This museum was really cool. I loved the Power of Pictures exhibit. It explored the relationship between art and politics, revisiting a point in history when artists were a primary engine of social change.
Unfortunately that was the only exhibit open (as of May 8th), but tickets were half off. Also, anyone 18 years and under is completely free!
Beautiful old post office building and well appointed museum.
The current exhibit was infornative, broad, very well done, and engageing.Employees equally engageing, and curteous. The gift shop was stocked well,we found at lease six bargins.Enjoyed the French theme and all was very helpful and friendly.I am from Washington D.C.,and felt the same great effort to bring about the Fench Collection...Merci Bocoup..
Beautiful museum with a lovely cafe and gift shop. The museum offers a retrospective of a highlighted artist so you really get to appreciate and learn about the artist and their work. If you are looking for a place to see a wide variety of artists, this is not that kind of museum. There is discounted parking so learn about someone new, enjoy a meal or snack and plan to have a great afternoon.
Wonderful museum. The exhibits (3 right now plus a great local photo exhibit in he hall on gentrification) are wonderful, the building is beautiful too, and the cafe has great sandwiches and cakes and of course fruit tea. You can sit outside or in and have wine or beer too. There was a live guitarist relaxing (sort of classical) music 6-8pm. I asked for a parking discount which saved a lot of money on parking. The hands on art room is amazing and great for all ages. There were at least 6 very nice art activities in the room. I highly recommend this museum!
Really had a great time. And super cool building next time taking the tour of the building
The Frida Kahlo exhibit was so unbelievably beautiful. I was moved to tears multiple times. Also, an amazing exhibit of surrealism on display. The gift shop had some really neat stuff as well.
I learned a lot by reading the placards of the Mellon Art Collection and Lange photographs as well as enjoyed stsudying the pictures. They are classic expressions of their times and the people themselves.
Beautiful old Post Office, now in Art Deco form. We went for the Italian Cars exhibit - very cool!
I have been coming here regularly for all of the years of my life. I enjoy the facility and all of the exhibits I have encountered.
Everyone working here are super kind and helpful. Very clean smelling and decent art. Be sure to check site for who's showing
Fantastic exhibits in a gorgeous building. My only complaint is that I wish they would've run the a/c a little harder. I was toasty inside
The Kahlo-Rivera exhibit is much more than the two of them. It really is focused on Mexican Modernism. Not a fan of Surrealism, bit there were some nice pieces by Miro and a coll Giacometti. The building alone is worth the visit.
Lovingly curated, always changing exhibitions. The Art Zone on the second floor is fantastic for kids!
Van Gogh, Monet, Degas before they got out of town...it as afternoon delight.
Great place for family fun. They had a great lower floor exhibit (Samaria). Upper floor is great for kids to run off energy and do educational activities. Very nice staff and experience. Worth the price.
Historic building housing beautifully curated collections of art spanning centuries, countries and genres.
This is a small, but thoughtfully curated Museum. When we went, they were showcasing native American women artists. I've lost at least two hours if you really enjoy reading different aspects of the artwork. Small, fun gift shop.
This is a small gem of an art museum. From what I gather, there is no permanent collection, but the three traveling exhibitions there when I visited were delightful. The light is good, the layout is fine and the staff are all very friendly.
Great indigenous art display. The Hungry Caterpillar was amusing for those who remember this book. Park in the lot for the museum or on the street for reasonable parking fees.
Kids and myself laguhed at the nick cave exhibits don't go!
Always fascinating exhibitions displayed. Very relaxing atmosphere in a beautiful building. Not expensive to get in.
I have been there many times to see a variety of shows. Recently just saw one featuring Van Gogh, Renoir, Monet, and others. Some of my favorite shows they have featured were Chihuly paintings and blown glass and vintage Italian couture fashion.
A Nashville gem. The Dorothea Lange exhibition that is currently running is definitely worth seeing. She is a national treasure.
This is an amazing place to visit. I've lived in Nashville for a long time and it's still one of my favorite places around. You can spend an entire day in here. Great for families and dates.
The scope of this museum is very narrow. Check what is showing before you go as there are no permanent displays and (when we went) only two exhibits to view.
The exhibition I visited was a collection of photos, capturing the chaos and sorrow in poeple faces at time of WW. Forced relocation of Japanese decent in WW2. There are some creative spaces to express yourself artistically. A great place for a date since there is a cafe at the entrance.
Reasonably priced. Enjoyed the exhibits. The interactive area was a hit with the child with us. Staff was wonderful and the cafe was nice too. Definitely recommend.
The art here is not only beautiful and powerful but very informational of history. I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did. Thank you :)))
Beautiful building and I love the less than subtle anti fascist theme at the moment.
AWESOME!!! Attending Wedding Reception!Wonderful Atmosphere & Great Staff!
Great gallery, lived the flag exchange. Want to go when there's more than one featured artist.
small crowd, exhibit was excellent. Museum folks very friendly and helpful.
It's a nice, smallish contemporary arts museum, very nice kids area with print making etc..
