For a beautifully decorated restaurant in Kings Cross, I have never been so disappointed.
Firstly, the staff here were extremely rude and unhelpful. After waiting at the door and being ignored by multiple staff I finally got the attention of a staff member. I was expecting an apology, but of course I didn't get one. The lady took us to our seats and was unwelcoming in doing so. I'd also like to point out that the menu online and the physical menu at the restaurant were totally different. I brought this up with a waitress and she was completely flummoxed with my concern. This was again no help.
When we were ready to order, there was not a waitress in sight and after having to wait 10 minutes, I got up myself to alert a waitress that we were ready to order. I found the waitress condescending and rude, she was unhelpful in explaining the different meals on the menu.
The food arrived fairly quickly. But as expected, my experience went down hill once again. I ordered Eggs Florentine, I found the muffin rubbery and the chips served tasted as if they were still frozen. The tea was cold, and the jar which the milk was served in looked dirty from the inside.
While eating, not a single waiter/waitress asked if the meal was good or if we were okay. Overall, the staff were totally unbothered and full of attitude.
I would hope that someone will take my review into deep consideration and revise how this restaurant is being run. This was a terrible and unexpected experience. I think some sort of refund should be considered for my horrid experience.
I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT TO ANYBODY!!
Book a table as it gets very busy. Good place to meet for drinks, also bar food
I was so chocked about the lack of service, already up on entering the establishment. From there on it just got worst and even worst. Average waiting time for anything was a minimum of 25 minutes. Staff at McDonald's counters are more service minded than any of the waiting staff we encountered. The failure is to long to write and I wouldn't want to honour this place with more of my time.
Good atmosphere good food god service and friendly staff
Company's Christmas lunch.
Appetizer was a piece of bread with salmon.....nothing else.
Steak was really chewy and the chips super oily and unseasoned.
Panna cotta was nice....
Highlight of lunch was the waiter's bum
Great Service - Fantastic brunch selection. Great ambiance - everything to love! Would definitely recommend a visit and will definitely be returning.
We went with the winter veg and grilled salmon from the brunch menu. Did not disappoint. Staff were very warm, attentive and accommodating.
Gorgeous deco specially downstairs! Great for groups! They also have lovely outdoor seating facing an indoor park. The cocktails are tasty and the brunch options are great! Nice veggie options as green bowls and falafel. It is on the higher price end. Delicious sweet potatoes fries
Child friendly and good selection of food, especially brunch.
Portions could be a little bigger
I love D&M for the great selection of cocktails and a menue that keeps bringing you back for more. The resturant area is designed for smart casual and the open kitchen makes it feel like home. If you are by yourself grab a tablr by the bar for dinner and catch up with the chefs. They look like they are up for it... Also you get to get the first hand smells of the wonderful food on offer.
Downstairs is where you get to drink and party with friend. The relaxed layout really lends itself for good group chats and when the dj starts playing it turns into a party. Try it for your next night out... You won't regret.
Unbearable noise and terrible service. Doesn't make for a return visit.
Terrible service, bad for kids and awful menu. Don t be fooled by the snazzy interior.
This is my 2nd time dinning at this restaurant. I thought I ll give it a second try.
Here are some things that were pretty alarming in reference to my statement above..
Our table was not set; even though we had booked. No wine glasses, no water glasses and barely enough cutlery for my party of 7. We are given a rather cramped dark space and had to fight for service every time a waiter walked past our table.
I ordered a jerk chicken, thinking I can t go wrong with this. I WRONG, and was presented with two pieces of oily salty chicken with what looked and tasted like grass salad on the side. It was certainly not seasoned or even remotely tasted of jerk.
I asked for a child s menu for my 5 year old and was told that I could order off the adult menu as no child menu existed. WRONG! We found a child menu after they delivered an adult portion of dry chicken and chips for my son.
There are so many better choices around Kings Cross, I don t suspect this chain will survive this area for much long; especially with the terrible service awful tasting menu and an attitude that appears unwilling to learn.
Fantastic place to meet and relax with a wonderful drink or coffee
very busy place, but has lot's of space on two floors. dancing allowed. food is good too
- They used to have board games on the corner table on the ground floor.. it is removed
- I used to come for the vanilla ice cream and hot brownie, It tastes different I am not sure what they have changed but I am not coming again for that.
