Fatted Calf Restaurant - Dallas TX Review

We were there for a late breakfast. The food was great. I recommend the strawberry mimosa. We will be back.

Food just ok but clean restaurant with good service.

Our nee favorite place! Many options, but not all are weight management friendly. Everything we have eaten so far has been amazing. Sweet potatoe pancake is unbelievable. No syrup required. Will be back more than I need to.

The best way to describe this place is disappointment. The service is great, but the inconsistencies in the food is just unprofessional. Every time I come here I'm left thinking "how did I just spend $40 on that". I normally order the chick n' waffle. 2 years ago it was the best chicken and waffles you could get. It came with a big piece of chicken breast, a great amount of gravy and the waffle was perfect. Now the price is higher and not only do you bairly get enough gravy to finish the meal, and the chicken is so thin the breading is thicker than the actual chicken. When it comes to the waffle you'd be better off going to waffle house; the quality would be much better. It almost tasted like eating a cake of flower. The drinks are another story completely. We ordered two Moscow mules, both came out tasting like stright lime water. I'm pretty sure that I have an ulcer from the two sips I took before I just decided to give up on it. When i ask about why the chicken is so small I was given the answer that "it's faster to cook the smaller pieces, some days well do the big ones and others we do the small". I'm pretty sure the 40 minutes we waited for our food would be plenty to cook the normal piece. So pretty much you pay the full price for almost half the food. Just frankly sad that a place that was this good could go down hill this much. Won't be returning.

This place is hit or miss, more miss lately. We are today and this will be our last time. All 6 of us had a problem with our food or drink. The food was bad and either burnt or undercooked. The staff were too busy playing and giving each other piggy back rides than checking on the customers. Would not reccomend given the much better choices available in down town rockwall. Hopefully they will close soon and someone that cares about the food they serve and the customers that eat there will move in.

During Mother's Day Brunch I jokingly told the manager that it just wasn't right not to have something chocolate as a dessert choice. He went to the back and came back out with a small box of chocolate candy for me. Now that's taking care of the customer! Fatted Calf is our go-to for nice family events. The food is always well prepared and delicious.

Absolutely lovely breakfast. Great service, good coffee, nice atmosphere and fantastic food. Also, there is a really cool painting of a chicken on the wall. The parking was super easy as well. We had young and old people alike in our group, and Texan and non Texans. Everyone enjoyed it anyway.

Lovely brunch on a Thursday, excellent service, very nice menu..my friends and I were able to relax and chat. I highly recommend this restaurant.

I left my phone and the manager and staff helped me out a bunch. They're very honest and polite. Thanks again!

First time eating here. It was ok. I had the Chicken Fried Steak with mashed potatoes and corn. While it was a very generous portion; it lacked some seasoning over all. I'll go back to try something else to see how that is.

Decent food but not worth the price. Super loud in the restaurant.

First thing I want to say is I don t even like Brussels sprouts... but they made me a fan of their s. This place had the best service and food I have had in a long time and this comes from someone who has worked in the food service industry for 10+ years including high end restaurants in Napa Valley and San Francisco.

Everything from the appetizer, a crab dip, to the main course I ordered, a cedar plank salmon was off the charts. Also, the bartender made an amazing mojito which is a very difficult drink to master.

Highly recommended!!!!

The food is good but way overpriced. It's always really loud because of the interior design. Got the french dip sandwich...asked for an extra pickle and they said they would have to charge me for it. Will not be back.

Delicious food, great staff. We had the pub burger and the short ribs. The burger was big but melted when I bit into it. The short ribs were anything but short. They were huge and full of flavor.

Felt very unsafe as far as the coronavirus-no employee wore masks, no social distancing;,there is a long wait for the food-it took almost 30 min. to get our hamburgers and there were only 3 tables of customers, but the food is excellent-the hamburgers are the best I've ever eaten

Sunday brunch was busy (as expected). Host texted us when table was ready which is nice.

Food was very good with large portions. I had the chicken fried steak which I enjoyed heartily. Pablano was an odd addition to the cream gravy, but it wasn't overly distracting or distinctive.

Server was very nice and reasonably attentive. Food arrived about when expected. Had to remind her about a request for butter and drinks, but again this was a peak time so it wasn't anything unreasonable.

Lunch was definitely on the expensive side at about $20 per person with soft drinks. We did not order any alcohol.

