Went to Claire s Kitchen again last night, we ve been half a dozen times over the past 14-months and we absolutely love it. Great food, great cocktails, great service and awesome owner! Accompanied by some bloody good looking wait staff A must visit.

I am sorry folks about this so negative review. We are 65 years old, have experienced many restaurants throughout the world, including French quisine ones, and we are sorry to say that our experience at Claire's Kitchen Le Salon on Oxford Street in Sydney, Australia, was one of the worst experiences we have endured in 40 years of dining experience. We paid $100 entry cover charge which was supposed to include 3 hours of unlimited dining. What we got was less than $20 worth of finger food. No main meal, no desert. We also had to pay for our drinks, costing at least $60 for a poor quality French wine. The staff were friendly until we started to ask questions, then decided we were too much of a problem to answer our questions. We had not consumed a lot of alcohol because it was too expensive. There was absolutely no air conditioning, we were starting as Australian summers do that thing. We went there with postive vibes resulting from a six-month booking windi period. We would suggest that people considering going to Claire's Kitchen Le Salon on Oxford Street in Sydney ease reconsider. Although it was Sydney's Mardi gras night, it stillakes no excuse for their inadequate service, over pricing for drinks and alleged food. Please guys and girl - Do not book Claire's Kitchen Le Salon on Oxford Street, Sydney, Australia, as you will be disappointed and feel ripped off completely. Mark our words. DO NOT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THEM!

Great food, nice ambience and attentive service. Glad to see this chic bistro becoming popular. Could not get a table tonight! Was worried before that it might close but word has obviously spread.

We went to the caberet event last night and had a great time! The food was absolutely amazing and served quickly with great timing in between meals. The service was really great. Lots of gluten free options which was nice! The show was amazing. All in all a really nice night. We are planning to come back soon :)

If the Beauty & Beast song Be Our Guest could be a venue, this is it. One of the best service experiences you ll get (from all-French staff!) and the cabaret room menu options are generous and delicious. For $100 including the show (drinks extra) it really is extraordinary value for such a high calibre l, 3-course experience.

Fabulous evening overall! Went for the 9 May Wednesday Cabaret which featured the wonderful Genevieve Lemon. The food - which was a 3-course meal with several choices for 1st and 2nd courses - was delicious. The staff were friendly and efficient. Couldn't fault the night and, at $85 for the food and show, it was great value too.

Hands down the best value for money fine dining experience I have ever had. Impeccable service and incredible cuisine. I can highly recommend the beef bernaise for two. Cooked to perfection, it melted like butter in the mouth. Deserts and coffee were first class. Can't wait to go back.

Amazing food with a wide array of dishes to choose from which would appeal to anyone, our favourite dish was the duck pie. The desserts are amazing and once again there is a huge range to choose from.

Unfortunately the service was a bit of a let-down for a restaurant of this standard, cork was left in the wine bottle, I was told a candle would be on the dessert for my partners birthday (small thing but a nice touch which was forgotten about), and when we paid the bill the waiter did not bring our change back.

Whilst we left feeling the food was amazing, the service came across as inattentive and careless.
Despite the fantastic food, we would not come back.

Claire's Kitchen never disappoints! One of my favourite restaurants in the Surry Hills area because:
- The menu is quite different to any other options in the area, we don't get any other fine French restaurant in the hood.
- The menu changes from time to time but they keep the favourites so I can always choose to try something new or stick to what I love.
- The service is not only impeccable but friendly. Not always they make sure your glass is never empty and they explain the menu to perfection, they are also nice to talk to and they will recognise you and take care of you.
- The ambience is perfect, music is not loud, tables are apart enough and well set. You can have a conversation without raising your voice!
- Cocktails are really nice and the list menu is well prepared.
- Prices are affordable!

I recommend Claires to anyone who wants to try a friendly French atmosphere without breaking your piggy bank.

Try the scallops for entree and if you love traditional French food go for the Steak Tartare.

One of those places that exceeds expectations
Even though you think there is something they could do better but stuffed if I know what that would be

A little nook of elegance off a city main street. Unexpected to see such a warm and accomodating place along side clubs and take away.
We were gifted a voucher and are so appreciative of this as we know we ll return.
The food was well proportioned. The meals we ate seemed balanced, especially the dessert.
I found the goats cheese tart overpowering, but my partner loved it. The scallops and lamb we had were cooked spot on.
Maybe French food has bled into the Australian cuisine so much we didn t find anything overtly different from a regular restaurant, however the meals were certainly prepared far better than we ve had before.

