Chillout Hostel Zagreb Reviews

Good ubication. Very noisy. Minimum kitchen: 1 table and 2 armchairs. Strong music from 9 a.m. until 6 a.m. the next day. Impossible to sleep on the 2nd floor. Very small rooms for so many beds. The bathrooms are not enough for so many people per floor; They are not cleaned regularly, very dirty at night. The showers, idem.

No wonder it's on the list of best hostels in Europe. This place is spectacular and from the moment you step in, you'll fall in love with the vibe.

A high quality hostel, even though it was a grand party downstairs, I did not hear anything in the room.

Nice staff accomodation also for a four people family

The bynk beds are too conjusted and packed really close together to have some privacy.
Talking about the food, the drinks they serve as part of free breakfast are good (green tea, coffee, energy drink) but the range in food is not at all good.

awesome experience in my first international trip. everything was good. from restaurant to bar to dorm ...everything.

I spend there only few hours but it is beautiful. Good bar on the basement, friendly staff. Although the rooms are small, they are pretty well organized and beautiful with all the necessary for a cheap price and amazing location

Around a 20 min walk from the train station, and it is very central, just off the main square. The room are very funky and clean and offer lots of information and activities to do. Would definitely recommend

Website advertises all rooms en suite. Not true. There s about 2 showers & 3 toilets per floor between about 30-40 people
The place is just grubby. Dark. Run down.smoky. They are going for the hipster look but all the graffiti, dirty furniture etc...is not hipster-it s just dirty
Facilities are poor. Everything is cramped, toilets, showers, hardly enough room to close the door let alone do anything else

This is the sort of hostel that would have been cool in 2008 but now with Airbnb & other city hostels upping their game this place just feels old & tired unless you are a twenty something looking to spend all night smoking at the bar it might not be for you. It s 2019, time to start freshening things up I think

The hostel is located at the center of the city, they have clean rooms albeit the beds are a bit closed up and might feel uncomfortable. The hostel personel is very friendly and they organise many activities daily such as a trip to Plitvicka or Pubcrawls. In addition they have a bar downstairs so it's easy to find people to hang out with.

There wasn't a lot social area and the room doesn't allow the interaction between the guests. WI-FI unstable.

Friendly and friendly staff, nice interior design, relaxed atmosphere, super location in the very center of town and to me personally important - good coffee.

Fortunately they are to save the staff bill because the two receptionists (Ivan and Phil) are rude: I really felt like I was bothering them (rude remarks, cold and haughty reception, unhelpful). I really felt like I was screwing them up.

Too bad because the rest is great.

Nice place with nice people like Francka (she is really sympathic, helpfull and enthousiastic), Karlo, Maya (thanks for the bar crawl and your smiles) and Jess.

Two receptionists (Ivan and Phil) are not sympathics at all (they are cold, make me feel like a disturbing guy, not helpfull). I'm not the only one to thinking like that.

It s the only bad point.

Had a great stay. Staff in general is nice (some very friendly and enthusiastic and others simply do their job). There were plenty of toilets and showers ( maybe it's time to clean the shower drains btw! ). I had a 4 bunk bed room. Price was very reasonable for such location in city center. Pay attention, the street is pedestrian only so you will need to walk a bit to grab a cab. Mine did come right up to the hostel but they risk fines by the police. Rooms are comfortable (not if you are much taller than 6 ft 2inches / 1meter90 as you will feel boxed in. Fun activities organized, the local bar is nice, nice seating area outside. Room had air conditioning and while it did not work as a real hotel air conditioning would work at least some cold wind did come out of it. Kitchen and fridge is small, hot and not very practical. Locker in room is very generous and fits a medium babackpack and a carry on size luggage. Did not have issues with noise since i went out till quite late. In any case they give out free ear plugs at reception, a nice touch! Weirdly I Never thought I would say that of a youth hostel, but I wish I had stayed longer than 1 night! It really is a nice play to chillout. Good job!

Very friendly staff.. But not cozy at all. Very loud. A lot of smoke everywhere.. I don't know why they call it "Chillout" cause you can't "chill" there.. It's more or less a party hostel..