Absolutely lovely place. Staff are excellent (particularly Katerina, one of the hostesses who was very polite and accommodating), food is excellent, and the atmosphere is lovely after work. I would particularly recommend the Pork Belly side dish.
10/10
Friendly and pleasant services. Drinks I had were standard. Good choice of wine.
Unwelcoming Young woman at the door; v slow to take order (10 minutes although place almost empty); food not bad but tiny portions (starter of tuna carpaccio gone in 2 bites).. place seems to need a kick up the arse from a hands on manager.
Very nice brunch place! Small quantities so taking 2 bfast dishes is a must but delicious products, beautiful setting and nice staff.
Waiter advised its best not to go on Sundays. Got that right unable to serve 6 people at same time.. 1 not served meal at all. Food is strange mixture of fresh and cooked from frozen ingredients.
Cute place. The people working there were really nice. I didn't like that we were sat at the bar even though I reserved a week in advance. Overall would go again
+Nice place and good location
- Slow to be served at the bar
A great place to meet friends for drinks, it is well spaced out over 2 floors and has a lively atmosphere. The location is awesome - the area around it has been completely redeveloped.
Great space and perfect for groups/birthday. The food is alright - the steak was ok for the price. The chips were severely average and tasted like poor pub chips and the mac&cheese was bland. Service was great though.
Great venue in Kings Cross for food, drinks or whatever :) I had the vegetarian salad which was different to what I usually see on menus for vegetarian salads, and it was delicious. The cocktails were all great. We ended up staying there for a good few hours and moved downstairs. We weren't rushed off our table booked for lunch once the two hours was up which was great.
Reasonably priced and friendly staff.
Hard to get service and hard to speak to the staff. Booked a space and communication was quite difficult, but nice venue all the same.
Lovely decor, plenty of space for social distancing but still feels comfortable and cozy.A very good selection of wine, tasty, unpretentious food and a very friendly service. It was my second visit and I will definitely be back again
really great and buzzy atmosphere within two minutes walk from the tube
Great decor, nice outdoor area, excellent service, good food and decent prices.
Well, what can I say, went for a drink there Wednesday evening. Guys you need staff behind your bar that care.
It took a good 4 minutes to be eknowledge, despite being alone waiting at the bar, it seems, the bar staff were more interested in their own conversation that the guest.
Once you do get attention, well I really felt not wanted, no smile no good evening, asked what gins they had, the response was go over there to look at the shelf!
i ordered some aloumi chips which took over 35 minutes to arrive. So we decided to go elsewhere.
No wonder it was quite.
Drake and Morgan you have an amazing looking space but you need to invest in staff.
Quite a low rating from others but I had a nice meal and drinks. I can't find anything wrong. All positive!
Terrible service.
After waiting for around 20 min at the bar to be served I asked for a non-alcoholic beer. The bartender said they don t have any and walked off ( although they did have 3 options on the menu). Didn t ask me if I want any other non alcoholic drink. So rude and discriminatory to non - alcohol drinkers. Please avoid!
Very nice and spacious with open kitchen. Me and my friend came for brunch. Staff are all very nice and friendly and take order very quick. I had fried chicken and waffle, my husband had omelette, my friends had avocado toast and full veggie. All nicely done. We enjoyed it. Definitely will come back.
We just enjoyed a delicious meal with friends here and were served by a really considerate and helpful waiter, Yoanny- who was really attentive and ensured we had everything we needed and made some of our hard requests possible. The food was stunning and very well priced and we felt well taken care of!
Not a place to visit on a holiday. Was waiting at the bar for 45mins and still no drink. Place is very fancy looking and has food and music. Was a couple of fights in the short time I was there but I put it down to drunken revelling.
Came to drake and morgan to celebrate nye with friends. 11.30pm we are told the bar is closed and no more drinks to be serverd despite the fact a tray of bottles of processco and glasses were all set up for staff and the DJ was still playing tunes like he wasnt stopping. I'm not saying they they shouldn't celebrate too but not one member of staff came round to inform customers that the bar will be closing nor the fact that just after 12 customers will be kicked out! Drinks we did have were nothing special and they didn't even have one of the most common spirits in stock at the bar! Such bad management from the manager on NYE when customers who were willing to spend money were not allowed to and were left disappointed. Just goes to show what type of person the manger is and for a venue in the catering and hospitality industry extremely bad for their reputation. Customers are the ones who keep your business running and your staff employed. Will not be recommending drake and morgan kings cross to anyone! Very slack!
