"Columbia Engineering" as the Fu Foundation SEAS is known offers excellent undergraduate Engineering training in many fields, with a rigor and scope comparable to peer "Engineering focused schools". The training of Engineers in a liberals arts environment, and in the city of New York, creates a terrific cocktail for unparalleled creativity and imagination to solve real world problems . The quality of research output by the PhD students, post-doc and professors is first rate in the disciplines where Columbia pursues, though the Engineering fields covered is not as comprehensive as in "primarily technical universities". The time -to PhD appears longer at Columbia than peer institutions in some engineering disciplines and this requires attention for improvement.
