Fatted Calf Restaurant - Dallas TX Review

I didn't hate it and our service wasn't terrible, in fact they were great. But the food was horribly bland. Tuna was grossly watery and I didn't eat more than the first bite. The apricot chicken salad had no taste. Just the whole meal wasn't good. The garlic bread pieces they paired with it was not a match for what was on the plate. My friend ordered an omelette and said the same, it's just very bland. Kind of bummed bc we had been looking forward to trying this place and it just wasn't good.

Delicious food! There was somewhat of a wait for brunch on Saturday morning, which is to be expected. We walked around the Farmer's Market and through local shops, so it didn't seem to take as long. We ordered various brunch items, all of which were wonderful. Pancakes and omelettes were our favorite! Stop here for sure!

The Fatted Calf is always a great place for special events, Sunday lunch or a date night! Unique dishes made fresh to order.

Excellent breakfast! Not cheap but well worth the cost. The breads are homemade and the pancakes had a great flavor. Highly recommend.

This is one of my favorite local places to have dinner. However this past visit was TERRIBLE! We understand that due to the Pandemic many things are different but we try to support local/small businesses as they are having the toughest of times. Our food was awful, server was kind and management could care less. Masks are required to enter any establishment at this current moment, many people were standing around inside without masks on, while we were eating, and no one was asking them to mask up or get out. Why post the sign on the door if you are going to let everyone run through the restaurant and stand at the bar because they didn't want to or forgot a mast. Irresponsible management! Our food was terrible, sent one plate back as it was non-edible and the other plate was partially eaten. When finished the plate that was returned was on our bill and given that each plate was around $50 each, the management should have come to speak to us but they sent the server to do the dirty work (even though they didn't have the ability). Given the times I would expect every restaurant and server needs all the business they can get , however this restaurant does not care for the safety of their employees and customers. They were also very cowardly as there were not many tables and they didn't have the time to assist or speak to the customers!

I have only been once this past week but I will be going more often from now on!!! Amazing service!!!

We LOVE this place. I'm telling you right now, go all the time. Go for brunch. Go for dinner. Go all the time.

The restaurants atmosphere was promising and we were looking forward to breakfast. We ordered 2 bowls of fruit with out meal and they were both full of turning, if not completely rotten, pieces of fruit. When I asked the waitress to take it back and replace it with bacon, she gave me 1 small strip and gave my husband 2 extra sausage patties... The salsa I ordered tasted like it was fermenting and went bad as well.
Our waitress was not very attentive and it took us a while to get out check. The place got busy after we were settled in with our meal so it has to be good. We plan to try again for lunch one day. Maybe breakfast isn't their thing.

The food was fantastic. The spinach/mushroom omelet is delicious and worth the price as you get a biscuit (or choice of bread) and fruit or hash browns with it. Great, laid back place to enjoy Sunday brunch and, if for nothing else, It's worth visiting just for the fresh mozzarella. (We ordered an extra side of mozzarella to go. Yes, it's that good.)

Great food friendly waitresses, and nice atmosphere.

Yesterday was the first time we came to that magnificent restaurant. But It is obviously not the last time. We enjoyed the evening very much with the attentive service, with the first-rate cooking and booze and with the honest cost. We will absolutely go back there in a short time.

Food, service, and drinks were ok..dined for brunch closer to the end of service so the wait time wasn't too long. If your looking for a meal in a quaint town and don't mind spending a few bucks..give em a shot

We found this place a couple of years ago by just driving around and decided to go in. It was wonderful, the ambiance was great, and the food was divine. We decided to make this the destination for our 5th anniversary, and our experience was heightened with the best surprise ever: a proposal. We will certainly be back!

Great drinks! Also had the Juevos Rancheros. Very good. Honestly had no clue Rockwall had a brunch scene. #makebrunchgreatagain

Such an awesome little gem in a cute little town. If you find yourself in Rockwall, do yourself a favor and go here. Their brunch is spectacular, especially the chicken and waffles and mint strawberry mimosas Mmmmm...

Bad service our bread server threw bread basket at our table being our first time there we were willing to give a chance . If your not a regular you will not be welcome thats the impression we got. Our waitress didn't offer us refills or check back with us wouldn't make eye contact . Maybe you have better luck I won't be back.

Nice environment, great service but the Texas Catfish is definitely not their specialty, it was dry along with the peas that come with it.

The food is always on point and the bar drinks are perfect. Favorite place in rockwall. Chef knows how to cook. Must try!!!

I had been to this restaurant 3 times for breakfast in the past, it was great. I brought out of town guests for dinner thinking this would be a good restaurant to take them. I regret the decision. The food was mediocre. I wouldn't be back for dinner and not sure about breakfast.

We usually visit this place after we go to the Rockwall Farmers Market on Saturdays to have breakfast. The place is always bustling with people, but never too crowded. We have tried most of their breakfast items and enjoyed them all. It's not the cheapest place to have breakfast, but if you're looking for a nice place to have a very leisurely and enjoyable weekend breakfast you will love it.

Outstanding service and lunch. I had the Reuben. Yummy! Hubby raved about his Eggs & Sausage Benedict. We will be back.

They offer a nice variety of delicious food. I enjoy dining here. Employees are always very nice, rates are fair and the place is always neat.

My husband and I visited the Fatted Calf during brunch on a Tuesday. Our waitress was nice. The food was good. My husband received a glass of water with dried egg on the side of it, but the waitress gladly brought him water in a clean glass. We both really liked the bacon! We will visit this place again because there are many things on the menu that we'd like to try.

