Outdated, restrictive and out of touch. Their customer service is good and they have developed some really incredible products, but much of their software is falling behind the times. Their business model (credit based system for software use) is horribly limiting, making much of their software attainable and user friendly only at the organizational level. The installation and licensing procedures for their software is very difficult to maneuver, plus their website is confusing and poorly designed. Even though ESRI is still the gold standard for GIS software, given their invasive DRM I'm inclined to steer away from their products in favor of more open source mapping.

The product is great. However, ESRI has quite possibly the worst customer service of any company I deal with. Yes - worse than Comcast. It's like trying to talk to the government, but at least the government has native English speaking people and eventually answers the phone. It's a little frustrating purchasing a product that costs thousands of dollars, but not able to use it because of incompetent or non-existent customer service.

Truly fantastic and comprehensive suite of GIS software. The niche and open source programs serve their purpose but Esri has really covered all the bases with the 10.x platform. Keep up the good work.
