One of my favorite places to eat in Old Town, the Church Street Cafe is more than a coffee shop. They serve first class Mexican food and provide a cozy southwestern ambiance all the while. Their excellent wait staff knows what they're doing, too.

We had a organization thank you party here. It was a thank you dinner for those that produced sales for "Slate sales during Medicare open enrollment. I ordered a combination plate to try a little of everything. I have never been to this place before. The service was great, the food was hot and flavorful. The chili was mild, I like it hot. So if you want to take guest's from out of town. Make Church Street Cafe one of your selections.

Truly awful. The server was indifferent, the food below average. She recommended the "zucchini and corn in a light butter sauce" turned out to be zucchini mush- boiled until inedible. Their specialty of chile rellenos was covered in orange cheese. I asked the server what kind of green chile they had- did it have pork in it? She said " oh you know New Mexico chile". My wifes taco salad was sad. I wish we had gone to taco bell, it would have been better.

Old towns best place to eat! Of the handful of times we've eaten here, it has been spectacular on each occasion. For dinner or breakfasts everything was fantastic from the friendly service to the perfectly prepared meals and finely crafted cocktails. Always a treat, recommend the Navajo tacos and margaritas or carne con huevos. The pancakes are stellar as well.

Don't be deceived by the small appearance of the patio dining and entrance! This is by far my favorite restaurant in Old Town since the food is reasonably priced, portions are large and the service is always good. I typically visit once a week when wandering around the Old Town area.

Church Street Cafe has a wonderful ambience and such good food! Our waiter Sherman was so sweet and really took care of us, like we were old friends! We loved the guitar player that played during dinner, it made the whole experience idyllic. I will definitely be back when I go to Albuquerque next.

The food is okay. I kept going back hoping to find something that i would really like. It s priced high for what you re getting but the last time I took the family we waited over 20 min and no one addressed us. When I got someone s attention I was told that my waitress would be right with us and she never came. We left and we gave not returned.

Pretty good food. Service was decent. Overall, if you like spicey food you are in the right place. I loved the sopaillas and enchiladas in the red sauce but the green sauce would have been too spicy for me. We asked for samples of the sauces with our chips bc we have youngish kids. The chicken fajitas looked delicious but were too bland. Maybe people throw sauce on them? My husband thought it was on menu description but sauce was not provided until he requested some.

Service was horrible. We waited a good 20 minutes before we even got our orders taken. Never got our appetizers until 45 minutes later. It was well over an hour before we were served our food. The food was ok but definitely not the best Mexican food I ve had. Half of our party also did not get what we ordered. One of our party members had to return her food and have it taken off the ticket because after 1 1/2 hours we couldn t wait for our order to be fixed. It was a mess and I would never recommend eating here. .

A little hard to get to, but once you find it it's a very cool building with lots of seating. They also have a very nice patio with live music on certain days. The food was very good, particularly their sopapillas.

Poppin' a cherry! First time here and it was good. In the heart of old town a gem. I had huevos rancheros christmas; red and green chili, both are delicious! I 2 spots now 3 in the while city where I love the red chili. Friends had taco plate with shredded beef red, enchiladas red with chicken, breakfast burrito. The food is tasty! Margaritas are made with agave wine, not too bad.

A pretty but narrow entrance leads you, surprisingly, to several connected and beautifully set rooms of a rather large u shaped hacienda with a nice open courtyard also. Good quality new mexican cuisine, slightly on the spicy side for the uninitiated. Tasty!

This had great reviews online and from locals so I was eager to check it out. Fun decor, much bigger on the inside than it appears from the front. Really delicious combo platter of tamale, enchilada, and chile relleno. I didn t care for the vegetables. My server was friendly and helpful, but didn t hover so I had a nice long meal.

I saw this restaurant on a TV show back in Australia and thought to myself then that I was going to this place. So I did and I don't regret it. Food was fresh and delicious, staff friendly. Will be back. P.s. I recommend the steak fajitas!

Man did we really want to like this place. It was recommended by our hotel.

After waiting for 20 mins, we were taken to a table in a back room. The place was busy, but there were at least 6-7 empty tables. Once we were seated, the waitress took another 20 minutes to acknowledge our existence. She and a second waitress managed to bungle our drink order (a frozen margarita and a tea). They messed it up twice, and we had to ask for lemons 4 times.

