This place is a place I would recommend to anyone that is coming to the area. Staff are all great at helping you out. My room was very clean. I didn't feel the need to have to clean it before I could get comfortable.

Very authentic boutique hotel with tons of charm in a building with amazing details and modern upgrades. Great location. Excellent service, friendly staff, and solid attention to details. Free parking. In a super cute neighborhood away from traffic. Great find!
Very nice hotel in a nice area of greater Chicago. Mattress was rather cheap and very hard, but room was clean and spacious. Attached corner bar was nice and had decent late night fair. Parking lot is VERY small, but parking is free. Would stay again.
We had a very nice stay here. It was easily accessible to the trains and walking distance of several nice shops and restaurants. The room was clean, the bed was extremely comfortable and the bathroom had plenty of well lit space. After an exhausting round of summer road construction travel, the staff made us feel welcome and well cared for. Highly recommend.
The Carleton is a charming hotel in the heart of Oak Park. We've stayed here multiple times and generally have been happy. During our stay in December, the heat was turned up a bit high which caused us to have some trouble sleeping. We ended up turning on the AC and slept fine on the second night.
Nice hotel. Good service, pleasant. Good breakfast. Available restaurants. E Rooms are spacious and well-appointed. One downside: main desk is only accessible diwn several stairs. Rest of hotel is accessible.
Despite being a bit out of the way from Chicago proper, this quaint but modernized hotel provides really amazing rooms. The breakfast and amenities are so-so, but my room was spacious, incredibly clean, classy, and had a mind-bendinglingly luxurious bath and vanity. Also, the service, while minimally staffed, is attentive.
Went to check out an extended stay room. It was about as basic as you could get. Not going to be my choice, but the staff was friendly and helpful. If I were looking at regular room options in the area, I'm sure if stay there.
Lovely room. Comfortable beds. Pillows kinda flat. Upstairs people are lifting and dropping weights or something. Called concierge, they called the room and the noise quieted a little. Good shower. Enjoying the 2 restaurants in the hotel. Love POOR PHILS great menu. Pleasat neighborhood. Off street parking.
I was delivering food to one of the guest at the hotel. The hotel itself is very beautiful inside. They had a bar/restaurant (it wasnt open yet but looked nice as I walked by). The lobby was clean and the furniture was even nice. Overall It appears to be a good place to stay and it looks clean.
The location was right in the heart of downtown Oak Park. The interior and lobby of the hotel were gorgeous and the staff were incredibly helpful and kind. The rooms were clean but dated and the television reception was spotty. Overall a fine stay for the night.
Poor Phil s has great food, drinks & service! Best oysters & crab cakes in town! Small nice clean spot nestled in suburban Oak Park, outside Chicago inside of the Carleton Hotel. Great spot! You gotta give them a shot!
Great location, the hotel is situated near the shops and restaurants. Very friendly and helpful staff on the beach. Pool is small, but clean. I will probably come back in the late summer.
Staying here for our Frank Lloyd Wright tour. Very historic. Built in 1928, a year before the main event. It's nice to be in a place that was contemporaneous to some of Frank Lloyd Wright's work. As an added bonus it snowed 3 inches on Halloween when we arrived. So it helped me get a jump start on the Holiday spirit.
Nice spot! I liked the architectural motifs of this hotel it was old school and classy. Very comfy, I was here for a wedding, the banquet people were very nice and accommodating to us, the rooms were very nice, almost like a regal decor. Didnt stop by the restaurants nearby but they looked good and it's a pretty nice chill area (Oak Park). Definitely recommended it here!
Nice digs, safe neighborhood, clean room, good price. The only extremely minor problem I had was that my room was not stocked with a room service menu. It is a classy joint.
I really enjoyed my experience. The ambiance is unmatched. There is a very unique experience of old and new in a cuterrible neighborhood. The staff is above and beyond. Parking is the only challenge.
Room large but dirty. Chewed gum on the phone. Pubic hairs on the floor near shower trough. Air conditioner noisy and inefficient. Windows hard to open. (Rain prevented keeping them open anyway). Long hair in my food. Restaurant dusty and tables sticky. No help plus attitude from female on front desk. Had to be here for morning conference. Never again.
Location is great, just a short walk from the green line. Bed is too firm, and the chair is weirdly slanted forward and too low for the table. The walk from the entrance to the elevators is far too long. Price is okay.
My boyfriend and I stayed here for just a quick overnight and couldn t have had a better stay. The staff are all super nice (thank you for finding and returning my Kindle!!), the lobby is beautiful, the rooms are cozy, and the parking situation is free & convenient. Will definitely be returning!
Surpringly nice, with historic and architectural details. Nicely appointed rooms, fast Wi-Fi, free local gym - the Y but better than most hotel gyms - and accommodating staff. Easy cab to downtown.
I worked with Dana at the Carleton to book an event for my team. We booked rooms for 25 person for 2 nights with a conference room one of the days. The hotel staff was friendly, professional, and prompt with regard to catering the room and the meal times we communicated. Our group (from all across the USA) loved the walk-able area, restaurants, and drinking establishments locally --and the 5 free parking lots. I would not hesitate to do business with Dana and the Carleton again in the future.
