Really cool museum of all things music in the heart of Seattle! A must see for music lovers!
Really cool museum of all things music in the heart of Seattle! A must see for music lovers!
It was a cool museum. We really enjoyed the movie portion. It was a little off that the two parts are connected but you had to walk outside to get to the different parts.
I loved the horror and the prince exhibits! Super cool. Definitely worth the visit!
Wonderful and eclectic museum. Some truly unique exhibits that were well presented.
Spent 5 hrs there and it wasn't enough. Wonderful exhibits.
Lots of very cool exhibits. We bring the kids and easily spend the entire day here. Could spend a whole day going from one "recording room" to another where they have different instrument setups. Even has fairly good prices at their restaurant with good food.
As a huge music fan, this is definitely my favorite part of visiting Seattle. When I last went there, there was a fantastic Nirvana exhibit. When I've visited, I also checked out the other parts of the museum dedicated to the fantasy and science fiction genres.
Thoroughly enjoyed this museum. It has a really neat set up and enjoyed walking through each exhibit since they were each crafted to be unique to their genre. The extra Marvel exhibit on the 3rd floor was worth the extra cost. The only downside was they had the Star Trek exhibit closed that day which was sad for this Star Trek fan.
Awesome little museum of horror and scifi. Not a fan, but tremendous Pear Jam display that takes up a whole level.
From the music, indie game devs to film and TV the EMP is unlike any museum I've ever visited. It's engaging and fun for the whole family.
This place was better then I had imagined, I can't wait to take my daughter
Fun experience for us adults, was like a walk through our childhood. For the kids they did not enjoy as much, other than the Marvel experience.
This museum has a decent overview of all things popular today. Even if you feel that you are not too involved in the pop culture, you will likely find something you connect with here anyway. Just don t expect it to go into details or anything granular. There are also a few interactive areas here including the sound section and the game section.
The Star Wars exhibit is just awesome. You can easily spend most of the day just going around and enjoying the exhibits. One other exhibit I especially enjoyed was the one featuring fantasy characters and lands.
Love this place. Very interesting and fun museum. A Seattle icon built by a Seattle legend
Not sure what I expected with this museum. But I was way underwhelmed. Glad it was part of a CityPass. If I d spent $30 to enter, unhappy I would be. Maybe it someone else s cup of tea, but not mine.
Loved my experience here. I'm a horror geek, matched only by my love of sci-fi. I couldn't get enough. Sadly I didn't have as much time as I wanted, or needed, to experience everything. I don't think an entire day would have been enough. The short video interviews in the horror exhibit were awesome and informative. Finding out that Eli Roth was the curator made perfect sense. Who else could bring the passion required to put together such a collection? The Star Trek exhibit was...indescribable? I've watched every episode of ST:TNG, DS9, Voyager, and Enterprise. Seeing the props and sets and costumes was cool enough by itself, but the displays about the history and influence and real world involvement that Star Trek has been a part of was truly inspiring. I felt like a wonderstruck child again (to be fair I feel childlike most days anyway) going to my first amusement park. Sensory overload in the best way.
My only complaint, and honestly it was more than a bit disappointing, was the Indie Game exhibit. I stood patiently by, waiting my turn, and excitedly sat down to play 75% of the available titles. Of those I attempted to play, only about 30% were in working order. Error screen followed error screen. Keyboards and mouses required to play a title were nowhere to be found. Glitches abounded. As my excitement waned and my frustration mounted, I began to notice the continuing looks of confusion in the faces of the other gamers that I knew must have mirrored my own. In the good hour + I invested into that torture room I saw not a single employee or volunteer. No one to offer fixes, or even explanations. I left feeling let down, and oddly enough kind of lied to. Since that was my last exhibit I left the MoPop with a sour taste in my mouth.
