Truly disappointed with Champneys Tring. Booked here after several recommendations from friends and family but it is safe to say we certainly won't be recommending to anyone ever, nor will we be returning.
Reception was chaotic and unorganised during check in and check out.
Room was adequate but our bathroom was not clean, several hairs wrapped around the shower head that definitely did not belong to us (on the upside they were clearly hairs from someones head and not other parts of they body)

Had an absolute nightmare in the restaurant on our first evening. Dinner booked for 7pm, started came out quickly and were lovely. 45 minute was after starters for our main meal, sitting and watching several tables around us finish up and leave. Eventually our mains did arrive which were average at best. Had the dinner not have all 3 courses included we certainly wouldn't have ordered a dessert. However we did, and decided to order something chilled that we thought would simply have come straight out of a fridge to be served. Despite this tactical decision, it still took 20 minutes to arrive after we'd orders. Now sitting in an almost empty restaurant.

Female spa toilets filthy - they had clearly been "cleaned" as there was still bleach in the bowl however the yellow/orange stains under the seat had definitely been there for days, if not weeks. Also water leaking from a light fitting above the swimwear dryer - which we did notify a member of staff to on our first day.

Spa treatments were average at best, especially considering they have the Champneys Beauty College on site, we've certainly had far better for far cheaper elsewhere.

It's nice to experience the original champneys but...

It's nice to experience the original champneys but the reason we've given this rating is for a few reasons, which we've listed below. I understand it's a lot of work to maintain such an old building but small things like service could be worked on to make it better.

The building is a little tired around the edges, even though it's in the process of being renovated - there is still a long way to go, including the bedrooms. Our bathroom was mouldy, with panels pealing around the bath and there is no Aircon in the rooms (not a basic room, but not a suite). The coffee machine in the room looks impressive, but just give it a miss as it didn't work and just made a mess. There is also a strange green light in the room we had that you couldn't turn off and not great if you like a pitch black bedroom to sleep in!

The treatments were a little hit and miss, I had an amazing facial with Aylin, my massage was poor and my partner's massage was average. The first treatment room I experienced was lovely, the second and the one my partner had was in definite need of care with the ceiling coming down due to damp in one corner.... Not a nice thing to look at during a treatment.

The class I tried was good, the gym was nice and not too badly equipped and the "spa areas" are nice, if a little small and it gets quite busy with day spa visitors.

Food wise, the service is hit and miss in the restaurant, simple things like coffee at breakfast not arriving without asking a few times or being delivered to another table, having to ask for bowls or plates and wrong desserts arriving in the evening.

The WiFi is terrible with little to no mobile reception which was a bit of a pain, as there is little to do after dinner, unless you like dominos (4 packs in the music room) and basic TV channels.

Some reception staff were lovely and helpful, others such as Rodderick were abrupt and you had to ask several questions to get a useful answer from him and feel he could do with a little customer service training.

Overall, it's not a bad spa, but not as good as some others that we have visited throughout the country. I would say it's a 3* hotel, not a 4*.

We had high hopes, but we will go to other spas next time.

Having looked forward to have a relaxing day at Champneys with a massage and facial booked i was so so disappointed . The facilities were ok and we had a fairly good lunch , nothing to rave about but pretty nice and acceptable. Having looked forward to my hour massage and a relaxing facial i couldnt wait to get into the treatment room . Once my massage started it was like a torture i was literally being tickled and caressed, i asked for more pressure but that did not happened , it was by far THE WORST MASSAGE EVER. At least i had the facial to look forward to , but oh my goodness i wish i had never asked for a facial , it was awful , a 30 minute facial consisted of her doing the following :
1 wipe face clean
2 apply mask (stare at me for 10 minutes, while i just laid there )
3 wipe mask clean
4 apply a heavy load of sticky greasy moisturiser
She literally did not do anything to make it feel a bit special and relaxing , and it was quite funny as she had taken a full history of what my skin concerns were .
To put it lightly the TREATMENT WAS A JOKE , and only because i did not wanna ruin a relaxing day with my friend i did not mention anything , but normally i would not even pay a penny for such poor treatment .
I was overall very disappointed with such a huge company like Champneys for hiring such inexperienced staff and to be honest i would not return again , as i said the facilities were ok but would never ever spend any money on getting a massage and a facial . I have lost my confidence in Champneys. I hope my review will make others consider paying for treatments at this facility and i hope the management does something in monitoring there staff and hopefully give them more training .

Poor value for money. Badly run, rude staff, basic facilities, you are just paying for the name. Nearly everything you have to pay for as an add on. Meals are dry and tasteless, hard to find towels, all public areas are a mess and pretty dirty.

