The Celtic manor resort is a great place for a weekend stay with its many onsite facilities and activities. The staff are always welcoming and happy to assist with any requests. I have also attended professional events which are executed very well and efficiently. Highly recommended
Me and my wife stayed at the Signiture section of Celtic Manor Hotel, It was for our 1st anniversary. We had a spa day with 3 treatments and dinner at Steak on Six. The experience was amazing and the staff were very helpful. Highly recommended.
No way is this place 5 star
Took 3 hours to get lunch served
Using instant coffee.......
Desperately underwhelming
Went for the polo, seems to have changed a little, not as good as it used to be but still a great day out
Had a Cardiff room booked for an all day workshop. Excellent service as everything was large tv replaces the projector which is great and great views or the room.
Lunch buffet was excellent. Salmon teased great, great selection of desserts and tea coffee with cakes and biscuits available all day
Tea breaks were also will catered for
Need to invest in service, training, recruiting and paying the rate to attract the right people.
Car parking in main hotel is shambolic. You queue and queue and wonder why, you then find out the car that is four in front can't go in because the car park is full, no one can reverse because your are jammed in. This is a resort? No staff on hand to advise, pressed intercom only to be treated with complete indifference.
Friendly greeting at reception. Prosecco and card meant to be in room as a gift from friend's, it wasn't and they had no record, eventually sorted.
Spa very good, recommended.
The Olive Tree was great, some poorly trained and inexperienced staff let it down.
Very successful resort but heavily resting on its laurels.
Absolutely amazing went there for my son's 40th birthday staff were wonderful room was amazing food was gorgeous
Lovely overnight stay. Excellent customer service and great food. Nice atmosphere.
My children were a bit disappointed with leisure club rules, couldn't use pool til 3 pm due to adult only use between 11 and 3 despite it being half term week.
Parts of hotel feel dated and in need of revamp . Red canopy outside window was ripped and mouldy.
Overall would recommend.
Beautiful place, rooms were amazing too. Also a great place to play golf. Obviously
Attended for a meeting. Great facilities and food but unfortunately the coffee machines were not bean to cup which would have made it a 5 star rating for me.
Children ice skated, rink lovely, food basic not very appetizing
Fantastic hotel that caters well for its cliental. Have stayed multiple times for work and have never been let down. Good standard of food and great service. It deserves its reputation.
Very pleasant place to attend a conference. Good links to most places as it's just off the M4.
I went here for a paid spa day out. Having been to many places in London, people had told me this was a good place to go. The entire place is old and outdated and the spa is certainly not of the standard I expected at such an iconic hotel. Perhaps my expectations were too high?
Attended a friends wedding at the Chairman's Marquee. Venue was lovely, though path from carpark to the marquee could've been better lit.
Marquee beautifully decorated, food good, staff polite. Drinks very expensive!
Nice resort on hill top, various activities to do and access to 5 restaurants within the campus
Excellent Hotel and Conference facilities. Very impressed. Great Health club, pool and Spa.
Ruined what should have been a special occasion...didn't get the extras in the room which we had already paid for, things going missing from luggage whilst in "safe" storage, 40 minute wait for drinks, toilets which would have been deemed too extreme even for Trainspotting...the list is sadly far longer than that, all met with complete indifference from staff and eventually the offer that we could come back to meet the manager at some point in the future when they have some time free - although I'm not convinced there actually is a manager there.
The childrens entertainment seemed badly organised. Attempting to complete a basic treasure hunt was hard work - was informed that the clue sheet was unavailable, then sent to reservations, then back to an original place only to find it was then available. A good hour spent traipsing 2&4 year old around before we could even start the walk proper. Little legs were shattered!
Fantastic resort with so much to do, great service, food, accomodation
Love celtic manor friendly staff very helpful luke crampton exceptional manager
Amazing service, gorgeous hotel and great food, will definitely stay again
Mulberry bar! What an experience!! Infused cocktails, amazing staff and the sitting areas are so comfortable. Worth to try! Definitely I'll come back
Lovely venue for a meeting. 5*
Car parking however 1*, all had to queue to pay at manned kiosk. Then walk back to car to leave, no notification given to leaving carpark, we all thought it was pay at the gate in car, dreadful organisation, blocked the car park for all leaving and those attending next function.
Smart gate, allowing more cars in than allocated spaces, then notes put on cars that were told by staff to park on hash markings.
Bedlam.!
Sadly, it's starting to slip. We've always loved it here but our most recent visit was spoiled by a lack of information, (sent back and forth 2 locations across opposite sides of the resort for a spa treatment,) lack of control of unruly guests, slow service at times and some areas in need of repair. Paying the prices you do there whilst surrounded by groups of kids running around just isn't worth it, which is sad because it's always been an excellent bit of local luxury.
Very well organised, staff very pleasesant and approachable
First time at the Celtic Manor, really enjoyed the spa treatment and the resort as a whole is an incredible place with loads to do. Staff are very polite and food was great too, will certainly return. Shame Welsh weather can be so wet or this place would be even more popular.
