A reallly nice zoo, I think the big game enclosures are too small though, tigers and Lions need a lot more space this is sad. Mums with push chairs everywhere avoid on school holidays. Overall a nice clean zoo with helpful staff
I Love the place having been 5-6 years in a row and I know it's tough with Corona but I little things that were missing ruined the day somewhat and would have made it a many times better experience if implemented.
No maps given out but also no indication of what's open and what's not on main maps. Bat enclosure was shut for example and we found out having walked ages to it in the rain. Also nothing on maps showing one way systems, or recommended routes.
Might have been helpful to have rough wait times on boards next to queues for some enclosures.
Bembe kitchen was closed meaning June's Kitchen was heaving with long queues.
To top things off the app is utter trash. Impossible to use for navigation (location didn't work, turned on, had permissions - used Google maps in the end. Would have been so easy to integrate things like where was busy, queues, wait times.
Chester Zoo is fascinating green place to relax, walk and to learn interesting facts about animals from all over the world. In this Zoo you can see inter alia nice places where dangerous predators (e.g. jaguar, cheetah) are kept, wonderful and full of greenery pavilion with butterflies (which flying and siting on plants), fascinating and beautiful Tropical Realm with numerous colourful birds flying around, reptiles, amphibians and outstanding pavilion where you can walk surrounded by flying bats.
Chester Zoo is wonderful place offering numerous attractions and educational meetings to people in different age. It is really worth visiting!
I love chester zoo! They care so much about the animals and always put their welfare first. The enclosures are incredible with such a wide range of animals. One volunteer told us it's about 11miles all the way round, so needs a full day to make the most of it. If you like being in the environment with the animals then highly recommend the bat house and the butterfly house - you can walk round with the animals. If you want the big animals there's plenty of those too - elephants, giraffes, lions, cheetahs and rhinos (to name a few). Enjoy, it's amazing!
Fantastic zoo Staff really friendly ,polite and helpful. Had a great day , could have walked round again but not enough time We'll definitely be back. Amazing amount of space for the animals Definitely can see they are all about conservation.
Chester Zoo is as welcoming as ever despite the pandemic, the zoo is looking clean and tidy and has plenty of controls in place for social distancing, with lots of staff ensuring that visitors follow the rules. When I visit there were a couple areas not open such as the bat walk through area and the butterfly house and the areas affected by the fire in 2018, but despite this the zoo is still an excellent day out.
Amazing! Can't wait till we move to Chester so we can come more often. Really love wandering around and in 2 visits I still don't think we have seen everything.
The zoo was brilliant its was raining cats and dogs but it didnt stop are enjoyment plus the staff were brilliant and plenty of hand washers all around the Zoo
Very expensive considering some of the stuff was closed due to Covid-19, however what there was is very good, plenty of seats tables for picnics etc, lots of toilet facilities, plenty of hand sanitizer stations.
We hold a season pass for the zoo, which should tell you all you need to know about how much we enjoy visiting! The exhibits are great, you don't get the sense that the animals are bored - the enclosures are constantly under improvement, and the zoo are adding new exhibits on a regular basis.
The zoo also does fantastic work in conservation and education.
We've recently visited for the Lanterns - this is the first year we've made it to the Lanterns, and it was fantastic - completely worth it in my opinion. I can't describe what it involves, but suffice to say it was magical for both adults and children - I very much look forward to a repeat visit next year.
Could do with a viewing platform above the pens of the most popular animals as we didnt see the main cats on our visit wich was a bit of a shame also a monorail admission should be included with gate price
Great location for a day out. You would need more than one visit to take in everything, and need to be reasonably fit as the zoo is extensive. There are plenty of eateries within the grounds and picnic spots available. There is extensive car parking available which is free. It is cheaper to book entrance tickets online than pay on the gate. The ethos of the zoo is to conserve and promote endangered species.
I've been visiting this zoo for over 25 years and I still look forward to every visit. This zoo is excellent in investigating in itself so there's always something new to discover no matter how many times you've been before.
I'd recommend arriving as early as you can because it is a very popular place. You might end up parking quite far away if you arrive later and there's so much to see that you need as much time as you can get!
I went with my partner for the first time. The zoo is huge with a massive range of animals. The zoo also very well maintained and the staff are friendly. The parking is excellent. Only downside is food prices, my advice take a packed lunch.
I felt the price i paid for the day was expensive. Lots of the animals where not available to see with no reduction in price. I found the map and sign posting severley lacking. Its ok butnige been to better zoos with better facilities for less.
Disappointed as it seemed most enclosures were empty, of course animals may have been hiding. We saw more staff than animals. Viewing panels were crowded in a pandemic! Monorail and boats closed. Most cafes closed with a few stalls with huge queues. We wouldn't go again.
Very good zoo and interesting but so badly laid out.. We spent an hour going round in circles with no clue on how to get where we wanted next, with people asking us to help find the exit later..
The zoo is amazing with thousands of species of plants and animals. Would have given 5 stars but the only thing was every animal we visited had a queue and waiting for around 30-45 mins as it was weekend and though we pre booked our tickets and entries were limited which was very tiresome and also unsafe because of Covid 19. Would love to visit again once things get back to normal.
