I try really hard to not come very often (as I m slowly adopting a gluten free vegan life-style), but the food is so delicious, especially with stress from school and with it being minutes away from UIC, that coming here is an instant reliever to all my educational woes. The service is always great. I ve had only good memories here at Fontanos! Thank you.

I don't say this lightly... if I were on death row, a 10" Caputo from here would be my final meal.

Forget deep dish - this is what Chicago should be known for. I've been a happy customer of this sandwich joint for over 10 years and I'm yet to have another sub that even comes close. I would honestly consider donating $500 if I heard they were struggling due to COVID.

Fantastic sandwiches! Super nice people that work there. And the peanut butter cookies, da bomb! Walked to this place on a whim while in the city and it did NOT disappoint. Nothing bad to say here. Glad we experienced it. If youre in the mood for a tasty samich seek this place out and enjoy yourself.

Came here on a Friday I think. I think I might become a regular. The bill was decent for the quality. Kinda of like a place in Houston that I enjoyed.

the subs are decent, but the staff is rude and unpleasant, the one lady reeks of booze and cigarettes and acts as if someone just took away her crystal meth pipe. try conti savoia on taylor st. for an all round great experience.

The food is just beyond wonderful. It is filling and totally worth it. Get the combo (Italian beef + Italian sausage) with spicy giardiniera, meatball with spicy giardiniera, or the Caputo. Can't go wrong! Great Italian food and plenty of UIC students.

Just amazing submarines full of greasiness, fullness, and good lunch deals. I came in as a student 12 years ago and make my pilgrimage whenever I visit Uic, my Alma mater.

Great subs and bread too. Watch out for the owner, has a tongue like a rattle snake. All sorts of lengths of subs and varieties.

By far one of the best sub places in Chicago everytime I'm in the Taylor Street area this is a must go. They have several signature sandwiches but my all-time favorite is the Blockbuster it is packed with flavor and different Italian Salamis that are just absolutely delicious. I also enjoyed their meatball sandwiches. I have frequent this place for almost 30 years I just retired from the area but every time I get a chance I come to fontano's.

Favorite subs and I have been to a lot of different places. Worst part is when the food is all gone.

A favorite since they opened a Hinsdale outpost when I was a kid. The blockbuster and caputo are my favorite subs, and the turkey is surprisingly good as well. Awesome fresh baked bread.

I recommend the Italian special with hot giardiniera. The UNWAVERING quality of the meat, the size of the sangwich plus the quality of of the fresh bread have been exactly the same since I discovered Fontano's in 1977. If you want a tasty sub of the freshest finest deli in Chicago then by all means go to FONTANO'S.

A hidden gem. They have amazing Italian submarine sandwiches. Whenever I need a quick and delicious Italian submarine fix, they are my go-to place. And when I want to impress the family with some fabulous add-ons to my pasta, they have the best meatballs and freshly made Italian sausage.

This place has the best sub sandwiches ever. They are so fresh and I love how you can order 6 inch if you're hungry or 8 or 10 inch sub if you're starving. There are so many options for chips! I always try something new each time I go. I also buy the meatballs and take them home for dinner. They are the best meatballs around. This is an easy place to stop in really quick and go, or you can sit down and eat, too. The parking can be difficult given the time of day (street parking only). Lunch time is easily the busiest, and you have to account for the school year. This place is right by UIC campus, so it get's busy during the school year. If you are looking for real italian food then you need to visit this place at least once in your life.

Our Italian Beef sub DID NOT disappoint. So glad we went a little further out of the way to go to the original location, it was well worth it.

These subs are OUT OF THE WORLD. They are located in Little Italy and they are an absolute must have for either lunch or dinner. I leave satisfied every single time- staff is super friendly, and their grocery store is the icing to the full Italian experience.

The best Sub in Chicago I have been going to this place for years, try the new subs when they are available (pot roast). The best thing about this place is you don't run into too many whiny suburbanite princess types like the ones who gave it a low rating on this page.They usually get chased out and end up at the subway on Taylor where they belong.
