We came in for a late breakfast and I guess just somehow found ourselves there at the perfectly wrong time. After ordering it took forevvvver to get our food. The chips and salsa were good but not enough to make up for how long we waited. I know that happens from time to time, but... it was a little on the beyond-OK side of my patience.

The dining room we were in was super cool though. Loved looking around the place and the outside is really pretty as well! Church street ham omelette was well-made and our coffees stayed filled, and two meals and drinks totalled around $20, so that was awesome.

Food was really good.... once it finally arrived.

I can't believe most of these 5-star reviews are real. I just ate there this morning. The food was tasteless. The cheese was like chewing gum. The coffee was watery. [However, the beans, rice and chile were good.] The hostess acted like I was imposing upon her (I got there very early), and she even acted exasperated when I requested to be seated in the back patio. She never smiled and neither did my waitress. it used to be good -- years ago. Not anymore. This is the second bad meal I've had in the past couple of years. I'm never going back. And, btw, a lot of restaurants in Old Town are like this now -- they think you'll eat crappy just for the experience of eating in Old Town.

Stopped here for lunch while walking around old town abq. We had no internet as did many of the shops so we had no idea. 30 minute wait to be seated. No problem. The ambience was quite charming. Loved the live guitar playing in the other dining room. Once seated or drinks v arrived fast. Our server was prompt with drinks and order. Then it was a wait for food and refills. The service was ok there after. I ordered the old school chile rellenos while my kids ordered the tamale plates. Good food in general. The spinach & the squash sides were fantastic. Beans and rice typical. Over all 4 stars. I'd give it another shot for sure.

Stopped here for breakfast on a roadtrip. SO wonderful! Best omelet and cappuchino I've ever had. They were very hospitable and offered us water to go for the final hours of our trip! They were the only place we could find that was open at 8am, and I'm so glad. Sweet people, amazing food, lovely atmosphere. Go here!!

Ate a late lunch with 2 friends today at Church Street Cafe (first time for them). Love the restaurant, the waitress was great but.....we were constantly brothered by flies to the point of asking for extra napkins to cover the chips, salas and our food. My guacamole was more like a split pea soup on my taquitos. Disappointed to say the least especially since it was my suggestion to eat at this restaurant.

This place is top shelf. There is a waiter there named Matt who is easily the best waiter I ve ever had in my life. I m from Washington DC/NOVA and my wife is a high maintenance little thing who makes me take her to fancy dinners all the time in DC. Matt outshines every DC waiter I ve had. The food and vibe is perfect and they have a harp player who shreds. Won t forget this place.

I love this little gem of a restaurant. It is hidden away in old Town but definitely worth looking for. The restaurant is inside an old house that has many rooms. From the outside you think it will be a small place, but the rooms keep going. They have a large variety of New Mexican beers and all of the entrees come with a sopaipilla. The salsa and chips are delicious. I had the vegetarian tamales with both green and red sauce and they were very flavorful. I can't wait to go back here.

Located in Old Town Albaquerque, New Mexico this early 1700's historic Adobe home was build by one of the founding families and is one of the oldest structures in Albaquerque. Built by the Ruiz Family, it was subsequently, converted to a restaurant serving New Mexico style cuisine. The food and cocktails are excellent. The three of us ordered the enchilada platter, "Christmas" style which is served with both green and red chile, the beans were delicious as were the "calabasitas" or zucchini. Reservations are a must during peak season.

food isnt bad here but i was here with my mother, aunt and my grandfather from out of town and the waiter was SO RUDE. he wasnt even trying to hide his distain for us i cant believe a waiter would ever treat costumers this way. furthermore when passing through the buliding servers will borderline yell at you to get out of their way. NOT IMPRESSED. we can tell you enoloyees hate their jobs but its to the point that their taking it out on the customer's. very displeased since ive given this place a lot of business in the past and i live in the neighborhood, needless to say i will never return.

Passing through Albuquerque today and had to stop in Old Town. Church Street Cafe had beautiful outdoor dining. It was cold, but the sun was bright and the food was hot. Our server was attentive and friendly. The food was perfect! Pork filled chile rellanos with green sauce satisfied my need for green. Hubby loved the Navajo Taco and Menudo. It was worth the detour!

