Carleton Hotel of Oak Park Review

My husband and I had our wedding reception at the Carleton. Everything was absolutely perfect! Candice, The Carleton's Banquet and Catering Manager, was very professional and provided exceptional customer service! She helped us stay within out budget, was patient, supportive, and receptive to our ideas. The Hotel's staff were all pleasant, helpful, and accommodating. We could not have felt more at ease the day of our wedding. Candice made sure things went smoothly and guests were taken care of. We did not do an open bar but having a white and a red wine at the tables worked out for us! The food was delicious! We're grateful for Candice and the Carleton Hotel staff! Thanks for making our wedding day memorable and stress free!

Hotel is nice and clean, extremely friendly staffs. It is close to downtown Oak Park and close to public transportation back to Chicago. Highly recommended.

I am giving it 4 star because air conditioner in my room made a lot of noise which spoiled my sleep. It was a deluxe 1 bedroom room. 4 stars because the room was clean and checkin and checkout experience was smooth. Also the front desk people were super helpful.

Recently attended a wedding reception here and it was lovely! The staff was amazing, the food was very good, and everyone had a wonderful time. The boutique feel of the hotel was something I have not experienced in a while.

Cute retro rooms in the "motor coach" area. All was fine except the towels had wiry black hairs all over them.

Older building that has it's quirks both good and bad. We stayed in the main part of the hotel on the 4th floor in early March, when it was 20 degrees outside. The room was extremely warm and overly dry even without the heat turned on. The decor within the room seemed very mismatched and dated. The hotel lobby was very nice however, and the staff was courteous. Since they are the only hotel in town, they price accordingly.

A lot of travelers might miss out on a place like this because it's tucked into a neighborhood and not in some parking lot near a freeway (my usual fare). I gotta say, excellent room, great bed for a side sleeper, and great service. This place has some charm too. The restaurant makes a mean steak, and they were very accommodating and friendly with our toddler. The other huge upside was relaxing walks in serene Oak Park, with some world class pastries in the AM just blocks away. So much better than being marooned in a parking lot. Parking was no problem either. Would stay here again.

Confusing layout and expensive. The room we had smelled kind of musty and wouldn't go away even with the window open.

I think this is a great historic hotel located in an excellent location. Pretty much everything you could want is within walking distance with all levels of restaurants and entertainment. The room I had was fantastic and The Carelton is conveniently located for both airports and downtown Chicago. The only problem was the super slow Wi-Fi.

The location was great. Front desk attendants were attentive and welcoming. The room was clean and well maintained. The bed was comfy too.

We looked on line hotel looks very nice, but today we decided to stop in to get a feel for how the hotel and its surroundings is we went inside to reserve a hotel stay we had questions but the person talking to us me and my wife felt was very rude in his tone of voice and actions. and behavior we are of a different race not sure why he treated us rudely unwelcoming in his attitude, even so i waited several minutes figuring he maybe having a bad day. but as this continued on for many minutes i finally said to my wife lets get out and walked away, but im glad others have had better experiences. we still looking for hotel in Oak Park area.

Ronny is one of those people that will save this world. Her understanding and compassion for others is a blessing. She turned what would have been a very difficult trip into a memory that my fiance will not soon forget by simply caring. Thank you Ronny!

Just came by to visit family staying at the hotel. Fantastic location right next to main downtown Oak Park.

My overall experience was fine, but I think the hotel us over rated for what you get.

We live locally to this facility so have never stayed there, but have suggested it to many out of town visitors who have loved it. We frequent their restaurants which are great.

Very fast check in and decent location. The rooms are specious and the beds are comfortable. Generally good experience.

No air conditioning, no fans, and the windows only open a small crack. Everything else about the hotel is upscale, just don't stay there in the summer.

The room was spacious, very clean, the beds were very comfortable with full sized pillows. The staff was friendly and the complimentary breakfast delicious was appreciated!

Be aware when booking that some rooms are in a motel next door. Room was clean and minimally serviceable, but not anything I would actually want to stay in again. There are much better options for the same price or less in the Chicago area.

Great history and nice rooms. Unique due to age, but that's part of the beauty. Neighborhood is quaint and great for strolling.

Friendly, helpful staff. Great place to hold event. Grand Ballroom is not to big. Can easily hold 100 -150. Good service.

We got a block of rooms here for our wedding and stayed in a suite that night. It was a little expensive for some of my friends, but it was very comfortable and convenient for most of us. I loved having Poor Phil's just downstairs and the jacuzzi in our room!