Montgomerie course is in poor condition and the bar staff seem to struggle to smile. Everything seemed too much effort, argumentative and rude on not one but quite a few occasions. We was a group of 24 who didn't complain and just wanted to More
Superb Hotel but not informed that the restaurant's closed so only Bar snacks available (July 2018)
The staff are excellent.
Great place. Amazing building with amazing facility. The great hall is the biggest i have ever seen.
We booked to stay here for our 10 year wedding anniversary. Online the manor house looked beautiful so we booked a room with a 4 poster bed. On arrival we waited about 20 minutes to check in as only 1 person was serving and there was a huge party booking in. I did ask another member of staff if there was anyone else able to check us in as the car park isnt supposed to be used for longer then 20mins. He grumbled that he would look, walked off into the office behind reception and then when he came back out (with 2 other members of staff) they walked straight past without even acknowledging us.
When we finally checked in we were walking to our room when a couple were laughing that it was like faulty towers here.
We got to our room and were shocked by the state of it. It was so dated, there were stains down the walls which looked like red wine. The bed was tiny and unlike a 4 poster bed it was a divan with a tatty, wobbly and broken in places frame around it. The bath was stained and chipped, I wouldn't have got in. The view was just of a flat roof with scaffolding. Even the phone to reception didnt work. The room just felt so grim and it was such a big celebration and much needed childfree break. We went down and explained the problems to reception and asked if we could upgrade to a room in the main complex but they said there was nothing they could do and that there were absolutely no other rooms available.
We waited to speak to the manager.
Eventually he showed up at our room. We showed him the issues and he completely agreed. Our money was said to be refunded and we left (although over a week later we are still waiting for it to come through). Luckily there was a hotel close by at St. Pierre which went to alot of trouble to get us in and a good room by their lake.
My advice would be to steer clear of celtic manor we had such high hopes but it was a terrible room and experience we certainly wont be going back. Premier Inn felt cleaner and fancier then this, certainly not the luxury hotel we were expecting
I was shocked at the lack of facilities here, especially for wheelchair users. The staff were kind but lacking in experience and whilst the massage was nice, they had no facilities to support Disabled people who might have watned to get on a massage bed but couldn't move themselves. The pool was okay but for the price I expcted better.
I have spent lots of time over the years at the Celtic. It is out of this world. Since hosting the Ryder Cup. Its really put Newport and Wales on the map. If want to experience an exceptional and charicteristic 5 Star resort, you need to pay the Celtic Manor a visit, even its for afternoon tea or a memorable overnight stay #Luxury #Hotels #Golf #Culinarydelights #Entertainment #Rolex #Porshe #Ferrari
We arrived for a Sunday lunch yesterday and the food was delicious with great service. Highly recommended!
Had a lovely lunch at the Olive Tree restaurant, food was excellent and the staff were friendly.
The Celtic Manor Resort is vast...this is your first impression after leaving the motorway and driving up the hill and being greeted by tier after tier of balcony laden rooms inset into the hillside. Once parked (a concierge service is available) you will walk into the massive opulant atrium that is the main reception from where access to the bar lounges and restaurants is available.
The resort is split into several levels, with health facilities and the older Manor Hotel being below, the new resort facilities above. These are all accessible via lifts and on approach activated escalators.
If you want to be away from the main hub bub of the resort then the further distance away from the resort to the Manor hotel is recommended.
If you like golf or are partying at the golf centre, then regular (every 10 minutes) shuttle buses take you to and from efficiently.
The overall experience was excellent with lounge bar orders taking some time to be delivered (the volume of customers obviously a factor) but countered by smiling and helpful staff and clean and well presented facilities and rooms.
Outside facilities whilst not experienced directly included zip wires and an ice rink and looked well used and organised.
I can recommend the resort as a great place to stay and from a christmas party perspective, well organised and good value for money.
I look forward to going back again
Place was very cold especially in ladies and dirty place really needs revamp staining on ceilings etc definitely not 5* standard. Could not fault staff though they gave excellent service and it was noticed they worked long hours
I'm sorry but anyone who thinks the Celtic Manor is a 5 star hotel still is daft. Note the below is all based on staying at the main resort.
The food is also pretty bad, the breakfast buffet is borderline comically poor for a 5 star hotel. The bar food is average at best too, pizzas being particularly bland. Drinks are over priced and the range is surprisingly poor.
Service is hit and miss at best - some staff are nice but some barely acknowledge you. Table service can be painfully slow.
Oh and I wouldn't bother with the Christmas skating, the rink is too small for the max number of tickets allocated for a season, the stewards don't do their job and the ice is terrible.
Impressive building and grounds. Some of the wealthy resident "clientele" have a hilariously self-important and dismissive attitude toward any great unwashed who might be visiting the hotel for skating or other hosted Christmas events though.
