This company is does not care about their customers! I was cut off within 3 days of receiving my bill in the mail. No warning, no email and not even as much as a call. I called thinking it was a power outage. It s very unethical to cut electric to a family in the peak of summer.

Your company cut my power off to replace the pole. When the power was reconnected, my AC will not work. After calling about this, the company told me it wasy responsibility to pay an AC repairman. Really?
Cancelled service because I moved and tried to pay the final bill. It wouldn't let me. Customer service kept transferring me to the automated western union. They literally cant fix problems they just transfer you over and over.
I have had multiple different electric companies in different residences and Clay is the worst. Realistically, electric is electric so the product is the same but the customer service makes a huge difference. Clay Electric Cooperative has the worst customer service ever. Every representative is snarky, indifferent and reluctant to help as if they are allergic to being productive. If I could change electric companies I would. If I could go solar, I would.
Very rudu, racist company with majority white southern employees. They cut my service at 3pm today without final courtesy call, text email. Unbelievable racist county Clay in general, Have house 20 years in Clay and that us the way to appreciate my loyalty. Can't wait to move out from this County.
Based on comments, when the power is on, they're heros and when they power goes out, they're zeros. Always had good service from CE. Even during hurricanes, our service is restored same day it goes out. Of course, all our feeder lines are underground.
Went to get a Certificate of Occupancy from Clay County, stated they needed the Meter # on the building I was renting. I have received 5 Certificate of Occupancy over the last 6 years, and have never been asked for the meter #s. Called Clay Electric x 2. Held for over 5 minutes to get to a human, gave the address for the meter #, and was told "We don't give this information out." Explained I was sitting at the GCS Certif of Occp Dept & they are telling me to call you to get the meter # information. Was put on hold and the female came back & stated again, "We don't give out that information" & then hung up on me. I called back because GCS Certif of Occp states this IS where you get the meter # information from. I had Clay Electric on speaker with the GCS Permit Dept, telling me that Clay Electric must give me this information. This time the female states, "We don't give this information out" and hung up on me a 2nd time. Clay Electric, was not even trying to be helpful, and it was extremely rude to be hung up on. Clay Electric & GCS Permit Dept need to work together, and get their information requirements together for business owners.
The coop is absolute garbage. Horrible service, horrible outage notifications, and a horrible phone system. They don't answer phones or it's just a busy signal anytime there is a power issue. No way to report outage as the website gives me an error eachtime I try. Garbage regulations in Florida allow these monopolies to continue and we suffer as the end user. Garbage.
Literally the WORST customer service I have ever experienced. My power has now been off for over 8 hours, all the food in my fridge has spoiled and my dog is sitting in a very hot room because it's 1000 degrees outside. Honestly considering moving so I don't have to deal with them ever again.
I've had this service for two years. Never had an issue with customer service. Every phone call has been pleasent. I have never had anyone not willing to work with me if I needed.
Unfortunately, I agree with other reviewers. After two days in a row of outages without any reason at all to have one, I decided to post this in hopes one day someone will do something. Our power goes out frequently without wind, rain, or any reason a power outage typically occurs. In reality, those with outages would have no idea what has occurred for the outage to happen. I grew up on a lake in a very rural area where you could expect the power to go out frequently with just wind or rain, but it was nowhere this bad. We have a young son and a baby on the way and running a power service that just doesn t work half the time in communities full of families is completely unacceptable. I have no clue how this company s head can sleep at night.
I have generally had a good experience in dealing with Clay Electric, but I OPTED OUT of participating in Operation Round Up online, and they are still charging me the fee. I am trying again--their website opt out seems straight forward, but it didn't work the first time.
Worst electric company yet!!! I ve been waiting over 4 hours for my power to get switched back on after a bs disconnect and I ve seen 4 electric trucks on MY ROAD and asked 2 if they could connect me to a very disrespectful no !!!! Hate them I have a 18 month old baby girl and it s getting very hot in the house with all the doors and windows open, they are purely pathetic people and employees
I'd like to start to say that I've lived in many states over the past 60 years of adulthood. I love living in Clay county.............but the reliability of Clay Electric cannot be rivaled in it's haphazard dependability. I can be sitting in the house on a beautiful day with an afternoon cocktail...a slight breeze, partly sunny. the type of day that warms one's heart. Zap!!! Power's out. Why is the question. No storm, no wind....it's just Clay Electric. The last time I talked to someone about the outage he said a squirrel made the transformer blow, the other time was a twig fell on a power line...............I 'am I living in India for Pete's sake. Fix the problem people.
