We decided on the Cotobike Tour, which is possible on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and costs 50-55 US $.
You will be picked up by a bus and the group size is usually 10 people. After a 1 hour drive you reach a restaurant where breakfast is served. After another hour you reach the Cotopaxi National Park. From the parking lot you hike to the hut at 4860 meters and in good weather at 5000 meters. The view is amazing and you can see the mountain opposite. It is really worth it!
Then it goes 6 km down the road with mountain bikes. Unfortunately my mountain bike was too small and not good so I didn't have that much fun. :(
Our guide was nice and explained everything to us, but it was stupid that he sometimes went ahead without the group and stressed us out quickly. Maybe he wanted to quit early or something ...

Still it was worth doing the tour, I would recommend it!

Whilst unfortunately I made the decision to cancel my tours due to the political unrest in Quito this week (8/10/19) I can only commend Esteban at Ecuatraveling, who I have been emailing for almost a year on and off as to my plans and bookings. His customer service has been first class, always quick to respond, tours were reasonably priced and he was happy to assist quickly and with diligent response regarding the political situation. I wouldn't hesitate to book through Ecuatraveling if I come back to Quito again. Thanks for Everything Esteban and hopefully see Quito in future!

We went on the Cotopaxi day tour with Ecuatravelin...

We went on the Cotopaxi day tour with Ecuatraveling. We had an okay time. Here are the good and bad points:

Good points:
- The online team were very responsive. We were able to book the tour over email the day before and go the next morning.
- Both of our guides were amazing and we liked them very much.
- The lunch was nice and the staff in the restaurant were friendly.

Bad points:
- We arrived on time at 7AM at Magic Bean but no one came to pick us up. We tried to message and call the number we were given at 7:10 but no one answered. We text the other number from the website and got an answer. Eventually after us chasing for 15 minutes, someone came to pick us up at 7:22. We were dropped off to another mini bus which makes me think it maybe doesn't matter which tour provider you book with - you're all just lumped together.
- Breakfast seemed very unnecessary and it took a long time to wait for the group to eat. We'd prefer to not have breakfast in the itinerary and go straight to Cotopaxi (either leave later or get there earlier). Breakfast was average.
- There didn't feel any need to visit the same restaurant twice (breakfast and later lunch). The staff was nice and food was nice enough, but I don't think anyone really wants to stop and eat in a small cafeteria at the side of the main road, and certainly not two times.
- Unfortunately the weather wasn't good for us, so we could not hike to the glacier, only the refuge. The weather isn't in their control of course but it felt like we didn't get to do very much on the tour because of this. There was no alternative option to fill this time for the missed activity.
- On the bus, we were told we shouldn't mountain bike if we had no experience. Of the 11 people in the group, I think only 1 person had experience mountain biking. The website didn't indicate prior mountain biking experience was necessary so this seemed very unfair/unplanned and some of the group again chose to stay on the bus because of this and because of the weather (it was still raining and very cold). I biked half way but was so cold that I also got back on the bus and I wasn't used to cycling bumpy terrain despite being an experienced road/city cyclist. Again, it felt like an unfinished activity with no alternative. If no one in the group had mountain biking experience, was it not possible to either pre-warn this or choose a flatter part of the National Park to cycle in?
- It felt like we spent more time in the restaurant than doing activities to be honest!

We took the option of 4 days (cotopaxi, otavalo, quilotoa and mindo), they were very punctual with the schedules, they worried about the type of diet of each person on the tour (food allergies, vegetarian, vegan), the guides were very nice , with a lot of knowledge about what they were talking about. Very good experience.