Was there for OPALGA Gala. This was the second year the event was held at the Carleton, and the staff was professional and friendly. They do the catering for events in house and the food was excellent. Staff was attentive and knowledgeable.
Stayed here for a wedding and the hotel is a lovely piece of history with spacious rooms (the suite the bride stayed in was ENORMOUS). Beautiful lobby, charming rooms. The issue was this hotel has thin walls and we could hear our neighbors clear as day. It was comfortable but impossible to get a good nights sleep for light sleepers.
Update: I received a follow up thank you from the Carleton, so I responded by explaining my disappointment (see below). I just received a response that was much more appropriate, and have therefore changed my rating.
Definitely NOT worth the $$. Front desk personnel mostly great, but I upgraded to an actual hotel room, instead of the crappy overpriced motel room (because you don't realize that's the room you booked until you get there) and there weren't enough blankets, so I was uncomfortable. Biggest downside was that I specifically spoke to housekeeping and told them I did not want them to clean my room. There was no 'do-not-disturb' sign to hang, and so when I came back, I had a scolding note from housekeeping telling me I had to keep my bed clear. When I reported this to the front desk, they did nothing, I mean literally nothing. The next day when I was checking out, I asked again if anything had been done about my privacy being invaded and all they would say was "oh sorry, miscommunication."
Maybe they should have a 2 star section for their motel rooms! Old and ugly decor with a stench to it. The desk clerk looked like oh great another customer I have to serve and barely explained to me how to get to my motel room! I would of rather stayed in a quality inn or holiday inn honestly! Thank god it s only for one night, because i would ve switched!!!
Check in was a bit rough when a gentleman seemed reluctant to check if there was a room ready and available for an early check in, telling me that nothing would be available till 3 and that id have to wait which was understandable. I wasn't too fond of his attitude. I had just gotten off a 6 hour train ride and arrived at 12pm when check in is at 3. He took my number and said hed let me know as soon as a room became available. An hour and 45 minutes later (with no phone call) I went back to check and asked a different desk clerk if there was a room available and she found me a room right away seemingly working a lot harder to check than the previous clerk had who was just sitting in the back office until he saw me approach the counter. I loved the service of the second clerk and i love that the hotel sent me a personal note seeing if there was anything they could do about the issue I had. So far the rest of my stay has been amazing! Love my room and the area! Would definitely recommend to others.
We requested for room service. It was so nice and good for us. The experience was the best and the staff went above and beyond to give the best service.
I enjoyed my stay at this hotel. The breakfast was excellent. I must comment on your director of rooms. I had a small problem and she handled it with grace, charm and professionalism. She is a credit to your organization. For that reason, I'd make sure to recommend this hotel to everyone I know!
Staff goes out of their way to provide service for which I am grateful! This is my fifth stay for having medical treatments and I needed a quiet room with a comfortable bed. The restaurants are good, convenient, and reliable.
It's an old fixture in Oak Park. It's been around for decades, if not a hundred years. The rooms are updated and roomy, but the mattresses are hard. The AC is from a central unit, so you're going to be warm if the AC isn't on. Great restaurant, just updated from when it was Philanders. The common areas are awesome... feels like the 20s. And the location is perfect for Oak Park. Close to everything, including the train.
Location was full of nice shops, two restaurants in. They have room service and the building is quite historic in nature. Overall the stay was great but may be pricier for families to stay.
The Carleton was tucked away neatly with two restaurants, though it was not too difficult to find the hotel entrance. Check-in was quick and smooth with friendly and polite employees, though we wished we got a map showing where all the parking lots are located. The room was clean, but the doors were a bit difficult to open and close; they hit the doorframes a little. Overall a good experience and we would stay again.
The fact that bed bugs occupy your room like a guest is very disturbing to me. No urgency nor concern horrible experience. I won t return and I suggest you don t as well.
My parents satyed at this hotel and they loved it. It's perfectly located near downtown Oak Park so they were able to frequent the local shops and gorcery stores.
A very nice place to be, when you need quite time, one flaw, they to have more movies, there is no movies that l can buy like pay per view, when you come be sure to bring your Laptop or phone if you want to watch movies, other than that very Comfortable
They hold weddings on the weekends. Do not try to sleep here on a Saturday night. Large drunken party in our hallway all night. Front desk did not answer repeatedly. Otherwise it's a nice hotel.
Ok place. The key card had some problems unlocking the door. Even with another card from desk still had some problems. The area was historic. A little noise from adjacent room using the bathroom.
the room was very percculiar for a hotel as the door to the room emptied out to the outside like a motel and dimensions of room similar to that if zn old route 66 motel room but ihherwise nicely kept and clean
I think this is the only hotel in downtown Oak Park. It's wonderful inside and out but the main thing here is the staff. From the bar and restaurant to the desk everyone is SO NICE!
