A very important archeological site. Not as visually impressive as many others you might visit, but its age is why. There were also many school groups there when I visited, so you have to deal with that. If you have the time, stop there - if you're tight on time, it's not a terrible loss if you've been to the other major sites. The museum is good, however.

A fantastic archaeological site. I have always seen the cyclopean walls, the tholos tombs and above all the lion gate in books. Live is a whole other emotion. Well maintained site and helpful staff. The entrance ticket for adults 12 , free up to 18 years, includes the site, the museum and The Treasure of Atreus which is outside the area.

What to say about our ancient ... They are really nice and well preserved ... When you see them, the memories from the school and all that they see in the history books are awakening. The price for the Greeks is quite expensive. It is good to have some better honor to us so that we can enjoy our History.

What is fascinating in this place is the fact that there the Greek myths and history known from the Iliad and Odyssey become almost real. Visiting the place is like looking into the rooms of Helena, Menelaus, and Agamemnon. Well preserved, for their age, devoid of crowds known from Athens. Beautiful views. I would recommend.

Mycenae is an ancient city located in the northeastern part of the Peloponnese. One of the mythical kings of Mycenae was Agamemnon. In one of the photos I show the alleged grave of this ruler. The so-called tomb of Agamemnon is also called the treasury of Atreus (and the tomb of Clytemnestra). Very interesting in Mycenae are the Mycenaean fortresses located on the hills. Interesting objects can be included
The Lion Gate in Mycenae (photo attached). There are wonderful mountain views from the Mycenaean hills.

I had been listening to his name all my life, watching documentaries that commented on his privileged position, his views of the fertile valley, the structure of its walls ... The house of Agamenon, pupil of Zeus ... But seeing it really ... By all the gods, when I saw it, a chill flooded me from the depths of my soul and for a moment, only for a brief period of time, that citadel took on new life and I watched haughtily. Well? ... You will ask. Yes. I stood up, smiled and exclaimed ... For you, my lady, one hundred masses are made short.

A wonderful space that travels you back in time and creates a sense of admiration for the people who lived and created in both intelligent and at the same time tasteful way.
The visit to the heart of spring has added to the experience wonderful colors and aromas of nature!

Not a huge site but very impressive considering how old this place is. The underground cisterns can be fun exploration. Take a flash light or your phone with the function. Don't miss out the treasury for a quick stop on the way.

One of the archaeological sites concerning the most ancient part of Greek history.
Arriving early in the morning you can thoroughly enjoy the visit, which includes the gate of the lions and the tomb of Agamemnon, as well as the urban layout and the view over the Argolis. It may happen to be accompanied throughout the visit by semi-dandelion dogs as guides.

The archeological site is amazing and it is really worth spending a lot of time to see it but it is really sad that it does not have the necessary staff to keep all the facilities clean.

Superb archaeological site protected by UNESCO. The ruins of Mycenae include the grandiose fortifications called cyclopean walls (which reach 6-8 m in thickness), in which the monumental north-west passage opens the famous Porta dei Leoni.
Beyond the Porta dei Leoni on the right is the Granaio building in use until the destruction of the acropolis. Immediately after the Barn stands the Funeral Club A with 6 royal tombs, from which various objects were found such as: gold masks, bronze swords with gold and ivory handles, daggers decorated in gold, vases and gold jewelery transferred to mostly at the archaeological museum of Athens.
In addition to the ruins of the Royal Palace, the funerary remains are extraordinary, such as the tomb of Agamemnon, the tomb of Clytemnestra, and that of Egisto.
The tomb of Agamemnon also called the treasure of Atreus is located a short distance away and represents a site in its own right. Remarkable the unique museum among the many that I visited in Greece where they have available (among other things free) a reader with headphones to have in-depth explanations regarding the finds.

I loved, I finally got to see the door of the lions seen and reviewed all of the history books and art history. Like many other Greek archaeological sites, in the end it is a mass of stones distributed with a certain sense, but a little something has remained standing here and among the various sites to visit in Greece this I recommend.

From a distance who would have known the difference, between the city Mykene and one of the other mountains nearby. You have to go and see the Treasury of Atreus, but start here and end with the Tomb.
Price for both places is 8 EUR.
It's one of top 10 sights in Greece so come early or late afternoon.
