Gourmet food. I enjoyed mine but felt like more thought was put into the appearance vs the food. I would come back but would have to make sure the style fit the company.

My husband and I were travelling through Birmingham and found this restaurant close to our hotel. We decided to get takeout after a long day in the car and we were not disappointed! Everything that we had was amazing. The food was fresh and care had obviously been put into its preparation. Plus the staff was friendly and welcoming. I would definitely go back!

Make reservations! This is a slow dinner kind of atmosphere so you don't want to try waiting. Everything we ordered was great...old fashioned, margarita, foie gras, breakfast for dinner, muscles, cheese, and apple cake. Great atmosphere too

The food is incredible! The service and environment of the restaurant, overall, is unmatched! I am here all the time, and I am always beyond satisfied.

Simply superb. The crab claws were delicious. My steak was perfect, and the vegetables were savory and complementary. Then there is the chocolate phylo dessert which is beyond words. The service was excellent and their curated wine and cocktail list is spot on. Best meal I've had in a long time.

3 scallops and a plate full of potatoes for $32. Nah.

Overpriced. Fair food. Below average service. Go elsewhere.

Foodbar is an outstanding fine dining experience. Hanger steak is divine. Service is very exceptional. You must give Foodbar a try. It will be your go to place.

Food is good but expensive. The waiter we had seemed a little full of himself and was not very pleasant. I will probably try this place again, maybe.

WE LOVE FOOD BAR!!!! The hamburger (a secret item they serve but usually isn't on the menu) is hands down the best in town and a Friday night staple at our house. Everything we have ever there is fresh, flavorful and simply delicious. They have a nice casual atmosphere. The staff and service has always been excellent, easily accommodates to requests for substitutions and is attentive but not over bearing.

Never fails to delight. Snapper with micros was awesome.

Absolutely brilliant food. Executive Chef George McMillan is a genius. The cocktails are refreshing and original, and the atmosphere is calm and relaxing. I love the service and the positive attitudes of the entire staff. Will definitely be spending a lot of time and money at this establishment.

Foodbar is our favorite restaurant in Birmingham. We prefer it to all of the restaurants on Southside. Have eaten there many times including takeout during COVID-emic and have tried every item on their menu. Every meal has been excellent. The wait staff is friendly and knowledgeable guides.The atmosphere is very casual and relaxed. The default ingredient in most Birmingham restaurants is salt. Foodbar is one of two restaurants in Birmingham that respects your dietary preferences including low sodium. Their vegetable plate is a delight even for a carnivore.

I'm sure this restaurant would have earned more stars if they'd ever bothered to serve us. I'd called several days early to request a reservation and was told they didn't take them. So we got there at 7:30ish on a Saturday night and, as expected, every table was full, as was the bar. The hostess started to tell us that we had a few parties before us, then corrected herself and said that we were next. She did also say that if two bar seats opened up, the bar offered full service.

There's literally nowhere inside to wait and not be right in the way of servers so we were just standing there awkwardly inside the door. A table cleared and they seated someone from the bar at it. Another table cleared and they seated some more people from the bar. I suppose we were next for whenever one of the (approximately three) tables that seats exactly two people was available?

Anyway, we decided we'd just sit at the bar and eat. It looked like one bartender (female) was in the middle of a nervous breakdown/tantrum and the other one was trying to do literally everything. He acknowledged us right away, then we sat there for quite a while before he came over and gave us water and walked off again without asking what we wanted to drink. He passed us several times without even looking in our direction as he attended to people on either side of us. We allowed another ten minutes to pass before we gave up and left.

I told the hostess that it seemed like they were just too busy to serve us and that she could take us off the list for a table. Instead of offering any apology or solution, she hatefully said, "Well you're going to have to tell me your name!" I resisted the urge to tell her to figure it out for herself.

I understand being busy, but they looked perfectly adequately staffed for the relatively small number of tables in the restaurant and two bartenders should have been PLENTY to provide timely service to the small bar area, as well as fulfill the servers' drink orders. And this place is too pricey to offer anything less than spectacular service.

We went straight over to Fig Tree Cafe and had a fantastic meal at the same price point, with excellent service.

Great food, excellent cocktails, impeccable service. Go here for sure.

Everything - from wine to salads to entrees to desserts - was delicious. And the service was superb. Great experience.

Nice atmosphere, excellent appetizer, excellent desserts. Our entrees needed more flavor. Won't stop me from visiting again.

Hidden gem! The food and service are always great!!

Great food and a great atmosphere! If you are in a hurry or don't want to go when it's crowded don't go on Friday or Saturday night. This place is very busy during those times and the staff did an amazing job serving us asap. I will be back. Thanks George and the staff at the Food bar!

Date night. Hour drive to Birmingham for a nice dinner. Reservations for 2. Not too crowded on a Friday night. In fact we were the only couple inside. Promptly seated. Friendly, attentive service by Abbey who had served us on a previous occasion. Nice fried oysters with a good remoulade. Perfectly cooked scallops with an interesting succotash. Ahi appetizer that was generous but came topped with a gelatinous seaweed and a thin, mayonaise- like sauce that we didn't care for. A little pricey. In and out quickly. Just nothing special about it. Atmosphere lacking a bit probably from the CV-19 restrictions.

Excellent food, service and good liquor selection, good wine selection.

Excellent choice for fine dining in a casual setting. FOODBAR now takes reservations which is a plus. Menu changes frequently and they often have off-menu entrees. We had scallops and hangar steak. Both are superb. We ve been here three times and all were great.
UPDATE : we ve been here more than a dozen times and still GOAT. Steak was served with a different presentation but amazing. Bolognese also superb - not your mama s red sauce - it s indescribably delicious. Sorry Ma. You will not be disappointed here. We love Foodbar.

The foie gras is out of this world. I cannot say enough good things about this wonderful restaurant!

Foodbar is reliable high end dining with good service. Decor is modern/casual, such as concrete floor. In a strip mall in Cahaba Heights, plenty of parking so no valet action which is kind of nice. Have been there 1 - 3 times a year for 5+ years and never a problem, always has been good. They will take reservations via phone, not online. Medium sized, plus in warm weather there is dining also on the front sidewalk area.

Nothing like a perfect meal. Octopus and Foi Gras were delicious. Soft shell crab and Flounder were spot on. Lavender pound cake & Blueberry crumble were a perfect finish. I think next time we will order just a bunch of appetizers as there are many we wanted to order. Excellent job Foodbar!!

One of my favorite restaurants. Fabulous atmosphere filled with many loyal locals. Thirst quenching libations and delicious menu items. A must!!!

Good food, good service, good drinks. I wish bar area was a bit larger, nonetheless, always a great meal.

I recently visited this resturant and was appauled by the service given by the owner. The food is unfairly priced and not as the other reviews have suggested. The owner of this resturant was very rude, vulgar with profanity to his staff and delivery drivers. During our visit, he was a bully. I will never return.

Second visit to Foodbar was just as good - if not better - than the first! Soft-shelled crab (fried) dinner was wonderful, blueberry cobbler tasted perfect (a bit high priced for the portion size, though) and is excellent with the suggested scoop of vanilla bean ice cream (ice cream add-on comes with an upcharge). Great wait staff. I'm sure we will be back again. Hopefully dessert is either larger or lower priced in the future or we may skip that part on future trips.