Dinner was poor, felt rushed, decor is dated, portions are small, we were left hungry, only drinks options are water or wine, no soft drinks or hot drinks available for after dinner.

Rooms are ok, bathroom dated and dirty. Absolutely nothing to do after dinner. No where to hang your dressing gown in your room.

Hallways are dirty from building work, cold especially in a gown coming from the pool.

Treatments were great but no different from any other spa so not worth the premium.

Don't be fooled by the name! Book somewhere else!!

Amazing spa day with my sister for her birthday. We loved the relaxation room and it's great that the thalasso is now open and doesn't require a booking. The outdoor pool was really nice when surrounded by snow. The only reason for 4 stars not 5 is that the swimming pool area was not very nice, you cannot see out of the windows and it makes it feel very closed in.

Where do I start. Well the grounds staff and food are amazing really cant fault it. But the room we had number 66 was like a premier inn room no better then that and for the money you pay I would expect it to be better. The spa facility is ok at first look it seems lovely then you start to notice things like rust and very bad repair work the steam in the mens changing room has little tiles on the benches and walls I think there are more tiles missing then are there. As I said I think it's just the little things they need to sort out and it will be an amazing place.

Shocking / Poor Experience. Rooms look extremely tired. Our room had the door forced previously with a damaged door and frame. Plasterboard was also coming adrift and the grout / sealant in the bathroom was coming adrift. Furniture was very tired. Would have got a better quality room in a hostel. Treatments were also average. Be careful as staff will start treatment late but finish on time, leaving you feeling short changed Complained to the company and couldn't care less. Management feel this is acceptable.

I booked Champney's for my husbands 25th birthday. Our welcome was very poor, we were promised some welcome refreshments which we were not given, the lady at reception didn't give us a proper tour so we were pretty confused at the beginning and got told to go to the spa reception. Our timetables for the day were terrible, my husband and I had completely different times for our treatments, again something we had to sort out ourself at the desk, only one lady after speaking to four people actually helped us out - awful customer service. I pre booked afternoon tea, I was given a voucher on the day and told to go and book in a time at the cafe, on the phone I was promised all of the itinerary would be sorted and afternoon tea would be booked in. A very poor start to the day and was really not happy with this level of service from the welcoming team.

Showers were automated and kept turning off, the heating was not adjustable so it was too cold for us.

The only people i'd like to thank is Marcell & Rosie for fantastic treatments, they're the only people that made our experience worth it.

The spa itself, the services, classes and staff are amazing. I was prepared to have a boring weekend as a +1 with my wife but thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The downside to the stay is the room itself which was very basic, the fact 2 single beds were only available and not a double/king. Additionally the WiFi was woeful, don't expect a reliable or fast connection, you'll have to reconnect frequently, there is little to no mobile reception. If you're fully up for a weekend off the grid then you'll love the place.

Just arrived to be told all the treatments which timed out on the website went through. OK a pain but not a huge problem. Now want to watch the rugby on my phone. There is no WiFi or telephone signal. Disappointing start. Champneys update. I like to read websites and catch up with news. I have walked around this place. There is No decent WiFi anywhere. The day is getting worse get me out. Jacuzzi not working and pissing out water is not very safe.

Really lovely day with my daughter, fantastic buffet lunch, so much choice. Looks like they have refurbished quite a lot too. Mid week, not too busy. They just need to change the tiles around the main pool and it will look much better, more in keeping with 'luxury' feel.

I enjoyed our overnight spa stay, there were a few areas that could ve been better but overall it was great.

The spa itself is large and you definitely should get the tour from reception. The food is health-focussed and delicious with a great selection and real variety to suit all needs and tastes.

The pool was ok but one depth of 1.3m felt limiting and lanes would ve helped to regulate accomplished swimmers from those wanting a more general swim.

I had an incredible massage for 50 minutes and felt so relaxed but I have to say the room I was in was really sparse and didn t add to the relaxation experience in the slightest - it was bare, smelled funny with no atmosphere or immersion .

Reception at the hotel was where I felt service really fell down. The staff were uninterested and not engaged with visitors, actively avoiding eye contact with anyone waiting around for fear they might have to do something or answer a question. I went to reception 3 times to change my slippers - no one wanted to help me. One receptionist completely ignored me and started helping the couple behind me at one point. The couple were mortified and I simply walked away, giving up entirely.

Beware if you are staying in the Manor House part of the facility as it s very old and we spent the entire night kept awake by rattling doors and windows from the wind outside. I d request one of the more modern garden rooms next time.