I'm torn between giving this 3 or 4 stars. I want to give it 5 but can not bring myself to do so. While there was so much wonder and geekiness offered up for my enjoyment, an entire broken exhibit is really not something I can ignore. Sadly I'm giving this 3 stars. For what it cost to drive from Bellingham and cover 2 admissions this one (and honestly only) complaint prevents me from rating it higher. I am under no illusion that my rating will have an impact, and other than possibly preventing future visitors from experiencing the same disappointment, I wouldn't want it to. So much about this place was truly amazing.
One of the coolest and most interactive museums. The majority of the exhibits are for pop culture in the 70s/80s so for younger audiences the references are going to feel dated.
An amazing day out for fans of...well, everything! Something there for everyone. The horror and sci-fi areas in the basement are unbelievable, so well displayed. I wasn't fussed by the Pearl Jam & Nirvana stuff but I'm sure if that's your thing, it would blow you away
Super fun place to go, although pricey. The horror exhibit is quite possibly the most fun. Jeepers creepers was my favorite statue thingy. It's a little dark and a bit freaky at first, so it might be scary young children. The Wolfgang Puck restaurant had great burger and fries.
Super cool! Lots of stuff to look at and touch. I forgot my backpack in one of the exhibits and customer service kept it for me until I claimed it. Super honest!
I found it more a museum of music than pop culture, but in general it is a good place to meet.
Buy your tickets online to save money. Definitely worth the money. Expect to spend 2-3 hours here.
A lot of interactive elements. Do not miss the aditional SciFi parts
Very fun and friendly staff. Good mix of history and entertainment.
My wife and I visited this wonderful museum in the spring of 2015. There are great exhibits that take me down memory lane and give me something to talk about with friends looking for places to go and see. Icons as far as the eye can see. This place screams "Growing up in the '80s and '90s". I will definitely come back to this museum if I ever get the opportunity.
Excellent exhibits, perfectly condensed with the best items of each topic. Short enough to see everything and have time left in the day for more, or if your a sign reader you can easily spend an entire day. HIGHLY recommend the City Pass since this shares the same city block with the Glass Museum and the Needle. All of which you can knock out in a day.
Quick disclaimer: As far as time it takes to see everything I was here at the end of May which is not the peak season, so lines were short.
Amazing! I've visited the Museum of Pop Culture twice now, and it was pretty amazing each time. From the usual science fiction, horror, and fantasy genre displays, to the special feature exhibitions which bring something fresh and new. It's well worth the year long pass.
This year they have the Marvel exhibition which was not only something special to see, but it was also interesting as a lot of character and comic history was included throughout the exhibition.
A visit to this museum requires the entire day, so go early. They have a free coat check in on the ground floor, so I suggest buying your tickets there, leaving your coat, and plan out your route. There's a restaurant downstairs bso you can take a drinks/lunch break. The service here is sssllllooooowwww, so don't stop there if you have limited time.
Final verdict is I'll definitely go again if they have a new exhibition the next time I'm in Seattle!
Great building, everytime I'm in Seattle Happen to get there when they are closed, but still a great location to explore.
This is a place you absolutely need to stop at it you are in seattle. The exhibits are so interesting and nothing like I've seen in any other museum. Very unique, and any nerds dream :)
The best museum I have been to. It's like an adult childrens museum with interactive exhibits for the entire family.
Amazing place to learn about the pop culture and what shaped our modern Life.
Seattle is a modern and cosmopolitan city for spaces like this.
I found most of the exhibits to be mildly interesting at best. The outside of the building is much cooler than the exhibits inside.
Frank Gehry's Music Experience building is a work of modern art in itself much less the collections within it. It's formed metal panels harmoniously wrap the site in different colors to really set the tone of what's to come. As an avid Architect, making the trip to this site is well worth it alone. It's close to the Space Needle, so what are you waiting for?
Such a fun visit! All the exhibits were very interesting and interactive - admission is a bit steep, though
A Beautiful Experience! The exhibits were well put together and captivating! The staff was friendly, calm and overall Awesome! I loved seeing the Fantasy, Pearl Jam, Horror, and Science Fiction Exhibits on "FREE MUSEUM DAY"!
