I've been here for two separate catered affairs. The service was great for both of them and the food was outstanding. I was surprised at the high quality of the food. The views are very good and the staff is helpful and friendly. This is a very nice place to have a couple of drinks or dinner or to cater a wedding or any other type of affair air. Impressive.

The Best Seafood & Desserts on the east coast. The Scallops are THE BEST you will ever taste. The sauces and glazes on any dish are always creative and super delicious. Service deluxe. My favorite place to have a great impression on guests.

Our waitress was fantastic. I am a very fussy eater and she caught on right away, placed each part of the meal on a separate plate. The entire order was correct. The food was is a bit pricey and the price increased significantly because you cannot substitute the potatoes for another type of potatoes. You have to pay for it. (A way method to make even more money for an already pricey meal). They had to be purchased separately. Would give 5 stars, but for the "no substation policy " that added significant cost to the check I would not recommend this restaurant. There are others that not try pull every dollar from your wallet.

Had 8:30pm reservations. We arrived at 8:20pm and they sat us right away. We were served bread an water within minutes. 30 minutes later not one waitress or waiter came to the table. Not the way I planned on celebrating my 40th....walked away with no lobster! This was my third bad experience here so I decided to post. Prior was a brunch we paid for, and had to share the buffet line with a 40 person baby or bridal shower. I hope your experience is much better than mine!

Went to a retirement party in their private party room and I can't say enough about the food. Amazing. Salmon was perfect, chicken was delicious, the grilled vegetables were marinated and fresh, and the mozzarella and tomato with balsamic was great too. Only complaint was that (I guess since we opted for cash bar?) no sodas or any other drink other than the glass of water on the table was offered. I found out later that we could go out to the bar to order (free) soda, but it would have been nice if they brought it to the table in a pitcher or something--or at least told us we could go to the bar instead of finding out after someone happened to try it. But otherwise I was very impressed and will definitely be back!

Had an early dinner a few days ago, so was not crowded. Our waitress seemed quite bothered when asked to explain something and we all got the impression we were wasting her time. Two of our three meals were good but the broiled seafood platter was not. Halfway through meal waitress came back, removed my empty beer bottle & glass and left. Did not ask if I wanted another one and did not return until well after we all were done. If you're not interested in using the free valet parking then you must pay using the municipal parking meters because starting at 5 pm the restaurant puts orange cones in all of the approximately 30 free spots reserving them for valet parking.

The catering experience was nice. The servers were inviting and welcoming making you their priority which is something I truly admire. The view of the restaurant is captivating and the restaurant itself was clean. I would recommend this to a friend and would like to come back a second time.

An upscale, waterfront restaurant and bar is how I...

An upscale, waterfront restaurant and bar is how I describe Captain Bill's. The view of the bay and many sailing vessels from waterside restaurants is what once was standard all along the coast of Long Island...and sandy beaches on the south shore. This is one of the gems that still remains. The last major hurricane which passed through Bay Shore also went through this almost idyllic place ( I reserve the word idyllic for any place in the Caribbean or the South Seas). It has been rebuilt, rejuvenated, restored, and its regular customers like me are RE-LIEVED.
The seafood served to me on my last visit was artistically rendered as if it were a fine painting on porcelain. Yes, "fine painting on porcelain". Very tasty, nice presentation, and satisfying is how normal people would describe it. This is not "California ostentatious".
If you don't choose to dine here because of that ham sandwich you just had at home, you may wish to wash away its taste with the fine assortment of brews, wine, and liquor available at their very homey bar. I wish my home had a den like this. Wouldn't we all?
The price point is slightly elevated on the Richter scale ($$), however very comparable in value to Tellers and Verace ($$$) in Islip just down the street ("Montauk Highway" to be formal; it is "Main Street" if you are local or if you don't want to spell Montauk). The food though is not as fancy, expensive or as grandiose as Verace; Tellers is a better comparison. All three have their merits, but the view of the water must be balanced against other features and benefits offered by competitors. Dollar signs are not enough to be your guide. For a romantic dinner Captain Bill's would not even be close to a blip on my radar.
I can wear a tuxedo at other restaurants and feel at home. Here, the monkey suit would be a bit much. If you are so inclined to impress your lady, dress slacks or Dockers, a clean shirt with a blazer or sweater would do nicely. This is the first time I have given fashion tips to restaurant patrons.
Captain Bills provides one gastronomic delight after the other. The service is more relaxed here than Tellers reflected by their relaxed attentiveness when you drop your fork on the floor. I found the staff to be very young, polite, competent, yet inconsistently attentive, as I just mentioned. There is not a Waitstaff Captain standing by to cater to you nor to motivate the kids bringing your food and refilling your water glass. It is not that kind of establishment. This is a restaurant where you would enjoy bringing your small children as well as that first date you wish to impress.
The cuisine is well presented and tasty. I find the noise level from the patrons is moderate. I detest noise when having dinner conversation if I cannot hear my date. There have been too many mess hall visits during my time in the Navy. I am a satisfied customer. Five stars and two thumbs up since this is a hometown favorite and I find no major faults.