First time visit for work's Christmas Party. Big venue, ground and below ground levels. Ground floor bar gets busy, on the day (24th Dec) only two staff serving drinks, so with a good number of firms holding similar bookings a slow drinks service was inevitable! Usual City prices for drinks, pleasant staff but questionable staffing. The party menu was ok, nothing special. Would have to make a 'normal' casual visit to get a broader perspective but would visit again.
I really like the downstairs area with bar and music. The bar staff could be more attentive though. Sometimes it takes a while to order a drink. Recommended to make a reservation beforehand as the place gets full pretty quick!!
Stylish bar and restaurant popular with the local single 30 set. Bit noisy for middle aged me. Great beers, cider and cocktails
I could also entitled this review the disappointment of London .
NEGATIVES:
POSITIVE ASPECTS:
Absolutely nice place. Nice interiors.
Kind staff as well.
I already hated places that somehow try to crave you money.. even more now for tap water!!
Great experience. Thanks Marcus and Amber were brilliant- the best!
While the food was very enjoyable, unfortunately; a collection of mistakes from the waiting staff means it s very unlikely I would recommend this restaurant to someone. After I very clearly informed our waitress of a very serious food allergy in had amongst the group it was not adhered to. The very opposite in fact. The dish was brought out WITH the offending food on it. We of course mentioned it straight away and the waitress blamed US!! Plates were being cleared while people were still eating. We confirmed our dessert choices having ordered and the wrong desserts were of course brought to us. The manager was very apologetic and compensated us with a bottle of Prosecco which was appreciated. Upon paying for the meal, we politely declined on paying the service charge which they duly noted and then attempted to charge us it anyway. The only thing missing from this meal was Basil Fawlty hitting Manuel with a spoon..!
The place is very modern and the food was great. I had the pork belly with aubergine and I was advised to order a side dish by the waiter. I added the sweet potato fries and ended up paying more than originally calculated. Not a reason to remove one star, but cannot remove half of it.
Good location (1 star for that). Overpriced and terrible food. Just go for drinks if you are around
Huge space. Not sure what it is like when busy but when it was a bit quieter it was quite enjoyable - downstairs was open despite the bar being closed. I didn't try the food but the cocktails we had were decent considering they weren't over-priced. Having eaten at another restaurant under the same group, I would have no issue eating here in future.
Fake flowers and rather noisy but otherwise not bad.
Good food and wine. Excellent service. London prices
Went with my wife and 2 daughters - lovely food and superb staff - really lovely meal
More if a bar than a restaurant. Foods decent but would only return for drinks
Had a fabulous meal on Saturday night. Cocktails were amazing and food was plentiful and delicious. Impeccable service too. Will definitely be returning.
Pretentious overrated Bar. Music as loud as possible, no real attention for guests.
Great cocktail courses, they have a private room to hire out for meetings/dinners/stag and hen nights. Good drinks, good times. Only thing that let's it down a bit is the food, not amazing. But after several great cocktails, you barely notice....
Nice selection of drinks. Christmas meal this year didn't have as much of a wow factor as previous year. More style over quantity (quality was good). A few people made a few jokes as some plates had uneven quantities of things like sprouts. It was mostly in good faith as I put effort into organising it. Booking system was good and really useful which I appreciated.
Starter and stake was cold and crumble had more crumble than fruits
Some of the all day breakfast was lukewarm/cold and to get very sweet syrup on a waffle with chicken was a (not so nice) surprise. Also got covered with some white hairs from a rug on the sofa...on a positive note everyone was very friendly and the toilets were superb.
If you are going there for food, be aware that the gluten-free items on their menu are not actually gluten free. Their bread supplier does not have a license to provide GF bread and it might be contaminated with gluten.
Even though when we booked we specified that there was a coeliac in the party, no attempt was made to contact us to tell us in the fortnight before hand that there might be an issue providing the items advertised on the menu.
We also specified in the reservation that we would require a highchair and one was not provided. They are running a volume business and don't seem to put much effort into individuated customer service.
My big group went for breakfast and the food was great! The smaller dishes need an extra like toast but others like the full breakfasts are very filling. My surprise was the gluten free toast which was scrumptious :-) A large and industrial style but very attractive venue.
Good Drake and Morgan restaurant like the others in the chain but be sure to book this one on a Saturday night. It gets busy quickly. We were turned away several times on the phone.
