Visited The Cooper Rose recently with family for a meal. After deciding what we all wanted I went to the bar to order. There seemed to be a communication issue with the Bar Woman, she kept repeating back to me the wrong things so to make sure she had the order correct at the end I went over the order once again. After quite a long wait- which I really don't mind as this usually suggests the food being prepared fresh. We were assaulted by screeching children who were allowed to run riot with no control from their parents who watched them throw food around, scream and shout and never even attempted to control their children or show any consideration to other patrons. I mean these kids were running about well away from their guardians and could and very nearly did cause an accident as customers had to avoid running into the kids as they tried to take drinks back to their table. A staff member came over and we expected her to at least ask politely to control their children and maybe inform the parents/guardians that they were in fact in a bar restaurant and not a creche, however the staff member just nonchalantly began clearing up the mess 'before it got tread in to the carpet' How about the other customers who we noticed were constantly looking over at the comotion and were obviously being distracted from their meals? Not exactly a nice relaxing environment to eat a meal. When the meals finally did turn up it was all wrong- every one of our meals wasn't what we ordered! At this point we all decided that we would never be coming back to the Copper Rose. Awful experience ruined a family get together. We ate up and left and won't be back! There isn't anything I can say positive about our experience at the Cooper Rose.

The food was very good and reasonably priced and most meals you can add either a soft drink or an alcoholic beverage instead for a small additional charge. Really helpful and friendly staff, disability accessible. Near to Sunderland Empire Theatre, Sunderland City centre, The Bridges shopping centre and Park Lane Bus Interchange and Metro Station. The Cooper Rose is well worth a visit either for lunch or night out at the theatre, cinema or just for a group night out for a drink. I'll definitely be going out there again soon for a meal and a drink.

This is a Lloyds bar, which is essentially an upscale part of the Wetherspoon chain, with the only drawbacks being slightly higher prices and occasional loud music. It's a handy venue is you happen to be in the university quarter, also convenient for Park Lane bus and Metro. The food is good, the drink selections are first class. The central area of the ground floor is a sunken dancefloor, which is available for dining in the daytime. There is a first floor which is essentially a gallery around the dancefloor. If you're a connoisseur of Wetherspoon architecture I highly recommend you visit the front of the first floor where the original windows give you a lovely view of the local area.

Ordered the 8oz steak with the surf and turf option. By the time I had cut the fat and gristle off the steak it was more like a 3oz. Chips were stone cold. I complained to the member of staff that served me and she promptly apologised, re-took my order and offered to refill my glass for free. The second order was much better with the food piping hot throughout and a decent steak. Again, I was offered a sincere apology and the member of staff saved the Cooper Rose from getting a critical review of their food.

The toilets were dirty, as were the condiment bottles and when my nana asked if the ketchup bottle could be cleaned please the floor staff wiped the top with his dirty t-shirt he was wearing.

Sunday lunch there today.......no apple sauce with the pork or horseradish with the beef as stated on menu. The food was lukewarm, the gravy, which we had to wait for, watery and also lukewarm. The carrots (which in the past have been described as al dente) were practically raw and the roast potatoes were not cooked through, still hard in the middle. My Yorkshire pudding was a soggy mess and inedible!
Normally enjoy the food here but will never get a Sunday lunch again!

Fairly standard wetherspoons, this one a bit different as it doubles up as a nightlife hotspot on a weekend. I visited day time. Found the beer selection to be disappointing on this occasion, all very similar fayre with nothing exciting. The bar staff frustratingly seemed to only pay attention to one section of the bar, despite it being not overly busy and not that hard to keep even a vague track on who is standing waiting for service.

I often meet up with friends at the cooper rose but the last few times the food has been below it's best. The food yesterday was very enjoyable. I would recommend the buttermilk chicken burger. My friend had a medium rare rump steak which he said was quite tasty. Although it was and almost always is quite dark in there the atmosphere was quiet enough so that we could talk and the staff were pleasant and happy.
Well in addition to the previous review I have to say cooper rose is starting to lose favour with me. I ordered food a few minutes after my friend and mine arrived first and his followed a lot later. His food was cold and my fish was dry. Staff were helpful but seem very overworked.

In the last 8 times we have been for food here we have had an issue. No matter what you tell the staff at the bar the kitchen ignore the additions or changes to your food. On 5 occasions I have asked for an extra hash brown in my girlfriends breakfast wrap and it ends up on my plate not in her wrap. This time we ordered burgers with no salad. They both came with salad and they were luke warm only just cooked. The kitchen staff need to up their game and take responsibility for their work. It's a disgrace

Review of my recent experience - beware , Cooper Rose have been made aware via the correct chancels and have failed to respond

I m writing to make you aware of an incident that occurred on 10th November 2017 at the Cooper Rose in Sunderland between 9pm and 9.15pm, me and my girlfriend came to the Cooper Rose for food and were treated appallingly. We ordered some food and drinks and I had the misfortune of choking on some steak, if that wasn t bad enough we were both asked to leave by your door staff.

To explain a little further this incident happened under the noses of your bar staff and nobody did anything to help me, I spent roughly 30 seconds 45 seconds standing up chocking luckily (forgive the graphic detail) I managed to stick my fingers down my throat and push the steak down unblocking my throat to be able to breathe again, in the process of doing this I vomited on the floor a small amount and went to the toilets to try and recover, only to have a knock on the door by two members of door staff saying they heard I d been sick and that I had to leave.

I explained to the door staff what had happened that I d had a serious choking incident and that resulted in vomiting a small amount I was visibly shaken by the incident, the door staff were not interested in the events that took place and said it is protocol for me to leave, me and my girlfriend were escorted off the premises. What would have happened if a customer suffered from epilepsy having a seizure resulting in vomiting, would they be ignored and escorted off the premises?

Now this has left me feeling disgusted and appalled by the way we were treated, more so concerned to how your staff dealt with a chocking incident and I m concerned about your policies of spotting and dealing with serious incidents like this Sujbconjunctional Haemorrhage (Chocking) where was your staffs duty of care? Just to expand on the seriousness of this incident some more the next day I woke up to burst blood vessels in both eyes and burst blood vessels around my eyes and black eyes plus trauma to my throat. I attended the walk in centre and my local doctors for medical attention and my symptoms are ongoing.
I m sure the full incident will have been caught on CCTV and I would encourage you to look into this as a matter of urgency and investigate because when this happens to another person they might not be as lucky as me to survive choking and have the further misfortune of ill treatment from your staff.

To help identify the incident we were sitting in the upstairs part of the building right in front of the main upstairs bar right in front of your staff I was wearing a dark navy shirt, I must also inform you that I m considering taking legal advice for the safety of others I am left disturbed by this episode and I would first like to hear that Whetherspoons have to say about this?
