We welcomed our newest tribe member into the outside world this past Tuesday morning. We wanted to share a little bit of her beautiful birth story with everyone.
"She was my fierce little warrior in the womb, gently and not so gently reminding me of her sweet existence for 9 months. I always felt that hers would be an amazing and unique birth story but until a week ago, I didn't know just how amazing and opposite "my plans" that would be. A week ago, we received unfortunate news from our latest ultrasound that my placenta previa diagnosis, from early on in the pregnancy, had not resolved itself and that we no longer were able to have our planned 2nd homebirth. To really test our strength and shake our foundations, our diagnosis was that she would need to be delivered via cesearan section and within the next 2 weeks to avoid a truly scary medical emergency. The diagnosis initially crushed me - I cried, I got angry, I felt a victim .... but then I allowed acceptance and strength to enter and our family bravely stepped out onto this new path, determined to make it a wonderful experience. I researched, I asked lots of questions, I leaned on friends in the birth field, I pushed for holistically-minded practices and found an amazing practice and hospital to have my wonderful surgery. I can't thank the doctors, nurses and staff enough at Lutheran Medical Center in Denver, CO, for supporting my family and me with a family-centered, gentle cesearan section delivery to welcome our surprise baby girl. I truly feel that my cesarean delivery couldn't have been more "natural" and holistic-based. I was so at peace and so centered. Surrounded by my family and people, who had just met me within days/hours of the surgery, my favorite music in the background, mood lighting set to romance, a perfect view of the entire delivery unfolding just inches below my chest - I witnessed Her amazing birth story."
Baby M. and mama are doing amazing - recovering and pouring love into one another. Special shout outs to the Labor and Delivery OR team of Dr. Crawford, Midwife Maureen, Nurse Jesse, Anesthesiologist Dr. S, and Iris. Mom and Baby Staff, Nurse Shelley, Nurse Vickie, Nurse Sommer, and Nurse Chelsie. And to all the supprt staff from lactation to housekeeping to room service to the women's care and pediatric docs.
Much love and light!
