Small portions of meat for price. Very bland flavor in meat, sides and sauce. Brisket appears to be more of a crock pot roast vs a smoked brisket. I Don't recommend this place if you are looking for real BBQ

My husband and I went there last Sunday for dinner. We live in Woodbridge and wanted to find a good local restaurant where we could go regularly. We got there and it wasn t that busy, and noticed that the owner was there (we thought that was pretty cool). Placed our order with no problems, but my husband asked for a lemon in his water and didn t get it, then had to ask our waiter twice for butter... not the end of the world, but not the best service.

The food was really good... until a roach crawled across the table. We got up immediately and told the waiter. The waiter went and told the owner, then continued on with serving. A few minutes later he walked back over, and the roach was on the wall so I pointed at it. The waiter said, oh then went back to the owner and told him, yeah, it s on the wall. The owner said something to him then the waiter came back over and said, yeah, you guys can just go. We just said okay and walked out.

We were incredibly disappointed that 1. No one apologized - does this happen all the time, then? And 2. The owner didn t come over and say anything to us about it.
If the owner had come over and apologized, explained this never happens, etc. maybe we would have considered going back since we did enjoy the food. However, since the situation was brushed off by both the owner and the waiter, it gives us the impression that it s a common occurrence and so we will not be returning.

Good food and good service. I had brisket (tender) and pulled pork (actually pulled), both with sauces that matched. The collards were tasty. The tea was done right as were the sides and desserts. Worth going back for seconds.

We came here on a Monday for lunch. At first the server was nice and polite letting us sample the sauces for the bbq since it was different than bbq sauce we are use to so we told him we appologized we didnt realize the bbq sauce was runny and we did not like the taste of it so we were going to go to another restaurant. We took TWO sips from our drinks and was charged $5 for the drinks even tho we decided to not eat there.

I've eaten at Dixie Bones for over 20 years. Food is really awesome with barbecue flavor smoked to perfection. Worth every wait at the front door. you have to try to get in there and eat every morsel of barbecue on your plate if you can. The stuffed baked potatoes AR way oversized and really really good. Excellent customer service is over the top and so nice you'd feel like you were in the Deep South. Enjoy!

Generous portions, delicious food. Best cornbread, Beef BBQ and pie! Take some food home and leave room for dessert here! Casual eatery. They appear to uplift employees. Loved the decor. Highly recommend if you are a fan of southern cooking!

Great place, small, but great. I'm a vegetarian (not vegan), so really the only thing that they have that I can eat is the catfish. It's better than ok, needs a little extra flavor. A little over priced for what you get. My wife, however, loves their pulled pork. (She grew up in the south, so she loves good bbq). The meat portions are smaller than what you pay for. The service is well trained. You can tell who has been there awhile and who hasn't, but most of them have been there awhile. Potato salad is good, Cole slaw is great, Mac-n-cheese is good. (I saw another review that said it was watery, I've never had watery Mac-n-cheese). And all of their sauces for the meat is good, with a nice description so you know what you are tasting.
Dixie Bones is our go-to place when we don't feel like cooking, about once or twice a month, (we get take out). We've been coming here for over 3 years now, since 2014. I would recommend this place to anyone. It seems like they have been around longer than they have. That's a good thing.

Been here a couple times before and generally satisfied with the BBQ, however this time tried the catfish and regretted it. Small fillets, over-fried and greasy, green beans were cooked to mush and the collard greens were too sweet. Good service, pricey, basically a southern-fried recipe for obesity.

They sauce their meat which isn't my thing. So if you don't like sauce make sure to ask them not to. The French fries are frozen not fresh cut so avoid that side. The greens were really tender and good. The ribs were smoky and good. Th brisket while really tender only tasted like sauce. The best thing overall was the cornbread and the staff.

The food is awesome. The portions are worth the price. We had the pulled chicken breast, pork BBQ, and ribs. We used Dixie Bones for an Eagle Scout ceremony and have been eating there since!

Ordered take-out from here tonight and was disappointed. For the price, the food was VERY bland, from the meat to the sides. The beans tasted like they came directly from the can with a touch of hot sauce added to them. Meat was dry. And everything was overpriced.

Great food, nothing particularly fancy but they have the basics down pat: clean, tasty dishes, good variety, friendly service and reasonable prices. I'm a creature of habit when it comes to ordering different dishes, but everything here is delicious so I do mix it up a bit depending on what I'm in the mood for

My favorite BBQ in Northern VA. The pulled pork is delicious. Their BBQ sauce is terrific. The bread pudding is also fantastic, but I rarely have room for it (even though I always end up taking half of my meal home).

