Excellent sculpture by Michelangelo. Pure perfection. Located in the museum of the academy. Although there is a replica in the Palacio Vechio. Without a doubt perfection wherever you look. It is elevated, difficult to assess it completely, but at the same time it allows you to see it despite the large number of people who visit it.

Awe inspiring! Please pay attention to David's expression. It is moments before the face off with goliath. Note the sling on David's shoulder and stone in his hand. Michelangelo was talented and inspired!

You truly cannot understand and appreciate the majesty, magnificence, and perfection of this sculpture, unless you are standing humbly at its feet. It is in every sense of the word, a masterpiece, a work of astounding beauty and incredible attention to detail. I was quite unprepared for it's magnitude. It is Colossal. When I rounded the corner and got my first glimpse of him, it was literally, jaw-dropping and breathtaking. By the time I got to the plinth, he looked not only like a young man with a sling, but also the King that he would become, almost God-like. I could well see him composing, "Hallelujah". I also found it amazing that Michelangelo had brought him forth from a piece of marble that two other sculptors had worked with and deemed too difficult to carve. I believe he proved them wrong. Waiting in line and paying the price of admission at the Galleria dell'Academia is, in my opinion, worth it, just to see this work. I have seen reproductions of it in several places, but there is no comparison between them and the original. None at all.

Magnificent!!

Magnificent!!
I still wonder how Michelangelo managed to create this masterpiece with a mallet and chisel

I could not see the original due to inappropriate information. On the internet they reported that for today there were no more tickets and that their price rose from 16 euros. Two ladies did not believe, they went, bought their unreserved tickets for 8 euros and enjoyed it. Good for them !!!

His hands are weirdly too big for his body. Otherwise, a really cool statue! I like the carvings of the half finished Michaelangelo more, because you can see the work in progress. David is HUGE and I can only imagine how much time it took to carve him from that marble.

Nice museum. At this moment with Covid there are 2 lines, one with and one without reservations. We had reservations at 9:15, present at 9:05, and we were able to enter at 9:45. So even with reservations there is some waiting time. Inside wasn't crowded.

All other sculptures pale in comparison to the David. Listen to Rick Steve's free audio app about the Accademia before your visit for the best way to go through the museum. There are unfinished works by Michelangelo.

One of the world's most renowned masterpieces of the Renaissance and of course by Michelangelo, it is housed inside the Galleria dell Accademia, Florence. Perhaps not as well known as the Uffizi Museum, it is only a 14 minute walk away, so be sure to take in both. Highly advisable to buy your tickets ahead of time. We visited here a few years back with a prearranged guided tour group. Well worth the price in both occasions.

The Accademia Gallery removes from the open-air museum (which is the city of Florence) this prodigious symbol of Renaissance art. It is impossible to miss Michelangelo's David. A piece of Florentine is here, in Renaissance man, a symbol of beauty. See the David and fill yourself with wonder, beauty and grandeur. Absolutely not to be missed.