Nice venue that gets extremely busy in the hub of Kings Cross. Get there early and bag a space
Pitched up (unplanned) ~8pm on Saturday. No trouble getting a table. (Not sure this was the case when we left). Several parties looked to be in swing. Burgers were good (I might not have the shrimp one again though) and the three-way fries were perhaps a bit confusing, if better value for money.
This was my first visit to Drake & Morgan and it won t be my last. The cocktails and food are good value for price, plus with outdoor seating it provides a safer environment to eat and relax. Our waiter, Yoanny was especially helpful despite being the only staff serving in our section. He was very friendly and cheerful, which makes a big difference when eating at a restaurant. Also, Omari did an exceptional job making our cocktails. My only criticism is to have more staff serving during busy times. However my friend and I had a great time.
Really noisy. If you like trying to have a chat and being completely unable to hear yourselves, go there.
Firstly the layout of the place is great but sadly the music is so loud in there you can't hold a conversation without having to raise your voice.
The Mac Cheese was served up (small portion with chips that looked like they had not changed the oil from last year)
Waiters were friendly but slow off the mark.
Toilets need checked more too
Fast paced and sophisticated restaurant with a club vibe on a Friday night.
Huge open bar in the basement, great for large or small groups. Patio seating for drinkers who like a smoke with their drink. Let down by the music and amount of time it took to get a drink on a Thursday night
Great venue. Great location. Great food. Cute intimate bar and restaurant
Irresponsible to say this restaurant is dog friendly, especially in the evening. Although our dog was welcomed in the restaurant, the music and noise levels were more like a night club - far too high to let dogs in. They did agree to lower the music but the staff were not coordinated so one person would turn it down and someone else would put it back up again multiple times. Even during the day, I would imagine the noise levels from guests is very high as the space is large and sounds echoed.
When the food came out, two of our four meals were not what we d ordered. And worse, they weren t sure which of the two curries we d ordered was the vegetarian one (worrying - thankfully no meat consumed by mistake). We had a different waiter at every course so we were asked questions repeatedly. And at the end we were brought the wrong bill. None of us enjoyed the food
which I d give a 2/5 at best.
The one saving grace was the staff who were all very friendly and nice, but we d never go to this restaurant again - definitely not with a dog.
First time in this pub tonight (6/02/20). Has a good atmosphere and surroundings. For me personally, I found the bar staff to be unhelpful & disinterested when I asked for fruit cider. He said they had none, but later saw on their drinks menu 4 different ones available. I think the bar staff (male) could not be bothered to help me & was only interested in getting your money & taking the next order, even though my friend & I waited our turn. This was poor service. 2 stars are for decor & general vibe minus poor staff attitude. So you do sell fruit ciders after all, why say no! Lazy guy. I did not buy anything else after this! Also no WiFi & the data on phone would not work so not good at all for location & for a premium priced bar.
Had a great brunch yesterday here, foods was lovely and service excellent. Our waiter was French, did not get his name, but he was a real asset to the business. Would certainly visit again when in the area.
Given that this area behind kings cross is very busy and it's hard to find a place you can get in, this is a great bar/restaurant with a lot of space over 2 floors and food that's reasonably priced for the area. Service was quick and the chicken burger and fries was good. Worth a visit.
Recently visited this venue as myself and partner were in search for a place to host our engagement drinks. We were shown around by Dovile, she was incredibly friendly, helpful and made the whole experience very pleasant and easy. Having visited a handful of other venues that day Dovile was head and shoulders above all of them in terms of customer service. All our questions were answered and emails and reservation was prompt. We decided to stay for lunch and the rest of the team that served us throughout the afternoon were equally attentive and it made us really look forward to our engagement party there in a few weeks time. Thanks to all at D&M in particular Dovile!

Hi, as per you request I'll give further details to my review. The one and main point would be that you have a lovely place but the staff need training and food need some flavour tlc
Usually a brilliant place to go to and awesome bar but on this occasion the service from the lower bar staff was beyond abysmal. When the upper bar closed this left only the lower bar to serve drinks, staffed by 3 bar staff who were clearly out their depth and incapable of serving the volume of customers present.
Not only were they inept in serving customers and despite standing there in clear sight the bar staff, they were beyond selective in who they served. Even when i ordered the drinks and specified what i wanted ie specific brand the bar staff clearly didnt listen and provided something totally different. When I tried to point out this wasnt the drink i ordered I was IGNORED nor was i provided with the correct replacement drink!