I will return to the spa as the good far outweighed the bad but have learned some valuable lessons about the place.

Service was horrible right from the beginning at reception when we check in. The reception seems to be in a hurry, all information is on the leaflet despite we try to ask questions like when does the spa close, how we book in treatments? Etc

I have asked for a razor kit, and the customer service came in 3 times and gave me a dental kit, a floss kit and something else before a razor kit.

Infrastructure and decoration at the hotel to be fair is really beautiful, but services are absolutely horrible...

Second time we've been and tbh, not very impressed this time. Standards have slipped. It was filthy in various areas, nobody to realign the few chairs there which were covered in towels and robes that sat there all day. Nobody squeedgy'ing (not a word but best I could do) the excess water from the plunge pool

Toilet paper ws like using sand paper, Luxurious, "my arse"...excuse the pun.

Also some of the treeatment pools seemed a lot cooler than usual. Although that might have been because we heated up from being so annoyed at spending so much money and getting no luxury.

Food was decent at lunch. And the grounds were well kept, thats why it got any stars at all.

Lovely building set in idilic countryside. The staff where welcoming and as helpful as you could ask for. The whole organisation is definatly geared towards "health spa" there are nutrition talks and a lack of carbs on the menu. Room was clean and tidy. The main house must be stunning to stay in. The garden wing is a posh travel lodge type feel in decor and lay out. The treatments recived where fab! Highly recomend wish we had booked more. Would go back. The smoking shelter was away in the garden and not lit at night.

Wouldn't stay at the hotel again, maybe do a day spa but to be honest, you can get a day spa in central London much cheaper and less busy. We were given two single beds despite asking for a double, took 3 hours to have it converted. Was woken at 9am and 8am by housekeeping to turn down the rooms; told them to come back at 10 and as they didn't we were left without new water or loo roll each day (the tap water tasted strange). The bathroom smelled of rotting wood. Service was non-existent (leaving a message did nothing either). It is basically an out-dated and poorly managed hotel attached to an expensive spa. My first and now only experience of a spa resort stay I'll say!

A lovely relaxing day, with a special thank you to Jackie in the marine wellness spa for the consultation and care. We went to heaven with the the hydrotherapy bath ( & Egyptian bath milk ) Divine beyond divinity.

The restaurant needs a look at though, very grubby, dirty plates, unwashed table mats etc and floor absolutely littered with rubbish. Very disappointed there.....

Amazing, had an issue with a treatment / therapist but was handled very well, when reported, so no complaint forwarded and no points deducted. Beautiful setting and the free upgrade on arrival was a lovely touch. All the staff I approached were friendly and helpful. The cleaners work very hard and do an amazing job in a very big building.

It was really lovely. We visited Tring, the staff were all lovely, the food was great and the rooms etc. The only reason it didn't get 5 stars was because you have to pay extras.. like extras for tea and coffee, certain foods of the menu etc. For the expensive price to begin with it shouldn't be this way. However I got a facial with a lovely lady called Bee, it was great and she was so friendly!:)

average. The gardens are amazing and the building has the potential once it gets renovated. However the food is baaad. We had to pay extra money to have something decent for dinner. The brownie, even though we paid extra, was from tesco according to the waiter (it was also overcook in the micro according to the waiter again). Overall I don't think it neither luxurious nor worth the price.

Love it here!! The place is lovely and the food is great. My mum and I always do an overnight spa stay on my birthday, great value.

The deep tissue massage was probably the best massage I have ever had and the lady was really friendly and kept checking the pressure was ok.

Rooms were clean and modern. I will go back on my next birthday without fail.

Love it here. We certainly have to book 2 nights to gain the full relaxation experience. The food is brilliant and plenty of it, particularly breakfast and lunch. Only a few minor issues this visit, our initial room had quite a few insects in - dead and alive - but this was quickly remedied with a room change.

** The outdoor spa has had the option to let the jets turn off taken away, this is a real shame because it used to be great relaxing out there in the quiet**.

The gym is a little basic, with everything moving toward weight based rather than cardio I thought there may be some better equipment this time round. They have created the 'urban gym' now though which looks like a great set up for hiit classes which are all still really good. The stretch and core class was really nice too.

The review sounds a bit like I'm complaining but generally everything is excellent at this place!

Awful customer service and incredibly damaging for the brand.

Like many others, I booked a multi night stay at Tring which was understandably cancelled due to the current circumstances.

