Cork operations house was designed and built in 831ad, to block some of the endless wind and rain that Ireland is known for. Originally it was entirely made of glass, the people of Cork had it rebuilt in 93. Without enough of a budget for the sign, it was shortened to Opera House. Fact.

It's a good theatre with good prices, but the play was totally ruined by the sound of EVERYONE eating candies and snacks from plastic bags sold by them. Trust me, it was a non-stop concert of crackings and people looking around clearly annoyed by that. Sad, because it was the last day of Wizard of Oz and the play was simply amazing.

Sydney Opera house has nothing on Cork. Reasonably priced for most shows its a must for date night or nights out with friends. The cafe is also a great find surprised at how good the food was. Really like the opera house.

Went to see the Bon Jovi experience. I was looking forward to it as we had seen the actual band in 2008 in Punchestown and this band were going to do songs from their early years right up to the present. The songs would be interspersed with actual footage of Bon Jovi. The band were very good. The event was terrible. The bar was open throughout the show which meant people were in and out constantly getting drinks and going out to the loo. Everyone was talking during the performance which caused quite a row a few seats down fom me. It was impossible to hear the video footage. I can't see that this would have been allowed for the likes of a Christy Moore concert for example. We left at the interval it was so bad. I did complain at the time by sending a similar review to this on the Cork Opera House website, and got no reply in return.

Wow!

What a great theatre. Hard to believe that this theatre is more than 50 years old. Constructed in the 60s when there was lots of controversy about the architecture. It has stood the test of time and is being cared for buy a very conscientious board of directors and staff. All the seats in this Theatre have a very good view but I particularly like the balcony which is sloped. The sound is excellent too because of the internal architecture. Last week I attended Madame Butterfly and it was an exceptional performance.
