The main center of the Mycenaean civilization that dominated the eastern Mediterranean before the rise of the ancient Greek cities. The place is not well preserved and in the summer it is quite hot as there are not many shadows but it is worth a visit. There are many interesting things in the adjoining museum. With the tickets for this place can also be visited at the Archeological Museum and Atreus Treasure in the vicinity, which is also very interesting.

Despite the very heavy archaeological value to a common visitor, it has nothing special to offer other than the museum that is definitely worth it. Also the vaulted tomb had a particularly unpleasant smell of ammonia (hopefully from strays and not from anthropomorphic strays) and with the heat it was unpleasant to stay inside.

Really interesting ancient city. Fantastic honest descriptions, leaving you with a real sense of curiosity as to what caused the bronze age collapse. Make sure you check out the underground path to the well (near the back of the site).

Everyone get a photo of that famous rock above the gate to the fortress/town. Walking in a site where people lived 3000 years BC makes you feel special. One part of this site is a museum building with a loooot of informations about Mycenaean society. If you are into history don t miss the opportunity to stop by at this amazing place!

Beautiful place. Full of history. All in all, quite well preserved to be at least 3300 years old ... The strong wind helps you feel less heat. 2 tips: go in the morning and bring plenty of water.

The great Mycenae with its cyclopean acropolis, the suggestive tholos tombs, the much-photographed gate of the lions ...
Who knows if there really were an Agamemnon and a Clytemnestra, but the charm of this place has remained (almost) intact over the millennia.
Wear sneakers not too worn and a hat against the summer sun, bring water and arm yourself with patience: the site is large enough to allow you to find your quiet corner to breathe all the charm, especially if you choose a time ( very early or rather late) not too frequented by the inevitable tourist buses.

An unforgettable experience especially for those who know the ancient legends, stories and history of Greece! The vestiges of a very old civilization, autonomous and powerful. The lions carved above the main gate are unique in Europe!

Every time I go back visiting Mykini I find something new in one of the places the most drenched in mith and history.
I think that it's not just worth a visit but if you don't go there while in Greece you miss a part of the true spirit of that land

Parts like this make you come closer to the grandeur of the past, in the clever way that our ancestors worked and lived harmoniously with the environment by exploiting what they offered them with respect for it. You are sure to feel about what they had done with the means they had

The entry - The Lion s Gate A piece of worlds history / fascinating place. It takes an effort to get here if not with an organization tour group. Do your reading ahead of time grasp the full impact of what you re exploring. Paths are rocky, elders would benefit from walking poles. Sun hat and sunglasses.

Going to Greece and going back beyond 2,500 years is putting too much imagination on the trip. Too many ruins. It is expendable. Before there is Olympia, Delphos or Meteora. Interesting but expendable.

Citadel inhabited over 3000 years ago with unimaginable technical solutions for us. The images are of a grave of a local personality. The building stones are arranged in order of their size, large ones at the base, and vertically, smaller and smaller!

What a thrill the door of the Lions !! Archaeological site absolutely to see, even if it is not easy to imagine how the city was in ancient times. As the guides advise, it is advisable to visit the museum first to get an idea of the structure of the city and the modernity of the finds found. Do not miss the tombs. The site is completely under the sun so in summer it is good to bring water. Minors enter for free.

It might be important for Greek history... I can understand that... but it's only a ruin of some stones and an explanation of what once was there... I didn't find it worth the travel... the thomb is a total ripoff. 12 Eur for nothing to see except a concrete like room... for the rest nothing....