Small rooms and air conditioning didn't work.apart from that everything was was good, helpful staff reasonably priced

Hostel is phenomenal! The price is good, the food is great. The hostel has a bar where every night has different events (karaoke, quiz, DJ) and it always has a good time. There is a possibility to hire a tourist guide. The hostel also has a beautifully equipped and clean kitchen. Rooms are nicely decorated. I recommend a hostel, it is suitable for bigger groups and across the street also has a seminar hall / trainings + hostel in the city center. Employees are kind and relaxed.

I loved the location. The staff was really friendly and accommodating. I was surprised how good the showers were for a hostel and the rooms were really clean. A recommendation for young people on a budget

Loud at night sometimes when there's a party, but if you like that kind of places, it's great. Clean and neat.

If you like dirty beds, go here. If you like stinking bathrooms, go here. If you like cold showers, go here. If you like sweatboxes, go here (the ac didn't work, even though they said it worked fine). If you like annoying front desk people, go here. If you like to go to Zagreb, go somewhere else.

Ok Hostel. Very central to something which is plus. Poor breakfast with good dinner there and lunch. The lift is slow and unfortunately does not go completely up. I had rooms for 5 draws during much of my stay and would have liked the elevator to go to 5th floor. But all in all, I had a great sense of where the center was near this hostel in Zagreb.

Amazing hostel, by far the best ive been so far.
Staff is super friendly, Dominique and Laurence brought us out to show us around the city the first day, made us feel right at home.
The second day, we took the door for plitvice lakes, I would recommend it to everyone, the lakes themselves were mesmerizing and the guide, max, was one of the most funny people i met in my life. Would definitely book again next time!

We can not understand the very good rating. We experienced the hostel as a loud party place. Rooms, showers and bed linen were grubby and dirty. A second night's sleep was out of the question for us. That's why we checked out early. Too bad. Location is great!

I didn't stay at this place but had to come here to write this review because one girl here at the reception helped me when I needed it. I was looking to change euros into kuna and every exchange was closed. Credit card was only accepted in a few places and not even the parking where I parked my car. Tried around 10 shops to help me change 20 euros into kunas and I got rejected everywhere but this. Thanks you very much!!

Comfortable stay with great staff, good pub-crawl. Great access to all Zagreb has to offer.

My stay there was awesome. Easily the best hostel I went to.

The staff was nice, but the Plitvice Lakes tour guide Billy was incredible. I will highly recommand this tour and this hostel to everyone I know.

Great central location is what you are paying for at this hostel. Very basic facilities that need updating and cleaning.

Warm place warm people, pretty girls from all around the world

Nice place, lively bar, a bit disorganized but the location is great.. right in the center of town, right next to a tunnel entrance, easy to stumble back to.

I really enjoyed this hostel. The ambient was really cool, the parties/activities were so much fun, the location was pretty central and the staff was amazing. I immediately felt welcomed when I walked in. I wanna give a shout out to Dinko and Gorey for amazing hospitality, they treated me really well.

Room was quite nice, plenty of hooks and good (lockable) drawer space below the bed. Washroom facilities were nice too. Great showers. Good setup of separating toilets, urinals and showers. Unfortunately, the lobby and the bar are one area so the hostel becomes very smoky which is unappealing for non-smokers. Used the laundry service which was great, got a basket of laundry done in a few hours for 60 Kn.

one word: Bedbugs!
So I'm not usually someone who has too high expectations for a hostel (it's cheap for a reason) but this hostel is full with bedbugs. Already last year (Oct. 2016) we suffered from the bugs but we were not sure what it was. This year (Oct 2017) there was no mistaking: the hostel is full of bedbugs. I got bites all over me (at least 50 bites in one night). I saw two bugs during the night as well.

This was reported to the hostel staff in the morning. First they changed the sheets and told us that they had checked but not found anything. We went back to the room and saw one of the bugs immediately. We got the staff to look at them and they finally agreed to give us another room for the next (and luckily final) night and they offered to wash all our clothes for us. First we were happy with how they acted BUT then we found out this was not just a one time occurrence. They told us that this almost never happens (3 times in 2 years) but when we went to check Tripadvisor we saw that several people had left comments about the bedbug infestation in the last few months. This is not just one rare case and not just one room.

