Reserved a single bed room but when we arrive was given a double bunk bed, lady at the front counter said there was nothing she could do. Also, they charge you a $100 deposit when checking in (which supposedly is refunded upon check out, haven't got mine back yet and its been 10 days.) Overall, good spot if you need a cheap place to stay, more like a hostel than a hotel though.

Nice and clean basic hotel at a central location (you can walk to most of the places that are interesting for tourists. I wouldn't say cheap, because it's still San Francisco, but relatively less expensive.

This hotel is actually a hostel. Overall an alright stay except for the consistent and horribly annoying tapping sound in the ceiling that seems to have been just specific to our room.. We were so exhausted we didn't think to ask to change rooms, so really some fault lies with us. But otherwise a clean and decent stay, bed wasn't the most comfortable.

Decent hotel just a few minutes from Union Square. Clean sheets and shared showers, small room. The boilers are quite loud so every time somebody takes a shower, you can hear the boiler in the background. It is ok if you are on a budget and want to be at the centre of the city. A better alternative may be Airbnb. 6/10

My 3 nights here were good. Staff members were nice. The place was clean (I did arrive when the cleaning lady was there so that did play a part but the place seems well kept). I have no complaints about my room, all was good. I stayed in a twin bed that had a microwave, mini fridge and a sink. I'm not high maintenance so the noise from the cars/trucks/people passing by the streets at night weren't an issue for me. If I ever come back to San Fran, I'll most likely come back to this place! Try it out

Entrance is a little hard to spot! Be aware that restrooms and showers are shared, but there are plenty on each floor, never had availability issues. Rooms are rather small, but everything was rather clean. A good experience - as long as you come in with the correct expectations. More than sufficient accommodations for attending a conference when a room is just a place to sleep, shower, and keep your things.

The urban is a hostel to be exact, but given the cost of lodging in San Francisco, it is a welcome relief to the $500/night rooms. Most likely a former SRO, now refitted renovated to be rented out as a cheaper option in an otherwise unaffordable city. Suites do not have in room washroom or showers. But there are 2 - 3 washroom and 2 seperate showers and 1 bath on each floor. Rooms are clean but very basic. Hairdryers are available on request. Free popcorn in the evening and free juice in the morning. Due to the limited size of room, there is an eating/lounge area next to reception. Location is great, cheaper eats are found in Chinatown just across the street. Starbucks is downstairs at bush and grant. Closest groceries store with ready meals is probably trader joes about 0.4 miles away. Would I stay there again? Yeah. It was the best value for the area. It is no 4 star hotel, but for the regular non-luxuriously travelled person, it wasn't a bad stay.

Staff was great, both receptionist had jokes. It is an affordable Hotel downtown; therefore, it has extremely small rooms and shared restrooms and showers. There is not breakfast included, so make sure you budget for an extra meal on your trip. The hotel is as nice as it can be and could be described as cozy.

Decent location and pricing for just needing a place to sleep. Right by Chinatown and big name brand shopping stores, 30 min walk to the pier, and overall very convenient. Only downfall was the shared bathroom and shower situation but luckily my room was right by the bathroom lol. They offered juice in the early morning and popcorn in the afternoon and had free coffee and water all day, even had a vending machine for snacks and drinks. Also they have microwaves in the lobby if that interests you and mini fridges in your room. I was only there for 2 nights but I would recommend this to anyone who s gonna be going to San Fran for a few days and don t mind walking to places.

This is your place if you do not want to spend a lot, in my case 200 dollars per night, the bathroom is shared, but I always found it clean and unoccupied because there are several per floor, very small rooms, the good thing is clean, the wifi is very well and it is very very central, key system to open the front door, it is your hotel if what you want is to spend money on things other than ... the hotel !!!!!

Great value! Clean and cozy. In the center of downtown and great for short or oast minute trips. My stay has always been nice and quiet and I rarely run into it her guests so don't expect some party hostel. The place is well staffed with attendants on site all the time.

Considering the price I paid, and the location of Urban Hotel, I give it a 5 star. My bedroom had a single bed, a closet, a desk (with seat and lamp) and sink with mirror. I think there was two shared bathroom/toilets on each floor. I stayed a couple of nights here, and upon arrival, my room was nice and clean. The bathrooms and toilets were well maintained and clean in my experience. Staff are also friendly and helpful

Stayed at this hotel for a week, was good experience. Small room and clean, bit noise because my room is right above starbucks. The shared bathroom and toilet also clean. Fast checkin and checkout.

Walking distance to Union Squares, Apple Store, supermarket and restaurant, and Chinatown gate also in the corner.

Hostel pretending to be a hotel. Very basic rooms, clean and with a sink. Apparently free coffee 24 hours but often ran out of cups, or coffee during my stay. It works if your here for a bargain room as it's well located and it does have amenities but just don't expect any luxuries here apart from free body moisturiser, shampoo, shower gel and conditioner. Oh, and as it's really well located it can be noisy too from the street below. I'm from the city anyway so I managed to sleep fine. But others may have issues.

Shared bathrooms and creaky bunkbeds, but considering the location you can't really beat it for the price. Just don't plan on lounging around; you'll want to be out until you're ready for bed and you'll want to leave once you wake up.

