What a hidden gem this place is! I don't know how many times I've passed by it in my travels and wondered about it, but at the last minute I took my grandkids to see their "Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer" puppet show and we all loved it! Afterwards we went through the museum and the puppet displays were nothing short of outstanding!!!
Well worth the trip! It was time very well spent. I recommend you visit. I promise both adults and kids will love it.
This place is magical! So much interactive fun for all ages
This place was amazing. What a way to relive childhood. Very informative tour guide.
What is not to like very cool place the shows the the museum the craft rooms
Easily one of the coolest things in Atlanta. Live puppet shows. Amazing displays. We went to see the Jim Henson exhibit and the crowd was very light. No issue parking.
Completely delightful place. Wonderful performances and one of the best puppetry museums anywhere. Over half of the museum is about Jim Henson and the extraordinary work he did. If you are interested in puppetry this is a must see.
Enjoyed all except the long wait for the puppet show.
New museum and shrine to Jim Henson. Become a member. Your childhood is calling
The people here are so inviting, you can tell they love what they do!
Great museum. We started in the Jim Henson Collection. First room is a display of how the puppets are created. Then into different rooms full of the muppets and puppets that Jim Henson and his company created. We then went into the Global Collection. Very neat to see the different range of puppets. And got to see an original Gumby and Tim Servo and CROOOOOOOOW! They also had a Collection devoted to the Dark Crystal. Including models, sketches, and clothing for the movie. The gift shop was full of different puppets and sets for sale, but we were disappointed in the lack of items branded with the center's name. They only offered magnets. I would have loved to grab a t-shirt, and a car sticker- or one for my laptop, or something to promote it. We loved our visit, kids and adults alike.
Outstanding exhibits! Must see if you like Jim Henson! Muppets exhibit, w some things from The Dark Crystal in that exhibit. Entire seperate exhibit for labyrinth with a fantastic set-up!
This place is a treasure! We found ourselves with unexpected time in Atlanta, casting about for things to do. The Puppetry Center is not difficult to find, and there are good places to eat nearby. We are fans of the Muppets, so we were delighted with the Jim Henson exhibits, which include Fraggle Rock and other creations, plus a facsimile of Henson's wokshop. If you live in the area, you can sign up for classes in puppetry. There is also an exhibit of puppets from around the world and down through time. It's a great place for children and adults to spend a morning or an afternoon.
Wonderfully done performances. Entertaining for all ages.
Impressive gallery collection covering the history and current culture. Have attended two different shows and was impressed and surprised by both. The people that volunteer there are very kind and professional. Highly recommend.
Had a great time. The show was good and the puppeteers took the time after the show to explain how the puppets work. The children loved it!
This place was awesome and my students loved it! We saw the live puppet show and they performed their adaption of "Click, Clack Moo Cows That Type" and it was very interactive as far as crowd participation goes, I even found myself singing along. At the end of the show, the puppeteers showed the crowd the mechanics that goes into controlling the puppets, which was nice and informative. Pictures weren't permitted. They offer workshops, where children and probably adults, can make their own puppets and they have a puppet musuem that we didn't get to see on the field trip but I will certainly make a trip back to experience the entire establishment. I was told an adult ticket for the puppet show was $14.75 without the workshop, I'm not sure about the musuem price. But overall, this place was an amazing experience. It was clean, friendly staff, beautiful decor in the lobby, and great service. I would've given 5 stars if I was able to see the enter center.
AMAZING! such talented people. Great production and interactive puppet making. The staff here was so wonderful and the puppetry was interesting for any age.
Fun and great for the entire family. Had a great time at " Click, Clack Moo...Cows that Type" (one of my son's fave books). Such an interactive show rhat engaged everyone. You can make your own puppet after the show, if you can follow the instructions; admittedly, I am not extremely "crafty"! The museum is fascinating, with one side dedicated to the career of Jim Henson, the other to international puppetry. The playground isn't open as it is being refurbished. A visit is a great way to enjoy a Saturday with the little ones!
Took my class to see Cat & The Hat. Great family show.
I Love it here! Can't get enough of the great performance! I have been 3 times with friends. We all loved it and we are not kids... lol I finally came to Atlanta with my family and I knew it was must to go with them. They loved it two, both boys and there mom, boys are 19 and 12... it's great for all ages. I highly recommend coming here to see the show and icing on cake they an AMAZING puppet museum.
The Center For Puppetry Arts is a fun place for kids, adults, and adults who are kids at heart. It is a museum in the typical sense. They show puppets from around the world and throughout time. Some spots in the world section are interactive. Such as the dragon fight and the shadow puppets from Asia.
The Jim Henson exhibit will take you back to your childhood and remind you why you love puppetry in the first place. When I went there was the special Dark Crystal exhibit. You'd be amazed how big the puppets are.
There's also a theater for puppet movies and shows. Classrooms for making your own puppets and they have a kids program and tour. There's something for everyone to enjoy there.
Glad we stopped in on our last visit to Atlanta! Colorful exhibits were wide-ranging and interesting, spent longer time here than we had planned because we enjoyed it!
Brings back good memories and makes life fun with smiles.
You feel the happiness while learning at the same time.
YES TOURED THE BASEMENT OF THIS PLACE WOULDN'T BELIEVE WHAT WAS IN THE WHOLE OF THIS WALL
Cute little museum but a little pricy for the amount of time we spent there
Great show! My wife and I took both grandchildren to see Aesop's fable and they loved it.
Kid loved the show and the Jim Henson Collection museum. Interesting historical accounts
One of the coolest places in Atlanta that most of the people don't seem to know about. You should visit.
