Corrupt company billing practices

I agree with EVERYONE on this review page that DJO is a corrupt organization. I had the same experience at a clinic. I signed their Agreement (which allows DJO to bill your insurance company separately from the clinic's billing). There is no price list provided along with this form but you expect the charges will be reasonable. NOPE! As is the case with most insurance coverage these days there is no coverage until you reach a high deductable. This, then allows DJO to bill you almost $200 for a device that can be found at any retail site for ~$75. Multiple efforts to have a more reasonable billing for this ineffective walking boot (Model L4361) were met with explanations that this price gouging effort is supported in the fine print of the document you sign at the clinic. DO NOT ACCEPT A DJO DEVICE FROM YOUR MEDICAL PROVIDER!

I had the exact same experience "Leave Mark" had with the Donjoy Playmaker II Knee Brace. I received a $495 bill for the brace directly from DJO Global LLC. When you go to their own website, the same brace is listed for $189.99.

Where's the other $300 going? Shipping costs? This is ridiculous.

This is an amazing company to work for! They are going through a major transformation right now to be better in every way. There have been a lot of bad reviews on here from people with legitimate complaints, problems, and issues... and DJO is listening. They want to help people and take better care of their customers and their employees so they are working really hard to change old habits and bring on a new bright and fresh start. I can't wait to see the amazing things that await DJO's future!

They get 0 stars, but it made me choose 1. I have been dealing with this company for over a year and they still don't have my issue fixed. They turned me over to collections even though they had the wrong billing information for my insurance. I called them and gave it to them 3 times no change. Called them with my insurance company 2 times and finally got it right the last time. Pulled from collections, yeah right. Collections called started again that's how I knew it wasn't fixed. My insurance company took this over and DJO assured them it was complete; pulled from collections and they were paid in full. They called me to let me know. Wrong, wrong, wrong. Collections called started again today. I called DJO and left a message and have received no call back. I am about to hire an attorney. It's been a year, I am buying a house and they are going to affect my credit.

CAREFUL of the SCAM!! Had a representative do a "check" to verify that I would only be charged a certain price for this brace while at the Dr's office.. Then AFTER the fact I get another bill for another $10 in the mail. GREAT SCAM by the way, because now I have this brace, that was only needed for a short time and now I get to pay more than I would have if I just bought one in the store..
DO NOT USE THEM!!

This organization is solely focus on the bottom line and not on the individual end user. They will come after disabled veterans who are given products by the VA, and will not seek to correct the billing discrepancy themselves. Unfortunately the nuances in healthcare payer sources can be quite confusing and DJO Global has perfected putting the responsibility on the person needing the product versus the insurance or benefit that provided the equipment. This is unfortunate for a cutting edge company to be so dismissive of the "little people".... who knows maybe they are too big to fail, but hopefully the market/consumer will force a correction with their business model.

This company also has the rudest customer service representatives we have encountered....however, my sympathies to the representatives, because if DJO Global treats everyone this way, every call is an escalation.

This is not a great company in terms of billing. I had received a bill for $20 and had paid it a week. Four days later (a total of about 10 days since I got the actual bill) I get a call telling me to call them. Of course, I have to give them all kind of information to find out why they even were calling... when they called me... only to be told my account was fine. They said it was a courtesy call. BS...is there collection rate so bad that they have to o hound good customers who pay their bill? I am not likely to delay payment on any other bills they send me. I felt bad for the collections guy.. but not really. Courtesy call... BS.

Went to Scripps hospital. They gave me a basic arm sling. DJO Global is trying to charge me $119. Billed me months after "return" date and charge this extortion of a fee for an item I can buy on their site for $8.00. This company is a complete sham.

I was reading reviews and someone else had this review and this was my exact experience down to the walking boot. Saved me typing a new review.

