On September 21st we arrived at the Doubletree resort Paradise Valley to check in and celebrate our 34th anniversary and have a "quiet" overnight stay.
We were disappointed on how we were greeted by the front desk gentleman. He did not welcome us in any way, smile etc. I did not feel very welcome and his personality/attitude was not pleasant. This is my third stay at this hotel and I have never experienced this kind of service.
My husband checked in and I will not get into too much detail on the young desk staff who did not make us feel comfortable but focus on the rest of our stay and how very upsetting it was from the beginning. We purchased the Bed & Breakfast package (which did not state it was only good for a buffet). The desk staff at check in did not give us our vouchers because he was not listening tour comments informing him of our package. He only told us to go to the dining room for breakfast.
We were then given keys to 1st room, which was a nice room away from noise and quiet- but when we opened the door it smelled of cigarette smoke. We understand it is not the fault of the hotel that guest do not follow appropriate rules, but it is the job of housekeeping to inform front desk or housekeeping supervisor of the room problem. We called front desk immediately and they offered to just spray air freshener in room, which was not acceptable. They informed me that they had no second floor rooms and they were all full.( This was not true since I was told by the bar staff at pool there was only 30% occupancy that day)
Our 2nd room was then switched to lower level , which was not pleasing But we were tired from a long drive and decided to go with it since the front desk said they had no other rooms available. When we arrived in the 2nd room there was noise coming from filter of vent, but we decided to drop our bags and enjoy the pool. Not checking the room totally, ( which was a mistake). I will get back to this soon. The condition of pool area was disappointing. Chair arm rest broken, dirt in pool, broken tiles in pool. It was as if the hotel is not really interested in keeping it up.
( Note 2nd room had stains on bathroom wall and baseboards in bathroom were moldy. Stains on carpet and that does not include the screen back door trim falling apart and the loud party going young adults next to us)
We came back to our room after being at the pool, the noise got worse, but we changed and went to dinner. Upon return at 9:30, the noise became louder and my husband checked it and thought it was the filter in vent which had an amazingly HUGE amount of dust. It may have been compressor of unit that made so much noise. We could not sleep since the noise on vent worsened. So I called front desk after 10PM to tell them and she suggested she send up maintenance crew, but by the time they fixed it, it would have been too late so I told her no and find me a room in close proximity to current room so I don't have to go too far. We went to our new room 3 doors down...which was much better and finally fell asleep after midnight.
Next morning we went to breakfast and we were actually going to order from menu, but did not and it was a good thing since the waiter gave us check and I told him I had paid B&B package and he said I needed a voucher. I had to get up from breakfast and leave restaurant, go to front desk, get voucher. My final exit ( thank goodness since I could not stay ANOTHER minute here in this hotel) I went to check out. The clerk never asked how my stay was or smiled either. It must be a prerequisite to NOT smile to get this job. I had to tell her that I was not happy and had to change rooms 3 times. Her response( straight faced) was So sorry, would you like to PAY using card on file!
I will never stay here again! By the way, in all the confusion , we left our swimsuits in bathroom. When I got a call after arriving home. Hotel asked me how I wanted to "pay" for them to send it to me!!! Are you kidding me after that kind of stay!