My computer needs special protection because I have Clay Electric as my provider. Someone needs to take charge and fix this!!
Live around Black Creek. Used to be quiet but it's getting busier with more people moving in.
Power goes out any time there's rain or wind. It's amazing how they (Clay Electric) keep adding new homeowners to their power grid, yet can't keep the power running during a normal afternoon shower, nor can thay properly take care of people who have been living here for 40+ years.
---------- 6/12/20 Review
Takes over seven 'Now ten!' days to come out and change a light bulb? Come on...
(Update) They came out on the tenth day, a few hours after I updated my review from two stars to one... Thanks for spending the five minutes it took to change a lightbulb, but it's still too late to redeem yourselves of any stars.
Note: To top it off, another guy came out to change the light bulb (after it was already replaced) and seemed very confused as to why it had already been replaced; meaning they don't even communicate with each other very well. The guy wasn't aware someone had already come out and replaced it!
It's just a bunch of miserable people working for a a corrupt company that nobody can do anything about because you only have one option in Orange Park.
I've lived in Clay for over 40 years. But I am married to a lineman who builds transmission lines, so we travel for his job. Needless to say we have lived all across the United States and never have we found a better power company! Some were as good as Clay Electric, but not better. Those of you who complain, need to do some major research on power companies and transmission lines. These guys leave their families behind to work in conditions that most of you simply could not handle. On top of it Clay also has the lowest rates in our state. Thank you Clay Electric Coop!!!!
Put a box next to a lake or pond and buy some candles. You will have better luck with those things over the failed services this company can't provide.
Requested payment extension by phone. Was not notified I would be charged a late fee. Nor does it state on their website that a late fee will be assessed for a payment extension. Unethical and corrupt business practice.
Utterly incompetent: our power goes out if it rains a little too hard, and has now gone out IN COMPLETELY NORMAL WEATHER. I'd give them 0 stars, but it won't let me.
Let's get another electricity supplier in Clay County now! Let's get some competition going so we don't have to give money to a monopoly that doesn't provide adequate service to its customers(victims).
Constant outages and takes forever to get power back working. This place can singlehandedly raise the stock price of generator companies. If you live in the area during a natural disaster, know you are going it alone as far as power supply.
Absolutely atrocious service. We have had ten power outages in the last month and a half. I have never been forced to use such an awful electric provider. Honestly you deserve to be sued at this point. You are making people pay for a service you do not actually provide. Even light rain causes power to go out. 3 of the outages have been severe. I ve gotten better service from other electric companies during a hurricane. I encourage EVERYONE on here to write a grievance with the BBB. This is by far the worst power company I have ever seen.
I pay my bill every month, no problem even during covid not one missed payment even though we struggle we pay our bills. I am very unhappy with the service. Every week sometimes twice a week the power goes out. It causes work from home to be lost. Meaning money lost. After numerous attempts to call always busy . The line is busy. I know normal have no say so because there is no other power company to compete but thought I would share my thoughts.
They will not listen to you. You try to tell them what you need and they interrupt you and are horribly rude. Terri in New Service is amazing. Try to get her to help you.
Was out of town from 30th August to 18th September, had everything unplugged and ac turned off and I manage to have the same bill? How on earth do I have the same electric bill? I only used 10 days of power out of thirty and Irs the same? Bunch of scam artists.
Horrible. I shouldn't be without power this often. I have lived in my new location for 2 months and the power has gone out at least 5 times with the average outage being 1- 4 hours. You suck. This is ridiculous.
After the recent events and poor customer service we are planning on selling our house next year and moving out of their service area. We had a customer service agent call us yesterday morning and tell us we have had power for the last two days which was not the case and when we advised her of that she said well don't have a eta but are working on it. I do not understand how they are not even clear who has power and who doesn't. Our culdasac has been out since 5pm Sunday. We are fortunate to have somewhere to stay but feel for the people who don't on these 95+degree days. We have had power outage issues since moving to their area last year. Even in summer afternoon rain showers the power goes out.
They are very friendly at the office and helped out when I really needed it. Yes we have more power outages then I had with Progressive/Duke but Clay Electric cares about their customers! Besides most outages are taken care off within a couple minutes!