The facilities at the celtic manor are great, and very worthy of a 5* rating. The service however, in my experience is lacking the 5* quality that one expects.
We were downgraded to Coldra Court after being told on our arrival at the Celtic Manor that our room had been subject to water damage. Unfortunately, this was our my wedding night, and my daughter and son had booked the Celtic Manor as a present for us. While I tried to explain this to the receptionist, her attitude was take-it-or-leave-it. We had no option but to accept the downgrade or have nowhere to stay. This was deeply upsetting, particularly for my new wife. Even when we arrived at the Coldra, there wasn't even an acknowledgement of our wedding. While admittedly there was a partial refund and some cheap champagne in our room; this did nothing to prevent the significant disappointment. We were so looking forward to using the famous Celtic Manor facilities and having a great post-wedding breakfast. Instead we had a bog-standard 3-star buffet style breakfast and really had no desire to use the spar in this hotel. My daughter was very upset about this, and I believe that she has also contacted the resort.
The main issue was that knowing that there had been flood damage for some time, why were we not contacted in advance? we could then have at least decided whether or not to consider the downgrade or an alternative hotel in the area (e.g. St. Pierre). For us all, this poor communication showed a complete lack of regard for the customers; let alone one that was celebrating their wedding. I have no doubt that if I was a rich punter, or a celebrity, the above events would not have occurred.
No way is this place a5* hotel, maybe 4* at a push. Whole place needs gutting& refurbishing. Such a shame. Why they got rid of Terry M restaurant I don't know, amazing place to eat. Cen is very forgettable, shud have stayed in his dad's takeaway.
Logistics are clunky and they were doing major work which disrupted the paths to places
We were there for our VE work conference and on the gala dinner night we were in the lobby waiting for connecting coach to take us to coldra court , while we were waiting the concierge AUSTIN on night duty was amazing. He saw me and my 2 other colleagues all tired from gala dinner and dance and gave us bedroom slippers to wear as we had taken our stilettos off from our tired feet. He also offered to take us to coldra court if our transfer coach doesn't arrive. That is what you call a to ftrue customer to fan.... amazing service by Austin. We Will remember him. Austin you rock
My daughter and her husband and son stayed at the resort on a Friday night. This allowed their son to take part in the holiday events run at the resort which was very good. My wife and I joined them on the Saturday to be part of our grandsons experience. After a couple of events we sat on the terrace of the bar with beautiful wooden dragons at the entrance. My daughter went to the bar to order some hot and cold drinks, paid and was informed that the drinks would be brought out to us. However, twenty minutes later my daughter had to chase up the drinks, which were eventually delivered. We took our grandson on the rope walk which he thoroughly enjoyed his time there. He has been here in the past and loves the activities offered. We then sat down for lunch in the same Dragon area. We were informed, by a waiter of a possible 25/30 minute wait for orders which was of little consequence to us. We placed our order and, for the sake of time I shall merely list the issues;
1. The drinks order for 5 people was messed up after waiting more than 10 mins (two pints of Pepsi, one glass of water, one of lemonade and a glass of milk).
2. Informed waiter of the mixup which took a further 15 minutes to resolve.
3. No complaints for the wait for our lunches however considering it was ove 30 minutes after the initial order you would have thought we would have been supplied with cutlery but no chance. I had to go to the bar to inform them. That resulted in a further 5 minute wait whilst our meals were losing heat.
5. Following our meal we requested the bill, my wife paid and when she was given the receipt we found we had been charged the DISCRETIONARY device charge. I had enough and became a little irate but fortunately my daughter sorted it out. This took a further twenty minutes.
Sir Terry, you really need to look at the service issues at your resort as this does not reflect well on the nation of Wales . From my experience at the resort, and comparing it with the numerous hotels I have stayed in throughout the UK, and although it saddens me to say it, you would do better to employ Eastern European employees who are extremely hard working and will always do justice to the employer. I am an avid supporter of improving employment opportunities in Wales however if the attitudes of the staff affect the overall business then either further training, some harsh words and unfortunately some job losses in order to find the right attitude of employees is a matter for the future success of the resort.
The interior decor is superb had a nice stay will definitely come back soon
I haven't seen the bedrooms. It's a great place to meet for coffee or informal business meetings. There's also an excellent spa. I've attended conferences here and the facilities are also excellent. It is huge, so if you're after something intimate this isn't it. However, lovely staff, good parking facilities and a location that makes it central without needing to enter a city make this a place I visit often.
Stayed overnight in an upgraded room as part of a package that included dinner, bed and breakfast. Fabulous hotel that has a 5 star appeal. Would I go again? Yes definitely. The pool, sauna and steam room did not disappoint. Rafters restaurant is set in a stone and oak beamed building away from the hotel. It's a lovely setting and the hospitality was first class. The fillet steak was cooked to perfection but it took a couple of attempts to get right. That said the response and generosity of the staff more than compensated for this. A very enjoyable stay.
