All the main shops are on one level. There are no hotels or sleep lounges unless you are a first class or business traveler then you ll be able to use their lounges. English is spoken throughout all the vendors. Finding our way around was pretty simple but remember to bring a hard copy of your itinerary and get your boarding pass. Life is so much easier when you do.

The worst entry procedure speed really. The judges yawning a lot. If you do it again anyway, why do you want to print your fingerprints?

Been there a number of times and as far as airports go its quite nice

The airport is large and unfortunately not always clear due to the lack of signage. In addition, the terminal can be changed when switching from international to domestic flight. This also includes collecting the luggage (even if it was confirmed before departure that the luggage would go through).

The airport was huge and impressive, but the staff were rude towards travellers. When i asked politely where should i head to for the check in, they replied in a rude tone "check for your own gate and just wait there". Not one crew staff, but three who replied like this. Maybe they need to train their employees how to be professional as well. Some staff at the directory were giggling when other travellers approached them. We were totally devastated as we did not know where to head to.

No Internet access, no shower. Terrible transfer service. Mediocre Business class lounge.

The Pudong airport has the most disrespectful hospitality for the elders they only seek money because their wheel chair have a charge of 500 YUAN! My grandma wants to sit down because she cant walk anymore because shes tired from walking

For me it is beautiful Shanghai I like to walk through its streets to see that it is another life not as busy as the Spanish European eats wonderfully falls asleep the taxis are cheap and the places to camp to eat are endless there are all the Chinese are very kind that there will be everything as in the whole world but Shanghai you have something that catches you and that you do not want to leave there the girls are very beautiful and very friendly there are great spaces there is respect for people as in all the world I would like to return to Shanghai alive Shanghai and the hotelling tong

Avoid this airport at all cost. Disorganised mess with unhelpful staff.

If you're making a transfer /transit through this sport you need to go through customs to get a 24hr/144hr visa then claim your baggage then recheck your baggage and go through security again.

All staff member seem to either be completely ignoring you, giving you incorrect advice instructions, or more interested chatting on their phones/with their colleagues while doing their job.

Wifi doesn't work as well so don't plan on using that if you have a long transfer/transit here.

My friend had a broken foot in a cast and on multiple occasions we asked for a wheelchair but it never came.

Also majority of the staff really struggle with English. This is an international airport... Either have English speaking staff or atleast Wifi so we can use Google translate.

Seriously, spend the extra money and avoid this airport if possible.

There's a trick to using wi-fi ~

There are almost no vacant chairs with many people.
There are few shops inside.
I used Terminal 2, but there seems to be nothing in Terminal 1.
The shuttle bus runs every 10 minutes from the 3rd floor.
It is also possible to walk from the bottom.
There is a walking sidewalk.
There is a convenience store where you can use drinking water and hot water at the bathroom.

I ve endured through the worst travel experience of my life here. I ve sent the following email complaint to them a week ago and still no response. I m beyond frustrated and cannot believe that no resolution has taken place yet.

Hi there,

Due to overcrowding at PVG airport on May 30, 2019, this caused our flight (CA 922) to be stuck on the runway for about an hour and prevented us from disembarking on time. We were supposed to arrive at 2:50pm. Instead, we did not disembark and get to customs in China until 3:50-3:57pm. Additionally, with having to go through customs in China as well as pick up baggage to re-check in, my husband and I were not able to check in to our connecting flight (as the check in booth was closed 1hr before departures). We did not get to the booths at China Air (operated by Air Canada), which was our connecting airline, until around 4:45pm. Our flight (CA 7457) was supposed to depart for Toronto at 5:15pm. It was impossible to make it to our flight because of PVG airport inefficiencies.

We spoke to an agent at the airport who advised us that a refund and change to our flight could be made if our flight had indeed been delayed, however, because the arrival time in PVG airport s system indicated that our plane had arrived at 2:47pm instead of the time we had actually disembarked from the plane and got to customs (approximately 3:50/3:57pm), we were not able to get a refund. We had to change our flight which cost us almost 19,660 CNY! Our frustration stems from the overcrowding and disorganization of plane arrivals and departures, customs procedures, picking up and re-checking in of baggage, the fact that the monitor did not even indicate where the baggage from our flight was to be claimed (we had to ask the staff to find out which conveyor belt our luggage was located at), and the fact that the transfer airline closes check-in booths 1 hr before check in time.

I am attaching our original tickets from KIX to PVG, the receipt which shows the time stamp of our arrival into customs in China to prove that we did not get there till almost 4:00pm (connecting flight was supposed to depart at 5:15pm), as well as the receipts for when we had to rebook our tickets ($3950.08 CAD) in order to get home. We are beyond upset, frustrated and tired; financially, emotionally and physically; because of all the issues we have experienced as a result of the problems caused by PVG airport. In the least, what we want is a refund for the cost that we had to additionally pay 19,660 CYN ($3950.08 CAD). Please let me know what can be done to resolve this issue. We have been travelling for almost 24hrs now. This was supposed to be our honeymoon and this was not how we imagined our honeymoon would turn out.