I called just before closing time to set up new service and had a very pleasant experience. I was helped by a women who's name I believe was Wanda. She was very pleasant and professional.
Working in customer service I know these guys go through a lot, so I try to be as nice as can be when I call but I'm always met with a passive aggressive representative. She used terminology only someone working in her field would understand and treated me like an idiot when I told her I didn't know what she meant.
It s sad I m fighting Covid 19 and my electric goes off! For 100$ it s really sad that when I called to see why they told me they cut it off because of non pay. Mind you I just paid 260$ on 7/16 they never even gave me a courtesy call! I don t mind paying the bill it s the insensitive company and rude agents that get me smh shame on clay electric at a time like this give your residents a call.
Worst service I have ever had with a power company. Rude customer service and my power goes out once a week for no reason. Every time it rains expect your power to go out for hours at a time. It can be perfectly sunny outside and the power will go out all day until they fix it. I am going to have to move to get better service as they told me I have no other power options but them here in middleburg. I had JEA for years and never had outages like they have. HORRID COMPANY!
I've never had so many power outages like I have had since moving to Margaret's walk in Fleming island.. I've lived here exactly a month and the power goes out EVERYTIME there is a little weather.. (3-4 times a week) it's ridiculous, it usually comes back on with in the hour but having to reset all the clocks, the modems, the sprinkler system timers and it always seems to happen right in the middle of cooking dinner (summer afternoon thunderstorms are usually the reason the power goes out) When I call to complain they always tell me I have to call back in the morning, the customer service reps sound like they could care less (almost on par with Comcast customer service really)...
4/14/2021 update - zero star! apparently clay electric did not learned anything from their fiasco from last year. we just had 3 power outages in 1 week again!
most unreliable electronic service. It was great from 2010 to 2019, but we have outage at least once a month all year in 2010 from minimum 1 hr to 4 hrs. I never had this problem when I had JEA and FPL. currently my power is out again in sunny weather.
We've been a customer for 23 years and just love them. Whenever we lose power we know they are working hard to restore it and we're not without for long. Thank you Clay Electric, we couldn't be happier.
I called today to request a budget plan. I have never had my electric cut off, nor have I ever received a final notice. I pay my bill within the 10 day grace period because its paid through my retirement check, so the day varies. Today, I was told I could not be on the budget plan because I was "late twice".....outside by 1-2 days of the 10 day window. I never knew that. Be careful and know that you are in the south. You will get no favors or compassion UNLESS its a family member, friend of theirs. And a black might as well forget it. Thank you Ms. RITA FOREHAND for showing no compassion...if I were your daughter, friend, family member, you would have approved it. Its a shame that one person has the final word over your destiny. KARMA IS REAL . Trust me, you will reap what you sew and soon. May God have mercy on your soul. Although you may laugh at this statement, remember when you need help or compassion, whether its a medical problem, family problem or whatever....KARMA IS REAL. You can lose everything you have overnight, remember that. And its not over, I will be speaking up your chain until I get an acceptable answer. You have no compassion at all.
Pls keep/file all receipts. I paid my bill on the 1st a couple days later my electric was cutoff due to non-payment. I had to fax them a copy of my receipt they gave me 5 days ago as proof of payment. If i had lost my receipt not only would they have stole my money then make me pay again. My electric has been off since 10am its now 3pm and counting, no utility person.
I've been hearing about a lot of people be without power all day I finally get ahold of my friend he tells me his powers back on and then five minutes later mine goes out in Clay county God I hate Clay county electrical Co-Op
I PAY MY BILL ONLINE VERY MONTH WHAT IS THE PROBLEM LIGHT AT MAY 4 2021 ELECTRIC WENT OUT TAKE 5 HOURS ELECTRIC WENT ON TONIGHT ELECTRIC WENT OUT AT 2:30AM BE ON AT 4: 34AM I HAVE MY BEAUTIFUL PET AND FOOD TWO FREEZER I SO MAD I PUT MY DEP. It took a couple of days following nasty Irma but today about 2PM hooray the lights went on and we were very glad. Thank you to the people who are doing all their best to fix a problem (and the air cond feels sooo nice). I.M. Lee
I called just before closing time to set up new service and had a very pleasant experience. I was helped by a women who's name I believe was Wanda. She was very pleasant and professional.

