One of the Top 10 meals I've had. Turtle Soup @ Quail - most excellent!
Love this place! Great food, knowledgeable staff, fun wines. This is one of our favorites.
Good, food and service, not intimate, freezer burn on the bananas foster. If you miss this one don't loose any sleep
Superb Service, fantastic delicious food. You owe it to yourself to come here. Pork chop and pan fried fish dish were outstanding! Omg! We had the deserts strawberry short cake and bread pudding souffle . Outstanding as well! A cut above award wining fine dinning experience!
I eat here as often as possible. Problem is, I live in Chicago. So it is a special trip every time I visit NOLA. But I am not writing about the Restaurant, I am writing about their Commanders Kitchen cook book. You see, My wife and I were due to arrive in the City on Mother's Day. Thanks to Covid-19, those plans were cancelled. So, to make Mother's Day special, I decided to cook from my favorite cookbook. I acquired some beautiful JUMBO shrimp at our local monger, and put together Shrimp and Tasso Henican. The recipe is so beautifully written, so clear in execution, I was able to create a dish that Miss Adelaide would savor...
As a result my wife reported that It was the BEST MOTHER'S DAY BREAKFAST EVER!...Just wanna say thanks for the Lagniappe..
This is a late post, but I had to share. I went here back in October and was amazed with the exceptional customer service. We went there for brunch with $.50 martinis. I had the gumbo which was the 2nd best I had in my NOLA adventures. For entree I had the chicken which was seasoned just right.
Recent Sunday Brunch was unequalled. Flawless service, mouthwatering food along with table side jazz. What more could want? A table in the garden room. We had that too!!!!
Everything we had hoped it would be. Delicious food, spectacular service, they know how to make your visit special
Amazing service, atmosphere, and food! Love it and will come back again
The food was exceptional, but let's get into the customer service. When my party and I arrived, there was a crew waiting for us. They opened the car door, greeted and quickly led us to our table. We even a tableside prep of bananas foster for dessert, that was absolutely delicious.
I have been to 32 states and 27 countries. This is the best restaurant I have ever eaten at. Service is spectacular, every bit of food exceeded expectations, wine list was extraordinary. Go out of your way to visit.
This is a culinary experience not to be missed! Everything was amazing. Be sure to reserve for brunch well in advance, they are very popular and so worth it!
We had a wonderful time celebrating our Honeymoon here!! From walking in the door, to the food, to the server, to leaving...it was all amazing! Darren and James were great and true pleasures! Thank you so much for making it such a special and memorable night!
The food is amazing, the bread souffle is out of this world, and the 25 cent martinis are ridiculously tasty.
Amazing and astounding. The service was great and you will almost never find anywhere better. You may feel a bit undressed etc like we did. Still everyone made us feel welcome. Got the turtle soup.. was rich and unique and very good. Came with the 3 course tasting at a great price of $39 with my FRESH sweet crawfish tails in a very perfect sauce. Nice amount if food too. Also had 24 Oz ribeye. Was very good but a bit fatty. Was $45. The creme Brule with my 3 course was fantastic. Everything presented beautifully. You will not be disappointed and prices feel like half what you would in similar establishments. Do consider dress though!
What can be said that has not already been said about Commander s Palace? Food, drinks, service, and environment all exquisite, and the Sunday Jazz brunch was everything we had hoped for and more - a perfect slice of New Orleans. Can t wait for our next visit!
Mixed Bag, Mostly Up. I heard the kitchen is in a transition.
The staff took great care of us. Jay, Jeremy, Taylor, and Ernest all made us feel like one of the family. Food was great but the service made it a great experience.
Great experience! Didnt have the best waitor at first, but the second it was mentioned the other staff jumped right in and took care of us 100%. The food was wonderful! Afterwards, our waitor took us on a tour of the building and told us the history. Very memorable first time experience in NOLA!
Very overrated. Food was good but nothing special compared to some of the other places we have eaten in New Orleans (e.g Mr B's) Service was also incredibly average. Not sure what the hype is?
Delicious meals but slightly overpriced. 25 cent martinis make it so nice!
