Clinical Directors Network: Enhancing Health Equity and Public Health through Clinical Research
Clinical Directors Network, Inc. (CDN) is a not-for-profit clinician membership organization, practice-based research network (PBRN), and clinician training organization that was founded to provide peer-initiated activities for clinicians practicing in low income, minority, and other underserved communities. CDN’s overall goal is to translate clinical research into clinical practice for the enhancement of health equity and improvement of public health.
With over 25 years of experience in the field, CDN has become a leading force in promoting evidence-based medicine among clinicians serving vulnerable populations. The organization’s mission is to improve healthcare delivery by providing education, training, and support to clinicians who work with underserved communities.
One of the key features that sets CDN apart from other organizations is its focus on community-based participatory research (CBPR). This approach involves engaging patients and community members as active partners in the research process. By involving those who are most affected by health disparities in the design and implementation of studies, CBPR ensures that research findings are relevant to their needs and priorities.
CDN’s PBRN model also allows for rapid dissemination of new knowledge among its members. Through its network of over 1,500 primary care providers across New York City's five boroughs as well as Nassau County on Long Island; Westchester County; Hudson Valley Region; Western New York State; Connecticut; Massachusetts; Rhode Island; Pennsylvania; Maryland/DC/Virginia area - CDN can quickly disseminate new findings from clinical trials or other studies directly to those who need it most.
In addition to conducting research studies themselves, CDN also provides training opportunities for clinicians interested in learning more about evidence-based medicine. The organization offers workshops on topics such as patient-centered care, quality improvement strategies, cultural competency training for healthcare providers working with diverse populations.
Another important aspect of CDN’s work is advocacy at both local and national levels. The organization works closely with policymakers to ensure that healthcare policies are equitable and address the needs of underserved communities. For example, they have advocated for increased funding for community health centers which serve many low-income individuals without access to traditional medical services.