So before they clean the entire hostel (professionals should heat up the entire building) and get rid of all the mattrasses (which are old anyways) I would only tell my enemies to spend a night at the Chillout Hostel in Zagreb. Do yourself a favour and look for another Hostel or rent an AirBnB.

Cheap, but dirty filled with bugs and small beds. Would not recommend for anyone over 180 cm tall. Nice location.

We only had a short 2 day stay at Chillout Hostel, but it was such a great time. Corey at reception was super nice and helpful. Not only did he tell us where to find most of the cities attractions, but also gave us a local s perspective. What s even better is that there are free walking tours every day from the hostel, so if you re only in town for a short time like us, these tours are a perfect way to see everything!
The room we had was spacious enough, perfect for what we needed. The beds were comfy and the wifi was amazing throughout. Breakfast was also awesome. We had the buffet and some of the items on the menu and everything was great.
The best part about the hostel is the hangout spot downstairs. The drinks are cheap, the staff is nice and the ambiance is super laid back. There is always something going on down there, so it s a great place to meet friends and have great conversations over a beer.
Needless to say that the hostel is super well situated, near everything you need and that you want to see, so it s the perfect spot if you re in Zagreb.

The beds feel like a coffin, very claustrophobic. Rooms are super small. The shower had a leak that basically flooded the bathroom after every shower.
The service varied from person to person. There was a horrible guy working as a bartender. Super fude to everyone.

I suspect that the room is too narrow and the worms caught are not bedbugs. The air conditioner did not work, there were two fans and it was broken. Because the hotel was on the fourth floor, the noise was not bad. The Wi-Fi in the room is not available, but the Zagreb public Wi-Fi is fast and reliable. I was told there was a kitchen but I was not informed and could not find it until I left.

Great hostel with all the comfort needed and even more ^^

Great rooms, sweet bar, amazing service and they will clean your clothes for 8 Euro. I really like this place and the only bad thing I can think of is that you hear the loud music coming from the bar when you are trying to sleep in your room. That was not a problem for me as I am a deep sleeper but has to be mentioned in the review.

Good party hostel. Staff are fun and friendly. Drinking and activities every night. Good for young ones.

Clean and ok-quiet hostel. Well located.
However, I wouldn't recommend the kitchen to cook nor the free walking tour that starts from the hostel (look for another free walking tour).

It's great, just bring your handcuff and shampoo, otherwise the party, the team is cool

Nice, shame we have to pay for a hair dryer, no curtain on the beds or windows. Broken showers. Home ... tired of the season I guess.

I loved this hostel. Great ambience, awesome staff, fun parties, nice bar, well decorated, perfect location, very clean, pretty comfortable, incredible value for money. The biggest lockers I have seen in hostels, shower works perfectly, breakfast included. Cant really ask for more in a hostel. I even checked in out of time, couldnt get to the room till the check in time but could use all spaces and lockers, also when leaving after check out.

The staff at the ground floor could be cleaner..the same location is good ... and from the music and the noise on the ground floor there is no sleep until 3:00 pm ... it means pure horror ...

Good party-hostel in the heart of Zagreb! The rooms are very nice and good equipped. The bar offers party's at the weekends and during the week various smaller events. You will always meet somebody to hang out during the nights. I really enjoyed my eight days here.

There was no hot water in the room. It was not clean and some stuff from the previous guest were still in the room. It was too loud to fall asleep. I paid before seeing the room and after half an hour I wanted to cancel since it did not meet my expectation at all. The staff did not help me at all. I found another hotel and paid for two accommodations for that night. The next day my charger was missing. I went back to look for it. The lady at the reception told me that all rooms were cleaned. I insisted to see the room and I saw that the room was not cleaned yet which means she lied to me. My worst accommodation experience so far. Not recommended if you are looking for.little comfort and trusting environment.