Unbelievable service, bar was great, food was amazing! Best of the night was the filet, shrimp was delicious, drum was great!
classic. don't miss the opportunity to come to this place.
Celebrate a birthday or special occasion. Don't miss the bread pudding. Enjoy!
The staff is fake-nice to the customers but quite rude to people just passing by.
They know swervice. Before I sat down they said well I'm in or thanks for coming in 7 times. Took my drink after 2 sips and gave me another one 12/10 stars and gave me a free drink
What an awesome establishment. Try the Turtle Soup , not my thing normally but it was tasty and novel. Definitively have the Pecan Crusted Gulf Fish just awesome.
Gumbo was tasteless gravy redfish strong and not fresh. Surprisingly the reviews do not represent this restaurant if only I had talked to others would have saved my money
Great cuisine and great customer service. Thank you from Women In Film and Television-Louisiana!
Delicious food, wonderful ambiance, and thoughtful staff what more could you ask for?
Great food. Great service... but for that price I was expected to be wowed. It did not help that the bathroom was super dirty.
Reveillon menu was good especially the soup course and the short ribs.
Loved it but being brown u feel ur being watched by the other guest, 50 cent Martini I think it was awesome and strong lot of my favorite Chefs have worked here and it was an honor to step in the same foot steps as they did
Located in the garden distract. Great Jazz brunch during the weekend. Make a reservation ahead of time
Commanders, as it affectionaly referred to by locals is one of the best restaurant New Orleans has to offer. There are only a hand full that can be put I'm the same class as Commander's Palace.
Amazing! One of the best meals I have ever had with amazing, witty waiters. I went once for a rehearsal dinner and can't wait to go back.
Had the beef. And the bread pudding it was so amazing...the portion was to small for my taste but omg was it good. The staff is sooo friendly and very charming..def a place to go
The service was insanely good! From the moment we stepped foot in the door. Zack, Erin and Gabriel, ya'll are top notch, yo! My family can be...how do i put it nicely? A bit much...y'all didn't blink an eye over it. Bravo. The entire staff was amazing actually. I had a guy with a giant tray of food in his hands insist on opening the door for me. I wanted to hold the door for him! The food was obviously stellar, but the service..shoo...im from the Westbank, we don't get this kind of treatment past the Crescent City Connection. Its a New Orleans institution for a reason ya'll. Just go already. Ask for Gabriel, he's the dude with the killer tie. Zack is super nice and a amazing host. Erin is quick to help and has great taste in eye wear. Hard working guys! Props. Sincerely, The chick in the corner with the loud, demanding, way to chatty family.
OMG. Seriously good food! Awesome service. Soooo much money but soooo with it.
We came for Monday brunch, and after sharing nearly everything on the menu, I can confidently say that you can't go wrong. The space is comfortable and the service is great.
A few tips:
Mind the dress code.
Ask for a table in the "garden room" when making a reservation.
Try the turtle soup if you like spice.
I did not think it was any pricier than the other restaurants we dined at. Very food food and service. And you get to know what they mean when they talk about Commanders on NCIS...lol.
We made reservations to Commander's Palace to celebrate my birthday and this was also my first visit. The experience was amazing. We were seated on the top floor and had a view of the courtyard. The table was decorated with balloons to celebrate my birthday and the meal was excellent. We were well taken care of during the meal and dessert was presented with a candle and the celebration hat. When I inquired about the courtyard, one of our servers offered to arrange a tour of the wine cellar and kitchen. That topped off an amazing evening complete with a meeting with Commander's sommelier who taught us about some of the vintages they keep. Every thing about this evening was special. I would definitely recommend for special events. We hope to return and sit at the Chef's table in the future!
Probably the best bread pudding I ve had. Bread are baked onsite. The food portion is very small, but it s good. Typical entree is $40. Their customer service makes this restaurant stand out.
It s a good place to go sparingly.
This place came highly recommended by both friends that knew New Orleans very well, as well as some locals. It did not disappoint!
The service was beyond exemplary. I've done my share of done dining, but I've never had them replace my water glass because it started to perspire.