I was offered a voucher with a 12 month shelf life, which started running from the day it was issued (mid April) albeit it cannot be used yet as their doors are still shut...? And refused a refund as the advisor stated via email, we will not be authorising any refunds at this time. I was however told that I wouldn't be charged an administration fee for when I rescheduled booking - how incredibly kind and thoughtful!

I have taken it to Amex to open a case to pursue a charge back.

Good luck to Champneys getting back on your feet after CV-19. You will definitely need it given how many people you will have upset.

I will never again use Champneys but will be sure to pass on my distaste to anyone who happens to mention to the name.

wow wish i would have checked on here before booking - all the sites i looked at spoke of this site highly - but then again that is what you pay advertisers for.

I'll cut to the chase, made a booking for Day spa 14/2/16 and the booking process was simple panless and easy - oh apart from the part where the girl on the phone told me that there was a supplementary to pay as the weekends were the busiest time- when i agreed and she confirmed the price i said "whooooaaa" why is that... she repeated it was for the supplementary then when i told her i may aswell book it cheaper elsewhere after she argued the toss with me to say that i would not get it cheaper elsewhere i said yes i will your website!!! so DO NOT CALL THEM BOOK ONLINE AS IT WILL BE CHEAPER!!!!
i had also PAID for a bouquet of ARRIVAL flowers- ask me when i received them?????

I was recommend to this particular Champneys site- however i would not recommend this site and to be frank i doubt i would recommend any champneys as i now feel it is an overhyped dissapointment.

But thank you Champneys for taking alot of my money and delivering very little for it!

A lovely spa just outside of london. Very accommodating and comfy. Staff are lovely. Food is ok. Parts of it could be refurbed and updated a bit. Poor service, treatments over priced and shoddy, staff couldn't give two sh*ts and rooms akin to premier inn rather than a 'five star hotel'.. Clearly having them on deal sites has completely diluted their service levels. Although, by the sounds of all the reviews they have always been this bad. If you like noisy hen dos screaming down the corridor all night - you will love it here.

Amazing weekend stay at Champneys, Tring! Top notch service, great facilities and beautiful surroundings.

The staff do all they can to make you feel at home and deliver the best experience possible, from the treatments to the food.

I stayed here for a night with friends for my 40th birthday and it was a truly wonderful stay and just the relaxing break we needed (without our children ).

I would definitely recommend to friends and family alike, knowing that there is something for everyone and I really don't think anyone would leave feeling disappointed.

We had a great time. Thank you so much for giving us a memorable weekend away. Can't wait to return!

I had a lovely room and the spa is great, but a few annoying things happened. They ask you to fill I a guest form before your arrival to book any extras and ask for your robe and slipper size. I did this, but they didn't use the information - what was the point???
Also, a member of staff opened my locker in the fitness area without my permission - apparently another guest told her to. Luckily they retrieved my belongings and no one got into my room.
Finally I waited 30+ minutes for my food to arrive at dinner...
So all in all, okay, but I've stayed in better spa resorts.

Visited here today for a spa day which was a gift for my Christmas and I have visited once before a few years ago. I felt very safe when visiting, everyone had to wear a mask when moving around and there was a one way system around the facilities. Everything was open (except limited to the no. of people in each area) except the steam room and sauna and you only have to book the pool and gym. Usually the lunch is a buffet set up but it is now a la carte, which I think is even better than before! Definitely recommend Champneys xoxo

Terrible customer service and made to feel unwelcome and victimised just because we were wearing our workwear when checking in after a hard days work. I then received a call in the evening saying that our 3 day stay would be terminated and it was a mistake for checking us in! This was after politely agreeing to the strict dress code on check in. I also have a permanent physical disability which I sustained whilst serving in the British Military. I struggle with getting about as it is, without being asked to leave and to choose a different hotel. I m not happy about this situation at all and will seek more guidance and will also speak with the local press. There is also a severe lack of disabled parking and don t think this hotel is suited for people with disabilities from what I have seen. Unfortunately this hotel thinks it s something it s not.

Time for our annual spa retreat! There's no such thing as being too spoilt

One of the best spas I've been to. Staff were professional and offered a great service. They made each of us feel special with VIP treatment.

Getting out of London, lounging in a robe all weekend and being pampered is definitely the way to recharge. I wish I could do this more often!

Treatments can be booked on top. I had the Citrus Blush Body Ritual and Moisture Miracle which left me feeling so relaxed and pampered. My only complaint was that I wish they lasted longer!

Wheelchair access : The manor is massive but it was fine getting around. Treatment rooms were easy to get to and the beds lowered to a good height for me to transfer. They have accessible rooms with roll-in showers and height adjustable shower seats. There are steps to the jacuzzi and sauna though.
