What a great place to bring the family! We rode the Polar Express, and the staff during the ride up and back were excellent. The show they put on was a lot of fun, and all the kids eyes lit up with excitement. Lots of soveniers to bring home! If you have enjoyed this book as a child, or have children of your own, it's a fun time. Might not be very appealing to older kids or teenagers, as it is tailored to a younger crowd.

Amazing ride! Discovered our beautiful Colorado. Steamy reminded me of childhood train rides. Staff is great: knowledgeable and helpful. Coach was better for us, warmer in May than the open carriage. Want to come back in fall for colors.

I ride the train every chance i get...it only gets better every year. I first rode the train in 1966 and I'm so glad that the train has been cared for and improved over the years. It truly is a treasure for The Four Corners. This is a lot of bang for your buck so I say go for it! Silverton is a wonderful destination on the other end...love The Brown Bear Cafe for lunch when you get to town for your 90 min of eating and shopping. You will see scenery that cannot be seen from any highway because there are no roads into this area. The gorgeous Animas River is with you all they way ...canyon views unmatched on any other trains I have ridden and fantastic rock formations and forests for great photo ops.

Beautiful scenic ride. Our train host was pleasant, helpful, and informative. Our train likely started a wildfire which, now, 10 days hence, is still burning, destroying thousands of acres. Trains are no longer operating.

Good thing: scenery is very good. On the edge of the cliff. Worth the trip. Staffs are friendly.
But one bad thing: the coal burning in the air during the train ride. Very bad for health. My nose and eyes and ears are full of coal particle. This will be worth if you have health issue. Seriously need to wear mask during this trip.

Our family comes to celebrate Christmas together and ride the Polar Express every year. There are now 17 of us. Mom and Dad make the family matching pajamas. You get slippers and pajamas in your Xmas sack along with a train ticket. It is awesome!!!!

This is a must! Unbelievable views from the train. I highly recommend you take the the shuttle to Silverton and then train ride back to Durango. Gives you three and a half hours of riding train which is plenty. Several people told me the round trip train ride was a little too much. We rode in the outside car and it was awesome. Our eyes were a little red for days from the soot from the train but it was worth it.

What a wonderful and beautiful experience! The mountain vistas along the Animas river are phenomenal! Hubs and I each took about 100 photos. We made our reservation at the train station 2 days in advance (during July) and the office staff were very friendly and helpful. We chose a car with a glass some ceiling and open sides -- it was spectacular for viewing. Be advised that the trip is about 3.5 hours one-way, so that can make for a very long day. We saw a number of people who rode the train to Silverton and returned on the bus (good for families with kids).

Pattii and I rode in the Silver Vista car and Elle was our guide and attendant. The train ride was impressive and constant beauty. Elle made it all the more fabulous with her quick wit, geological knowledge and great attitude. We will remember it always and hope to bring grandkids in the future. The Silver Vista offered full views of the magnificent mountains and we loved this car. We decided to ride it round trip and are so glad we did. Don t miss out on this experience.

Loved it. I've been waiting to see this since I was a kid. I'm so glad I finally made it. I even know the song by heart.
It was even better than I could have expected. Don't deprive yourself if a wonderful experience, come see "the beautiful daughter of the D&RG".
See the smoke and hear the whistle blow.

The young lady that plays Cora was very knowledgeable about the persons during that era of time in the 1800's. She was able to answer questions that the persons riding the train asked and even off the Record there was things as far as on the Rocks why they were Orange in circles and she explained all of that. She had a good personality and made everyone feel at home and several times she would walk up and down the aisle and make sure everyone was okay and was enjoying themselves. Young and old seem to really like listening to her and get all the information that was given to us. The trip was amazing and love frank the conductor. The town of Silverton was amazing and beautiful. Such colorful areas of beauty pointed out so many times

There's been some damage to the railroad lines so you cannot order tickets online but if you go to the station you can get them they're currently bussing you past the damage which takes about 20 minutes and then you get on the train so I'm glad we were still able to do it.
Also there's a cute little Bakery call Durango Bagel right near the train station that's open at 6:30 so you can actually come down Park and eat while you're waiting to get on the train.

This train museum was so interesting. Many of the exhibits are from long time enthusiasts and residents of Durango. It needs more support financially from visitors to maybe get air conditioning, and room for growth. I don't usually donate much, but this free museum really entertained me more than most "paid admission" museums. Thanks, Durango for your hospitality, and kudos to your firefighters on their hard work fighting the wildfires this season!

Beautiful train ride. Loved seeing the views from the open air gondola. The museum at the depot was also really nice. If you do opt for the open air car you will get soot on you, so bring sunglasses.