The drinks were quite tasty, and very reasonably priced. In fact, while the entrees are rather pricey (and worth every penny), everything else was reasonably priced.
But the entrees... If there is duck on the menu, 95% of the time, I'm ordering it. This was the best prepared duck I've ever had. My wife got the fish in an amazing butter sauce with prosseco poached crab meat. If they are still serving the bread pudding souffle, just go ahead and order it. Trust me & you're welcome.
Not sure where all these 5 stars are coming from. Have people actually experienced what fine dining is meant to be? Employing an archaic dress code in an old mansion and over priced menu does not mean you are fine dining.
We dined last night and were terribly disappointed. Recommendations and reviews would lead you to believe this is the finest restaurant experience in the South. It is not.
We were escorted upstairs to a room that hasnt been updated since the early 80s (lattice on mirrors anyone??), seated on a sofa like something from a Sizzler. The room itself looked like something from a suburban local social club. I half expected a buffet table to be in the corner. It was loud and packed . I normally wouldnt mind that but when an establishment advertises itself as the best in New Orleans you expect something classier - oh yeah and guys in torn jeans, what happened to your famous dress code? Were we sent up here as I didn't have a suit jacket?? I got the feeling they may have segregated the crowd as downstairs seemed to have a nice ambiance.
Anyway, service was great, so no problem there. Our servers were attentive and friendly.
The food though? The bread was obviously not baked on site. The Turtle soup was meh. The main (gulf fish) was good but not sure why it was $10-$15 more than some other establishments in town. The most enjoyable thing consumed was the wine!
I wonder if the experience is different downstairs, but upstairs felt like being packed into a local diner from the 80s with sub par over priced food. The friendly hospitality 9f our server is the only thing that gets this place a pass mark. Hey, I wouldn't have minded the whole experience usually but the expectations did not match the reality and paying $400 for such an experience nearly made me vomit.
p.s. iron your table cloths and use table scrapers and tear down that ugly lattice!!
Couldn't have been better. Their attention to detail is amazing!
Excellent. We went today for lunch and had the soup 111 which was turtle soup, gumbo, and a corn bisque. All three were excellent. We had martinis and coffee to drink as well as I had the bbq shrimp dish. And my husband had the pork porterhouse. We were ecstatic with our meals. We also had the pecan pie a la mode which was good but unexceptional. The crust was a little tough.
The service was excellent although we did find Gabriel to be a little too over the top, although he seemed to pick up on our feeling and was intuitive enough to back off a bit. Which we appreciated.
Great experience all around.
I work there when I was going to collIlege probably the best when i was hoing to Tulan.
Came for Birthday celebration. The service is impeccable, when Lally Brennan come's to your table to wish you a Happy Birthday... Our food was incredibly delicious, every course! Make sure to reserve a table for Sunday Jazz Brunch, the Jazz trio came to each of our tables to take requests, another wonderful touch. Thank you for the wonderful memories.
Amazing!! Awesome service, Randy was great! Delicious food!! Will be back again!
Visiting New Orleans from Montana, did the tasting menu and it was so, so good. Randy was our waiter and the service was AMAZING.
My daughter took me there for lunch. Service was excellent EVERYTHING was delicious. Free valet parking. I will be going back
Impeccable service and excellent food. Beautiful dining area with an upscale, lively atmosphere. The catfish salad was fantastic and the strawberry shortcake is a must try for dessert. Also, you can't beat the 25 cent martinis! After your meal you can take a walk through the kitchen that leads to a gorgeous outdoor garden area. Plan to make a reservation well in advance as tables can be hard to come by, especially with larger parties.
Outstanding as always. Love the shrimp, okra, tasso and pepper jelly appetizer. So did my wife, so I had to share. The court boullion had exquisitely cooked black drum. The tostada with pork melted in your mouth. The house wine was delightful and the service matched. If you have never been, you have to go.
This was our first time here and what a great way to start off our birthday week in New Orleans with a jazz brunch here. From the moment we walked in the front door to the moment we left, service was exceptional. From customer service to food, and the jazz band, we felt very looked after and Samantha, Kendall and Claudia were very caring and attentive. Can't wait to return again for dinner experience!
