They've done a nice job of smartening the plane up. The restaurant is great, but I find it a bit hard to hear in the bar.

Food gone downhill of late. Fairly uninspiring pub food at restaurant prices. My $25 Caesar salad was particularly disappointing. Cold and relatively bland.
Ok place for a drink but skip the food.

Great beers on tap, have done a great job on the reno, and have created a much-needed up-market option for friends to meet and dine in the area.

Nicely refurbished. Good beers and tasty food, but calling lettuce leaves taco shells is a stretch!

After waiting over an hour for our food, we were told it would be 5mins, only to be then told that our order never went through & offered our money back. We were starving & very disappointed. Plus for a big Pub the only toilets have now been relocated upstairs!

Was served a raw chicken sandwich. No apology, just gave me another sandwich after I had thrown up in their bathroom... like I'm really going to eat after that! No thanks, used to come here at least once a week but never coming back.

Food not great, alcohol too expensive. Manager was obnoxious and all in all not a friendly place

First time back in about a year and I hope it will become a regular. Good food, ordered at the bar, and delivered to your table. Comfortable with no drama. Just the way to enjoy Sunday dinner.

Charing Cross Hotel in Waverley is a great spot for a late night drink and entertainment. They have food and wines available and friendly staff. The owner/ Manager, Digger, is a sweetheart. Open with usually solo or duo performing until closing at 1am on Friday and Saturday nights. Places to sit away from performance if you want to talk and catchup with friends.

Staff were fast and friendly. The food was great, but very overpriced.

Super unfriendly and unwelcoming from the moment I stepped through the door. Staff couldn't even manage a simple hello. I had one beer, and regret even staying that long. Will never go back.

It has been recently renovated and looks great - really fresh with white interiors and cool decor. We didn't realise you had to book to get into the restaurant so ended up having steak from the pub menu which was pretty good. The fat cut chips were great!

Food average. Anf don't get in the way of the staff especially the manager guy with the black curly hair who was swinging tables and chairs within inches of us, including our 1 year old, throughout our meal in the bar. Definitely not a customer first

We revisited the pub last Sunday around 4 for a $30 roast and found it extremely loud with sports on and not an ideal place to meet with young kids as it has been previously given the small amount of low tables available and how busy it was. You could not hold a conversation it was so loud. Not enjoyable. Also three of our roasts had hot veges but near cold meat. Given our rush to get out with the kids we did not send it back. I told who looked like the manager to tell the chef for future meals but was met with an indifferent you could have sent it back and she did not seem concerned or apologetic.

Went there for Sunday roasts in August, found out that the sausages was fully raw when we cut into them
They replaced our dishes without bringing new cutleries(we asked for new ones as they were in contact with raw meat)
Asked the waitress to bring us cutleries, she did - with attitude, dumped some knifes and forks on our table without putting any napkins down
Then we asked for some napkins(there were none insight even for us to grab by ourselves), given attitude again as we watched the same waitress chucked those napkins on our table
Our mood was pretty much ruined at this point, plus their average tasting roasts ain't exactly helping to cheer us up. Even the arancinis they gave us as an apology for trying to poison us with raw sausages were way below average
We get it that you might be understaffed but that's no excuse for such appalling service, horrible

Great place with friendly staff and live music, but how they can charge $30 for a roast dinner without any roast vegetables is beyond me. Great wine list and reasonably priced overall, just wouldnt go back for a roast.

The manager of this place is a bit weird; he seems to be looking everywhere instead of serving what is right in front of him. Manager aside, I like this place, it has an English vibe to it of being made to socialise and half decent grub. Consist good food and service.

What have they done to the fish and chips it was one the best in Sydney but now fair dinkum I wouldn't feed it to my dog come on charro get the original one back on the menu

Nicely renovated pub, with an excellent selection of craft beers. I enjoyed several schooners of Young Henry's Natural Lager. Also tried some of their bar snacks. I'll definitely be going back for the arancini balls. Bar staff were super friendly.

Good service, average food. A nice place to have drinks and pub dinner. The staff is trying very hard, the setting is nice but the food is a bit overpriced for what it is. It feels that the menu is tad too pretensions

This hotel was the worst hotel I have ever been in. The cupboards were filled with mould, there were cockroaches running across the bathroom floor, the room only had one half working fan, the room wasn't cleaned between nights and the bar staff were rude and impatient . Worst night's sleep

Unfortunately have to give the Charing Cross only a 2 star review. Went today after hearing good reports and checking out their photos online.

Firstly we arrived and waited quite some time before we got a menu even tho we specifically asked what area to sit in to order food.

Waited quite some time for the Sunday roasts but they were very tasty my only complaint would be the potatoes were overcooked and a bit burnt.

However the most ridiculous thing was that we ordered 2 starters to share between 3. These arrived at the same time as the roasts. Completely idiotic and stupid what is the point in ordering starters if they come with the main course - I don't want to eat my soup whilst alternating between dishes.