Need to watch up for the hotel pickup attendee, unless you have pre-book hotel transport, else don't approach them, they will route you to illegal transport pickup

Stuff mostly unfriendly and does not seem to care, also it was really hard to get Wi-Fi

A clean airport, but beware of fraud (catch) and pickpockets

Shanghai Pudong International Airport (China Travel)
Shanghai Pudong International Airport is an international airport located in the new district of Pudong, Shanghai, China. China Eastern Airlines is using this airport as a hub airport.

-Shanghai Pudong Airport duty-free shops do not have as many luxury stores as expected.
-The convenience facilities cannot reach Incheon International Airport.

Very nice, well organized, and absolutely huge. Customs/immigration processing is very efficient and professional.

Trash. Avoid this place like the plague. There are thieves trying to sell you fake iphones and people trying to hustle taxi services. Once you finally get to where the long line is for the regular taxis, they'll have no idea where you want to go.(Jin Jiang Inn).

Not the most comfortable airport in the world. Shops close so a late night stay is pretty boring. The planes couldn't get close to the terminals, so there were buses that were shuttling us all over the place (I think this was ongoing construction). The vendors that were open were helpful and kind. I would avoid for long layovers, but short layovers wouldn't be an issue.

Language is always a problem there ... beside that clean airport.

I LOVE THE EXPERIENCE THAT I WAS GIVEN BY GOING TO KNOW THE MagicA land of MY eastern roots to CHINA. PERSONALLY, PUDONG INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT IN SHANghAI IS IMMENSE AND IMPRETION. I WILL NEVER FORGET IT.

Stupid thing with connecting flight was that we needed check out from airport and then check in again with bagage.

I've only flown business through PVG, so check-in and security is a breeze (looked bad for others without priority). Not much in the way of decent food options, so I hang out in the club lounge.

Star alliance lounge has good drinks, food is tolerable, chairs are terrible, but beats the alternative.

All in all, this is a decent airport for China, but still sub-par compared to a US/Canada or European airport.

One of the security guys was sleeping. The staff there was rude and most of them do not speak English. I do not know how they got this job and how they were trained?

Forget connections. Omg. It was havoc, insane crazy check points every where. If you transfer to a different terminal expect LONG wait times. No one speaks English. No one knows anything. You're on your own. Good luck.

My hometown airport, very modern and clean everywhere you go. The difference with other airport is that the noise level is extremely low, it could be the design of the roof, that it somehow reduced everyone's talking voice.
The restaurant selection is good after the custom and security.
Some shops sells 2 mins noodle but not all airlines allows customer to eat it on flight.
VIP lounge at number 45 did feel over populated over the last few years, it could be a result of priority pass lowering their membership levels into lower annual fees ones to attracting more clients.
Allow extra travel time, immigration takes awhile and it is a large airport therefore make sure account for more walking time to the gates as well.

Worst airport I've ever been into. Nobody knows how to speak nor understand english. Nobody wants to help. Nobody's in the information desk. The ground attendant of Philippine airlines check-in counter and gate were all rude. All of the vending machines were broken. 4 hrs layover are not enough to make you in time for the next boarding. 1st time I stopped here was terrible, I regret doing it on the 2nd time, I'm so done with this place. Will never ever go back in here. Worst airport in the world.

For a country of 1 billion, one would think that they could hire more than 1 immigration officer to process entire planes of transit passengers. At least 3 lengthy line-ups to simply transit the country! I would guess at least 2 hours to make any connections

It's large, so it walks quite a bit, but there are no worries about communication because there are staff who can speak Japanese. There are many souvenir shops and restaurants. However, be careful as some uncle spits near the subway.

The security is quite strict so plan to arrive a little early.

Nothing much to do on the airport as such. No recreational activity or even place to sit out and eat good

Good facility and shopping options. Easy to get in/out. Staffs are willing to help.
However, the lounge can be improved. and sometimes there can be a huge queue in front of the VISA control/security check.

It was a new satellite terminal. Since it was China Eastern Airlines, it moves by train from the normal terminal 1, so it seems to be very impatient when time is last. The terminal is quiet. In particular, there were not many restaurants and I was a little lonely. By the way, there are no smoking areas, so smokers need to be careful.

Very bad experience at Pudong airport. I have been flying from Milan to go to Osaka. The staff is very unfriendly and couldn't direct us to the transfer office. Once we found the transfer office we were told to change our tickets because it hasn't been printed and stamped by the quarantine. Just to get a new ticket and a stamp took us an hour. Once we had to pass the customs we were told to throw away some belongings that weren't included in the prohibited items. This is the best part: we had an eight-hour layover, and we were going to board our plane until the staff informs me that there is a lighter in my suitcase. How is that possible when I don't even smoke? My suitcase was supposed to arrive on the next flight to Osaka. I still don't have my suitcase and the Japanese customs have no news from Shanghai airport. I absolutely do not recommend going there. This is the first and last time in 15 years of travelling.

A little dirty. Security check for transit took forever. It took a long time to understand how to use wi-fi since the password printing machine had only Chinese interface.