Get the Ruben with green chilies.... Jesus.... surprisingly well balanced layers of flavor. The quality of ingredients are what make this sandwich uniquely different from what I m used to from New York s bodegas.

We were disappointed with this restaurant. The portions were large, but the food was not well prepared or particularly tasty. I would characterize this place as a tourist trap and would suggest looking elsewhere.

Church street cafe is so wonderful. Whenever I visit my hometown, Albuquerque I enjoy frequenting this place and they serve such great breakfast and the management team is so warm and welcoming and I spoke a little with the owner this past summer with my mom as she sat out welcoming people in. The servers are very attentive and the food is always fresh. This restaurant was one of the original settlements of Albuquerque turned into a restaurant. There is so much history and it represents what New Mexico is about. Thank you!

Went with a friend, and on her recommendation. I'm giving it three stars because she and my wife both enjoyed their dishes. The restaurant, while fairly well decorated, struck me as very "touristy," which I get since it's in a tourist area. I got the menudo. Stock was under seasoned, and the tripas has been cooked down to nothing. I'm used to a grittier dish with just a hint of the barn floor (if you know what I mean) and some chew to the entrails. This stuff was like eating unflavored gelatin. I put all the red salsa on top and all the raw onion they brought. I had hoped to find some flavor, but just ended up with unflavored gelatin and onions. At least the girls had fun.

Poor food poor service rich prices. If you like good food at good prices go somewhere else. If you like gruff service with expensive average food then you have found the right place. After eating here we found a less touristy restaurant in a nice nook by the museum they had amazing street tacos at great prices with friendly service.

Great ambiance, historic feel. We sat in the back patio and had a nice lunch. The unsweetened mango iced tea was delicious and went well with our salads. We passed through a smaller dining area with dark woods and had an older feel. There is a larger high ceiling dining room with a fireplace.

Way over priced food. Staff was incompetent. Not only did they mess up on my order twice. When they finally brought me my food it tasted like they dumped a bucket of salt on it. The people on the next table had a similar experience too. Don't come here. Save your money.

About Church Street Cafe

Church Street Cafe - A Place to Savor the Best of New Mexico Cuisine

If you're looking for a cozy and welcoming cafe that serves authentic New Mexican cuisine, look no further than Church Street Cafe. Located in the heart of Old Town Albuquerque, this charming restaurant has been serving up delicious food and warm hospitality for over 30 years.

The History of Church Street Cafe

The building that houses Church Street Cafe dates back to the early 1700s when it was built as a hacienda-style home. Over the years, it served as a residence for various families and even housed a brothel at one point. In the 1970s, it was converted into a restaurant by owner Marie Coleman who wanted to create a space where people could come together over good food and conversation.

Today, Church Street Cafe is still owned by Marie's family who have continued her legacy of providing excellent service and traditional New Mexican dishes made with fresh ingredients.

The Menu at Church Street Cafe

One of the highlights of dining at Church Street Cafe is their extensive menu which features classic New Mexican dishes like enchiladas, tamales, chile rellenos, and posole. All their dishes are made from scratch using locally sourced ingredients whenever possible.

But what really sets them apart is their famous salsa which has been voted "Best in Albuquerque" multiple times. Made with roasted tomatoes, garlic, onions, cilantro, and just enough heat from green chiles - this salsa is addictive!

In addition to their regular menu items, they also offer daily specials like carne adovada (pork marinated in red chile sauce) or calabacitas (a vegetarian dish made with squash).

Atmosphere & Service

Walking into Church Street Cafe feels like stepping back in time with its adobe walls adorned with colorful artwork and rustic wooden beams overhead. The space is cozy yet spacious enough to accommodate groups both large and small.

But what really makes this place special is its friendly staff who go out of their way to make you feel welcome. Whether you're a regular or visiting for the first time - they treat everyone like family.

Conclusion

If you're looking for an authentic taste of New Mexico cuisine served up with warm hospitality - look no further than Church Street Cafe. With its rich history dating back centuries combined with delicious food made from scratch - it's no wonder why locals keep coming back year after year.

So next time you find yourself in Old Town Albuquerque craving some spicy salsa or savory enchiladas - head on over to Church Street Cafe where you'll be greeted with open arms!
