniversary.

I booked my room over the phone with Robyn. She was so nice and accommodating. Robyn also made sure to reserve the nicest room in the hotel. It had a balcony overlooking the grand lake and a fireplace. When we arrived, the smoke from wildfires affected the area and we had to leave, Robyn was really understanding and we got the full refund for the remaining nights. We are definitely coming back to that place! Highly recommended! I wish we didn t have to cut our trip short...

Overall we enjoyed our stay at the Gateway Inn. The room was cute and decorated nicely. It felt very much like a log cabin. The hotel has spectacular views, but unfortunately our room faced the back with the parking lot. We couldn't open the window since we were on the first floor and we had absolutely no view. The website boasts free upgrades - to just ask, so we did. It was my husband's birthday so I was hoping they would help. Nope. Middle of "mud season" and more than half empty parking lot, and they were "full"... We weren't discouraged, we make the best of everything. The fireplace was nice and cozy but it heated the room TOO well. We ended up with the AC on to counteract the fireplace which cannot be turned off completely and always gives off heat. The mattress seemed nice but ended up caving in the middle each night, we did not sleep well between that and very early diesel trucks running in the parking lot, directly outside our window! ALL balcony rooms are on the side with the views. We definitely recommend you request a balcony room to ensure you end up on the right side!

I was only in the bar area...it was a great place to have our holiday get together staff was pleasant and awesome...the pizza was good but expensive (to me). 4 stars because I didn't use any other part of the complex.

This is the perfect place to stay in Grand Lake! From beautiful rustic rooms, great friendly service and outdoor dining with incredible views make it an instant "vacation". Whether it's one day or a week you owe it to yourself to check this place out! Try for a room with a balcony, the mountain air and views make it like "clamping" , my style for sure!

Beware may not get a room and will still be charged!! I booked a room for our family vacation. The reservation went through and the hotel charged me for the room. However, I did not receive an email confirmation. I found this odd so a few days later I called to confirm the confirmation. They told me I did not have a reservation. I gave them the confirmation number and they told me it was for the day I booked it. Also claimed they had tried to call that day but "all circuits were busy". I received no call. They refused to transfer my reservation as I had prevented the room from being resold. This is also not true as this was in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic and hotel is not close to full. I think the hotel may be hurting due to the pandemic and the services you receive may not be anywhere close what this place used to be.

Nice cozy hotel. It has a nice bar area and great breakfast in the morning. Has a great outdoor hot tub. Very friendly staff. The only downfall I has was no ice machine, but there are mini fridges in the rooms.

We spent 4 days at the Gateway Inn and absolutely loved it. Everyone was friendly and accommodating. There is a lounge with a bar, games, fireplace, tv, couch & comfy chairs. They bartender was super friendly, I believe her name was Nelly. More

The Gateway Inn was an excellent overnight choice for my mom and I on our ski trip. There's a fantastic bar with expansive views of Grand Lake, and a lovely restaurant in the basement offering scrumptious breakfast options - I believe they are open for lunch and dinner as well. Our hotel room was simply nice and clean. We were thankful to be on the 2nd floor since the room was facing the busy parking lot.

Smelled very dirty in lobby and smelled musty in room as well, trash left by previous guests, very hard mattress with plastic mattress cover that was loud all night. Could hear bar guests in my room. Also, a drunk person invaded my personal space when I first walked in. I dont like to be touched by drunk strangers. Wont stay here again.

Its an okay place to stay. Not much to do. Hot tub/gym are too small. Bar is good and has accessible patio. Rooms are good but dont have central A/C so in summer it gets really hot. Friendly staff. Overall 3/5

Mixed feelings.

Mixed feelings.

The good: It's a nice lodge complete with log beams, stuffed animals, fireplaces, and a lounge. Antiques are placed hear and there. It looks cool. The rooms have log furniture. The best part is the views from the room balconies. Some rooms only have a view of the parking lot, but for just few $ more, you'll get a room with a mountain or lake view. I thought the view was worth the few extra bucks. Both the mountain or lake views overlook the town of Grand Lake. The rooms are spacious. Elevator access to the second floor was nice.