I would give this 0 stars if I could. I received a letter from a collection agency for an unpaid bill and was surprised since I pay my bills and never got a bill from the company that sent me to collections. I called the collection agency and was told that it was DJO Global seeking payment for a walking boot I received after injuring my ankle last year. The thing is- the company didn't send me one bill but was able to find my address to send me to collections. This actually appeared on my credit report. The customer service rep for the collection agency said he frequently gets letters and emails, not to mention an ear full during his telephone conversations from people complaining that they never got a bill from this company. I am calling my doctor's office to complain as well as reporting DJO Global to the BBB. You can't mess with people's credit reports because of your poorly run business.

Terrible experience with this company. I spoke to their sales rep at Scripps Clinic, assuming they were reputable since they were working with the orthopedic surgery department there. The sales rep was very aggressive, took my measurements, and had me sign a paper that she told me was confirming my information. I asked her if this meant I was buying a brace, being very clear that I did not intend to buy anything without approval of my insurance and doctor. She said "No", it was just to confirm information. A short time later, a $1600 brace arrived in the mail, that they claimed I had placed an order for. Outrageous!! A bunch of swindlers taking advantage of anxious patients at a reputable hospital.

I was prescribed a bone growth stimulator after I broke my wrist. Humana military paid $1200 to start. After many months I get an invoice for over $3200. I don't know anyone who has that kind of money laying around. They called and said that I need to submit another form with Humana. I got the form and submitted it and in the meantime they put my account in collections. Humana finally paid an additional amount but after I gave them a payment on a credit card. They hadn't even notified the credit collection company of the payments. I can't even get someone to call me back about the overpayment. I can't even understand why this company can't take back the item. If they can look online and see how many more treatments are there then they can take it back and reprogram it for another patient and charge much less to the insurance companies. No wonder health care costs are going through the roof.

Terrible company. Ripping people off! Had cervical spinal fusion revision surgery and my neurosurgeon ordered a bone growth stimulator for my cervical area. What was delivered was a bone growth stimulator for the lumbar area. I was still billed for $5,000.00. Called the company and the representative said it "will work". For $5,000 you would think I could get what I actually need. This is what is wrong with our country and health care system. Companies like DJO Global that rip off sick people and their insurance companies!

I got a brace at a clinic in June 2017 after injuring my wrist. They said the insurance would cover it. Well, it didn't. The charge was $68 for a brace I could have bought at Wal-Mart for $12 no more than $20 for sure. The Insurance only paid $30. So, I was responsible for the $38. Fine... they sent me a bill that looked like junk mail so I might have been throwing away any previous bills they may have sent me. I just so happen to open it and see that the insurance had not paid all of it. I don't blame them...$68 for a wrist brace is robbery! Anyway, I paid $38 in Nov 2017. In Jan 2018, I receive a credit report that a collection agency reported me for non payment. I call the collection agency, AARGON COLLECTION AGENCY and tell them that I already paid the bill DJO. They say I have to prove that I paid them. Don't these people talk to THEIR customers!!!
So. I called DJO today, Feb 5, 2018 to ask them to clear this up
with the collection agency. They say their records only go back as far as Sept 2017. I got the brace in June 2017 so they directed me to a different dept that is supposed to be open til 8PM Eastern time. I called them at 4:50 pm Central Time and the dept is CLOSED!!! How can DJO send a bill that has already been paid to a collection agency and then only gives people 1 month to pay before they report it to the credit agencies!!! I will never. ever do business with this company EVER again!!! The brace did help but people shouldn't have to go through all this aggravation!!!
They're business practices are just horrible!

Paid for the brace at time of service for 40% discount and still got a bill for the full balance. Called customer service 4 times, faxed information 2 times with no response. Spoke to Armando twice and he provides no information whatsoever and even worse doesn't know how to transfer a phone call to management. I rank them equally to my cable provider for customer service.

I was told by their one of their representatives that the knee brace I was given would be completely covered by their insurance. Then I was later sent a bill. I called them and asked if I could refund the item because the was not covered as they told me. They said they only have a 14 day return policy and that since I signed an agreement with them I had to pay it. That was the first thing they said to me on the phone. Keep in mind that I didn't receive the bill until sometime after the 14 day return policy. Their rep even admitted I wasn't the first person to feel this way about how they operate.