I was in San Francisco for the weekend and was looking for some budget accommodations which is very rare in the expensive downtown area. I found this hotel/motel/hostel like spot and was very satisfied. After reading yelp reviews i was prepared about the shared bathrooms and showers in the hallway. I stayed here 3nights from Saturday through Tuesday and never had to wait to use a bathroom or take a shower. The building and bathrooms were clean and the staff were friendly and helpful. There are no elevators but my room on the 2nd floor was fine. I didnt hear a lot of noise but the walls are a bit thin and you can hear people waking up in the morning. There are several restaurants and stores nearby.

My room was small but perfect for me. It was very cozy and had all the necessities I needed. The room had free WiFi, free cable and a mini refrigerator. There was also a small table and chair with a flat screen tv and twin sized bed. There were options for larger beds. My room didn't have any view which was fine.

They have a small kitchenette area in the common area where they have a microwave and you can get complimentary water, tea and coffee throughout the day and juice in the mornings. They have free popcorn a certain time in the evenings.

The location is within close walking distance to a lot of major touristy spots which I loved since I was in town just to sightsee. It was very easy to navigate to and from. I woud stay here again for a short term stay.

I made reservation online half before check in. This hotel does not provide any parking and hotel is hard to find. I couldn't find hotel since no parking and decided to canceled my reservation but this hotel so far refund to refund my money as I stated thai me and my other will not be dragging siutecases through downtown San Francisco looking for the hotel as we do not feel safe. I would not recommend anyone stay there. stay there

I m not someone who demand a lot. I was aware of the hostel-like amenities of this location.. but as long as the basic necessities are provided and the place is clean, I have no problem. I did enjoy the basic features actually, it took me back nostalgically to my dorm life when I was in college.
Shout out to the young Philipino college undergraduate who worked the Front Desk at night shift.. thanks for your help and hospitality, keep up the good service!
In contrast, the Front Desk morning shift, an Asian/Hispanic middle-aged woman, left a very sour taste in my mouth. From start to finish, she didn t show any smile or warmth. She also made my life difficult. Apparently, they only take credit/debit card deposit payment, which wasn t specified in Expedia where I booked the room from. When I desperately explained I only have cash as an option for me, she reluctantly checked me in, albeit after giving me a lecture. After that, when I asked about the deposit receipt, she replied l there is no receipt, everything is based on trust here.. which I find laughable lol. Only after I suggested making a photocopy of deposit agreement with my signature, I did get it.. but the trainee did it instead of her. Then next day when I was checking out, she gave me $100 bill instead of the 5 $20 bills I deposited. You know how hard it is to not have small bills when buying things or taking transports. So when I asked if she had change for the $100, she just flatly said no , fullstop. No apology, no explanation. I just smiled in disbelief how poor her people/customer skill is and left.

The location is great and it's way cheaper than anywhere else in downtown San Francisco. The staff is also friendly and very responsive to requests. The rooms are small, but they are just right for solo travelers or people who don't need a lot of amenities in their room

Best location, clean, small rooms, nice staff. We thought the shared bathroom on the hallway would be an issue, but it wasn t at all. Enough bathrooms and showers per floor and they are clean. I definitely recommend this place. The price you pay for the stay is fair. They let you leave your suitcases there before check in and after check out.

The location is just perfect as a tourist. You literally walk out and are in the heart of downtown S.F. with Chinatown in front of you, Market just a couple of blocks south, and Embarcadero the same east. The refrigerator is handy if you want to store food to keep costs down (it s a bit noisy mind). Same with the little kitchen area with its coffee and tea facilities and microwave. The staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful at all times.

It may depend on the room but mine (109) was really noisy until quite late at night and from very early in the morning. This is mostly because of the good location as Bush, Grant, and Kearny - the roads that surround the hotel - are major streets that are rarely empty of traffic. Expect horns, sirens and people shouting.

The lack of aircon is a pain but the in-room fan helps a lot. The refrigerator is noisy and the blind lets in light so if you are a light sleeper this might, along with the traffic, be a bad place for you.

Great bargain in San Francisco. The place is spotless. Never had to wait for bathrooms. Enjoyed the free tea, juice and popcorn. Pack light since there is no elevator. Street noise can be relentless, so ask for a room away from the street if you are a light sleeper. I would stay here again.

The Urban Hotel is a fantastic hostel located in a good area of town. Rooms are small but neat and clean. Beds are comfortable.
Note: NO BATHROOM in the room, it's shared toilets and showers in the hall.
No breakfast included, but they serve popcorn in the afternoon.
Great place to stay at if you're here to expore town.

A very clean and quiet place. I was afraid of sharing showers and toilet with other people but the staff always keep the facilities very clean so I didn't feel uncomfortable at all. We had a little trouble with the payment, the bedroom has no air conditioner so its very warm unless you open the window. The soda machine was out of order, so one night there was no bottle water anywhere in the hotel so I had to go out at 2am looking for a place to buy water.