The puppets there were cool, and I enjoyed learning about the historical puppets, but it made me wish there were more. It's kind of small.
I had the most fantastic time in the Jim Henson exhibit!
Both Children and adults can enjoy a nice time. It was fun to see so many kinds of puppets. My nephew visiting from PR liked it very much. So did I. You can purchase a ticket or check out a library pass to go for free. It was fun to stand in front of a monitor and make our own puppet show imitation. You can let go and be a kid for a while.
If you are a Jim Henson fan this is a must-see. A little pricey for the size of the venue. Exhibits are top notch and there are workshops for extra fees available as well. Super fun for kids of all ages!
It is a great place to kids to see a show, visit a museum, and do arts and crafts.
In absolute love. Staff is knowledgeable and welcoming. A gem in the middle of downtown Atlanta. Plenty of parking, a play structure for kids. 2 standing exhibits (Jim Henson and puppets of the world) and a rotating exhibit (featuring "The Dark Crystal"). Well worth the price of admission. Plenty of interactive elements and the wealth of information available is fantastic. This isn't even digging into their theater and classes. Recommend highly to anyone visiting the area.
We had a wonderful time here! Great exhibits and wonderful staff!!
We love the puppet shows. The museum is amazing. I never realized how tall Big Bird was until I saw the display in person. We take our grandson to almost every puppet show which is about every month or so. Our four year old grandson is always excited to see the newest show. More people should know about this because it is fascinating how many different types of puppetry there are.
Parking is a little tough but the staff was willing to help and gide people.
The Center is a wonderful institution. The children's programming is top notch, but the Center also reminds us that puppetry is an art form that can be used to tell many different stories, from the terrifying to the heartbreaking to the transformative. Some of the best performances and technical theatre work in Atlanta can be found in their productions. They frequently host guest performers from distinguished theaters. And the museum is not to be missed. Highly recommended.
Super fun! Your show ticket includes a kids puppet workshop and both museum exhibits. They also won an award for "Most fun workshop and classes" in Atlanta of 2017
Great museums, beautiful shows, and an awesome range of programming from family friendly to adults only.
Very neat. Especially enjoyed the exhibition covering puppets from cultures around the world.
Great for kids and adults alike, well priced admission & super cool exhibits. Check with your public library for a free pass for 4 people.
Lots of good information about puppetry. Website did not indicate that there would be no puppet show and making of puppets, so our grandchildren were very disappointed.
My family had a great time there. The puppet show was amazing. Best puppet production I have ever seen
We had a GREAT time today! Wonderful museum and puppet show. We will definitely go again when the grandchildren are in town.
If you enjoy puppets, or have ever seen anything done by Jim Henson, this place is for you! Had a blast seeing some of the behind the scenes or how puppets are made, as well as specific pieces of work from Jim Henson's studio. The current exhibit featuring "The Dark Crystal" was fantastic as well.
My daughter and I loved it so much I took my clients back to see the same show! Cat in the Hat was a hit.
Its was my first visit and I loved it! The Cat and the hat show was awesome and the energy and laughter from the kids made it even better. Will definitely go back again!!
Even though it is very small we still had a great time. Me and my wife are life long Jim Henson fans. We planned our entire trip around it. The dragon king puppet show was amazing and mesmerizing. The Jim Henson Collection was a dream come true. Big fans of the Dark Crystal and the labyrinth we love seeing them up close.
Caught a great show and had a tour of the Jim Henson exhibit that sent me right back to my childhood. This is definitely a labor of love for everyone that works here. Great place to visit and catch a fun show for all ages
I'm a big fan of Sesame Street so I loved the exhibit and the gift shop had plenty of characters for purchase. I'm going to have to go back a few times to get all of them lol.
It's a fun place for kids of all ages, the show was sold out, but we still had fun.
What an amazing experience. Not much else to say other than this is a true treasure and will no doubt bring back plenty of memories for many while also preserving them for another generation. The Jim Henson side of the museum, in particular, is incredible. The amount of time they have spent to tell his true story and build exhibits that are as true to original as possible is incredible. This is a great place to spend a couple of hours and well worth the price of entry!
Great experience! So cool to see all the characters that I spent so many hours watching on t.v.
We love center for puppetry arts. They have amazing shows with such energetic actors and the backstage team! The shows are typically 4 and up, however our 3 year old did great with them. They do have free parking if you can get there early. If you plan to attend 3 or more shows per year, it s worth getting the annual membership.
Unique and wonderful place! Fun for the whole family.
Had a great labyrinth display and sesame street area
Wonderful museum. Great evening performance of PAPER CUT.
One of the best and most interesting places I've had the pleasure of experiencing in the city. Every exhibit was interesting and engaging. Especially enjoyed the Dark Crystal exhibit. So much fun to see after watching the Netflix original series that's a prequel to the movie.
Excellent! We had a fun & brought back a great memory.
Great and unique exhibits... The Jim Henson collection alone is astounding... The staff is friendly, informative, helpful and it seems as though they enjoyed being there almost as much as I did. The theater and performance was a nice bonus to our visit.
So much fun my girl is still raving about Pete the Cat
We took our 2-year-old to see Rudolph. We all enjoyed it. The production was great! We will be going to see other shows.
Great exhibits and helpful staff! Recommend getting free passes from library for museum only. Not sure how good the performances are.
The entertainment was most delightful & staff was absolutely wonderful! My only minor complaints were tight seating (I was literally pressed against the stranger beside me) & the smell in the upper level theater. I'm guessing both are because the room is primarily intended for children, but it dampered my enjoyment of the show. My sense of smell is unusually strong, so it's likely not noticeable to most (my friend didn't seem to notice), I'll just have to remember to bring a scarf next time.