This place is a local favorite and is loved by the community and the staff. The staff have pictures of themselfs shot by the owner which shows a great deal of support from the owner. Our waiter said that he had worked there for about 5 years which to me means he is dedicated. So needless to say our waiter knowledgeable and friendly. He was able to introduce us to the menu and help us select some of the local favorites. He also made me an "Arnold Palmer" even thou it wasn't on the menu and it was excellent.
Now comes the bad news. Even tho the wait staff was excellent and the decor made you feel like you were in an old American antique shop (Which was fun to look around) the food was just ok. I ordered the pulled pork and it was dry, the BBQ sauces were just ok and they had three to select from. The Chicken was also dry but now as much as the pork. My son had the grilled cheese and he actually ate it, and I say that because he's a picky eater. I expected better from this establishment because it looked and smelt like BBQ, there was even a huge smoker in the parking lot at the front door so I was hopeful from the beginning. But that wasn't the worse part, the Mac and cheese was the worse I have ever had. It wasn't cheesy or creamy. The noodles were soft but the cream was gridy and the cheese wasn't melty but stiff like kraft cheese gets when it cools. I told waiter about the cheese separation which causes the gridy texture but he said that's how they made there. So pushed it to the side and continued my meal.
In the end I had a good experience and was really impressed by the respect and love by the staff for the restaurant. But since I have to judge the food in this review I'll have to leave it with a 3 star on just the food alone and a 5 star on the waiter.

We've been eating here since 1996; still great food and staff. Their catering is also great. We had Dixie Bones cater a few family events in the past and everyone was so pleased at how great the food is. The buffet on Sunday is pretty awesome too.

Was looking for some good, genuine southern BBQ, like the kind I found in lower Alabama while stationed there in the Army. Close. The fried Catfish was awesome! Light and crispy and not fishy tasting. The beef brisket was okay. A bit dry and not cut like traditional brisket. Fortunately, they have great BBQ sauces to experiment with. The Mac & Cheese was a little dry too, and mealy. However, the service was awesome! Food came out very fast and hot. Adal was very fast and efficient and took really good care of me. Sweet tea is really sweet. Try the "half & half" instead. Good dessert options. Fairly reasonable prices considering the amount of food and the speedy service. I'll be back to try their other meat options.

Service is five star, food is three at best. Perhaps it just because I'm used to a more southern (Texas) BBQ, but I wasn't impressed with the meat and even less so with the sauces.

Dixie Bones had never failed to deliver in all the years we've been coming here. Great barbecue, great sauce. Pork, chicken, ribs, catfish, side dishes --it's all so good. And the pies are to die for!

If you or a few of your friends are looking for great tasting southern comfort food with a "homemade" touch and not much of a fuss - definitely give this restaurant a go.

Pros: Great tasting southern comfort food with attentive and service oriented staff.

Cons: Location is somewhat hidden (across from the CVS store), may be difficult to accommodate large parties and not much variation on the menu items.

Great food/ Great staff. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable, answered all our menu questions. The prices seemed a little high at first, but the food came fast, was generous in quantity, and tasted as if Grandma was cooking in the kitchen. We were impressed with the display of military pride as well as the pictures of the local high school graduates during grad week. Welcoming place!

Good BBQ. I only have one question. Has anyone ever read their "breakfast menu" it is the most passive aggressive thing I have ever read. And when I went in to try it they told me I didn't want it. It's basically Black Coffee, two hard boiled eggs, and a piece of toast. And I think it cost like $20 bucks. Anyway I was wondering if anyone had seen the menu because like I said it's super sarcastic and I don't understand why

This is one of my families favorite restaurants to eat at! The giant stuffed potato is the best. If you are trying to find a place that offers a Sunday buffet this is a great option and it's a decent price. We are from Georgia, and this is the closest we have found to bbq from back home.

Stopes here for lunch and got the three meat platter with mac and cheese and what I think it was called Sputnik patatoes or something like that. Three meats I got was ribs, pulled pork and brisket. The pulled pork and ribs was especially good with the vinegar based sauce that was on the table. Now for the broskit , thos had more of a texture of pot roast maybe I'm picky considering I lived in Texas for while but definitely not favorite of mine. Now for the sides mac and cheese was good looked like they also used creamed cheese to make it extra creamy, and I loved it. Now for the pattato dish, oh my it was so gooood, I couldn't get enough. And the service what a service refills showed up without asking extremely prompt . Definitely will stop by next time on in the area...