Do not purchase any DonJoyproducts ever again. !!!! This company has no idea of what customer service is. They charge a terrible high price and give nothing by bad service in return. Please look for alternative knee braces and cold therapy. DO not purchase DonJoy. Their braces pinch and they do not support expensive older products.

I received a bill 11 months after surgery. We paid thru HRA. Get another bill next month. I call and say I paid. He said prove it. My HRA sent a copy of cashed check. Next month got a bill. I call and same guy says sorry didn't get any proof. Call HRA company and do a 3 way call. Sending copies AGAIN. Next month no bill? So I call and ask if it was marked as paid. He says NO. I said why no bill? he says' Were done sending bills for this" I said I paid this 4 months ago. He says they never got any proof. So now I faxed a copy of payment from HRA and I just called (10 days later) and he said it is not marked as paid....grrrrr

broken wrist - velcro brace = $125 bill surprise. The bill was NOT from the Urgent care facility is was directly from them. Yet, on their own website a very similar brace (it looked nicer actually) cost under $20??? I seriously don't know how the leaders of this company can sleep at night knowing full well what they are doing. Is it illegal? NO, thanks to our broken healthcare system. Is it moral? I don't know how they can honestly say it is. I hope the beach house, ski house and God only knows what else is worth the financial strain you undoubtedly cause many working folks.

I wore the heel out of my boot after an Achillis injury about 4 weeks after getting the boot. I contacted customer service and they sent me a new one via FEDEX. Great customer service. All of the complaints over pricing is the fault of the hospital and facility, not from this company. Hospitals and doctors offices jack these prices up!

I am using a Spinalogic Stimulator following spine...

I am using a Spinalogic Stimulator following spine surgery. I find it difficult to believe this appliance works because the product design is so poorly thought out. Once you use the device for 30 minutes, it can't be used again for at least 24 hours. It means that it must be used at a later time each day. The result is that days must be skipped frequently. The inability to use this, for instance, at 8pm Monday and not at 6pm the next day is simply moronic. Are we to believe that a company that can't produce a more sensible timing device can actually help our bones? It's like believing that someone incapable cracking an egg can produce eggs Benedict.

Then there is the ridiculous packaging. There are cut outs for a dozen batteries. As soon as you lift the case slightly at an angle, all the batteries slide out onto the floor and the patient who has just had spine surgery gets to bend over and pick up the batteries up off the floor.

There is very little logic built into my Spinalogic.

Ordered 5 liter containers of conductor gel...received 2. When I called to see if two more were on the way, no one on the phone could help me. Kept transferring me to someone else and had to be placed on hold. When they did answer I could hardly understand them. Will NOT order from them again even if the rest of my product shows up. If I did business this way I would not be in business. Its about customer care, since we pay your bills.

I had no idea how much a wrist brace with a thumb splint would cost when my doctor at Scripps gave it to me. I thought I would be billed from Scripps for this, not a 3rd party.

DJO charged me $125 for this brace. I researched online and found the exact same brace for $37!! What a rip off!

Next time, my doctor 'gives' me a device, I'm asking for the cost BEFORE I accept it! $125 for a wrist brace? C'mon guys. What a gouging I took

You dial and work your way through the phone tree to ask if they have a retail store I can go to in Vista. The customer rep cannot answer that because I later learn this is a call center in the Philippines and no one truly speaks or understands English. So much for a company started by an ex-football player and attorney from Carlsbad. I couldn't even place my order out of shear frustration and being transferred back and forth because customer service does not know their product lines.

I'm in the middle of financial stuff and I get a call saying I have "a collections" on my credit report from 9/15 and this is 8/17. I'm not aware of any Don Joy or DJO Global.... and I've never received any notice from them... plus if they're a Medicare provider they have been paid in full. To send a 2-year old matter without ever contacting me is reprehensible. Just to get out of the credit problem I called the collection agency and Paid the $40 plus 9.95 for them to collect... plus $4.95 to send me a letter that I did. IF I ever am referred to them, and I don't recall ever hearing of them, AVOID THEM!!!! because I will!