I spent Valentine s Day dinner here with my girfriend expecting a wonderful dinner and service that all the trip advisor reviews had raved about. The service overall was good, not excellent. The food was the main concern. We ordered a bottle of red wine costing $120 which came cold - there was condensation over the outside of the bottle. I asked the waitress to keep the bottle in the kitchen to warm it up and was told that wasn t allowed and to place the bottle of wine next to the tea light candles on our table. The main course was cold - cold hard mashed potato, the veggies were cold, the beef was warmer but not hot by any means. The best part of the meal was the raspberry sorbet, which was cold also thankfully.

Loved the romantic French vibes and food! Service was a little slow as there was a show that night, but they were courteous and gave us heads up on it. The duck liver parfait and scallops were my favorites.

There were four of us and all of us just loved everything about it... the food was superb, the service outstanding friendly and informative. I took my niece for her 21st Birthday treat... and the staff was so lovely to her... without us asking they bought a especial dessert with a sparkler and sang happy birthday with us. So lovely
Definitely willbe going back

Food was ok, definitely not outstanding I'm afraid, and not cheap either. But what really brought the rating down was the function upstairs in the restaurant and the intrusive, at times overwhelming, noise that emanated from there

Such a classy dining experience in the midst of King s Cross chaos. Very attentive service with perfect wine suggestions. Always start with the steak tartare entree as it s initial presentation is amazing, it s preparation is an experience and the flavour is phenomenal. Great French wine menu and unlimited baguette basket for the table. On Wednesday, there is cabaret upstairs so make sure you call to reserve a table. Tres bien!

We did the Sunday night special - le Salon Dada and the whole experience was just fantastic. The staging, food and service were all first class. The art was very well connected to the food. Very creative - Exceeded our expectation. Thank you to the great team for looking after us.

Sydney has the best food in the world. So it's a high bar, but nonetheless, Claires Kitchen's three-course menu badly underwhelmed. The martini was ordered dry and not dirty, but came with oodles of vermouth and a film of brine. The French Onion Soup was not cooked long enough so the red wine remained acidic, the flavour was all wrong - not rich at all, and the Gruyere was all but invisible. I had literally one spoonful and returned it (but was still charged - the delightful manager did offer an alternative which I declined). The main course chicken was overcooked, the mushroom stuffing hard and dry and the taste was, well, tasteless. By the time dessert arrived, I wasn't game anymore and didn't touch it for fear of more disappointment (but was also still charged). On the positive side, the espresso coffee was good. And the service was faultless. So in the end I paid $125 for a martini, coffee and a dry chicken leg. Ouch! Although there was a cabaret which was a hoot.

The place is lovely, the service was good, the entertainment was entertaining.

Just a pity the food was the wrong side of ordinary.

The food is very good but the service leaves a lot to be desired and puts you off. They give you no eye contact, treat you like you are a nuisance rather than a customer and focus on people who are clearly friends so you have to sit and wait for any service and it s not pleasant and destroys the enjoyment of the evening. We would have ordered more wine but ended up waiting too long. We would become regulars except for the service - people should not be made to feel insignificant- really a shame!

When you're tired of hotel quarantine food, and you get delivered Claire's Kitchen, it's like taking a little trip to Paris. The food was just perfect, on the menu was the Parfait de foie de canard en petit pot as a starter, and the Steak au poivre vert as a main. I could not have enjoyed it more. Delivery was quick thanks to the beautiful Adrien delivery driver on his scooter (so French!) and the food was hot on arrival. I highly recommend Claire's Kitchen if you are looking for a sophisticated French escape. Thank you Claire!

There s a collective intake of breath in the intim...

There s a collective intake of breath in the intimate dining room when everyone opens their menus. Fanning out like piano accordions, each menu s glowing white light captures guests faces in a state of childlike wonder as they scratch their heads and wonder what it is they re meant to eat. Eat the pages of the menu? It s rather absurd, but then so is the nonsensical and satirical movement Le Salon DadA is based upon.

Being familiar with Marc Kuzma s work at El'Circo at Slide, I entered Claire s Kitchen at Le Salon with a fair idea of what to expect. In this setting Kuzma (who is also known as Claire de Lune) has kicked things up to the next level using a City of Sydney night-time diversification grant. These monies are all about local council trying to restore some of Sydney s faded night-time glory, decimated by Gladys Berejiklian s lockout laws.