I went for an 80th birthday brunch and had the buffet plus bottomless bloodies and mamosas. They had a decent selection at brunch, including crab leg and peel-it-yourself shrimp, pasta, eggs benedict etc. The food itself was standard bland buffet food and the drinks were just okay. The venue itself is pretty with a nice view of the harbor.

The food was good. It's hard to comment on anything else because this was a super large organization meeting: Daughters of the American Revolution. We go there every year because they do a good job.

Terrible experience. Went for brunch for my mother's birthday and couldn't be seated with everyone in our party. The staff were rude and kept spilling water/alchohol on the floor when they refilled the glasses and didnt clean it up. We were seated by the windows and the floor was sticky and covered with food from the night before.

Not impressed. Heard a lot of hype about this place. It's got a great word of mouth but it just didn't do anything for me. I've eaten here 3x and probably won't again. The food was mediocre at best, then waitstaff was well below average, and all 3 times I went, it seemed like they were more interested in getting you out of there, than having you enjoy your dining experience. Two thumbs down!

My wedding reception there was fantastic.

My wedding reception there was fantastic.
I've been to a number of occasions there (other weddings, private parties, company dinners) and always good.
Day to day at the bar is always dependable. Chowder is always great, love the salad and creamy garlic dressing, taps are cold and fresh, lobster club, burgers, clams.....all right on..
It's a dependable place year round.

Nice affair, great location for all the years in Bay Shore. Born and lived in Bay Shore for the first 20 years of my life. I was disappointed in the food and it's lay out. Need to go back to try the restaurant for a second opinion.

Attended a wedding late June 2013, held in the Bayview House. Cocktail reception offered nice options. Dinner offered several options. Started with a caprese salad drizzled with a balsamic reduction. Very tasty. Four dinner options included prime ribs, chicken, mahi mahi and vegetarian. I opted for the fish which was served with a pineapple salsa, roasted banana, steamed green beans and lightly seasoned red potatoes. Despite all the garnishes, the mahi mahi was flat; it needed a sprinkle of salt to bring out the flavor. Everyone who had the prime ribs raved. The server for my table was delightful and asked what I thought about the food, brought wine quickly, and cared about everyone she served.
An ice cream bar opened after dinner and everyone loved the soft-serve ice cream - premium quality. The cake was typical - icing was very sweet but the chocolate cake layers were deep and darkly delicious. Good coffee too.

Wonderful dinner with delightful views and attentive wait staff. The beef soup with orzo was great. The Seafood Platter was excellent, especially the scallops and flounder...both broiled to perfection. And the bread pudding dessert was authentic, made from scratch with a nice vanilla sauce. I will be returning here soon I m sure!

Came in for birthday dinner which was amazing. But the bartender Diane was extremely rude and has horrible customer service skills. She threw the pen and credit card down to sign receipt and service was 1000% unacceptable