Service was great. Prime Rib was great.
Chicken Fried steak with Pablano gravy was great.
We enjoyed our family dinner.

Good food. Heard great things online before going. was gonna give 4 stars for tasty food at a somewhat reasonable price, but the young waiter didn't know what he was doing and service in general was very slow and mediocre. Not rude or anything. He was very nice, just needed more training, which, no one was doing during a busy shift.

Nothing overly wrong with the place, it was just not a good value. Two steaks, four beers and some calamari was $134 plus tip. I've had a lot cheaper that was a lot better. The calamari was great but the steak was lacking flavor and the mashed potatoes were watered down. The broccoli was just average steamed broccoli. The atmosphere inside didn't warrant the prices either.

On our list to do again when we return to visit Rockwall.

I thought it was going to be rough, as it took someone 8 mins to greet us and offer drinks. But once we got past that, service was amazing, and food was delicious

This little Jewel of a restaurant is my favorite breakfast place ever, I'll make the 3 hour drive just to get some of there homemade strawberry preserve. Make sure y'all try it.

I love to eat at Fatted Calf, the food is really good, but being that we are in the mist of a pandemic all but ONE of the waiters and waitress were wearing their masks all wrong, their nose was not covered or it was hanging on their chins as well as they all were constantly touching their mask, pulling them down to talk. So much that I saw. It was a breakout ready to happen. If the manager reads this post I hope that he makes his staff more aware of what's going on today and their safety and their families and customers. This is given with good intentions.

Quaint breakfast restaurant. Food was decent and the service was good.

Called in 15 mins before getting here at 10:15 am was told it was slow and not busy no need for reservations when I arrived was told I had a 30 min wait

Nice atmosphere. Classic Texas feel. Nice little bar towards the back of the restaurant. Nice to be here when it is half full or less as the noise level becomes rather high when the restaurant is over half full. I order a $49 22 oz. Austin T-Bone to share with my wife. I hope it is good. Update: the Austin T-Bone was 5 star. The noise level is also 5 stars.

Food very good. Our waitress was nice but it took a long time to get the food.

You really want a good rating for this place, especially since the food was good. We placed a reservation for Mothers Day but upon arriving, we clearly were an afterthought. Not enough room for our party and they ended up seating us at the very front of the restaurant. We had to adjust our chairs and move every time the next party was seated. The server was inexperienced and inattentive. When the feedback was shared with the manager, he proceeded to argue with me. It's clear they have an opportunity with service and leadership. We will not be going back.

It did not live up to the quality of food as I was expecting. The rib eye steak tasted and looked exactly like a New York strip, so I am not sure I really got what I had asked for. The fish was ok, but nothing special. The appetizer, bbq shrimp was quite good however. Anyway, the experience was not grest, especially at the prices they demand.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Rockwall! Delicious food, good wine in large glasses. Consistently good service, and there is usually live music. Servings are huge, everything is very fresh and well prepared. But when the bill arrives, be ready to pay for what you get.

The strawberry jam is to die for! The chicken and waffles are also probably the best I've ever had. Service is always great and food comes quickly.

Could of been 5 stars, but the sticky bun they served us was rock hard and under-topped . We expected warm ooey gooey melt in your mouth sticky buns loaded with the pecan syrup.

First time eating here and can't wait to come back.

Pepper Mary instead of a Bloody Mary... service was slowest ever. Food was not great either... was expecting much more for the price. Could have been an exception.

Great Chicken Fried Steak! Loved the casual atmosphere.

Waited almost an hr, was told it was 30 mins for 2.
It was irritating to watch, the inefficient placement of customers. We were seated at table that was empty after 10 mins, then we saw that there were at least 5 tables empty while people waited. Our server was nice, food was good. Not worth an hour wait for me, will not be back.

Wait staff was nice, food was decent. Was super dead on a Sunday night and the wait at the place down the road was an hour so we came here. As my nephew said these biscuits taste like the ones at my school . 3 stars though because gnats we re all over near where we sat at the back towards the kitchen, and the food is pretty so so considering the high price (80% is over $20).

Server had no knowledge of the menu. Slow service. Overpriced. Good desert options. They screwed up our orders.

Don't waste your money. The food is very over-priced and it is not good enough to justify the high price. I ordered the chicken fried steak. It was okay (not as good as Joe Willy's Market Grill but okay). They didn't give me much gravy so I ask for more. The waiter told me that he'd have to charge me for an extra side. Yep!!! That's right. They wanted to charge me for extra gravy. This place was a HUGE disappointment.

Always outstanding food and service. A five star meal at a three star price. Fabulous!

Fun atmosphere and friendly service. The bar is pretty decent too with a small selection of some local brewery's. Parking can be a challenge but it's worth the effort.

First time customer. Service was outstanding. Crab dip was delicious. Had chicken fried steak. Very good. Highly recommend.

I had seen this place for the longest time and finally tried it. The setting is cozy and the food delicious. I had catfish which I normally don't like...it was perfect. Light, fluffy and lightly breaded. I want to return with my husband for brunch and drinks. This is a place I would take out of town guests.

Breakfast omelet was fantastic, bread fresh from bakery, jelly homemade, I'm glad I stopped here! Service from Angel was 10++

Excellent breakfast fare. The hosting system seems to have a few hang ups as you never know on which day they accept call aheads and not "reservations" or visa versa. But go eat breakfast.