Kuzma s resulting night, (which will set you back $140/head) is based upon Cabaret Voltaire, a Swiss enclave of artists escaping the First World War. DadA was anti-establishment, anti-reason and anti-logic. DadA was the antidote to the bourgeois capitalist interests that the artists believed had led people into war in the first place. Following this line, our first course takes curative form as a wartime first aid kid with tongue depressor, bandages and a petri dish containing a smooth French mushroom parfait topped with sauternes jelly. Scraped onto crackers, it ll sustain you through your cocktail construction the recipe and ingredients are in your bucket.

With shiso leaf-infused vodka, nettle liqueur and pomegranate cordial, it s a tangy, slightly more sophisticated Cosmopolitan with little blasts of sweetness when the pearls of passionfruit and lime pop on your tongue. The rest of your boozing is done in the usual fashion, with many wines - including the 2017 Cave de Turckheim Pinot Blanc ($70/bottle) we selected - available by glass, carafe and full bottle.

The fresh, dry white wine proves easy to enjoy through some on-stage art that sees a semi-nude model enhanced with the f-holes from a cello, and some at-the-table card tricks. It s a multimedia affair, with German expressionist film, The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari (1920), playing on screens placed throughout the dining room. Seen through the eyes of an asylum patient, the film may leave you wondering what s real and what s not.

Contortionist Jade Twist continues our surrealist descent by wearing a black zentai suit with eyes and lips in all the wrong places. Tying herself in knots until she looks like a human pretzel, Twist makes it hard to know which way is up, and which direction way is forward. It's a perfect segue to a course based upon The Persistence of Memory (1931), arguably Salvador Dali s most famous surrealist work. From the edge of a martini glass, his melting pocket watch drips in cracker form to accompany a well-spiced cold capsicum and tomato soup. Your soup is poured from a vessel that is itself a nod to Dali s 1972 piece, Marilyn Monroe, shown up on the screens.

Jensen returns later in the evening with This Is Me from The Greatest Showman. It's guaranteed to leave you uplifted from her talented lips the power ballad s lyrics sound inspirational rather than twee. Le Salon DadA is a rich and punny, multimedia experience that will appeal to all of your senses.

Excellent food. But we were being treated. Very Large portions especially for the extra veg= salad, chips, green beans. Excellent dressing on the salad. Dessert to die for. All cake based, and supper moreish. Coffee really tasty as well. Prompt serving. Easy to find as long as you get the right district

Hands down, the best meal I have had this year. We ordered the duck liver pate, steak tartare and the zucchini flower special to start, the beef fillet and lamb rack for mains, and the rhubarb creme brule and salted caramel eclair for dessert. Honestly, every dish was perfect, the produce is noticeably fresh, expertly prepared and surprisingly generous. The beef fillet was so tender, juicy and tasty, and while I am often left disappointed by choux pastry desserts, the eclair was a Parisian dream come true. Beyond the perfect meal, wait staff are sophisticated, friendly, polite, charming and attentive, service is perfectly timed, the furnishings are beautiful and much better than the boring minimalist stuff seen in most fine dining venues these days, even the accessible and non-intrusive jazz instrumental background music is a nice touch. The attention to detail here does not go amiss. While it is not a cheap eat, the bill offered value for money. I will be raving about this restaurant to anyone who will listen and I will definitely be back (preferably in a larger group so we can sit in one of the luxurious moss green velvet booths complete with chandelier).

I have been with a group of friends on a Sunday night, there is a new show called Salon Dada. I must say everyone in the group was surprised by the staging not only of the performers but also the food and drinks. It is a really surrealist experience, the atmosphere and intimacy created, the constant stimulus to all senses, the attention to every detail is second to none. We didn t cease to be amazed with every dish and every performance. Highly recommended!
Even if you go on a regular night you won t be disappointed, service and food menu is always on point.

As always, great French food, fantastic service. Love the decor as well as the range of wines. I've been here 3 times, once for a corporate function. It's my perfect restaurant of choice.

Nothing better encapsulates the perfect fusion of French and Australian cuisine than the duck pie on offer at Claire's Kitchen; rich duck, cooked to perfection with warm gooey soft cheese flowing between the succulent morsels of flesh... all wrapped up in a convenient pastry package. OK, maybe the French are doing most of the work in that collaboration.

Claire's Kitchen offers up a range of more traditional French dishes too, with impeccable service in a stylish venue. But trust me, try the pie. Just don't pick it up with your hands - you're not at the footy.
