This is easily the best museum in Nashville. Last Friday I attended the Frist Friday event, which is a concert series that the museum runs for part of the summer from 6-9pm every Friday. The music was phenomenal, they had drinks and food, and for $12 you were able to listen to the show and walk the museum. I ended up spending an hour listening, and another hour wandering their exhibits. Right now they have a superb contemporary American exhibit, that engages you with so many different mediums and messages. Easily one of the best $12 I've spent in a long long time.

It's not the largest art museum I have been to, but it's certainly one of the prettiest inside. I was there for a samurai exhibit and Ragnar Kjarlsonn's (unsure of spelling) The Visitors. The venue was nice, the staff was pleasant, and I think I got my money's worth. My only wish is that it would be a bit larger.

I was almost convinced not to go to the Frist by a young people who misread the fee structure and were not impressed either by the many b&w historical photos displayed on the lower level of the corridors. I am glad I decided to check things out myself.

When I walked in, I was first hit by the silence, like I was entering a place of worship, one filled with reverence. Why? Then I saw the photos - all along both walls of the corridors heading towards the ticket counter.i started reading the first blown up photo of a newsprint from 1960s and I was lost in the history of the struggles and fight for acceptance by the African-Americans of the time. Rev Martin Luther King Jr s name and pictures came up over and over along the walls. His support and fight for freedom, for equality for his people, leading to his assassination in 1968 and further determination of the African-American people of America. I teared up when reading how they were locked out from entering a pool, how the Western white people protested desegregation at schools. Such repetitive acts of discrimination has occurred everywhere that was occupied by Europeans, especially the English, who invaded most continents.

But, let s stop there now. To return to the Frist, I was impressed with the beautiful interior and architecture of the place. High ceilings and soft lighting. Then, I went to the ticket counter and asked how much for the entry - her response $12 for all 3 exhibits . I asked if they had a regular exhibit, hopefully free for the public, and she said No. I decided $12 was fair, paid for it, was given a wrist band to wear. Off I went; and though I am not a fan of modern art, the Chaos & Awe exhibition was excellent. The selected art of contemporary artists resonated with the name. I am not an art buff but I have selected photos to portray what I am trying to convey.

I think every Art Museum needs local and international support to keep the Arts alive, so, if you are local or a tourist to Nashville, do go in and enjoy their exhibits. The staff at Frist are courteous and actually walked up to me to tell me that the place was closing in 15 minutes when I had walked to the top floor for the Photography exhibition. What? Where had the time gone? I had been there 3 hours!

Glad i had not dismissed the place on someone else s opinion.

They had beautiful artwork, the Samauri exhibit was amazing to see. It's not everyday you get to see armor from 1700's Japan. Plus they have a lot of hands on activities for kids. And one of a kind items in the gift shop.

We went for a weekend trip to Nashville and decided to visit the Frist. The art was captivating and thought invoking. My kids loved the hands on area upstairs, making several types of art. I recommend visiting highly.

This is a first class museum. The building itself is worth the price of admission... Full of history. They acquire great art work to display. Great place to spend a leisurely day and create memories with your friends and family.

We had a great time here! We were able to view "The Animation Show" which had a number of great clips and provided relevant history. The center also offered 2 other exhibits at the time. It also has a cool activity center where you can complete various art projects (geared towards children).

We have been to the Frist Art Museum two times and it was wonderful each time. The art displays change and offer a unique variety of displays. I saw a Jackson Pollack on the last visit. I highly recommend this museum.

This place is so extravagant and spectacular. Words cannot do justice for the love I have for the collections I saw during my visit. The Art Museum is just so beautiful, all the staff are very welcoming and professional and incredibly helpful. I was overwhelmed with the place and the recent collection just took my breathe away. You are allowed to take picture just no flash and you can get pretty close to the paintings too. It was just phenomenal. Great place to take families too there s a kids room upstairs for kids to watch and play with paint and learn about it. Put this on your bucket list and worth the trip.

A solid museum that had a blend of galleries but a lack of items to put forth. It was trying to use space that should be put to use for twice the volume. Maybe I'm spoiled on my hometown museums' free permanent collection, and the fact it's one of the best, but The Frist was less spectacular than its touring galleries and for the 10$ underwhelmed me with its permanent. We caught the last day of the Twins "Osgemeos" and that was the shining star, talk about a unique vision. The horror gallery was the other touring section and was incredibly interesting and added a nice dose of history to boot. If those galleries weren't there, not sure what my thoughts would be.

A slice of refined culture right in the heart of Nashville! As a native, sometimes I forget about the lovely gems we have, with all the new construction. I visited the Frida Kahlo exhibit and it was wonderful. The frist is always clean, friendly, and accommodating. A perfect afternoon activity!

The mood and service was wonderful, very affordable price. Eighteen and under go in for free which is great being a parent. The exhibition itself was interesting, minus one star because of how many security guards there were watching you, you just felt uncomfortable and with their gazes all over you it felt like they were following you. Besides that it was a great time, they had an interactive craft station in the second floor which was very fun for the kids and even us as parents we got to enjoy it as well.

Have been visiting the Frist since I was a kid. I learned the many forms of art as well as how to appreciate art for all that it is and comes from. I have started taking my oldest child to see exhibits and she thoroughly enjoyed it. She loves the hands on area also. Always a great day spent at the Frist alone or with kids.

On the lower floor there was an excellent showing of American Art in the traditional museum venue. Upstairs was a gold mine for the kids who were totally engrossed with the hands on graphics art displays.

Their kids art section upstairs is fantastic. Probably better for 5 and up but younger kids can enjoy too. Peaceful and calming space. If your child loves to create, this is were you should take them. Year membership is a great deal too.

A true gem of the city, this place is exquisite. Packed with an abundance of art history, one visit isn't enough to take it all in. With several affordable options for memberships it's definitely a must have for local residence and travelers alike. Looking forward to bringing the whole family back, again and again.
The staff was courteous and friendly. The accommodations seemed just right for any group of visitors.

Love the Frist! If you ve got the time make sure to take the architecture tour to learn about the history of the old US post office that was turned into the museum it is today. A nice addition to Nashville.
