Very unprofessional customer service. I have been there once with a scheduled appointment but the very UNHELPFUL receptionist tried to reject me for no reason. I travelled from far away to get some documents done and the receptionist did not even try to sort things out while reading a book. Before my appointment I had a talk on the phone with the same receptionist and the conversation reflected the unprofessional attitude. I had to push to attend my SCHEDULED appointment.

*No help* to a Canadian in distress. I was 10 min. late (two crash delays on the long drive); they could have taken doc.s and fees, worked on it next day. They would not receive - not even the declaration of lost/stolen passport! That left a valid travel document at 4 days' risk of abuse until I could get to the Consulate in L.A. Luckily, folks there were splendid.

Much at S.F. Consulate was a big hassle, but casually ignoring an at-risk passport is to me a severe neglect of duty in today's security-tense world.

Friday July 19, 2019 I made a frantic trip from Sacramento to Consulate General of Canada.
I recently moved from Seattle to Sacramento and the freeways in California were foreboding to me.
I took an, Uber, AMTRAK and a bus to the Consulate. Due to an error by The United State Postal Service my registered passport application was sent to the United Kingdom were it leisurely traveled for 10 day before making the trans Atlantic trip back to the United States and on to Canada. After multiple calls to passport Canada it was received on June 25th and there was no possibility of it being issued in time for my July 24th departure. I placed a call to the Consulate in San Francisco and received a call back from Marni Kellison, Consular Program Manager, Emergency Management Liaisons. Marni was a godsend with a reassuring voice, that calmly told me she would make my trip happen. She scheduled an appointment for the very next morning and talked me through the steps to cancel the application with Passport Canada so I could be issued an emergency passport. I was in a panic in thinking I was going to miss the memorial service for both my parents that had been on hold for a time when all of our family could be together. I am the only one living in the US. Marni was professional and knowledgeable and an extremely warm person. In spite of a few extra glitches she had my temporary passport courier to me and it arrived this afternoon.

From the moment I got off the elevator and stepped through the doors of the Consulate, to the friendly receptionists ,to the framed pictures of the Queen Mother and Our Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. I felt such an overwhelming Patriotism. I am so proud to be a Canadian citizen. Thank you Marni for making it happen. I will have a double double and a butter tart toast to you when I land in Toronto.

I called twice and made sure that walk ins were available for their notary services since I d be making a 2 hour drive. I got there and they told me I needed an appointment. They are so disorganized, unclear about their own policies, and honestly just have no idea what they are doing.

I received a call from this office to get "help" with a situation for which Service Canada referred me. The lady who called me was incredibly, INCREDIBLY rude. She literally said "this sounds like bad planning to me. Our office doesn't help with bad planning" when I was describing a situation that has been making me horribly stressed since my arrival to the US.

I don't care what your personal opinions are keep them to yourself. I'm not calling to get personal, condescending, or disrespectful opinions about my situation. If my situation doesn't apply, that rude lady could have just said that. She would have still reached the same conclusion (i.e., denying me help); she just wouldn't have been so crass and ill-mannered.

For context, I was REFERRED to her from her own office I didn't even call her! I was trying to get my passport updated from the US. But, because it's my only form of identification that I can use here at basic places like banks, DMV, and because I'll otherwise have to send it to Canada if I want to update it outside of the Consulate, I was referred to the Consulate FROM Service Canada to change it from the US instead. It takes 20 business days at least, without shipping each way, for me to receive my new passport. That means I won't be able to have the only form of identification I've been asked to provide at the US for at least 22+ days.

Oh, and her other advice: fly to Canada and update it from there.

Embarrassing and incompetent.

I needed to renew my passport urgently and mailing it in to Canada was not an option. I left a message for the consulate, got a call back in a couple of hours and Julienne asked me to come on down and get the paperwork done for urgent renewal.

I got an appointment for next morning, Julienne took my paperwork and guess what in 3 days I get a call that my passport is ready. Wow !!!! I was super impressed. Love Canada and thank you for doing such a wonderful job at the consulate. Could not have been more pleased.

On a side note, I would have a chat with the front desk receptionist to be less involved in her book and be more helpful to folks coming to the consulate. Most folks who come to the consulate need something urgently or might be in distress. A friendly attitude by the front desk goes a long a way. Other than than, 10 stars.