This place sucks. Bad service and horrible manager.

We booked a MotorLodge room, was upgraded to the main Hotel. Very Nice room on the 3rd flr. we had been outside before checking in and the AC was ON & it was nicely cool. Room was clean and updated but still had the Charm of a 1928 hotel.

Though we haven't stayed at the Carleton, we frequently go to Poor Phil's, the casual sports bar/restaurant in the hotel. We're big fans of their burgers, the Bomb Burger is our favorite. They are more well-known for their seafood. The Catfish Po'Boy is excellent. My friend who frequently does raw oysters, says theirs are some of the best.

Our room was clean and the hotel was quiet. Had a very restful night and good breakfast the next morning. I would recommend this hotel to everyone!

The room itself was nice, even had a sitting room and mini kitchen, especially since the lobby looks like a Victorian Motel 6.

Hotel: Ok. Motel: beyond disgusting. See story below for details:

Checked into the motel for work; only a couple sheets of toilet paper left, squashed bugs left on the floor. It had not been cleaned before my visit. I heard my family neighbor s every word through the cracks in the internal door separating rooms.

Despite all this, I was okay, just heading to bed. I thought I felt something touch my leg and shrugged it off.. then I felt something touch my arm. I flicked at it and heard a sound as it hit the floor. I turn the light on and see a dismembered cockroach leg on the bed, STILL MOVING on it s own. The cockroach I had got to the floor was out of sight.

I noped right out of there to the hotel reception. Given that incident, the staff member was understanding and gave me a hotel room which had no problems. Definitely please consider the state of the motel before booking on a budget! The hotel part was fine, nice staff and more sanitary-seeming.

Beautiful old world charm, and great restaurants attached. Lovely surrounding areas and not far from convenience stores. Perfect alternative to staying in the city.

Clean and neat. I will absolutely prefer The Carleton of Oak Park Hotel again in next trip. It was a wonderful experience.

The toilet water was very oddly high up and i was uncomfortable whilst doing my business! The hotel was overall nice, but i disliked the stench in my hotel room and my neighbors were quite loud!

I went for a professional day-long seminar there. The location is great to get to from all parts or chicagoland. The main room was large and well suited for the purpose. The private dining room we had was very nice and the lunch and dinner was tasty. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout the day. About the only issue was that the air conditioning was very sensitive - first too hot and then too cold. Overall, though, I wouldn't hesitate to hold a professional seminar there if I was organising one there for up to 40 people.

This hotel should be split into two properties. We checked into the nice looking hotel, only to be told we would be staying in the motel side with no offer of discount. Our room was dirty, loud, and uncomfortable. I'm not happy that I paid hotel prices for a roadside motel experience.

Luxurious with attentive and very helpful staff. Breakfasts were fantastic with many options. Would highly recommend.

My experience as it relates to the restaurant inside of the Carleton of Oak Park. The restaurant itself is cozy and relaxing, though the main focus is clearly the bar, a massive circle that sits in the center of the room. The food is ok, it's not special though the menu has a good variety of things for most tastes, with a price that seems elevated simply because it's in a 'boutique' hotel. I had the fish and chips, a bar classic, and again it was lackluster in appearance, the portion was decent, the fries soggy in places. The waitress was nice, friendly and accommodating. They have a good beer menu, and by the looks of it a good selection of the hard stuff. It's a good place to eat with a group, there were more than 7 of us and we had a private area which was adequate. Not special, but decent would be my final verdict.

I stay here every month and it's always been very nice.

The bathroom floor and toilet were dirty. The bed was on the stiff side, not so comfortable. The walls are thin, you can hear your neighbors well. The price was low, so I added a star.

I was in town for a wedding and stayed at the Oak Park Hotel. The staff was nice and the food was good. There were so many things in walking distance. I love the area.... the cell phone reception however, was not good. I had to stay in WIFI and restart my phone just to get service in the hotel.

This is a wonderful hotel with a great staff in the heart of Oak Park!

It's been four years and I think it's about time I gave The Carleton a great rating for the superb job they did with my daughter's wedding. Every detail was top notch and every moment went without a hitch. Oh, and the food! It was awesome and then some. Many complements from the guests saying it was the best wedding meal ever. And the portions were huge. I'm so very glad we booked her wedding and reception at The Carleton. Their staff is held in the highest esteem by my me and my daughter and the rest of my family. Thank you, Carleton staff, for the superior job you did!

It was a very awesome experience .Everything was great from the reception staff,rooms and the service.This hotel is a true five star.