The bad: While it's a nice lodge, it's a newer construction with a few corners cut hear and there. Some parts appear to be assembled with simulated log panels like those in a small log cabin kit. While the place has potential, the decor is minimal leaving a lot of bare spaces. This lodge is not within walking distance of all the downtown shops and restaurants. Technically, it is walkable, but it's a good little piece.

The mediocre: The lodge houses a restaurant and bar that is open to those staying at the lodge and those not. When my whole family visited, I felt the check-in was a little cold. There was a group of "regulars" in the bar area (lodge employees included) that was in open view of the area to enter and exit the lodge. Whenever I was coming or going, the talking would quiet down and I felt as if I was being watched... to see what I was doing or where I was going. This was not a *scary* feeling, but more of a "are those people talking about me?"-feeling. I may be totally wrong about it... it was just a feeling.

In the end, the place was just okay for me. I'd like to visit Grand Lake again, but there are many other places I might try before this one again.

Fabulous accommodations and paralled scenery. The bar/restaurant ended up being a great respite after a long day in Rocky mountain national park. Just a stone's throw away, this town and hotel are sure to please. Would stay here again if in town.

Unfortunately at the moment construction site and much noise. Could be revised. Furnishing with lots of natural wood, beds too high for me. At night noise from old air conditioners, the bathroom and the toilet have vibrated. Have received a credit. Very friendly. When construction work is completed, a nice stay will surely be a given. Wi-Fi and parking as well as coffee free. The place is very cozy ..

Super cute and quaint little inn right at the edge of the Grand Lake town. You can walk to the town area with shops/restaurants in about ten minutes - so even though it's not in the center of town, it's still plenty walkable. The tavern upstairs is a great place to grab a drink or a snack and hang out. The fireplaces and smores kits are super fun! Everyone was very friendly and helpful!

One star off only because my husband and I reserved a mountain view king room with a balcony for our anniversary and ended up not being able to use our balcony at all because the vent for the grease trap for the fine dining restaurant downstairs was *right next to* our balcony (see photos). It wasn't the end of the world or anything, just wasn't a smell conducive to sitting outside on the balcony. This was kind of a bummer because we reserved a balcony room and brought a couple nice bottles of wine thinking it would be nice to just relax on the balcony with a drink. Other than that though, everything was great, the room was cute and super spacious.

Would definitely recommend, just if you reserve a mountain view king room with a balcony make sure you DO NOT get room 103.

I just stayed at the Gateway Inn again. I stayed there about 5 years ago, just expecting a hotel room and really enjoyed my stay. I ve been there 4 times since, once with my wife and three kids and other times with friends. Everybody I ve been with loves it.

Things I like:

Pretty much in Grand Lake, but overlooking it with a view of the mountains and the lake from the main room, the big deck outside that room as well. I call it a lobby, but it is a big area with high ceilings, a bar, some games, windows with views and a nice fireplace. It s very comfortable to be in, with friends or with my kids (although i usually only see children occasionally) When we go out to dinner and do something in town I often just look forward to getting back to the inn and be with people there, hang out, watch TV, play the sliding puck game, board games, read, etc

The rooms are nice. Clean, things seem new and clean, and the beds very comfortable. It always seems quiet. The furniture is new but is made out of debarked tree limbs and logs, very cool. The ceilings are high, ventilation is good and the water was warm and stayed warm.

The decorations and furnishings around the Inn are interesting and add alot. They lock it up at about 10 but it s easy to get in with your key. It feels pretty secure.

Downstairs they have a conference room, very nice facility, they have a very clean outdoor whirlpool, big enough for 6-8 people, with awesome views. They have a sauna and an exercise room, very clean though I didn t use them - planned to but just didn t have time. The bar is great and they have some food, but it s pretty basic though good quality. Usually stay about 2-3 nights.

I haven t stayed in the rooms with a view, they re a bit more and I m usually not in my room that much.

I m giving it 5 stars, which will be a first for me. Not because it was perfect in every way, but it was perfectly balanced: clean rooms, good sleep, good price, great time, fast free wifi, etc. and the can t wait to stay there again factor.

Staff was super friendly. Room was nice and cozy with a hand written note welcoming us. The bar is cozy with very cheap drink prices and a pretty amazing happy hour. The views from their deck are to die for. We can't wait to come back and stay in the summer