If you re in the area for the space needle or Chihuly garden, then you should definitely check this place out. They have a Minecraft exhibit that is not included with the CityPass admission, but it s only an additional $6 more. I recommend going in if you have kids. Great place to spend 2-3 hours.
I'm so glad I brought my family here. It kept all of our attentions!
Super cool. Interactive. Fun for adults and teens. Worth the admission.
We all loved this museum, elementary kid, middle schooler and adults!
Sensual architecture, a formal and unconventional exhibition. Recommended by locals
I still call it the EMP!!! Great place to see memorabilia from Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Jimmy Hendrix and more music greats from the area along with a great collection of guitars and also Sci Fi movie memorabilia!! Now there's gaming and fantasy exhibits and hands on recording studio exhibits as well! Fun for the whole fam! Free entry if you have an EBT card!!!!
Crowded. Marvel exhibit was neat, but with not a lot of other exhibit rotation, it seems like a wasted trip from Vancouver.
A bit expensive but hadn't been in 10+ years and didn't realize how much it had expanded. Very fun day trip with family.
Loved the genre exhibits! Fantasy and scifi and horror, all absolutely wonderful! The indie game exhibit was fun too, although every game was squatted upon. The Nirvana exhibit made me cry. :-( It was really well-curated.
Lots of great things to see lots of history cool instruments to play it's for everyone even if u dont pay just to walk around an see...
Lots of great pieces. Worth the time and not over priced.
This is a really cool place with great exhibits housed in a unique building. We enjoyed a slower hour so we were able to take our time.
Awesome music museum with lots of things to do for children and adults alike. Currently running a special Star Trek exhibition. Lots of cool things to see - guitar exhibition, Nirvana, horror movies exhibition etc. Lots of fun. Very close to the Space Needle and the Chihuly Gardens. Strongly recommend it.
Didn't have time (or money) to see the Marvel exhibit but the Nirvana exhibit alone is worth stopping by here - incredible collection
Awesome space with very cool exhibits. Fantasyland was my favorite of all of them.
Very interactive museum. Good for those that don't like to stand still and read. I highly recommend the science fiction exhibits if you're into sci-fi movies or the horror exhibit if you like scary films. Otherwise, for a limited time, go see the indie game revolution exhibit and don't forget to go upstairs to play some instruments for fun. It's always a blast!
Allow plenty of time. This place has everything from a Terminator ekoskeleton to Bert and Ernie puppets. A great way to spend your day.
Very interactive, amazing, helps you relive your music dreams.
Great museum and a great take on what museums can be. The approach to music and pop culture is both reverent and approachable. An upgraded approach to museums with a tone that satisfies multiple generations. Cant wait to visit again.
Amazing place to take kids. The Minecraft exhibit is a little underwhelming, there are lots of stations for kids to play Minecraft. The music section has tons of real instruments for play, with mixing rooms, studios as well. This is hands down one of the best museum to take kids to in Seattle.
One of my favorite places of all time. All of the exhibits are wonderful and informative.
My wife and I were here last weekend and had a great time! Will be back soon enjoying the new area!
Overpriced and not much to see you unless you're a fan of a particular display
I'm a Seattlelite who's been here 5 years.
I was psyched about this being my first visit, and even more psyched because I was going with a guest from California to see the music icon of my youth: Prince exhibit!
As with most touristy things to do, this was extremely overrated. As far as Prince memorabilia specifically, a general google search would have brought up much more to view. They had a "replica" of Prince's motorcycle there to take pics on...People were excited over that. Thankfully there wasn't a crowd -went on Tuesday afternoon.
I was a bit embarrassed we wasted a few hours there given how there is SO much to do and see in Seattle.
As far other events at MOP ...no idea. I won't be in a hurry to spend money there again. The Prince exhibit was my top priority on bucket list.
