Overall a vast improvement, but with a few caveats. The biggest problem with the restaurant section on a Saturday night (and probably nay night) was that it was incredibly noisy - too noisy to hear across the table, even when shouting, thus you can only converse with the person directly next to you. No-one expects a pub restaurant to be hushed, but this was just ridiculous. They had some acoustic tiles on the ceiling, but the restaurant section has two long parallel and absolutely flat hard-surfaced walls, and the sound from the rest of the pub just bounces between them until it is deafening. Hire an acoustic engineer, FFS! The other caveat was the crab and calamari linguini. It was supposed to have a hint of chilli but the chef had emptied what seemed like half a packet of chilli flakes into to, completely swamping all other flavours and ruining the dish. In retrospect, we should have sent it back to the kitchen. The lamb nicoise was excellent, as were the grilled halloumi vegetarian offering and the the Bondi burger from the kid's menu - yes, it is child-friendly, which is nice. The deconstructed pig's head as fish fingers entree with piccalilli was tasty if a bit overhyped by the waiter, and the triple-cooked chips, which were good, were actually wedges. Overall though, pretty good, but quality control in the kitchen could be improved. And please, just fix the bloody noisiness!

Nothing good about this establishment. The manager bit my head off any time I went to order a drink. The barmaid was rude if I ordered off her. Maybe I didn't have the correct beard. I've been a local for years and its progressively got worse and now is to the point I won't go there. Rude staff everytime I have been there. If I could give less than one star I would.

Had our Christmas Party there, great party food in a nice space. I also have had a birthday there in the private dining room. The chef Matthew Kemp was from one of my old favourite restaurants and he still delivers!

A delightful neighbourhood gem whether you're in the mood for a drink or something a little more sophisticated this place caters well for both.

The scallop and kingfish Ceviche was delicious and paired well with the avocado puree. Lamb shoulder main was delicious and the red wine jus lovely. The accompanying side salad of Parmesan cheese, pine nuts and roasted cauliflower was impeccable overshadowing the actual main itself!

The Charo is a man without a country. Patronized by islanders and bricklayers the Charo caters to the gritty fingered diggers on the front lines of the class war. These are the real heroes of the long march into Australian oblivion. The drinkers, the fighters, the droolers. The stools are hard and the liquor's harder. And the wenches working the taps are tougher than dice. I come for the carpet, which is mottled, irregular and smells of glue. You should come for the arm wrestling and hugs. They're free. And your spirit will be too after frequenting the last working man's island in that ocean of latte snobbery that Waverley has become.

Stayed in accommodation. Below average for price. Good if you drank too much and need a bed. Shower cold to tepid 3/4 nights. Shower mouldy, not cleaned from prior guest. Smelled. Not minimal housekeeping-NO HOUSEKEEPING. Light from am sun - argh if you want to sleep in. Noisy -ear plugs help. Would i stay again? No.

Definitely way too expensive for what it is. Room was freezing and no heater available. No room service. Loudest room I've ever stayed in. Even on Sundays music until 1am. Stayed here because of the location to an event nearby but wouldn't recommend it otherwise.

Agree with the last poster. The new owners are doing a great job of rejuvenating this place. Last night it was absolutely packed for tranny bingo. We had friends over from London and they loved it. The food menu has been extended and improved, and the beer garden is the nicest of any of the pubs in the area.

Very disappointing! My friends and I went here for lunch on a Sunday, some of us had our our babies with us, and the staff made us feel like we were being rushed the entire time. There is also no changing facilities for babies - despite the disabled toilet having "baby changing facilities" painted on its door in bold letters. Instead they seem to be using the disabled toilet as a storage room for an extra TV screen and other stuff - which is also not a nice experience for anyone in a wheelchair. Maybe it's time they repainted the door of the disabled toilet to "storage room" to set the right expectation. Thankfully their long seat in the dining room area is wide enough to be used as a nappy changing surface.

Pleasantly surprised with our first visit to the Charing. The gonocchi was the best I ve ever eaten but for the price the meal serves are very small. Would be 5 stars if serving sizes were a little larger.

Tried the burger at Charing Cross hotel for the first time, and enjoyed it!

The burgers were pink, and tasty; the French fries were nice and crispy.

The hotel has a beer garden in case you want to enjoy your food and drink outside.

We will come back.

Up the road from my aunty s nursing home, great food at the venue so no need to go out searching. Friendly staff, clean & tidy room. Only missed a towel rail in the bathroom, an underlay & not enough of a doona on the bed...nothing major.

Food is 7 out of 10, some items not available! Snapper! Lamb shoulder!

Steak - 6.5 out of 10 ...gristle
King crab , cuttlefish 7 out of 10..

Bar Staff 5 out of 10

Food staff 6 out of 10

Nice food above average!

But the staff are disapontingly slow to respond, as if aloof...this is at a bar half full Saturday night.

Nice layout large open but not good for disabled people as the toilets are upstairs? No real access!

Getting from the dinning area around the bar through the people standing next to the bar is not easy either!

No clear path at all! Inside the place I found it , Better to go outside around and in the other entry to access the stairs to the only toilets.

Over all seems good if you're for and able

Wouldn't stay here again. We needed a place near Bondi Junction and this was cheap. It's not really set up for accommodation. It's really a pub with rooms upstairs. Rooms have no curtains so it's daylight by 6am. No sound proofing and the rooms are all along a 5 way intersection. No aircon so don't stay here in summer. Advertised as free parking but that means we have to scour the nearby residential streets for parking esp overnight. Breakfast not available. Loud music Thur to Sat. No reception. TV don't work. No drawer space. No bedside light. Room not serviced during our stay.

Went down to the dining room to get some food at 8pm on Thurs and was told they have stopped taking food orders because the kitchen was overwhelmed!

Food is pretty good from the dining room part but we had fish last night in the bar and it was so over cooked I couldn't swallow it it was so dry.
The girls in the bar are all very friendly and helpful
As for the accomodation do not consider it. Just the room and two beds and a shower. No Tele, no chair kettle cups or glasses but very friendly cockroaches. It's a pity because it is in a good location and looks far better on the net than it does in reality

A group of 6 went to this restaurant last Saturday night. Whilst the refurbishment is great and so were the entrees, my main was inedible due to excessive salt and dryness.(ordered the pork belly). Have never in my life complained about a meal and was very nice about it, however... the attitude of the restaurant manager was outrageous to say the very least. She returned to the table to tell me that the chef had tasted my meal and that he and she thought I was wrong. I was astounded that she bothered considering I had resorted to eating a bowl of peas for my dinner at the cost of $32. No apology, just outright rudeness and arrogance. She even said she did not care if I wrote a review. So here it is. The restaurant was far from busy on a Saturday night and nor was the bar following our dinner. We will not be returning. Such a shame that a local treated it's locals in this way. We went across the road to the Robin Hood - much more fun was had there.

Tasty food, family friendly and great atmosphere. Love the quiet Sunday nights- great place to grab a bite with friends without a headache. Enough atmosphere to be fun without so much noise that you can't talk.

Great
