Fatted Calf Restaurant - Dallas TX Review

We were sadly disappointed. Been looking forward to coming here. We will not be back. My daughter had the pancakes and hash browns. They were horrible. The hashbrowns were full of oil and the oil tasted stale/ruined, like it had been sitting out for a day or two after cooking meat in it. The pancakes were rubbery and had the distinct oil flavor as well. All we could smell was the oil. Very weird!
I had the chicken and waffles. For $14 I expected WAY more than what I got. They looked amazing, but it was all LOOKS! The chicken was bland. The poblano gravy was watery and made the rubbery bland waffles very soggy. The only thing I was pleased with was the bacon on top. The bacon was thick, crisp and delicious!
We left wondering why people are actually eating here. I hope they revamp their chef and their menu. They could have so much potential in this area.

Waited 45 minutes for food. 2nd time there. 1st time was superb. 2nd time not so much. However mgr gave 20% off bill for long wait. I won't get the dish I ordered again. "The Alamo" sausage was burned around the edges and I had to ask for more gravy. Will say mgr was out cleaning tables so maybe it was an off day for the resturante. I will return because the atmosphere is Pure Texas

Great food, need a better selection for brunch potatos. It's either mashed potatos or hashbrowns. May some grilled red potato would be nice.

The food is good. Just wish they didn't make so many mistakes.

Great food and Sunday brunch. We tailgated before the Dallas game this morning. Drinks were perfect, food was as expected. The only suggestion I could make is based on how busy this eatery was at 930 am, and taking into consideration they have a sign that they are hiring experienced wait staff..... Put a manager on the floor to help with service. Also, my friend almost ordered a side of hash browns for their brunch not knowing they get them with their order. Fix the menu to show that. But meal was awesome, for 4 people, tailgating before the Cowboys game, we spent 170 dollars, including a 20 percent tip, and had a great time.

My first time here and it was wonderful! The food was delicious and the staff was really nice and knowledgeable of the menu. Went for dinner and will definitely be making a trip back!

1st visit there. The food was delicious. The homemade jams was famoninal. Then We all went to the farmer's market. Gr8 time with family.

My little family are currently sitting in a booth at the Fatted Calf & I must say they treated us like royalty! As people of color (in downtown Rockwall), I was apprehensive to go inside, but Chef Ted himself gave my two little girls Sundays and even came by to offer us more rolls & apologize for the delay. Love the food and great cocktails from the bar. BLT salad is amazing and the chicken sandwich from the lunch menu is just as amazing and delish! Always friendly staff and great ambience.

A great dining option on the old Rockwall downtown square. Great food and a place to unwind for awhile.

Efficiently run...both in the kitchen and the dining area! Young wait staff have the place running like a clock!

Very good food! Great atmosphere. Strawberry jam is a real treat. I will be back to try more than just breakfast. When we arrived four families ahead of us. They told us the wait is 15 to 20 minutes so I went to the restroom to wash my hands and on my way i counted 7 empty, clean and set tables. I waited in line for the restroom and noticed later that this is what guest do here. Long wait for table, water, food, bill and restroom. Eat here if your not in a hurry and if you have time it is worth the wait.

We came in today at 10 am and were told it would be a 25 minute wait. They lost our reservation...not once, but twice!! We will spread the word to not go to this place. Poor customer service!!

Worth the wait! If you re going to brunch on a weekend, make a reservation - it fills up quickly! The food and drinks were both fantastic and reasonably priced. I had The Alamo and would highly recommend. The most popular drink is the bulldog, and for good reason. A great little spot in old Rockwall.

Food is always top notch. Service is always hit or miss.

Ashley was our waitress. It became clear that she intentionally ignored us. When were there for a simple breakfast. Eggs hashbrowns meat biscuit. The order came with gray however Ashley brought the gray 10 min before the order which made the gravy COLD. When we asked her about it that's when the ATTITUDE Escalated. She was constantly asking others if they needed anything but when we asked she left vanished. From this experience I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND GOING TO PAY FOR A MEAL AND WALKING OUT FRUSTRATED. THE ATMOSPHERE IS EITHER YOU ARE IN THE CLUB OR NOT.

Out of the 3 dishes we had only 1 was decent which was the salmon but everything is extremely overpriced for the mediocre food they are serving

Great food! Wanted to try something new. Had the chicken fried steak. The gravy was some of the best I ve ever had. And then there is this lemon cream pie- oh my! It has a texture between pie and cake with a custard base that is balanced by the cream and blueberries. Amazing!!

I died and went to heaven last night the best food I've ever eaten in my adult life the smoked chicken ravioli.

Deliciously fresh and a beautiful couple of appetizers. The customer service was great and the restaurant is very clean. Highly recommend the fatted calf to anyone.

Worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant. I had heard the food was good and had been wanting to try it for awhile. We decided to go for my Mother's Day breakfast. The website said the restaurant opens at 8am so we arrived at 8:20 to find out they were not opening the doors until 9am. Many others showed up also expecting the restaurant to open at 8am. A huge crowd formed outside the restaurant and no one comes out to apologize or explain the reason for the opening time change and they don't offer to start seating anyone even just a few minutes early even though people had been standing outside for an hour.

It is mad chaos when they open the doors as everyone is trying to get in to get a table. When we finally make it to the hostess stand we find out they are only serving a Mother's Day buffet and the regular menu is not available. With a buffet comes more $$$ so I was furious to find out that they did not explain this on the website or for the hour that we were standing outside. When I shared my disappointment that we have been standing outside for almost an hour and that the regular menu was not available with no communication from the restaurant the manager just looked down, would not look me in the eye, did not apologize and did not show any sympathy for the fact that I've spent my Mother's Day morning waiting outside for an hour to get into their restaurant which they should've clearly stated online that they were having a Mother's Day buffet and were not opening until 9 AM. This is a regular practice that restaurants do when they have a special menu and especially if they are opening later than their normal time.

I'm sure they have a great staff and great food and I feel bad for the employees who have to deal with the consequences of their poor management. We understand that these things happen, but for them not to apologize or express any sympathy is really a deal breaker. There are a lot of restaurants with good food, but if you don't have customer service down I'm not going to waste my time or money.

Don't waste your money with this restaurant that has horrible customer service, rude and unsympathetic people especially on a special day like Mother's Day. Worst management I've ever seen.

Here's a little tip, The Fatted Calf - updating your website and posting a sign on your door with the changes would have saved you a huge headache. Pretty simple!

Love this place...best food and full bar. I highly recommend the spinach mushroom omelette.

Not sure what the hype this place has, been here for a Father's Day, brunch, lunch, and now dinner. Every time I go they are running out of glass ware, or room, and it's always too warm inside. The service makes up for it, but the food is horribly generic, never had anything there that made me go wow.

5/10 take it or leave it.

Had a very good experience here with my kids. The food arrives quick and the service is just good. Prices are reasonable.

This place is hit-or-miss. Some days the service is fine and the food is fine. Other days, the service is lacking and they take way too long to get food out to the tables. Because there really isn't any where else to get a good breakfast or brunch in town, they've been able to live through the rough times. They seem to be getting better.

Great whiskey bbq burger. Wife really liked the honey fried chicken. Looking forward to their chicken fried steak next time.

They have the best biscuits and strawberry jam in town. Also prime rib on the weekends.

It's best known for its daily brunch served until 2:00 pm but they also serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. Quality made from scratch food. Even the toast and preserves were both homemade. I had the special, Nashville Chicken, which was excellent. The only negative was the coleslaw. It wasn't bad but a little bland. Service was good. There's also a full bar. I may need to try their Bloody Mary my next trip.

Great food, the drink menu is pretty good, the desserts changed a little and the customers weren't made aware of this so it led to bit of confusion

Too expensive for my taste. Too loud. Couldn't hear what the waitress was saying because of the noise. One cup of coffee $3.00. Plain waffle, $7.00, no flavor and too doughy.

This should not be rated with 2 $ symboly. It it quite expensive it should at least have 3 $ symbols. Im not complaining but it is rather expensive. Food is good drinks are good help is good. Its a nice place to eat. But be prepared to spend at least 50$ for two people to eat and have one drink a piece. Spendy.

Ended up at this place and was glad it happened. They were open on a Monday and it was just our luck. We got in, waitress was so nice and we got our food fast. Everything was DELICIOUS!! Will definitely be returning here.

The food is great but the service is so slow. You wait for a table for 30 minutes but they have 3 or 4 open tables at any given time. Someone needs to manage the chaos here.

The fruit cup was brown and disgusting. Jelly jar is unsanitary. The service was fine, but my daughter said her omelet was tasteless. My over medium eggs were undercooked. Will not return.

Excellent atmosphere and food and the prices were very reasonable. I enjoyed our trip to The Fatted Calf a lot.

The menu is pricey. 4 of us ate for roughly 80 for breakfast. 6 dollars for two cups of tea. The chicken and waffles were okay. The yardbird sandwich was good. The breakfast burger was fantastic. Fried green tomatoes were great!Staff was friendly. Very clean establishment.

Very delicious! I enjoyed my experience here! I came with my family for brunch, and had a great experience! It is a busy restaurant, but the wait was worth it! Highly reccomend for breakfast or brunch.

I hear wonderful things about this place so took my g'son to brunch for his b'day today. The sweet t tea was pure syrup and ruined the taste of everything. The food was not warm and toast was cold. For a $10 breakfast, not impressed.

Really terrible. Poor service, long wait for food, nothing cooked the way we requested, and on top of everything else, the staff didn't seem to care. Suffice to say, we won't be going back - ever!

We ordered the Easter lunch special of Prime rib with sides and it was delicious. The best flavored prime rib I ve ever had. Thank you for making our Easter meal so special during this crazy time.
