Walt Whitman Birthplace is a fantastic place to learn about the early life of America's greatest poets. I interned there in college and I returned for curatorial experience. A truly fascinating place to explore the historical record.

Great place for kids, teens and adults alike - interested in the literary arts and history.
The grounds are amazing. To see where someone in history spent their time, shared with family and loved ones, and the actual works shared is also what makes the experiences there very special.
They also host and provide other programs free and/or at cost to the public and private guests. Walt Whitman Birthplace is a must visit.

I remember my first time stepping foot into the Whitman Birthplace and how magical a feeling it is to get to visit where Whitman was born. The interactive exhibit space is so well done and such an inviting space. I highly recommend visiting Whitman's farmhouse, the interactive exhibit, and taking a stroll outside. Also, there are so many virtual events happening right now with the Birthplace so please check out their YouTube channel.

Tiny museum which requires a house tour. A lot of history but too little information about Walt. They have parking lot but it can be closed for no explanation. My expectations were not meeting. Not good for visiting if they host same events.

It s a really cool Historic Site to check out. The tour is really informative. The interpretation center has great information and a fantastic gift shop to grab a text to read. Beautiful site worth all the time to enjoy you could spare.

I had a wonderful time at Walt Whitman s birthplace! There was a wealth of information provided both by text and by the extremely helpful and informative staff. In particular, Iris was fantastic, having given me a brilliant and interesting tour of the house itself. I would highly recommend going, especially if you re a Walt Whitman fan!

Everyone owes it to themselves to visit The Walt Whitman Birthplace because Whitman is the father of American Poetry allowing all of us the freedom of free verse and beyond. There are many, many programs to enjoy year long. Hiking in the area where he walked, too. Promise me you will use the internet today to see what's happening at The Walt Whitman Birthplace and plan a visit soon!

It's right across the street from the only thing most Islanders know about the great Whitman, a mall bearing his name-which he'd roll over in his grave if he knew about. Yet, far too few people even know about this place. Learn about our history-visit the Man's home

This is kinda cool but feel Whitman is flopping in his resting place over the mall in his namesake.
The grounds etc are great educationally. I found the staff unaware of their workshops i inquired about, and have to agree with the other cmnts about boredom... but i didn't need them to be amusement park Muppets to enjoy why this place is preserved.
They have a nice gift shop for those bookish types.

What a fun little place! I came here for a poetry event for an association I belong to and I never knew of its existence. I learned a lot of history about Walt Whitman and for a poetry reading the space was large and accommodating. I was also a nerd and read all of the quotes and history about Walt Whitman. It was a little hard to find, and it is somewhat obscured by the road, without a lot of signs or anything indicating that it is there. Glad I finally stumbled upon this little LI gem.

When I worked at 110 Walt Whitman Rd, nearby (at Timely Organization in 1972-3) this was a pleasant place to eat lunch. There is an amazing amount of history on Long Island, and this is one location of many interesting ones. As I have More

A little hidden gem that's great for a relaxed visit. The interpretive center is very informative and well laid out. The staff is knowledgeable, warm and welcoming. The house tour was just the right length. I hadn't been there in many years despite having grown up in the area and it was very pleasant and we spent about 2 hours there at an enjoyable pace.

Seems like a great place, sadly the cashier was abrupt and unwelcoming. Didn t allow up space to make the decision to stay for a tour. Feeling uncomfortable our party left, hope to try again next time we are in town.

O Whitman, my Whitman! Our tourist trip is done! Across the street, I hear American shopping, exchanging varied Leaves of Cash for perfumes (I breathe the fragrance myself and know it and like it). This birthplace is large and contains multitudes, camerado...

I find the description of WW House as being in "Strip Mall Country" highly offensive. It was apparently written by someone who lives far, far away. The Walt Whitman House is a beautiful museum on Long Island's busiest commercial boulevard. It is an example of what life on Long Island was, and still IS in many spots. For the record, Long Island has more beach than Florida, world-class restaurants and hotels, a thriving tourist economy, is the heart of Technology in NY State and has NY State's largest continually productive agricultural county, Suffolk. Additionally LI is home to SUNY Stony Brook, Adelphi University, Molloy College and a dozen other institutions of higher learning. Two minutes of research would have revealed this, if the "non compos mentis" who wrote it had taken the time.

Very friendly and accommodating Executive Director! She allowed us to tour the museum when we showed up on a closed day, since we were visiting from so far away. It was very peaceful spending time in the space.

Stopped in on a whim during a motorcycle ride since I've never been there. Glad I did. The tour was very informative and enjoyable. Our guide Iris was excellent and it was very interesting to see the home preserved to the way things were in the past. I highly recommend visiting.