All in all. It was a very good experience and I would not hesitate to return except for price.

Great food and great service! We've been seated very quickly. You have to try the sticky buns on the weekend---they are AWESOME!

Absolutely loved this restaurant. Had Fried Green Tomatoes for the first time ever and they were amazing. Great food and service!! Will definitely be back!

The food lacked flavor, and it was overpriced for what it was. With the place being called "the fatted calf," I expected the meat to be high quality and full of flavor, so I was sorely disappointed when the burger arrived at the table with 2 dry, thin patties that were clearly not made in house. Also ordered the honey butter chicken. The plate looked beautiful, the crisp of the fried chicken was great, but then I bit into it to find that it was completely flavorless. No taste of butter or honey, and no salt, or other flavors on any of the sides it came with. Funny enough, the only thing that tasted like it had been seasoned were the burger patties (probably because they were bought frozen from somewhere else).

Great atmosphere, service, and food. I would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting the Rockwall area of Dallas!

Can't go here without at some point experiencing the house made bloody bull. Also do not miss out on the chicken and waffle. Great atmosphere and nice smaller downtown setting in the middle of Rockwall Square. Highly recommend.

Service was terrible, waitress was forgetful, she couldn't remember out of the overwhelming three tables she had who ordered what. A different waiter assumed we were done with the syrup on our table and just reached in and grab it without even confirming we were done and took off, just horrible service all around.

Nice atmosphere and service was good.
Food: about 1/3 of my chicken fried steak was breading. Taste was decent but breading to meat ratio was way off. The cut corn and mashed potatoes were great. Little pricey.

My wife and I have been here a couple of times. The food is fantastic and the service is pretty good. Having only tried a few things on the menu I can say that they have a kitchen that knows how to put out some amazing foods. We got a desert that was a smores in a jar type of thing, and it was a bit cumbersome for us to eat. Great location and great food!

My husband and I come here religiously for brunch because it is the best. Have never gotten a plate or server that has been less than excellent. I m a big city Dallas girl and this place is my favorite breakfast spot by far.

I had the Chick n Waffle this morning and it was delicious! Gave 4 stars because there were no specialty coffees...yes I'm fancy lol. Needs better coffee as well. It was weak. The bartender, however, was very friendly and accomodating. He was knowledgeable about the menu items and suggested a great meal. Sticky bun was amazing for desert! I can't say the same of the patrons, tho. If it weren't for the bartender, I would've felt extremely unwelcome. Not a very diverse little city...not very nice citizens either. Won't dine alone there again. Maybe I can just order it to go...

Great place with a warm feel. The food is very high quality and I highly recommend if you're visiting downtown Rockwall.

Love this place!! My go to place for brunch!! The strawberry mimosas are amazing oh and that strawberry jelly they have is to die for! So yummy! I definitely recommend to family and friends!

Terrible service the wait to get food. Unbelievable

We loved the ambience , interior, and the staff. All the food was delicious, however, it was not as hot as we would have liked. This visit was a holiday with a buffet. We are going back on a normal day as we really were impressed.

Exceptional!! Service was great, food was excellent, I will definitely be back to try dinner.

One more positive for this restaurant: We arrived at 1:35 pm on Sunday afternoon, they close at 2 pm. I inquired if it would be ok to dine in, considering it being so close to 2 pm. The hostess without missing a beat, said of course and got us a table. Excellent customer service.

Been there for breakfast and dinner. The dinner was better yet the breakfast was delisoush. Good place for a good meal.

The pancakes have zero flavor, even the butter and syrup didn't help. The waffles are the same story. I ordered pecan pancakes and was told there would be pecans in them, but they came piled on top with powdered sugar instead. I asked the waitress if there were pecans in the pancakes - once when ordering and once when they arrived - and she said yes. They were not. I have had excellent eggs Benedict here one time a long time ago, but Everytime I come back the food gets worse.

Dinner was delicious. I ordered the cedar wrapped salmon and that was one of the best prepared piece of salmon I ve had in a very long time. The wait staff was polite and attentive. I definitely recommend this restaurant and will return.

Love the food and service here on a regular basis! Having a young son (16 months old) it's always refreshing to have people be so accommodating when we take him out. Whether it's brunch or dinner, Fatted Calf is a can't miss!