Great food and service is impeccable. Do dress up a bit if you want to feel more comfortable.
I can NEVER not get enough of this gem of a restaurant
Sumptuous dining, superlative service, from start to finish. Not only do they clear the table of crumbs between courses but they change out sweaty water glasses as well. Lunch for two, with numerous cocktails, and appetizers, came to $67 before tip. If I lived in New Orleans I'd be back on a weekly if not a bi-weekly basis. Kudos! Especially loved that the manager or GM came by to personally greet/thank each table, asking about the items they had in front of them. Very personal touch. Reminds me of Canlis in Seattle, but much more reasonably priced. Ought not miss.
My husband & I have been wanting to try this place out since our second trip to New Orleans. We finally made it there on our fourth trip & were a bit disappointed & even regretted spending our money there. First of all, our server was fairly inattentive to our needs & the few times she did come by to ask how we were doing, she rushed back off without allowing us a chance to even answer. The food was mediocre, including the lobster bisque (I've tasted better store- bought bisques) & the 'garlic bread' that was served before the meal. The atmosphere was decent but nothing out of this world to warrant mandatory formal attire. The price we paid for the food was definitely not worth it & we will not be going back for those reasons.
I had a cousin come into town and she asked me to go back here. Feeling here is like a restaurant in Fort Worth I liked.
Beautiful ambience especially upstairs with a gorgeous view. Delicious local flavors and top notch service with a Southern flare. Visited the first time with family from Macon, Elberton, and Augusta Georgia and my husband from Galliano Louisiana, and we all felt right at home with the friendly Welcome greeting and relaxed Southern charm!
We all loved the soup trio appetizer with turtle soup and gumbo, and every entree was amazing from the fish and seafood to steak and chops. I don't recall a kids menu, but my 10- and 12-year-old nieces found something they could enjoy too - something with shrimp and totally devoured despite the generous portions. Dessert was the bomb - especially the bread pudding and blueberry crisp! The cocktails with shades were really also fun.
I'll have to visit again soon to try the tasting menu - a must-do for locals and tourists! Don't forget your selfies and group photos with the Commander's Palace Sign - a classic New Orleans icon!

Food is delicious and the atmosphere is nice. Very friendly staff and fancy setting
Always a wonderful dining experience. Starting with Jimmy and Sandra making our reservations right on up to our special table in the garden room to the excellent service and the the outstanding menu from beginning to end with their decadent dessert. It is our goal to for all special occasions to just a special afternoon with our grandchild, Thea. Thank you Commander's and Miss Lally for making us feel like family.
Great vibe buzzy busy place reasonably priced good cocktails. Skip the 25c martinis and opt instead for a five dollar signature cocktail.
Best service I have received and the food was amazing! Can't beat the $0.25 martinis at lunch.
Phenomenal service and food. A must if visiting and wanting to go out for a nice dinner.
Great experience. Superb service in beautiful surroundings. We were upstairs in a glass walled room, it was like being in the trees! I had the pecan fish, excellent, not too large portions. Strawberry shortcake for dessert was great. I was shocked how reasonable prices were after hearing about their reputation. Great all around!
Food could have been better for the price. Service was great. One time place for me to eat at. I can say been there done that wont do it again
This was an absolute highlight of our trip to New Orleans. The food was spectacular and the service spot-on: attentive without being obsequious. We enjoyed the trio that serenaded each table in turn, and their good humor and musical prowess. It was a birthday, so a special occasion, and Commander's Palace did not disappoint!
Always
One of the very best The Crescent City offers. Kindell and Lauren a great Captain and front waiter
An amazing dining experience, both in terms of service and food. There is almost no point recommending a specific dish because everything we tried was superb. It is very pricey, but if you are able to have lunch on a weekday you can save a significant amount of money on your entree. And you can enjoy the 25 cent martinis (limit three per person, "cause that's enough")
A must when in New Orleans excellent wait staff and great cuisine
Excellent New Orleans classic establishment! Outstanding food, terrific wine and phenomenal service. I could have sworn there was one waiter per table ;).
