The Van Gogh exhibit here was amazing. We attended on a Thursday night for student night and arrived just in time for an exhibit talk! The talk was very educational but also fun and interactive. After our tour, we perused into the cafe to listen in on a smooth jazz band

Steep admission charge for a small museum. Then again, I'm from Chicago -- home of the Art Institute, which is -- literally -- forty-two (42) times the size of the Frist Amateur Gallery, and charges the same admission (and is FREE on Thursdays). Oh, well. Such is the south.

Two brilliant artists, as well as others with whom I was not familiar, represent the Mexican anti-fascist art movement. Frida Kahlo's colorful works have always appealed to me. We got a BIG discount on parking behind the museum.b

Such a nice museum. Even if I'm not super interested in the current exhibit, I still like to go. For the price there's no reason to not at least go check it out if you're at all interested in art.

This time around I checked out ArtQuest with my 5 and 3 year old nieces. Of course they loved it. There are a variety of activities for children and adults! We were literally there for hours.

Omg the Frida Exhibit is Beautiful!! 10/10 I recommend you check it out if it s up while you re reading this. This my second time visiting the Museum and both times (for different exhibits) were amazing. If you re looking for something interesting to do or just want to clear your mind looking at some art is a great way!

Small but great exhibits. Looks like they switch up displays frequently so definitely worth a trip back. I'm not the biggest art aficionado but still was able to spend a half hour browsing.

If you have kids don t miss this place!!! Excellent family location. Kids 18 and under are free and the kids art area is so fun that our kids requested to go back years later. They can paint, do stamps, try printmaking, make stop motion videos and SO MUCH MORE. This is one of the best places in all of downtown Nashville to take kids. Even really little ones will love all the interactive art stations!

I loved this place on 2 levels

I loved this place on 2 levels
1) The exhibitions were fantastic (the Art of WWII and Nick Cave)
2) The building was SUPERB (it's an art deco USPS building). Grab one of the guides to talk you through the history of it.
Also, as a nod to the history of the building the tickets are postage stamps - perfect!

The building is interesting as an old post office, but the museum only seems to have one or two exhibitions on at a time. You could spend less than 30 minutes here at most, and for the admission price, it's not worth it.

This looks like a pretty cool space. It was a bit disappointing that the main exhibit area was being turned over when we were in town. I hope to visit again when we return to Nashville.

A great place to experience art - well curated and frequently fun and/or topical. My all time favorite was the animation exhibit. If you re visiting Nashville- go. If you re local- go. The building itself is lovely and I ve heard the architecture tour is fantastic.

Caught the Dorothea Lange exhibit as well as the Monet, Degas, Van Gogh exhibit. Both were great. the Lange exhibit was large and excellent! They really made the space easy to see everything and in a great order of viewing it all. It almost made a visual story. Free bag check is so helpful after walking around town all day. Security guards were helpful and knowledgeable as well. Definitely be back for the next exhibit!

Frist cares about the details and their exhibits are well planned, which guarantees captivating experiences.
Even the building itself is an artifact, since it is a historic, former post office. That makes for a great architectural exploration as well, but it also makes it a little bit harder to get around on the second floor. All together, well worth a visit. Their food and staff are great too!

I love the Frist and I was so looking forward to the Frida Kahlo collection. I barely got to see any of it because apparently I am not allowed to wear my 30lb baby on my back in a carrier. Like I can sneak a freaking 500 lb painting in there. I ended up carrying him to the kids room to sit. I understand no food, drinks, photography (even though I saw a lot of that), but making me waste an admission fee because I m carrying my baby is bs. And I read the rules before I came so you might want to update that.

Cool museum. Unfortunately they charge full price during Covid19 and aren't upfront whatsoever about most of the exhibits and art being closed off.

Total scam experience, unfortunately.