A spacious, large restaurant/bar ideal for after work drinks, but not too much more. The downstairs is large and has plenty of seating. The bar sits in the centre as a square, so there's lots of room round it as well, meaning service is normally fairly quick. The staff are pleasant. The atmosphere is average, but it's not that lively.
I went here for a Christmas party. As one of the loan vegans in the party my meal arrived so late it came with dessert - and was basically some boiled sweet potato and nothing else. I hope you up your game this year as the company has booked us there again...
Really bad service. The food that we selected didn't come with everything. A full veggie breakfast, I was missing a hashbrown and beans. And then from a chicken and waffle, there was no chilli sauce and jalapenos. When asked for jalapenos, they said they don't do it no more, so why weren't we told beforehand or is removed from the mene? Also, waited after our food for the tea to arrive. Wouldn't visit again.
I Caught the manager of this restaurant serving chips from left over plates when he thought no body was looking. I noticed the waitress do the same thing after, very unhygienic I have been coming here since it opened..never again!
I have to say this is my third and last time visiting this restaurant. Each time I've visited, without exception, my party and I have received poor service. On arrival the table is not properly set, with no wine glasses, tea lights or condiments like the other tables surrounding it. 20 minutes into sitting down and my party still haven't been asked about drinks, even though they limit the booking to hours for the table. The waiters and waitresses don't know or understand the menu, one even saying there is no children's menu when in fact there is. Awareness of foods to avoid if there are allergies or intolerances is scant amongst the waiters, so a salad is served without even a dressing of olive oil or vinegar as they are unsure of what dressings are gluten and diary free. Wine is eventually served and then left for us to fill up our own glasses and again the waiters disappear at key moments, particularly when you are trying to get their attention.
29th October 2019
After reading the response from manager it's reassuring to know that every customer gets treated equally bad.
Great service! Keep it up!!
So expensive. A nice spot for outdoor tables. Pimm's what OK and very fruity.
The decor is light and airy. Plenty of high chairs in use. Loos are clean and tidy. Staff were friendly and helpful. The curry was lacking in coconut milk and so watery. Atmosphere is quite noisy but pleasant enough.
The food is good. Might need to be sure of what you want before you get there - brunch is not served on weekdays and afternoon tea has to be pre-ordered.
The advert or the legend on the door says that they are open till 1.am. I had dinner at half past eleven and then we went downstairs to the pub to drink something. First we smoked and went to the bathroom, and we finished at 11:45, They didn t wanted to served drinks after that.
The summary: They lie, and not are flexibles and warming. Thank you for nothing
Lovely food and a very cosy, welcoming environment. Service is fast and always helpful. Will be returning soon
Food tasted good albeit a little too salty, though there wasn't much of it. Portion sizes far too small for a proper meal. Seen meals twice the size. Service was lightning fast though.
Lovely place to chill. Friendly waiter, tasty food, and delish hot chocolate. Check out the loos downstairs too, with free yummy chocolates (really!)
First time at the venue yesterday and it won't be the last. The venue is very spacious and has an awesome vibe. The staff are helpful and friendly.
Had a lovely meal here, the drinks and food were quite tasty. Really busy but it was Saturday night. The waiting staff were very much on hand and quick to help with any questions. Would definitely recommend this place especially the cod dish with seaweed butter
It looks like a good place, if you want to feel happy, go morning during the working days, it's so big place. The service is good.
This was a great place to eat the first time I visited it a year ago.
I took my date there last night to impress but alas it turned out to be a disaster. Food was poor. The price too high. Service terrible. Had to wave and shout to get the waitress to attend. So less than 1 star I'm afraid. Sorry
Cozy place with a nice and relaxing atmosphere. The staff was also friendly and the food arrived very quickly.
Had a work lunch here and it delicious. Great atmosphere. I had the pan fried salmon and beetroot sauce. The sauce was out of this world.
Visited yesterday for brunch with some friends for a birthday and was such a nice day. The food was amazing; I had poached eggs and avocado and my husband had the buttermilk chicken and waffles which I will be having next time for sure. Some of our party had the roast too which they said was yummy and the portions were so big. Cocktails were so well presented and you can tell time went into making each one. Have booked to visit again next weekend !