We came for breakfast. The menu was large and included choices for my daughter, who doesn't like breakfast food. She ordered a french dip and it was amazing! Biscuits and gravy were good. The only complaint is it was sooo cold in there. So cold.

FABULOUS brunch... ok dinner. Love coming here for coffee and breakfast. I say "ok dinner" bc I'm allergic to a lot of the items so I do not really know what they taste like! I come here all the time for brunch though and love it! Great place for us SAHMs to get together and chat, and eat yummy food. My first choice in RW, hands down. Their fries are great, but all I've eaten off the dinner menu would be fries and a plain salad, so I can't speak to anything else. They've made the environment quite nice, although its always freezing in there. I would LOVE it if they would be open on the Monday that school starts in August. JUST that Monday. It's a hard Monday for us, and we need somewhere to go for a "boo hoo breakfast" so they say!

Delicious! They have some really unique breakfast items, and the staff has always been very nice. Service can be a bit slow when it's busy, but everything else makes up for it. I'm happy to have a new favorite local breakfast spot!

Great friendly service and staff that are very knowledgeable about the menu. We had the honey butter chicken, spinach salad, huevos ranchero and AM burger and they were all very good. Definitely recommend.

I've been several times for brunch. Food was very tasty. They take your common dishes and jazz them up. Breakfast has to be my favorite there. Overall good experience. The only issues I have are there are always a line to get seated and the food takes a while before you're served. Wait staff works very hard pushing tables. The place is clean and if you don't mind the wait you will enjoy the food. Cost for 4 adults expect to pay 65 to 70... For breakfast.

Had breakfast there. Got there about 8:30 on a Saturday and it wasn't crowded at all. But by the time we left an hour late, it was busy. Food was good. I had the Monterrey Omlette and hubs had Steak & Eggs. Omlette was huge. Steak was small but filling. Cooked just right. A little pricey but worth it for a special treat.

Good food, excellent service. We had red trout that was tender & tasty, lightly seasoned with a mild garlic butter cream sauce. Green beans with bacon were tasty & cooked just right. Broccoli was slightly undercooked & some pieces were discolored. Mashed potatos were creamy & tender. Our server Bryce was quick, attentive, friendly & polite. Menu is a little pricey.

I feel like we paid a lot for not that much. I paid for like a pound of strawberries to make that a strawberry pancake. Just one pancake. But it was hardly a STRAWBERRY pancake at all. He didn't much like his egg concoction either. Neat looking little place tho

So wanted to love this place, but alas... let's start with the good. Promptly seated, nice atmosphere, good vibe. Popular place, food well presented.

Service was good, and to her credit, when she asked about how we liked the fried pickles and I was less than enthusiastic she immediately offered to replace them.

Now the not so good. Bland. Just bland. The pickles had no zip. Consensus of the table. All you could taste was batter. The slaw, as has been mentioned in other reviews absolutely no flavor. All three of us picked at ours and didn't eat it. Surprised the kitchen has yet to address this. We all had the BTC. Bacon fried tomatoes and pimento cheese. Bacon was very good. Tomatoes disappointing, and skimpy. And finally, if I'm giving you $10.50 for a sandwich and some slaw, don't nickle and dime me by charging an extra $1. for a tablespoon of pickled jalapenoes.

Food was excellent. Generous portions. Nice atmosphere. Live musician on Saturday evening.

My wife and I visited The Fatted Calf 3 times this year. Once for brunch and twice for breakfast. I've worked in fine dining for better than half of my life. This place is truly a gem. Service is blindingly fast. Courteous and gracious hostesses, servers, cooks, and bartenders. And the food is incredible! on a scale from one to five stars, I give The Fatted Calf a 7. One of our favorite "icings on the cake" extras was the home made strawberry jam to go with our breakfast toast. Flawless! You won't be disappointed! Go get an omelette! Special thanks to our server Andrew and the whole staff! Awesome job!

Small place, great food! We started with the blue crab dip and it was amazing! Chicken fried steak and reddish for entrees BOTH were dynamite! The sauce could've been a little spicier with the redfish dish, but that's just my opinion. Killer butterscotch pudding yo!!!!

Great atmosphere with even better food! The fried chicken was amazing! Bloody mary was just ok but other drinks on their menu looked great going to other tables.

Previously had good experience. This time my wife's chicken was raw. The rest of the food was subpar. No comp or apology was offered for the raw dish. Very disappointed this time around.