Can I give 0 stars? I understand that as a responsible adult you keep track of your due dates but life happens and you forget. I have NEVER lived anywhere with an electric company that doesn t call or deliver some sort of pink notice that your power is going to get turned off. All that annoying BS aside. Like many clay county black creek residents we lost our home to Irma and pretty much everything we own. Our last bill was due and paid the 2nd to last or last week in August. Irma hit hard sept 11. Our home *and our meter* were under water for 2 days then the meter was under water for an additional 2 days. 2 days later we were able to come home and start throwing everything we owned away and demolishing the house. The panel upstairs started smoking and popping. Somehow, in those 2.5 barely 3 weeks (including a meter being underwater for 4 days and without power) they tried charging us $240.....our normal 30 day bill in the summer was $180. And they have refused to help or investigate. Considering clay electric services a very large rural and often low income community their customer service is often horrible -their meter readers were actually nice and IF you were home they d knock and give you a few minutes to try and pay. The office is horrible. And these new automatic read meters that can be shut off remotely are not only taking jobs away from meter techs but also making it even harder for people to catch a break when it comes to power bills. we all get caught up in life and forget things.
4 days without power or seeing a single clay electric vehicle. No visible damage on any road all the way to 218. Don't know why they are taking their sweet time, but it's reaching over 100 today and all they dare to tell us is to deal with it. Possibly for another 8 days.....
Never had a power company that does not have a backup message system. If the power goes out, they take the phones off the hook. No way to report a power outage.
Clay electric changed my billing cycle to 20 day w/o any notification. Due to new meters being installed. My bill is now due 10 days earlier. Wow unbelievable! The $ they are making off late fee, disconnects & additional deposit is sad. Guess that s what is paying for the new meters very unethical
The person on the phone, Laura, needs to punch out and go home. She was very rude on the phone and would NOT let me talk. Every time i started to say something she would talk over me. No wonder there was no work order and everything was such a mess. Clay Electric you need to retrain this one or give her her walking papers.
DEC. 11th, 2019 UPDATE to my Nov. 13, 2019 review. I am updating my earlier 1 Star review of this company and changing it to a 4 Star review...based on the fact that a field engineer from Clay Electric reviewed my complaints and called me and offered a reasonable solution that I am happy with. They also came out and installed a new power pole and 2 new guide anchors on my property..as part of routine maintenance. MUCH BETTER JOB CLAY ELECTRIC..THANK YOU!
****ORIGINAL NOV. 13th, 2019 review: I would give them a ZERO on the review simply based on BUSINESS ETHICS but the system is set up to give them at least a 1 STAR rating so we'll go with that. In simple terms..they are good old fashioned THIEVES. This company has been billing me for almost 3 & 1/2 years for an electric light that's on a pole in my front yard. I never asked for the service, I never wanted the service AND it was NEVER ON. I called and spoke with several different people at this company. Now of course they all had their "company policies" and "by-laws" that they hide behind as they pass the phone around to each other..but the bottom line is that they REFUSED to give any of that money back to me even as a bill credit. This is the TEXTBOOK DEFINITION of treacherous THEFT to a loyal good-standing customer of theirs. Just always remember when you're dealing with these people that you are in fact dealing with a PACK OF THIEVES and don't be surprised when you see THIEVES fulfilling their job description.
This company is the worst electric company I ever had to deal with. They just shut off your lights with no warning. Then charge you a reconnection fee, to turn it back on remotely then add more deposits fee and other fees etc. WORST COMPANY!
I have to say this for Clay Electric last year when we had the hurricane we did not lose our power not once and I have been late on my electric bill several times and not once did they threatened to turn me off it seems that they have become much more friendlier at least toward me I know I said originally I prefer JEA but I was definitely wrong Clay Electric is by far the best and I'm glad to have them as my electric service provider
Have had my power disconnected twice now by accident . Fortunately both times I was home to notice and did not have to come home to find all my food rotten in my fridge. Then to top it off their customer service team is EXTREMELY disrespectful. They ve got you by the balls because you can t get service through anyone else, and they take advantage of that.
They send a service guy out, find a problem in box on side of house & say I can fix it.
Also, woman on phone was so rude to my elderly father trying to talk over him about how it's a "holiday" .... on the day before Christmas Eve?? therefore there maybe service charge....
More power outages during a normal week than in the middle of a hurricane. Impossible to contact. Ancient computer system makes support manually enter a bank before they can accept payment from it. Currently have ruined salmon in my oven because they "restored power" for all of 10 minutes.
