Cool to see the workhorse steam engines in action! It's also neat to visit the railyard and view the various kinds of rolling stock there. Nice little gift shop at the station, too. I didn't get to ride the day I passed through town, but would enjoy doing so.

WOW....This is one of the best train rides we have been on. We loved it. Staff was friendly and helpful with anything. The stop in the mountains for lunch was great. We will visit again someday. The open car to view everything is awesome.

An employee was my first domestic partner...still love him. Got to ride a special excursion train. Was a memorable experience I even got to help him maintain the trains after hours. The ride either way...or if you're really fortunate...the whole route...is definitely worth it.

My experience there many times were precovid, but I so look forward for another chance. I have ridden the railroad many times as it is one of my favorite times spent there with my family. My name is Roger Browning and I am a writer. I hail from Texas where a ranchers life I still live. I have a new book out now and it is titled, 'The Reckoning of Rance.' It is a story which setting just happens to be my choice of Texas and placed upon a ranch. It is a story of dysfunction and entitlement felt by some and overwhelming protection by others. A family saga that would suit your imagination from just about any life you live just about anywhere. I am telling you because this book will soon be taking me back to Chama, where my love of the narrow guage tracks beckon me there. The clanking rhythm of its laid track as it hits the heavy iron wheel. A rhythm to its song that is very much set in the tone given for writers pen, set to the sound of the metal clack also, of every key punch of the typewriters keys, as only the writer and the tracks spike driver allows for, the driver and the writers fingers to feel. I relax there and I write there. I stay and eat breakfast where sat the famous along with John Wayne. My name is Roger Browning and my new book is out now on amazon and it for your search is titled, 'The Reckoning of Rance.'

Train ride started in Chama winding through the mountains to Oiser, CO where lunch was provided as part of your ticket. Fall colors were spectacular. There was a concession car with adult drinks and an outdoor observation car. The trip lasts around 4 hrs. Our trains locomotive broke down at the summit we were delayed about 2 hrs. waiting for our rescue locomotive to arrive. Beautiful place to be stranded and extra time to have conversations with other guest and train personnel. A must do trip and the fall provides the most beautiful scenery to enjoy

We stopped in here before the train started running in early September, 2020. The yard was completely open and public, so we were able to walk around and see almost everything. The only thing that we couldn t access was the shop because they were currently working, getting things ready for trains to start running in a few days.

The depot was closed but the gift shop was open. The building itself is pristine and historically authentic. We were able to see a diesel engine shunting a few cars around in the yard.

The town of Chama does not have a lot going on, so don t expect too much. But for a train enthusiast, I would highly recommend you stop and walk around here.