After finally receiving our drinks (no lemons) we seemed to become invisible again.

We finally flagged someone down to take our food order, and were told that they were out of taco shells. This after being in the place for an hour...

The food must be good, as they are busy. We wouldn t know.

However, even great food couldn t compensate for the poor service and understaffing.

One of our favorites in ABQ! The food and service is positively consistent. The restaurant itself is gorgeous, never tire of walking through the property. Antonio is a stand out server. Thank you, Church Street Cafe.

What a lovely place. Great atmosphere, all food came out fast, and service was super friendly. Every dish had large portion of meat, and great flavoring. Also, glad they had seating available during quarantine. Everyone was spaced out and wearing masks. We are so happy we stopped in!

After our party of four was seated the server told us we had 15 minutes before the kitchen closed so hurry and order. We were visiting from another state and didn't realize the restaurant closed on Sunday at 4 pm. I wish they would have turned us away instead. The server was abrupt and crabby which made the dining experience uncomfortable. Otherwise food was tasty and atmosphere good.

We were surprised at how big the restaurant was, because it seemed small from the outside and we had no previous information about it. It was very well decorated, and the cover of the menu gave interesting facts about the building and the family that it had belonged to since the founding of Albuquerque.

We were there at a slow time (10 a.m.), so we didn't have to wait for a table, and the service was good. The food was very good (huevos rancheros, pancakes, a cinnamon roll the size of a dinner plate, ... and fried ice cream because we had never tried it before and we wanted to see what it was and how it was made). The portions were very big (like in all restaurants in the US), and everything was delicious, even the pancakes, which are usually not worth mentioning.

So, try to go there at a slow time, when you can enjoy your meal at a leisurely pace and then look at the different elements of the decor more closely.

I love this restaurant for the atmosphere and New Mexican food. Service is always great. Food is closest to real New Mexican than other restaurants in Old Town. I love their menudo (beware, its not for everyone though). It is a little pricey and is in the middle of a tourist trap though.

About Church Street Cafe

Church Street Cafe - A Place to Savor the Best of New Mexico Cuisine

If you're looking for a cozy and welcoming cafe that serves authentic New Mexican cuisine, look no further than Church Street Cafe. Located in the heart of Old Town Albuquerque, this charming restaurant has been serving up delicious food and warm hospitality for over 30 years.

The History of Church Street Cafe

The building that houses Church Street Cafe dates back to the early 1700s when it was built as a hacienda-style home. Over the years, it served as a residence for various families and even housed a brothel at one point. In the 1970s, it was converted into a restaurant by owner Marie Coleman who wanted to create a space where people could come together over good food and conversation.

Today, Church Street Cafe is still owned by Marie's family who have continued her legacy of providing excellent service and traditional New Mexican dishes made with fresh ingredients.

The Menu at Church Street Cafe

One of the highlights of dining at Church Street Cafe is their extensive menu which features classic New Mexican dishes like enchiladas, tamales, chile rellenos, and posole. All their dishes are made from scratch using locally sourced ingredients whenever possible.

But what really sets them apart is their famous salsa which has been voted "Best in Albuquerque" multiple times. Made with roasted tomatoes, garlic, onions, cilantro, and just enough heat from green chiles - this salsa is addictive!

In addition to their regular menu items, they also offer daily specials like carne adovada (pork marinated in red chile sauce) or calabacitas (a vegetarian dish made with squash).

Atmosphere & Service

Walking into Church Street Cafe feels like stepping back in time with its adobe walls adorned with colorful artwork and rustic wooden beams overhead. The space is cozy yet spacious enough to accommodate groups both large and small.

But what really makes this place special is its friendly staff who go out of their way to make you feel welcome. Whether you're a regular or visiting for the first time - they treat everyone like family.

Conclusion

If you're looking for an authentic taste of New Mexico cuisine served up with warm hospitality - look no further than Church Street Cafe. With its rich history dating back centuries combined with delicious food made from scratch - it's no wonder why locals keep coming back year after year.

So next time you find yourself in Old Town Albuquerque craving some spicy salsa or savory enchiladas - head on over to Church Street Cafe where you'll be greeted with open arms!