Overall the food was tasty cannot complain on that front - French soup was not cooked and served properly but it was tasty. The roasts were tasty except for the roast potatoes.

Service was poor in general for a quiet Sunday afternoon and the mess up with starters and mains baffled me. Unfortunately probably won't return.

Nice outdoor and indoor areas, friendly staff, nice wine. No pokies!!! Don't love the food but maybe we were just unlucky. They charge extra for chips with a burger I think (check menu). Lovely spot for a catch up.

Very nice place for a Sunday afternoon roast & red wine. Quite a lot of beers on tap & decent wine selection. Roast was definitely one of the better in Sydney, but go early - they ran out of some options by 4.30pm. You can walk in during this period if you are a small group. Staff weren't super friendly however, just functional.

Had a great dinner here. The leg of lamb is awesome. Staff really friendly had a great night.

Thursday $1 oysters, can't go wrong! Also like an early Sunday dinner here. Food in bar is good, there is a live musician, nice chill vibe.

Great menu. The King Fish was delicious, but the lamb cutlets were a little disappointing. Generally good service and good food.

I expect more than re-heated Yorkshire putdding, potatoes and fatty meat for $29-$32 roast price.

Great location, nice venue, good drinks selection and good burgers.

We visited Charing Cross Hotel on 2nd February. Great historical place and a beautiful beer garden, although due to weather we decided to sit inside anyway. Spacious and clean. The food was delicious and the atmosphere at the time we visited was average - although you cannot pick that in any place and it isn't the venues fault, given they have no control on that. The one thing that really impressed was how helpful and friendly the staff were. They made our visit - thank you.

Great place for a social event. Plenty of room for your group.

We had a really great Sunday lunch here. Fully recommend it. Great buz and lovely old Art Deco building. Good crowd too. Rwally recommend. Roast pork, potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and veg. Was awesome

Burger was tasty, drink selection is okay. Nice beach-inspired decor.

Dining room on a Sunday afternoon was surprisingly empty, but they had a big night before and so many dishes were sold out. Sirloin steak is a must try (accompanying sauce is magnificent). Other than that, the pork belly was also a crowd favorite, as were the sticky date and doughnuts dessert dishes. Good for groups, easy to get parking on side streets and friendly service. Will be back!

Clean ,nice ensuite, noisy on weekend, bed in room 1 needs replacing, meals are good price and tasty, staff very friendly, its a pub so dont expect normal accompdation

Food wasn't good at all, Pub that is... I've heard great things about the restaurant. Frozen fries were hollow and the prawns we're like fried bait and pizza I think come from Domino's. Was really nice in front of the fireplace though and the beers we're good although a little Rich in dollars. I'll be back but not to eat on this side of the bar.

Been going here for many years, love the courtyard, foods usually good albeit a little pricey and if i'm on a date I would tend to pick this place over the RH next door, just because it has a more upmarket feel to it!

Not a bad pub but some weird things going on at night. Loud party in the room next door. Some very dodgy things going on when I knocked on the door to ask them to quiet down.

Love this place! The revamp is awesome, it s family friendly now and no sports in the lounge area. The food is unreal especially the roast and the cocktails are also the staff are friendly and down to earth. All except one blonde haired lady who was clanging about with a grumpy face and delivered food to our table with a smash and didn t even look at us. She was upset about the bar being disorganised but obviously doesn t care about customer service. All the other staff put the patrons first and that is what s most important.

Ate at the Charo Dining Room recently. Overall had a good experience, ordered the angus steak rare ($38) and the butter they serve with it is excellent. Food was a touch slow to arrive however.

Also note that the Charo bar food is separate to the Charo Dining Room food. Pubs are changing to market themselves a little more 'up market' than they used to be (trend across Sydney over time). i.e. if you want the cheaper food just sit in the pub/bar area, if you want the more fancy expensive experience go Dining Room.

Very disappointing! My family and I went here for lunch, It felt like we were asking the staff to stick pins in their eyes when trying to order food and drink. This place really lacks good customer service which is a pity because the pub itself is nice and the food is good. The managers seemed to have the worst attitudes. There is also no changing facilities for babies.

Great place for a drink however I have been many times with friends and the manager is just so obnoxious. Last time I went he was drinking wine behind the bar and just so rude for no reason. He needs a break away from hospitality for a while I think. Not going to go back for a while and hopefully when we do he has gone.

Good, renovated pub not far from Bondi Junction. Food is ok and the selection of beers is great. Big TV's for sport and there is a nice friendly environment for families.

Great look and feel. Some parts are a little cramped so it could be tricky getting a table sometimes.

Great local pub, but the food on my latest visit was not up to the normaly high standards.

Such a vibrant pub. Its both indoors and outdoors. We had our work Xmas party here once and continue to go every year since as well as farewells in the restaurant because the food is so delicious. We recently went there during covid19 restrictions in place and it was limited menu which was a shame however prior to that the duck fat chips ..steak tartare and the steak rib eye was to die for...

Excellent food and really friendly and efficient staff. Not too noisy and great coffee.