This is a very large Zoo bit with relatively few animals in my opinion. Didn't help that we went on the wettest day in Christendom. Their social distancing measures are pretty woeful. Parts of it were just Covid hell and I had to rush through. Didn't feel safe at all.
A firm family favourite. We've visited a few times whilst on holiday and loved it everytime. Such a large range of animals. All animals always appear happy and well cared for. Definitely need a whole day to enjoy the zoo. There is food available although last time we took a picnic to save money but we did buy ice creams :) there is plenty of free parking.
Always loved it here, putting a post-covid review on. Lots of signs for social distancing. Lost count of the number of hand sanitizer stations around the park. Staff stationed at potential bottle necks to keep things moving. The zoo itself is great. Animals look happy and healthy. Keepers knowledgeable and friendly. Set in lovely lush gardens.
While some enclosures and indoor spaces are closed, there is still a lot to see. A lot of hand sanitisers around and other measures. Couple of play grounds and cafes are open as well. Worth a visit
Best Zoo in the UK, with plenty of outside space for the animals. Need at least 2 full days to appreciate what has been created. Very helpful and pleasant staff. Excellent, Thank You
Great day out for all the family, the mono rail was useful iff needed as the zoo is spread over a large area. The animals were well looked after and had a decent sized enclosures. There was also a cafe for refreshments. Probably one of the best zoo's I've visited.
Travelled from Hertfordshire with my Partner to go to Chester Zoo. Wanted to support the Zoo and all the conservation work. Loved the story behind the Zoo and the show on TV now. The visit was well worth it, amazing place.
Absolutely loved our day here, has to be the best zoo we have ever visited. Spent a good half a day here and easily could have spent longer. So much to see and so much information on hand. If this is what is like at a cold time of year I can't wait to come back in the summer!
Never walked so much, but worth every yard. Staff were excellent and so helpful. Not much on offer for food, but a minor detail. Four and a half hours non-stop rain, but still couldn't dampen the experience. Highly recommend this for your bucket list.
Had a great day, didn't get to see the whole zoo. Got there at 11am, stayed till 4pm. Parking was straight forward, followed the signs till we saw staff in uniform to guide us to the exact parking spot. Had already ordered tickets online, so that was as simple as getting the barcode scanned at the entrance gate. The animals seemed well looked after, my favourite part was probably the tropical centre where there was a decent range of birds. Got to see the amazing cheetahs and heard/saw the lions roar. Overall nice day... Took it really slow and went back on ourselfs a few times, otherwise there is enough time to see the whole site. Can't comment on the food or toilet facilities as I didn't use them.
The range of animals the zoo has is wonderful and you can tell they are all happy and well looked after. The enclosures all mimic natural environments and offer the animals lots of space to roam around.
The areas are themed nicely with island journeys and Madagascar zones grouping animals together. There are also a range of free flying areas for both birds and bats to be zooming around you with you walking through their enclosures offering something unique.
Great day out. Not too busy on a work day outside school holidays. Lots of happy animals. Enclosure seem a decent size. No pets Corner or farm which I whole heartedly back so no distressed animals being poked or pulled by kids, this to me makes me see that the zoo put their animals welfare first and not profits. All the animals looked healthy and happy, few building works going on around the zoo for improvements. Staff were all knowledgeable and happy to share. You need a full day here. Costs of food were very reasonable. Wonderful day out.
Best zoo in the country! They clearly care about their animals and give them appropriate, spacious enclosures. Also got to see channel 4 filming for Secret Life of the Zoo !
We spent four hours walking around Chester zoo and it was just great. You can obviously spend all day taking every little bit in but this time of year four hours is enough. There is a lot to see and the zoo covers a big area and there's loads of information to take in.The cafe is huge with a good choice of food and drink and It gives you a nice break from that cold weather. The animals you see either inside or outside are all expertly looked after by the keepers and it's just great entertainment. To see the big chimps huddled together or the babies causing mischief it's all worth it.The whole zoo is always very well run and the layout brilliant.Dont forget your walking boots .
If you have little kids under five rent a buggy from there. Its so worth it. Also big enough to carry your stuff on it. Theres a lot of walking, but its highly enjoyable for all ages. Take your own food, and drinks as it gets pricey inside. Also pay for your tickets online to save on waiting times.
Lived up to expectations. Having seen secret life of a zoo on TV and travelled 200 miles to get to the Zoo I am pleased to say that it was well worth it. Very Covid safe as well. Well Done Chester Zoo. 10/10
Absolutely huge and full of different species. I loved all the enclosures and there was a bat house which was super cool. Don't enter it if you're scared of that dort of thing - they try to land on you.
I have always loved this place. I have been to many zoos all over the world but the British ones are always the best in my opinion, if a little more expensive. Plenty to do, expensive food but that's normal in the UK. Lots of variety and places to sit and chill if needed. It could do with updating in places but kids will love this place and it's still value for money.