I liked the airport, both the infrastructure and the view of the sea (from the plane) but I went to look for the hotel and I saw that the orange, yellow and gray roads that demarcate the roads were run, Google would be grateful to correct the pocision of roads, and that not only happens in shanghai but in beiging, macao and other areas

It's the worst.

The toilet is dirty
The floor is old and dirty
East and West are expensive
The service ecology of the restaurant is not bad
Basically that attitude I have never met in Taiwan
In the end it becomes a bunch of guests arguing with the waiter XD

We had several experiences there. Each time, it was a nightmare. No respect. Almost nobody speak English (more than 2 words) in Delta or China Eastern counters in this international airport. People with Sky priority or medallion, be patient, they usually don t know the rules...

Very clean compared to other airport in China.
Especially, Burgerking in this airport offers really delicious chicken burger.(Most of burgers in China is really great. They regard american burger as special meal.)

There are so many smoking rooms that are unusual in this era.

Not hard to use, but not easy to use. However, since it is possible to walk to the station of the linear motor car, access to the city is outstanding.

Excellent airport but no real Wi-Fi. Maglev is very slow and boring except for a few times a day it runs at full speed. Take a bus to city to downtown (city terminal) and enjoy the view.

Pudong No. 1 Terminal, get23 ~ The air conditioner is very poor. The fumes in the restaurant become heavier behind the whole area. It seems that the air conditioner is not turned on. .

Very large, modern airport, formalities are quick (on arrival and departure). For those who are exempt from visa (visa free transit), an additional slip (white and blue - available before the visa counter) must be completed, it is similar to the yellow one given on board the plane. Very big and spacious with very bad attitude airport 'staffs'!! I was on my way to Osaka and make a 9hrs layover there. As all the shops was closed at 10pm..I bought a cup noodles in 7-11 and they don't provide hot water! Next thing is they ask me to get it from the water dispenser outside..then only I found out that the water dispenser was in the toilet that stinks!! OMG!!

Excellent ground transportation options if you have reserved ahead. Beware of scrupulous taxi operators that are under benign neglect by the authorities. Of course, there is the mag-lev for the trip to mid-town but then one has to be careful about onward ground transportation. There is a nominal saving for return trip ticket purchases on the mag-lev.

The arrivals area is better than average except that unlike other major airports there aren't many traveling walkways and the passport control queues become problematic owing to Murphy's Law.

The departures area is much better past security control. Traveling walkways stretch to the ends of the both terminals (domestic & international). The departure lounges (for "cattle class" passengers) have abundant and comfortable seating with good views. There are token eating places inside with the bulk of real estate rented out to duty-free. Frequent flier lounges are much superior than the pathetic ones served by United (SFO) or AA (LAX) at the U.S. airports. Of course, there are significant delays between boarding and takeoff owing to severe congestion that still cannot be alleviated with so many active runways.

If you are hungry, eat in the elevated section of check-in area before proceeding to security control.

The best thing about this airport is the train Maglev that communicate with the city, this levitate at 431kph and your don't feel a thing.

Not really pleasant AirPort to stay. If your unlucky and have to stay for couple of hours inside the airport transiting to another flight, there is no decent option to eat. There is no free water to drink except hot water from dirty machine to pour your noodles and tea. If you're lucky and you actually get out of the airport to arrival/departure hall there is McDonalds, but they don't accept Visa or MasterCard. It's pretty funny, but not really if you're hungry and just want to eat. People unfriendly, rude and with very poor English. Toilets are mostly disgusting. You would expect much more when visiting Shanghai .

At least 45mins drive from shanghai city. Large airport and travelers to us need at least 3 hrs arrival before departing extra security checks And questioning.. also very important lesson learn there are lots of us websites that china block so need to get a chip phone there or get a app to unblock.

Only accepts Chinese RMB- current exchange rate was 6.3 to US dollar
Some stores o Ly accepts cash or Chinese no card barcode scan pay- which is the most popular method of payment it's like Apple Pay in us..

From Sendai Airport,
Arrived at China International Airlines at 18 o'clock.
A big, beautiful airport.
Not too crowded
Entry inspection and receipt of baggage
Finished, but to find an exit,
It took time.

On the day of returning home,
Ticket purchase, luggage deposit also

Matsutake mushroom udon and hot sandwich,
Eat orange juice,
I was able to leave Japan slowly.

The international flight was a cleaner airport than I expected.
However, it is wide... Be careful of the time when transferring to domestic flights.

There are 2 terminals in Pudong Airport. For the ones who departure from Shanghai, it's better to be aware of that. For the ones who will arrive Shanghai, it's better to take the Maglev train to downtown if without too much belongings. There are also metro or shattle bus, but that takes too much time. One terminal is the domestic line of China and the Hong Kong and Taiwan lines.
The second terminal is an international line.
No matter which one, the delay is normal.

Nice airport. Been here regularly and never had any problems. Lots of transportation possibilities from and to the city. Walking distances to the gates can be long. Customs is quick.