It s a really wonderful place for someone traveling alone! You can have your own little but clean room here. And sharing the clean and comfortable shower room and restroom. Not to mention the price was very cheap! The location also made me very satisfied! You can easily reach Chinatown and Union Square. Besides, people here are very nice to consumers , they really took care of me a lot! Thanks everyone in this hotel! I had a such perfect experience to stay here in my San Francisco trip

My first stay at a hostel, and I was really impressed! This place is very clean and modern. Everything feels new. And there's a lot of security... the front door is locked with a key code, the guest rooms are electronically keyed with a keycard, and there are security cameras everywhere. From what I saw, there is a private bathroom and a private shower for each floor of the hostel... They both are single-person only so you never feel like you're having to share with a stranger. The desk clerk was very friendly and helpful. The rooms are very small but that are outfitted with essentials: bed, closet with hangers, sink, soap, vanity/cabinet, towels and easy cloths, TV with cable, and a fairly comfortable bed. My room had a window facing the street, which let in the lights and sounds of the city (cool, but tough for sleeping). The walls were also fairly thin. But I'm a light sleeper and always carry ear plugs with me when I travel, so I slept fine. For the price, you really can't beat this place, and the location really is amazing. I'd recommend to any friends and business associates needing to stay in the Bay Area.

I chose this hotel because from the reviews it had the best value for money.
After staying there for two nights, I must say that the experience was more or less as I expected: the common areas are not bad, with a small kitchen and a sitting area near the reception.
Even the common showers are not bad, since they are clean and with shampoo and soap made available to customers by the managers.
I have always found the toilet quite clean, except on the last day.
The room is very small, and with very dirty carpet, because it was stained also by probably indelible stains.
In the room you also find a small sink, which in the end proved to be very convenient.
You can leave your luggage in their storage.
The staff are friendly and helpful.

Very centrally located, but also limited to the poorest. The rooms are really tiny, if you travel in pairs, it will be difficult to get both suitcases there. It is cleaned once a week, but very clean. For one to two nights completely adequate, but if you want to stay longer, you should look for an alternative.

Great place in a fantastic location a short distance from China Town and close enough to walk to the piers! Rooms were spotless and the bathrooms and showers were excellent. Will be staying here again on our next visit

Location was great, near China Town and public transportation. Room was what I expected for San Francisco, small but they were still nice. Had a heater, fridge, sink, closet, desk. Service was good, really helpful front desk when I called with questions. They had some coffee and juice in the mornings, and popcorn in the evening. The shared bathrooms snd showers were kept clean. The only thing not so clean was our towels. It got a little noisy being a city near a pretty busy street. Overall, it was a pretty good stay.

Room very noisy. The closing of the doors Maga loud. Street noise was clearly heard. The advertised orange juice was also not although it was pointed out. Otherwise reasonably clean. Sufficient toilets and showers available. Room was a bit poor.

Good value for location, friendly & helpful staff. The staff helped to resolve some minor issues, recommend places to visit (& avoid!) and also break some notes up for us for public transport tickets. Location is good because it's walking distance to various public transports. The beds, bath, toilet & facilities were basic and a little old but clean. Importantly, we had a comfortable night's rest after spending many hours exploring San Francisco during the day.

It has shared common areas, shared kitchenette if you feel like making yourself a drink or microwaving food, and shared toilet (washrooms) and shower facilities. You do get a nice room to yourself which is big enough for a simple traveller; there's a sink, mirror, cupboard space, towels and TV. In a sense, it's an upscale hostel. I found the facilities to be well kept and very clean. It wasn't busy at all and I only saw one other traveller. I also got a room on the first floor and the window was good enough to muffle the traffic noise outside. I am a deep sleeper though so I definitely had no issues with noise. Price wise, it's between a hostel and a hotel so it really boils down to what you would want to pay. As I was traveling alone, I felt this was the right choice for me.

It can be said that the cost performance is good in expensive San Francisco. As you can see, hotels in San Francisco are very expensive. So I chose here too.
First of all, the rooms are very clean. And although I use the shared bathroom shared toilet, I think it is clean. Because it is used by one person, it is enough without having to meet others at all. However, the air in the room is a little cold. And there is also some sound insulation.
Still, I am comfortable and go.

Definitely feels more like a hostel than a hotel. Shared bathrooms and showers, noise rules and small rooms. The worst part was small flies in the communal shower. Worth the extremely low price for the area though.

I can't knock this too hard as I didn't read up on how hostels work, but that was partially due to the word "hotel" in their name.

That said, you do not want to come here if you enjoy the following:
1. A bathroom and shower in your room
2. A window that is from this century that blocks out street noise. In other words, being able to sleep through the night.
3. Doors that block out the bright hallway light.
4. Amenities like a clothes iron or hair dryer.

This place would be fine for anyone on a vacation or adventure, but not for someone who needs to relax between business days.

Besides that it was clean enough.

Have everything you need just when you get there. Good bed, sink on the room, good bathrooms and showers. Just a tad little expensive, that's why I recommend you get it right when you arrive to rest a bit and than head to a hostel if you're going to stay more than 5 days.

Small rooms with cleaning service only on Fridays and shared bathrooms but great quality, very nice style and friendly helpful staff. Definitely worth the price. Great location as well.