Great place! Wish there were more paintings to see but I was so happy my favorite artists were there! The upstairs was fun for my son, just a bit crowded.
Always a revolving collection or two of traveling exhibit. No permanent collection so it keeps things interesting. Perfect for me as I get to Nashville once every couple of years. Plus the gift shop is top notch!
Great regional museum with temporary exhibits. Awesome space.
This is a great museum of rotating exhibits meaning there is no permanent collection and every visit can be different. The building is art deco, a former post office and worth a look by itself. Lovely exhibits, creative gift shop and a tasty cafe round out a must do in Nashville. We visit for every new exhibit.
Went to the "Paris 1900" exhibit. Enjoyed our time at the museum.
HUGE variety of exhibits! Check their website, you never know what you might find on display here!
Excellent art museum for a few hours visit. Easily managed without getting art overload. Nice rotating exhibits. We saw an extensive exhibit on Eric Carle, author of The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Worthy of a visit when you are in Nashville. Interesting building that was once a post office.
Make sure you know what exhibits are open before parking because if you're not interested in the particular available exhibit and dont pay for tickets, you're paying $10 to park.
Really cool looking old style building with great exhibits.
We came here as a Father's Day trip and it was so much fun! We made lots of pieces in the ArtQuest area and the exhibits they had were amazing.
Magnificent Art Deco Venue for rotating exhibits. Will always visit when in Nashville.
The Frist is fantastic for my small family, we can play for a long time at the Art quest upstairs and be sure to catch a wonderful exhibit.
This place was beautiful. The tour guides were so sweet. The art quest was so fun and great for all ages. Loved it.
I like this museum but because of a $1,000 Black Tie Gala regular tours were canceled. Exhibits hours were shortened. But we paid full price. Our group was disappointed as were others that were trying to see all of the museum.
Frida Kahlo exhibit and works from picasso, dali, pollock and miro along with too many great artists to list
This place blows my mind with how amazing it is, the genuine care in the exhibits and presentation is wonderful.
The Frist does not own it's art, but puts together well exhibits on various topics and art styles. The building was a post office constructed during the depression. A free architectural tour is given on the first Saturday of each month. An area is designated for making art is great for children of all ages.
Don't miss the cafe after visiting the fine exhibits. Hidden in the back of the building overlooking a pleasant courtyard with outdoor tables as well as indoor space, the food is excellent and fairly priced. The half chicken salad sandwich on croissant roll is delicious. Homemade chips or a yummy salad come with. The fruit tea is a local treat and the desserts are amazing. The exhibits change regularly. The building itself is delightful art deco and the museum shop provides special gifts some made by local artisans.
The Frist has various exhibits that cycle through the museum rather than having permanent ones. This provides a wide range of exhibits, and the temporary time to see them keeps the desire to visit ongoing and always refreshing.
Loved the Eric Carle exhibit! The Frist is open late on Thursday and Friday, so it's a great place to go after work and unwind. There were a few events there and lots of people - great vibrant atmosphere! The college student discount is an excellent deal too. Parking is $2/hr, thanks to the museum discount.
I liked this museum and its fine choice of contemporary art. Although it was a little small, the space was well-used. The employee who first greeted me was very welcoming and that made the experience that much better as a weary tourist!
Great venue and beautiful art deco old post office building. Worth a visit.
Small museum with not much to show. We paid a lot of money to just see 1 art exhibit. Wish we knew that before paying to go in. Half the museum seems to be dedicated to classes and not art collections. Other museums have a more diverse collection and charge less or nothing at all to visit.
Nick Cave exhibition was brilliant. I d certainly like to see more exhibitions from both students and professionals within the halls.
They had wonderful stuff. But frankly for the cost it was very small.
Always a wonderful experience. Today we were treated with murals of north Nashville and a docent. Lunch in the cafe was a treat. I went for the sweet potato salad since it was the first day of fall. It was reaaally good. Good quality whole foods at decent prices.
WW1 exhibit was very interested and best with docent (Frist guide) Keith M. who just happens to be British and X british military! WOW he had such great detail and 1st hand knowledge of the war thus the meaning in many of the pictures. All the Frist Docents a great! If you every get an opportunity to go with a docent/guide highly recommended it! 2018 will be WW1 Centennial. The Nick Cave exhibit is also upstairs and Kevin said it too is a must see!
Pretty lame. More diversity of art would have been nice. Tickets are far too expensive imo
Great collection, lovely tour guides, they host a ton of events for the city
Wonderful, small museum with excellent exhibits. I was there to see a Friedo Kahlo exhibit and it was well worth the time. Also there was a very nice exhibit on surrealism. The entrance fees are very reasonable also. Nice maker space to explore your inner artist that many adults and all kids would love.
Parking was easy to get to, on the backside of the building and reasonable in cost. We went in through the back which was nice that we didn't have to go around to the front. Staff was very nice, helpful. The building is well looked after and the Roman exhibit was wonderful. Will be back for other events.