DJO Global is a complete scam company and this is why....

I was under a workers comp case and DJO Global was assigned to me by my doctor to provide some medical equipment. They were informed that this was a workers comp case and they needed to obtain workers comp authorization before sending any equipment. But DJO Global was sending equipment to the doctor's office not me (patient) without workers comp authorization. They tried to collect from workers comp and when they were denied, as they were sending equipment without any authorization, they started sending bills to me directly. On top of that, I never received the medical equipment. I informed them that they needed to contact workers comp, not me since it is illegal for them to attempt to collect from me. I contacted workers comp and the doctor, they both agreed that what DJO Global was doing is illegal. Both workers comp and my doctor contacted DJO Global and made them aware again that they have no busy contacting, let alone trying to collect from me. A few months later, I was in the process of buying a house, and I was informed by the bank that there was a collection placed on me by DJO Global. As a result, it damaged my credit score from 818 to 690. Because of that the interest rate increased by 1 point. I contacted the collection agency to inform them that this is a workers comp case and they told me that they were not informed by DJO Global and they removed it immediately. Unfortunately, it would take upto 90 days for my credit score to be corrected. So because of that I ended up buying the house with an extra cost.

The absolute worst customer service I think I have ever experienced. Received a brace for my daughter that was nothing like we thought it would be and no one will return my calls. I have been trying for months to speak to someone other than a receptionist and all my messages have gone unanswered. We received a "Late Notice' payment demand for $$33.28, fifteen months after my wife's rotator cuff surgery, even though we had never received any bills from DJO, and
a) after insurance had already paid $49.92 to DJO, and
b) despite never receiving an EoB from our insurer indicating that we did not owe any further balance.

I called 'DJO' who refused to discuss the bill with me, even though my wife delegated full authority to me in her EMR.

They would not even explain to me why no original bill was ever sent, why their bill contradicted the EOB, and why they were billing us fifteen months after the fact. None of those questions violate HIPAA.

Another shabbily run med device company. They should be banned from the business.

I received a boot for my broken toe from my doctor. Several months later, I got a letter from a collections agency claiming I owe DJO Global $50 for the boot. It's $14 on Amazon and I never received a bill. Ends up, DJO had an extra letter in my address and the bills were bouncing back to them. Instead of calling my doctor to get the correct address, they sent me to collections. After several hours of phone calls to the collections agency and DJO, I was able to get this taken care of in January. Then today, 3/25/20, I received a bill from DJO, dated in early February & with my correct address, for $50. They need to get their act together.

I have worn one of your thumb Procare braces on 2 different occasions. The design of this brace is very poor, the seam around the thumb area that is on the inside of it should be on the outside. I had a degenerated joint at the base of my right thumb and had tendon transfer surgery. The 1/4" seam that is around the bottom of the thumb piece that is on the inside put pressure and a indented place right across my surgery area which caused me undue pain that I shouldn't have had to endure for 4 weeks. This design needs to be reversed and the seams be on the outside for this reason.

We are retailers. We have had major billing issues with this company (specifically Dr. Comfort) ongoing for some time now. We were hassled for 18 months over check payments we made that they cashed and received yet they continued to call (from India) to say the invoices were outstanding.
We sent copies of the processed cashed checks by DJO over and over to no avail. Finally we had to get upset and threaten to go to our lawyer.

Currently we have used a credit card to pay invoices online only to have them charge that card 5 WEEKS LATER and for the WRONG AMOUNT (a higher amount of course) than shown on the processing charge invoice.

I have now spent an hour talking to three different people (again in India) with no result other than "we will have your rep contact you". The last rep took a month to call. I tried calling the DJO corporate office and they offered to send me straight back to Dr. Comfort. Only after some persuasion have I now been sent to someone's voicemail at DJO.

We can no longer do business this way.
